What would CSS choose to apply if there was:

//Author:
div { color:blue }
p { color:green;
font-size:smaller !important }
.hmm { color: fuchsia }

//User
p { color:white;
background-color:black;
font-size:larger !important }
body { color:yellow }

//User agent:
body { color:black }

Would the color be fuchsia because Author takes the highest precedence here?

If User were to have .hmm{color: fuchsia} instead of Author, would that be used because it was more specific or would Author still override it?

I don't know what takes precedence: Order or Specificity.

I'm seriously considering doing a bootcamp with Thinkful.

They have a money back guarantee if you meet their milestones and are flaunting a "93%" placement rate into a job within 6 months of graduating, and they also pro-rate your tuition if you finish ahead of schedule.

It is designed for complete beginners which makes me a but uncomfortable because I don't want to be paying to video conference with some hipster who is going to try to make writing a responsive layout seem like extremely valuable information that you can't find for free.

I feel like you are really paying for the interview/job search/networking value of the program, which I am also unsure if it is worth paying for..

I know a lot of people are going to tell me I could do it for free, but I have literally been hoarding information and courses/free bootcamps for the past few years and I can't seem to light a fire under my ass to get shit done. I'm spinning my wheels going from odd job to odd job atm and it really blows.

if you have IQ above 130, get yourself some books on HTML, CSS, and Javascript. learn anything else online. dont listen to the cunts that will tell you books are unnecessary, you need them for the 3 things i listed which are the very basics. they are written by actual professionals who are masters at the field and have degrees in teaching. unlike retards like bucky from youtube who have no idea how to organize a lesson or to write an understandable example.

anyway, if you have less than 130 IQ then im sure those guys at thinkful will be perfect.
>>

>>
>>60295151
>>60295185

Yeah man. I test around 120-130 which honestly is overkill for fucking web development, my friend. I feel someone with an IQ of 108 could be a fully competent web dev, IF they have the motivation and discipline to put in the time.

I was honor roll in highschool, dual enrolled in college and had nearly 100% tuition covered by a scholarship.

Self determination is a bitch when you are in a rut, doing pointless part time jobs and just want to fucking shitpost and read when you have free time.

>>
>>60295612
Temperament is just as important as IQ in many cases. There's a reason a bunch of stupid fuckheads are succeeding while Mr. 130 IQ over here is posting on 4chan during normal work hours. It's gonna take some work, lad.
>>
>>60295528

it would make sense to do a project in java with the aim of it being an aesthetically pleasing design
>>
>>60295629

I was the type of kid who skated by in school with good grades without having to try and basically spent all my free time since I was like 13 on totse, chans, irc, etc.

I was making HTML pages in notepad when I was in middle school, I did not have the foresight to make it my goal to be a web dev though at that time, which was
13 YEARS
ago

Would working through bento/odinproject/freecodecamp and making a few projects, with everything hosted on GIT, really be enough to get a job?

As nice as the guaranteed job placement/interview prep/networking sounds, I also cringe at the cost of these 6-8month bootcamps..
>>
>>60295808
>Would working through bento/odinproject/freecodecamp and making a few projects, with everything hosted on GIT, really be enough to get a job?
If you are willing to take a lot of shit and make little money to get your foot in the door, you can absolutely do it on your own. If you have no discipline, you're going to have a rough time. Step 1 is to treat it like a day job. Until you can legitimately put in 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, you should look at it as a non-starter. If you can do that, and if you'll relocate and take low pay, you can get a job after a few months, and that will be a springboard to the 'real' jobs.
>>
>>60295612
Not unless you do web development in Java. Java requires 100 levels of abstraction on top of another 1000, so it takes someone with an IQ of 800+ to figure all of that shit out.

Please tell me learning JavaScript gets easier.. I spent the last 3 months learning lots of html and CSS and getting confident in it and now I'm onto JavaScript and it feels like I'll never get it. I felt this way with html and CSS too at first but to a much lesser degree.

I understand variables but loops (while and for loops) have really hurt my morale and I haven't even learned about arrays or dom manipulation yet.

There is this website that uses google for user authentication.

If i want to make a meme app is it possible to use google's api to authenticate? Or do i also need to change something server side?
>>
>>60317444
You'd need to get your api id and api secret, then get the providers for your back end.
>>
>>60317545
I'm reading about it right now but it looks like i also have to implement some code in the server side.

So its not possible to do it right? or am i missing something? i have no control over this website i'm speaking of, just want to make a tool for it.
>>
>>60317613
Well yeah you can't just use the api, you need to handle sessions and stuff serverside.
>>
>>60317613
What exactly do you want to make? Maybe you don't need user auth.
>>
>>60311377
Depends, if you have back-end experience in something non-JS you probably could learn Vue and make SPA's.

Or learn Angular for the hell of it. You can make some nice stuff with Ionic.
>>
>>60303339

>>

From least to most precedence:

- agent normal declarations
- user normal declarations
- author normal declarations
(- inline styles)
- author important declarations
- user important declarations
- agent important declarations
>>
>>60317645
Ok so i can't use the google api to authenticate because i need control over the back end server

>>60317672
what i want to do is: log in to website, show user info
So i must log in before to do so.
>>
>>60317795
A phishing site?
>>
>>60317833
It will simply show the user info in a different fancy way. That's all there is to it.

So back again at my question, it's not possible because i must have control over the back end.

That wouldn't be too bad. I mean, you can interface with all the C networking libraries no problem. Obviously you couldn't do a frontend in assembly unless you wanted to write your own client from scratch, but a backend would be trivial for a simple project...

