From the last thread:

My headphones are the 600's. What headphones did you compare them with?
>>
>>60411333
Literally shit. I have a pair if you want something cheap the Koss Porta Pros are better.
>>

Are HD600 the Solus of headphones?
>>
>>60412177

Basically any cheap ass chinkshit kit will do the trick for your purposes.
Just one tip, don't use the chink solder wire that comes with these kits. Spend a couple bucks on a small package of something good (multicore, kester). A good wire will work with any iron, but a shit wire will be shit with anything.
>>
>>60412321
ok thx, will try. I hope I don't burn my house.
>>
>>60411544
Mostly low impedance stuff, like the K701 and PM-3. Even a tiny difference with monks. Didn't notice a difference with the HD600.
>>
Ok, am considering this setup as my first real audio setup.

>2x yamaha hs5
>sennheiser hd650
>schitt stack

About $915, after shipping and taxes probably close to a grand. I'm sure some you will suggest will suggest cheaper alternatives since this is my first real setup, but honestly I would rather spend the money for an endgame setup now rather than go through several upgrades which would ultimately be more expensive.

Other than that though any suggestions or tips? I know the LS305 is a popular choice here but they are too ugly and I don't want them on my desk.
>>
why do headphones kinda make me dizzy a little bit
>>
Why does sound equipment take a bit of time to get used to?
When I got some speakers I kinda liked my shitty laptop sound better for a little bit.
Just noticed it yesterday too got my first pair of headphones and they didn't really sound that good and now i can see the difference a lot more.
>>
>>60413119

When you're used to the sound signature of your (shit) equipment and the new one is very different, the new one may sound off, or "wrong". You need time to readjust.
An exception is when you pick up something that has a very similar profile to the equipment you're used to, only significantly better, then you usually like it right away.

>>
>>60413731
Yep, they're not bad for the price and has a lifetime warranty. Too little isolation for my commute so they're going to get replaced by Superlux 562's this week.

>lifetime warranty
wow lmao I didn't know that

>Too little isolation for my commute so they're going to get replaced by Superlux 562's this week.

I can imagine. I didn't buy them for public use, but they would look sexy at least.
>>
I need very cheap (possibly <20$) earplugs that you can wear in bed, resting your ear on the pillow, without having the earplug push uncomfortably into your ear. When I want quality I have decent yamaha monitors + sub, so I don't care about quality at all.
>>
>>60413886

My friends say the absolute opposite so I joke about ut by calling them Beats by Gramps.

Do you live in Santiago? Go to the MediaPlayer shop in Providencia and try them out, they have a good selection of both chink and name brand IEMs to try. Beware because the salesmen are Jews and will always try to get you to spend more. Their prices are often quite good, I bought my DT880 there in 2014 and they were $20 under Amazon price.

>>

Solid endgame. Worth looking into the 600's depending on your preferences.

Also, could just get a Fulla 2. Should have enough power for your headphones and still work with your monitors.
If it's not enough volume, you can always get a Magni later and use the Fulla as a DAC.

For sub $100, CB-1 would likely be an upgrade.

There's nothing magic about 2010. It's on a case to case basis.

Sometimes, there's luck. Often, it's shit. My current board is alright noise floor wise, but treble's super weak. My previous board (2012) had a high noise floor.

External DAC+AMP devices like the ones coming up here every once in a while do make the board irrelevant.

I got the JVC HARX700 a while back, and have been pretty satisfied with them, mainly in value for cost. Got them for around $50, haven't had any quality issues yet.
However, slugging around with a meter long cord is the biggest drawback, so they've mainly become my desktop headphones.
That's forced me to use some shitty in-ear headphones when I'm out and about since then, which are pretty uncomfortable.
So I'm looking for a nice pair of foldable over the ear headphones that can rest well around the neck.
I'm thinking closed stage, around $40-$75 or so.

am i right in thinking if i dont want to spend 500+ on a pair of ciem's then the next best bet for me is the carbo tenore or some equivalent?

