Get a Corsair mKB as a last resort.

so you're not the anon who got it with gaterons, you got it with noppoo switches? i haven't had any chattering problems with my noppoo blues. but see if you can fix the chattering with the Fn+10 and Fn+11 debounce settings.

>I had the strangest problem with my noppoo choc mini today. I found that when I typed two of the same character in a row, e.g. 'e' in deer, the second letter wouldn't register unless I typed deliberately slower. So I every time I typed hello it would come out helo, deer would become der, etc, quite frustrating. Turns out I had played with Fn+F11, didn't see any feedback and thought nothing of it. I randomly decided to play with these mysterious keys again, and sure enough tapping Fn+F10 a few times made the problem disappear.
https://geekhack
.org/index.php?topic=40591.0

>Debounce helps this problem by allowing the keyboard to take all inputs from within a set time frame, and register it only as a single press. Inherently a necessary solution, but in some cases the default time intervals might be too short (double presses), or too long (reduced input rate due to clustering too many inputs into one).
>Fn and F10/F11 either increase or decrease the debounce on the keyboard, enabling you to adjust for keys that might be double tapping or if you're particularly insane/sensitive, the ability to adjust the debounce down to increase your WPM/APM.

for example:

What customisability option? Different keys? I can just rebind them. so just ricing left?
>>
>>60343061
>What customisability option?
Everything. You can build literally any sort of mechanical keyboard you want. You can swap keycaps, you can choose and tune switches, you can have whatever physical layout you want, you can program them however you want, you can do anything.

I'm not sure why you'd want to get the most expensive one, those wire keypullers are all the same.
That being said, I remember seeing one with a wooden handle on maxkeyboards, and one with a metal handle that shows up on assdrop every so often.

I don't remember them coming with a keycap puller, given the price, it would be a nice addition, but if you're buying a keyset that price, chances are you already have one anyway

Benefits:
The nice thing about mechanical keyboards is that you can fine tune them to your liking. Do you wan't a mechanical keyboard thats quieter then a rubber dome, then get one. Do you prefer heavy tactile switches, well then get one. Or do you enjoy no tactile fedback, and want smooth operation, then get one. Rubber domes are usually a medium weight switch, so if you want something lighter or heavier get a mech.
Mechanical keyboards are much more durability. I've had several rubberdomes over the years and they always end up as mushy shit, and feel like ass to type on. My model m is over 30 years old and it still feels crisp to type on, unlike some of my rubber domes that are only 3-5 years old.
Cons: Cost
You can get some mechanical keyboards for under 30 bucks, but your options will be very limited. That really is the biggest problem with mechs, cause a mid range keyboard would cost $80-100

35g ones feel far more linear than 45g. If you for some reason find blues to be too tiring to type on, I recommend gateron clears, they're the lightest switch that's commonly available.

Posts like this make me skeptical of the whole mechanical craze. Like, what happened to ergonomic keyboards and big buttons and palm rests. What's the point of buying louder, heavier, more expensive keys?

Do mechanical keyboards make it easier/less straining to type or not?

I can use and enjoy any other switch out there, but that one is pretty much perfect.
>>
>>60347716
The guy is just being a little bitch honestly. The keyboard in your picture has between 45g and 60g actuation force depending on the key, no different or lighter than the blues. And that's "light touch" for a rubber dome. To me, blues are way too light. You can't even rest your fingers on the board without accidentally pressing stuff. I can't imagine someone saying they get tired from that with a straight face.

Mechanical keyboards in general just give you more options. Heavier, lighter, easier, harder, this layout or that layout. You can do whatever. It's the level of customization that people are after.
>>
>>60348055
>Mechanical keyboards in general just give you more options
But if you're going for strain reduction, are lighter mechanical switches as useful as ergonomic designs like slanted/split boards, larger function keys, or smaller actuations?
>>
>>60348116
You can get mechanicals in slanted and split ergonomic boards with larger function keys and smaller force actuation. You just have to imagine what it is you want out of a board and then go hunt it down.

