Hey guys,

I need sone kind of CAD software for woodworking, metalworking and so on. Which one could you recommend, it should be easy to use and free for students.

So far I think SketchUp Make is a good choice, would you recommend AutoDesk software?

check your universities offers
mine has siemens nx

It's for personal projects, I am studying electrical engineering.

FreeCAD is one alternative that has largest open source market share. Other than that, Solidwork and AutoCAD beat most competitors. You won't get much alternative going the free route, so check if you have any other options.

freecad is pretty good, but i don't think he's looking for free as in freedom, which means fusion360 is the better option
>>
google sketchup

>free for students
pirated autocad or inventor

Solid edge is good
Have a look at inventor too, I have never used it but my friends say it's pretty good too

i got to the university at buffalo and they got us autocad

i can give you my student ID if you want haha

>autocad
First of all it's free for students
Second, stay the fuck awya from autocad if you plan on working in 3D
It's horrible, counter intuitive, navigation in 3d space is absurdly bad
Have had to make some projects using autocad and I wouldn't touch it with a stick

SolidWorks is the shit.
SketchUp is a neat thing for kids to get into CAD, but lacks some pretty key features.
AutoCAD as others have suggested is also very good.
Realistically speaking, no CAD software is going to be "easy" to use considering the field it's involved in, a very professional environment.
Get onto your school, they may be able to get some keys on the cheap.

Inventor/SolidWorks is my goto. Most FOSS solutions don't really seem to scratch the surface in what the proprietary solutions do. Anyways, if you do get into Inventor/SolidWorks, you'll have tons of potential for careers.

Everything Autodesk reporting.
Would love to get my hands on NX though.
>>
Honestly I'd use Rhino for amateur projects. Also, ask >>>/3/

Go for solidworks if you can't get better deal with your university for Autodesk cad programs. If you do, I would go with inventor for more skilled ones and with fusion360 for everyday use. I personaly use inventor professional for robotics.

Go with SolidWorks. Easily the most user friendly 3D modeling program available. ProE/Creo is a pain in the ass and cumbersome with no added benefit over SolidWorks. Siemens NX CAD portion is shitty and cumbersome, but the finite element modeling analysis portion is godlike.

If you just want to make models for drawings or 3D printing go with SolidWorks. If you want it for element analysis pick up Siemens NX. If you're a student at university you can typically get either or both for cheap/free.