At first i was thinking shure 215's because of the replaceable cord and i assume you can detach one which is perfect for work, but people say they are way overpriced and sound subpar (for similarly priced headphones).

Then hf5, but while those look durable they are apparently very tinny, not much base. I primarily listen to electronic music and like my base.

My past headphones, that i use while active have been the 10-20$ panasonic, or pistons, or whatever looks best at walmart and i wanted something a little better, but i dont want to spend more money unless i can do it less often.

any protips?

>>60424091
forgot to add the 10-20$ headphones break about 1-3 months, with one headphone going bad or changing sound.

MSRP is too high. Same is true of the HD600/650.
>>

It's around 200€ in europe. Like the 7XX is around 200$ in the US. The're practically identical

What do people mean by "wooly bass"?

That's not msrp though. The HD600 is $400 while the K712 is $500 (or $625 according to amazon.com, who knows).

Speaking of raping treble, I've noticed that a lot of professional/studio headphones have these treble spikes

What's up with that?
>>

a 10kHz (give or take) is just common in a lot of dynamic phones.

When you can sample and reconstruct in higher fidelity than any physical media even in theory could, yes it is. Digital results into a "complete" analog signal and a standard 16 bit audio DAC is exceeds any analog format easily. Sampling theorem is no joke.

>>60417704
Quality wise and forgetting audible part: Web(this can be any format, any quality and lossless) > CD("Redbook", exceeded human audible range but has some minor, potentially challenging caveats like low pass before Nyquist frequency and read errors) > Vinyl(because of the simple limitations in how small you can carve the surface and the multiple resulting errors in the process of reading it, vinyl has far lower dynamic range, inaccurate high frequency reproduction which has a tendency to alternate, wow and flutter, noise, pops etc). Quality wise any analog format is a far below basic digital media. That doesn't mean that it's bad subjectively or even audibly poor in the best cases.

>>60417848
It's a collectible item, people like the physical feel and gear etc. Some masters and versions are only distributed on vinyl.

>>60420028
Extreme range of low male vocals can go down to 50 Hz and timbral spectrum of females near 10 kHz or well above with [s]. Sound of a voice is majorly made up by the harmonic series. Missing the fundamental may not be bad.

>>60420800
>thought it would be make a difference
Well there's you're problem. Not everyone buys for the same reasons or falls for unrealistic expectations.

>>60426588
Something.
>>
>>60426512
The treble is slightly harsh and the bass is sloppy as fuck. I sold mine and bought 600's.

They're one of the best headphones I've ever tried though. I love the design and pads too.
>>
>>60427457
The annie pads are probably the greatest things I've ever put on my head

I remember when my 650's arrived I was instantly disappointed as the pads felt like hard sandbags. They wore-in well though.
>>
>>60427586
Yea the 650 is no where near as comfy as the annie pads.

I've had the 650s for 3 months and I'm still not satisfied with the comfort. I'm not sure what to do desu
>>
>>60427644
Ah that's unfortunate, while the pads are still nowhere near as soft as my AKGs I've found that the general shape and fit of the 650 is much comfier.
>>
>>60427679
Comfort seems to vary radically from person to person. I've owned the DT990s too. People used to say their pads were like pillows.

They were one of the most uncomfortable headphones i've owned. My right ear especially always started to hurt 40 minutes in. The fact that they're heavy doesn't help. Had to return it with just 1 week of usage
>>
>>60426374
im not an audiophile, im looking to replace my Maxell Retro DJ which are old as fuck by now and repaired many many times. I keep tearing off the jack when im working outdoors (for instance bad swing with my machete shortened the cable once).
i like how Encore look and they have good reviews, also you can replace the cable which is a plus for me.
>>
>>60422572
At least they, seemingly, improved on looks and build quality in comparison to the prototypes they showed before.
>>
>>60423694
>>60423616
Damn, fells bad to be a retard. You can EQ midbass you know, or get grados if you have any presence of bass. Or just try DT880, they have bass but overall sound more bright and less relaxed.
>>
>>60423616
No, you don't.