>>60348116
the thing that makes membrane rubber dome keyboards disgusting is that you have to bottom out the switch for it to register a key press. this causes an awful lot of strain. mechanical keyboards have a higher activation point which means you don't have to punch your fingers with full force into the switch

Capacitive buckling spring is a lot lighter. It feels linear and extremely smooth up until the spring buckles, then you feel the vibration on your finger and hear the god tier pinging sound.
With Model M's, it's still a nice feel but the switch is heavier and less smooth.

Does anyone here have any experience in keyboard design? I've been reading up on firmware and microcontrollers specifically for keyboards. It seems simple enough to just wire your keys to a board and map them using software. Does anyone else here have any experience in this subject? Any specs or things to look out for in general? How may layers of PCB do keyboards typically use?

Oh! And on a side note, what are zealios? I've heard from others that they're nothing but "snake oil" but if they are what they claim to be (a tactile switch with activation between a brown and clear) then that sounds perfect for me seeing as I think my browns are too soft and my clears are fatiguing if I type for 3+ hours on them.
>>
>>60362081
If you already have clears it's so much cheaper to replace the springs than buy brand new switches
>>
>>60362116
My clears are in another board. Honestly if Zealios are as cheap as cherries (100 for ~50$) I'd much rather just buy the switches by themselves them cannibalize other boards.
>>
>>60362148
Zealios are 85c to $1 per switch. Because they're "premium".

Hmmm... Ideally, my goal would be to make as small a footprint as possible while still adhering to 104 key standards. The biggest downside of going with nonstandard ~60% is paying through the ass for keycaps. As it stands, the ONLY key not standard in the this set is the spacebad at 6.5u instead of the 6.25u standard.

Group probably won't happen anytime soon because the creator matt3o doesn't like to work with them anymore, this is why elvish sets go for 200 bucks+. PMK will most likely restock their set every quartile like they did with the otaku set.

Hey guys, I love my MX Blue keyboard, but it's too loud. Whats a switch that feel similar to the Blue's but is a LOT quieter? I tried the Browns and didn't like them much.
>>
>>60368978
Matias QC.
>>
>>60368978
You could try clears, though really no MX-style switch has good tactility. Matias quiet switches are the only commercially available ones I know of that are both quiet and strongly tactile. Downside is they use different keycap mounts so you have no selection if you want to change keycaps.

How does it feel to be associated with the most spastic, easily excited reddit turbonerds?

Is there a hobby more reddit than this? Does it consists of anything more than buying woefully overpriced keycaps and carefully arranging your keeb for photoshoots alongside woefully overpriced watches and woefully overpriced sneakers?

how come most of you guys' keyboard don't have the number pad? numpad is so convenient when dealing with any sequence of numbers. is it too much of a price bump for the form factor?

My old chicony 5191 keyboard skips some keypresses when typing. There is something can i do to recover it? It's happening with only some keys like 'd' and (specially) left arrow. It has cherry blue switches. Might the switch be cleaned or something?

it gets in the way of the mouse. you can have the mouse much closer to the typing area if the keyboard is narrower. and you can touch type numbers or use a layer like jkluio789 as 123456789
>>
>>60370332
this might come as a shocker to you, but not all of us are accountants

>>60370849
Cherry switches are rated for like 20-50 million keystrokes. Maybe somebody more knowledgeable could weigh in but my gut is that it's something with the circuit board or contacts
>>
>>60370849
Open it up and check all the connections. Then reflow the solder for the iffy switches. If that doesn't work, desolder the switches and open them up and clean them. If they're honestly busted, get a couple new switches and solder them in. It's only a couple bucks.

Only if they stopped being pants on head retarded with how they made function buttlon toggle when you press it longer than 3s. Everytime you wanted to make music louder you have to spend time and un-toggle that piece of shit function when you play something that actualy uses function keys.
>>
1) Budget
About $100
2) Location

3) Preffered switch type

5) Form factor

Any northern Europe developers using ANSI layout instead of Nordic layout? Do you like it? I'm considering buying ANSI layout since it's almost impossible to find mechanical keyboards and custom keycaps that fit.

Worth buying and trying to fix? Is it a common issue?

How hard can this be? I am able to solder basic stuff if needed