Angular is in the browser, express is on the server. So you'd have an express server with routes like "/api/v1/products" and "/api/v1/orders", which are consumed by your angular app. of course though this is dumb for 99% of websites and you should just use express and simple js/jquery

Hey guys experienced programmer here wanting to jump into "modern" web dev.

So I can throw together websites using the "old" method of nested divs and styling everything with CSS, handling all the logic on the backend and using as little javascript as possible.

Unfortunately it seems the times have moved on and modern websites are javascript infested garbage that fetch content without reloading the page and perform a decent ammount of program logic in the client's browser - among being "reactive" and "mobile" and all that horse shit.

Anyway I want to "get with the times" and start writing websites that follow these sickening modern design patterns but honestly, I feel so far out of date I don't know where to start.

Every resource I find treats me like I'm some brain dead liberal college nu-male moron with no programming/design experience that needs godawful analogies to explain loops and never seems to teach me anything useful.

My question is, how can I bring myself up to speed on writing these "modern" flashy web applications without having to trudge through miles and miles of "babby's first" type crap.

By doing things the "modern" way you speak of, you'll just make your websites less accessible and even more difficult to maintain.

I'm in a similar position to you, personally I'm just learning React and trying my best to ignore the rest. React is fairly simple, you write React code in JSX (an extended version of Javascript) and then feed it into a transpiler that converts it to regular Javascript for web pages. Forget how exactly you hook it up once you've done that but it isn't hard, I think you just include the script in a pretty empty HTML document like you usually would.

It's quite nice actually, there definitely are benefits to doing this way, it lets you describe an element as a Javascript class with inline HTML (or close to it), you can just say "I want an instance of MyRadioButton here", I can see how it would scale much better if you were building fully featured UIs in your web pages as has (for better or for worse) become the norm.

how can u struggle with a basic concept such as a loop
literally all it does is allow for you to make what ever is in the loop until it reaches the limit you have set
for (var i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
console.log(`Hello anon was printed ${i+1} times`);
}

it recieves i = 0 as the iteratee, sets the limit to 5 and adds to 1 to i after each execution of the code inside the for loop
after reaching the limit it just exits and continues on with the rest of the code

If this doesn't clear things up I really don't know what you should do.

It's a web server and reverse proxy. It's kind of like Apache.

It sits in front of a web application server and does things like caching, load balancing, compression, and static file serving. Compared with apache, it tends to be a bit more performant because it uses an asynchronous connection model, rather than a process-based connection model.

i have a fixed div at the top of my page that stays on top when you scroll, im not using bootstrap or anything, just vanilla css. I have width set to 100% and everything works fine except on the left there's this small gap at the end of the browser window. How to get rid of it?

I personally like PHPStorm on Mint
I like anything by Intellij really, and all of their IDEs are on Linux

I don't think so? I'm not intimately familiar with caddy to be honest. What is your use case? Are you just using it as a web server? Reverse proxy to an app? Is scaling even something you care about?
>>
>>60334789
Yeah I want to see if I can do some things with it and docker. I was following a tutorial that included its use. I wasn't sure what I needed to know and didn't want to waste time learning something I didn't need. Thanks for the info.

>PHPStorm.

Its ok if you turn off 100% of the formatting shit and ignore cpu spikes
>>
>>60334979
No performance problems except project initialization and I love formatting.

How do you rename a file to something with back slashes EX: mv filename foldername/filename
>>
>>60335650
If you want to have backslashes in filename then answer is you don't.
>>
>>60335342
You must work on less than large projects.
>>
>>60334979
I don't have any performance issues. I can afford a computer from this decade, so I'm fine.

IT's to set a variable for a docker compose.yml file

Which server platform would be more marketable to learn?

How are backslashes and variables connected?

You must have ancient hardware.
>>
>>60335799
Brand new.

My work spends good money on good computers and accessories.
>>
>>60335857
I wonder then how I manage to have no problems on mediocre hardware.
>>
>>60335906
Do you have a project with over 300 classes loaded in?

Loaded in? Don't you use autoloader?

Asking again, any advice for deploying a website with haskell? Can I just host a simple static page/pastebin on a droplet?

If I have a problem with an element I always check the Developer Tools since it makes finding the problem really easy and makes me feel like an idiot

2 days old but I hope you see this.

You're a piece of shit. There's no external force that will ever push you over the edge to magically being a productive human.

Those code camps do nothing for people with an IQ over 100. They can help impassioned, hard working dumb people learn a trade, but they can't turn a lazy person into an industrious one.

Yes all you need is some shit on git, actual projects for actual things. A purposeless lorem ipsum template is signalling that you don't know what to do with your life.
>>
>>60295808
You know how common this is, right?

I started making webpages at 10 and learned javascript by the time I was 12. A huge portion of devs are like this and it doesn't mean that they are better than anyone else or "gifted". I'm not sure of you're implying that or not.

For me, it just meant I was cracked out on Ritalin and I needed something productive to do.

Bootcamps are retarded. Just make some projects, launch said projects, stuff the projects into a portfolio. Send that shit to everyone. Make websites for family and friends. Word of mouth.

I was being serious with this question.

Sorry if it seems kind of dumb, I'm no expert but something tells me that there is a better, preferable routine than using element.onclick = function(){}
>>
>>60338624
Assign it to another function.
//Like this:
element.onclick = shit;
function shit () {}

Use the anonymous function pattern for things that should only happen when that button is clicked.
>>
>>60338727
Ok. Thanks. So than I guess what I was doing is ok..