Quick questionarie.
1. How long have been using them for?
2. What are you connecting them to?
>>
>>60427644
I'm assuming you mean you don't like the clamp? I stretched the headband on my 600's and it's honestly the most simple solution. My 600's are more comfortable than anything else imo. The 712's are really close though.
>>
>>60427586
Yeah, the 600 and 650 are insanely comfortable when you stretch the headband out a little. They're pretty tight otherwise. The pads flatten out nicely after a week or so.
>>
>>60429142
They are comfortable but I've used headphones with better comfort, some examples: HD800, Fidelio X2, DT880 Premium, K712.

Thing is, they absolutely blow the above headphones in sound quality, so the little compromise in comfort is worth it. Is it uncomfortable? No, just not the comfiest headphone around.
>>
>>60429113
>I'm assuming you mean you don't like the clamp?
That, the pressure on top of my head and the pads aren't very deep or wide
>>
>>60429205
I can see why you don't love the comfort but I do. I like the snugness of them compared to the 712 for exmple. I've only tried the x2 out of those other headphones and they were comfortable from what I remember. The build quality is amazing as well.
>>
>>60429340
pls pls, just bend the headband. OPen them up to full size and mostly use your thumbs to bend the metal outwards slightly and hold it for ten seconds. Do it on both sides a couple times and test it. You don't do it in one go, you can do it bit by bit and the band is nowhere near breaking point when you do it. It's so easy and you'll have comfortable headphones right now if you do it. I'm guessing theres a video of someone doing it somewhere if it helps.
>>
>>60429384
It's not that I dislike the comfort, I just think that there are better designs out there.

Some headphones really fuck up my skull badly, one example is DT770 Pro with its tight clamp and hard headband, oddly my gf thinks it's the comfiest headphone ever made, she has a small head.
>>
>>60427760
>Comfort seems to vary radically from person to person
Agreed, also this is probably the toughest thing for me when it comes to headphones, I live in Semi-rural Australia and the nearest Headphone store is a $600 (at least) journey away. Generally if they're not universally agreed on being "comfy" I tend to stay away
>>

Looking to upgrade from relatively cheap headphones to something respectable.

>Budget: $800
>Location: USA
>Source: PC
>Type of headphone: Over ear
>Open or closed: Open
>Comfort level: High, long wear time
>Sound signature: Neutral preferably, warm possibly.
>Past headphones: I currently use Panasonic HTF600's with the velour earpads. I don't mind the warmness generally but sometimes the bass is far too much and I have to equalize it down.

I really don't care how much my next pair of headphones cost, as they will probably be lasting me a few years. I don't want anything ludicrously expensive, just something that is considered nice sounding and comfortable.

Aside from the primary request for a recommendation, I was looking to get my girlfriend her first real pair of headphones. She literally uses Apple earbuds right now. Her request from what I can garner is as follows:

>Budget: $50-$200. Preferably best price/performance ratio budget headphones.
>Location: USA
>Source: Smartphone or laptop
>Type of headphone: Over ear
>Open or closed: Either
>Comfort level: Preferably high but I doubt she will have hour-spanning wear times.
>Sound signature: Neutral
>Past headphones: Apple earbuds

That must be nice, Amazon doesn't exist in Australia and it can take well over a month for some items to arrive. Best place in Aus that I've found to order from is A2A and they have a pretty decent returns policy, luckily I haven't needed it though

In what way does the fulla sound worse than your thinkpad? please explain.

