I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Pardon me for one moment. What you are calling Linux, is in actuality, GNU/Linux, or as I have nicknamed it, GNU plus Linux. Linux isn't an operating system by itself, but it is just another part of the GNU system, which has been extended in functionality via various GNU components (including GNU's shell utilities and corelibs) which only then fit the definition of a complete operating system as outlined by POSIX.

There are many people today who are running the GNU operating system without even being aware of it. Through a strange turn of events, a misnomer has emerged where people refer to a widely used version of the GNU system as "Linux", unaware that the proper name for the system they run is the GNU operating system.

Now while they are in fact using Linux, it is only one component of the system that they run. Linux is used as the kernel: the part of an operating system which distributes a machine's resources to other programs which request them. While this functionality is essential for the successful functioning of a system, it cannot function on its own, it needs an operating system within which it can carry out its functions. Linux is commonly paired with the GNU operating system: the entirety of the system is GNU with the addition of Linux, or GNU/Linux. Every single "Linux Distribution" is actually a distribution of GNU/Linux.

Hello, I'm kinda of new to Docker but I think I've already got the basic idea, I'm used only pre-built images with docker until now.

Let's say I want to run a python script on a docker container, can I just create the container, bash into it and run it?

Can you guys pinpoint the way I must take to do such feat? The python script has a couple of dependencies like ffmpeg libopus-dev and more. This poses any more configuration required?

No need to "baby hand" me all the way through, just the absolute necessary main steps and I can figure it out the intricacies.

How do I unfuck my Unity theme on Ubuntu? I installed the Arc theme with Unity Tweak Tools on Ubuntu 16. It was fine for a while, but one day this shit started appearing. Dos the problem persist after removing the arc theme?
Did you install it manually of from a repo?
Did you remember to remove the compiz/unity theme?
If installed manually did you remove the deps you had to install?

I'm assuming it's 16.04 right?
The ubuntu LTS may change version numbers, api and abis during life cycle, it's probably a bug in the theme.
>>

If you are using BIOS/"legacy" boot, you probably don't need a separate /boot, provided your filesystem works with grub (ext4 is fine). The bootcode can be installed to the MBR instead of a partition.

It does. Either you're missing a required package or your distro maintainer compiled their binary without support.

From what I understand only the partition where Grub is located needs to be ext* or fat32. So if I want to keep the rest of my partitions as xfs I'll have to put Grub on a separate partition.

How would I go for streaming my computer's/phone's audio to this server to accept it as input in mpd and play its audio?

I found I could connect my desktop by streaming over tcp with pulseaudio, but I don't know how I would connect that to the mpd server.

write a shell script for it, fitting your needs. The script could open it with an editor and if the file was changed, update the backup.

You can also copy the file to /tmp, edit that, do a diff between the original and the edited and only update the backup if the size of the .diff is above a threshold (or if a --force-backup parameter is specified).

You might as well do it like arch. Learn by starting from scratch. 4chan won't let me post a link to a wiki right now. Google the Parabola wiki and read the KDE article. I didn't check the article. If this doesn't help, try the arch wiki article.

1. install the new DE from a package manage (tasksel, aptitude, apt-get install, gdebi)
2. log out
3. on the login screen there is an option somewhere to choose which DE/WM you want to log in to
4. select KDE, log in. Most login managers remember your choice.

>>

https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/javascript-trap.html
That said. 'librejs' isn't really useful, it just detects nonfree javascript and blocks it, which makes most websites unusable.
>>
>>60310573
how can javascript be nonfree?! never understood this shit
>>
>>60310612
read the essay by stallman. it basically boils down to a few things:
-it is not in a human readable format. Open source is requirement for free software, and compressed/obfuscated javascript with barely any whitespace, no comments and one letter function names is not source code or human readable. Some shit like blockadblock goes as far as they create something out of "Javascript: The evil parts".
-it is not under a free license.
>>
>>60310612
Click the link. tl;dr it's basically about licensing and obsfucation. People are too lazy to license their stuff; software w/ no license makes it basically copyright (c) author (most github projects have this problem too).
>>
>>60310573
>'librejs' isn't really useful

No, it isn't. A compacted, obfuscated and fucked-up-in-many-ways code is sent to your computer (because your browser is expected to read it, not you). Have fun reading and changing that, especially when you need a bunch of other tools to make a replacement js run in a page.

Use a theme that isn't deprecated and you will not have issues. Now is a good time to update your themes since gtk isn't scheduled to break themes anymore.
>>
>>60312904
I'm not using any themes, just default install of firefox on arch linux.
>>
>>60312923
Then you should check your theme settings since the only theme that is never broken is the default theme because it gets shipped in tandem with gtk updates.
>>
>>60312980
I'm also using the default GTK3 themes, I have no touched it at all.
>>
>>60312996
Seriously, it depends on your DE how themes are applied. Gnome and its forks (cinnamon, budgie) ship proper defaults with a settings daemon and everyone else needs to apply proper themes themselves otherwise you can end up with incompatible ones that only have working gtk2 versions.
Also, arch doesn't change defaults at all so you HAVE to apply your own or the default themes to get something resembling seamless and proper font configuration. Take a look at their wiki.
If you already have problems with firefox then other browsers will not help you since all good ones use gtk3 too. Better fix it properly instead of avoiding gtk3 ware all together.
>>
>>60306111

Then you don't "like" or need Arch, you idiot.
>>
>>60313125
I tried it in i3 and then windowmaker and both got the same results. It's a completely fresh out of the box install for firefox and gtk3.

Why did reiser basically completely fall out of favour years ago? Is it just because reiser killed his gold digging wife? Most distros don't even offer reiser4; what happened? Is there actually a reason to use reiser4 instead of zfs/ext4/xfs/btrfs?
>>
>>60317217
reiserfs was considered feature-complete by namesys. They did not "improve it" only provided security patches and general improvements so it can stay up with the kernel. Other actively maintained and improved filesystems outperformed it by the time.

namesys put their resources into making resier4, but when hans got v& they company fell apart. Only former devs working on r4 currently, there is no corporate backing and people suggests its not included in the mainline because of (((political))) reasons.

There is no reason to use reiser

You mean when they deprecated keys because of a security vulnerability?

So arch is responsible of the stupidity of GTK devs who use string instead of enums?
>>
>>60317630
shitty deflection, autist. bugs happen. issue is that other distros didn't push stupidity of GNOME onto others.
>>

In 4 years of Arch Linux it's the first time they fucked my distribution, and it was only during few hours.

Fugg, a bunch of services are crashing on boot cinnamon can't start properly, all caused by openssl and icu. Why do we recommend Arch Linux again?

I use a moderately riced Xubuntu with I3 and I'm happy with the results

Anybody play YGOPRO? Running it under WINE is a mess, debug mode works but crashes a lot. Especially with tag duels and matches.
>>
is it safe to upgrade linux-firmware and kernel or will i skull fuck the system?