I'm the anon who was going to buy hd 558 for music and vr gaming.
Music is going to be of varied genres, mainly Classical, Electro(would benefit benefit from good bass),
Psychedelic Rock, Modern orchestral suites(might incorporate various modern sounds).
VR gaming is going to be done on HTC VIVE so a good soundstage would be important.
Also they have to be good for ASMR of the ero variety.
So why don't i just buy the hd 558's which i was recommended?
Well so it just so happens that for whatever reason sennheiser no longer ships their 558s on any shops in greece
and they've forced the new 559 version of 558s at a discounted price of 109euros.
So when i asked here about the 559s i was told they gimped them on purpose and i should def try to find the 558
specificly. So my only option for the 558s is overpaying for them (170euros).
Are the hd 598 significantly better than the hd 558 for the use i need them for? Also the source is going to be motherboard
headphone jack(soon Asrock AB350 Gaming K4) which has a decent onboard sound card. From what i see the hd 598
are 50 Ohm headphones so i suppose this means they should work great with this audio source? The price for the hd 598 is
214euros just 44euros more than the 558s.
>>
>>60431560
If anything, it should sound the same.
>>
>>60431579
Wait for HD559 measurements.

Don't trust what anyone says.
>>
>>60431602
They came out in 2016 i think it is just that only now sennheiser begun discontinueing the older models maybe?
I have a hard time with reviews in generaly because headphones is such a hard tech topic to make sense of
because the experience is different for everyone which is why i find coming here and just stating the use i plan to do
hoping some anon from across the planet happens to actually do a similar use to mine and having a good recommendation for that.
I also forgot to mention that i was also recommended to do a mod on the hd 558s which improve the soundstaging.
>>
>>60431560
In every way. What's so hard to understand?
>>
>>60431732
The problem with the HD559 is that it's the lowest model in the new HD5xx line-up and it's possible that it's gimped as the lower models of the previous lineups were gimped and the other two models were identical. I haven't heard it myself, so I can't confirm, and I don't trust most reviewers.
>>
>>60431766
I don't even see how that's possible. Not trying to argue, just saying. Did you go from nothing to 600's and an amp because you were recommended them or have you been into this hobby for a while?

Maybe you're looking at the wrong model? HD598se is what you should be looking at. It's black and has an extra cable, otherwise identical. HD598 was retired a while ago, so availability might be screwing the price.

If you can't afford hd600 either get akg k612, or k702. k612 is actually very similar to hd600, it's very balanced and natural sounding with decent but not overblown soundstage. If you want universal open headphones for long listening sessions but can't afford hd600, then that's it.
k702 has superior soundstage (better than hd600) so if that's your priority then those will do well. Suffer from nobass syndrome and elevated treble.

The 598se and 558 come up under International Shipping on Amazon. Are you absolutely sure they won't ship to Greece? It's worth a shot.

The problem with the hd600 is that from what i've gathered it requires an
amp to play well because of the high ohms.
>>60432604
>>60432673
The real problem is what happens once they're shipped here.
The thing is that we have some dumb regulations that will force me
to pay a shitton to actually pick them from wherever they end up shipped.
After getting fucked from ordering some gear from japan paying 100euros
extra just to get them from the customs?(not sure how they're called).
Also it is generally why we get fucked by our sellers here because of the
limitations we have from using places like amazon or ebay. For example
i'm working on a new pc rig that costs 840$ which is 800euros and i have
to pay 1000euros to build it in greece because of this fucked up system.

No matter what headphone you buy, it won't silence the voice within.
>>
>>60432770
>because of the high ohms.
HD600 would be fine, the impedance has reasonable stability so it'll sound the same. What you might find is that the maximum volume is too low, but that's about it. Do not let this keep you from getting the good headphones.

HD598 do on the other hand have quite the ramp in impedance across frequency, so these do sound different on different sources. Any amp will do, but they do really need one.

Fuck my life big time... I also live in the capital which is infested by this cancer.
>>60432835
>the maximum volume is too low
Deal breaker... My main motivation for changing headphones is because they sound like shit when loud
and i enjoy listening to music at loud volumes.
I might be able to get my hands on a very expensive amp that is 20years old(maybe more) it works fine,
my father uses it for his vinyl player - speaker setup because he's fixing his other newer amp.
He also has a different one which is the the thousand euros range(similar to pic related) but he told me
it doesn't have ports for me to connect to pc or headphones to so i don't know if there are any kind of options there.
The thing is my father might change his amps next year so i can't really count on buying a headphone for amp use
and just wait, so my plan was to get something that would work well w/o any amp and just buy better headphones
for use with amp/dac setup at a later time.

Hasn't anyone tried the hd 559s yet to compare with 558? There is literally nothing on google comparing the 2 headphones
even tho it is the top search result which seems really fishy from me and especially considering how discounted the new
model is here.
Should i consider beyerdynamic then? I was mainly focusing on sennheiser because from my research they seem to be the
goto option for the use i want(music(varied genres), vr gaming, erotic asmr).

>>
>>60433101
You'll be fine, unless you like it unhealthy loud.

It won't sound bad, it just (possibly, not for certain) might not sound very loud. I use them with a Fulla 2 and I don't even go past half volume, which is pretty much negative gain.

Eh, I would rather get HD800 and try to EQ down the treble. You may not get completely rid of it but it will be toned down sufficiently enough. Here is video on EQ using HD800 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFCXWMV5YfQ&t=662s. It's just that HD800 can be found relatively cheap and part of HD800s price is inclusion of balanced cable. Altho once sennheiser releases HD820, H800S may go down a lot in price which would be nice 4u.

What are some decent headphones for just 12$ ? I consider replicas of Dr Dre Beats pretty decent, but I need headphones suited for PC.

Assuming that you're the guy I replied to originally, you still haven't qualified exactly what is "not good" about the DT1990.

>>

Into the trash your uneducated opinions go.
>>
>>60433486

So you don't like it because it doesn't measure neutral. Got it.

I happen to enjoy moderately colored cans, so I was hoping that you had personal experience to qualify the statements. Are you just going by measurements, then?
>>
>>60433520
it's compensated, you major retard

>>60433526
>So you don't like it because it doesn't measure neutral.
i don't like it because it's low fidelity garbage that's not worth half it's MSRP and because the channel matching is atrocious for such expensive headphones
>I happen to enjoy moderately colored cans
what a special little snowflake you are
>Are you just going by measurements, then?
yes, the measurements make it clear that it's a scam

harman_response_curve.jpg
36KB, 600x410px
>>60433486
that curve is bad but not for the reason you stated

pic related is the harman target response curve, which describes how frequency-response should measure at the ears in order to sound like idealized speakers in an idealized room. one reason it's not flat is that your head is not acoustically dead

flat headphones sound lifeless because they don't approximate the harman curve and therefore lack the characteristics of real sounds in space

>>
>>60433725
the dt1990 plot was compensate on the Harman target already
>>
>>60433582
>falling for neutrality meme without understanding it
Even at Harman's tests listeners would adjust treble and bass levels to their preference and target curve was only approximation on a small sample size. You can blame those headphones for a retards treble of over 5db of average adjustment but saying that everything outside of muh target curve is bad is retarded. Check yourself before you sherck yourself fuckboy.

I'm slowly losing hearing and the doctor gave me a month long treatment that supposedly should fix it. She said it's something in my respiratory system that is causing me to have a swollen throat and also causing my really loud and obnoxious snoring.
Every time I talk it's like I cover my ears and my own voice echoes in my head and it's driving me fucking crazy. I also can't hear for shit.
I'm this close to just killing myself already.
>>
>>60434101
Did he say that your hair cells got damaged or something? Fuck human body, robotics are the future. My left ear has a dip around 8k or something, so I had to put headphones aside for at least a year, most likely more, and use speakers instead.
>>
>>60434143
She gave a very quick inspection to my ears and said everything looked fine. Removed a bit of stuck earwax but nothing too concerning. She said my nose was looking fine too.
Once she checked my throat she pretty much pinned every issue with hearing and breathing I've experienced lately to it.
I started treatment yesterday but i swear I woke up hearing less today.

>>
>>60434954
i assume many here know and understand why headphones shouldn't be flat in their raw response. flatness as a discussed here is relative to the target. change the target and its no flat anymore or vice versa. i don't care either way. this is a similar limited way of thinking the response as describing "bass, mids and highs" on broad, vague terms.
