What's the general consensus here on the LG G6? Does it lag or bootloop?

I was waiting for the OnePlus 5 but $500 seems like a good deal for the G6

I've upgraded my ZUK Z2 to Android 7.0 (Global ROM) but it is kinda laggy now (and the notifications are shit). What is the best ROM I could use on it (the only experience I have with installing ROMs was when I installed Global when I got the ZUK, three or four months ago). G6 bootloops, I think.
>>
>>60217329
Is there proof though? People have said "bootloops" towards the G6 since day 1
>>
>>60217455
No, it's too early
>>
>>60217161
S8:
+better screen
+faster processor
-Samsung software bloat
-useless Bixby button
-probable slowdown after X months

G6
+Slightly better software experience (than samsung, still worse than many many other OEMs)
+Cheaper iirc
-potential bootloops like all LG phones
-last year's processor

If I had to choose between the two and price wasn't an issue, I'd probably go with the S8. But you will find much better options if you wait for newer flagships to be released throughout the year, or even consider last year's phones. Pixel has the best software on Android, same specs as the G6 (with potentially better camera) but with the downside of huge bezels. iPhone has large bezels too, but the software is great if you're not planning on ricing. Plus you get software updates for half a decade instead of 1.5 years left with the Pixel (which at 2 years from release is the longest official support you find on Android)
>>
>>60217161
>>60217489

>not the OP3T or OP5
>>
>>60217553
I don't know if I would go for OnePlus considering that the OP2 still doesn't have Nougat. Might be ok if you bought the newest one on release, but after a year they will have moved on to the OP6 and you'll probably be stuck on last year's Android version.

Of course if you use custom ROMs this isn't an issue.
>>
>>60217623
that's because OnePlus got jewed by cyanogenmod

now that they have their own OS, there's a much better chance to receive manufacturer updates

regardless it's not a big deal on this phone since it's a DEVELOPER phone thus it has about 1000 stable ROMs
>>
>>60217623
I see this mentioned a lot, but what is actually the problem with being on an older iteration of Android for one more phone-cycle than everyone else? Genuinely curious.

I'm looking to buy a OP3T, the next time I'll buy a phone after that will probably be 2 to 3 years time, is it an issue if that last of those years is spent on the older Android?

You're just missing out on new features. Nougat introduced Doze while moving (saving battery life), splitscreen, and double tapping the recents button to swap to the previous app, for few examples.

You'll still be able to run most apps since they are designed to be compatible with older Android versions since Android is so fragmented. Probably more important than new versions with new features is making sure your phone has up to date security patches so you're not vulnerable to exploits. If the OP2 is anything to go by, by year two you'll stop receiving new Android versions and soon after you'll stop getting security patches. If you learn how to flash a custom ROM you will extend the longevity of your OP3T by getting the latest versions and security patches, at the cost of being dependent on some guy (possibly Indian) compiling the software you use on a daily basis.

>>60218039
If you can get a good deal it might be worth it. However I have seen LG's software in action and I really don't like the look and feel. Not to mention the threat of it bootlooping a year from now, especially at a time when you need it most. I would avoid LG for at least a couple generations until they prove that they have fixed the bootlooping issue. We really won't know if they have solved it with the G6 until its been out for a year or two.

So all of the phones that have come out in the last 4 years have been fairly underwhelming. I would say the most revolutionary feature introduced were fingerprint scanners, waterproofing, and usb-c. Beyond that there isn't much that separates a 2017 flagship from a 2013 flagship.

So what is the next revolutionary feature going to be that will actually want to make me upgrade my phone?

I have no concrete source, but neither do I have an axe to grind with lenovo. I've seen a lot of comments saying that while the issue has been fixed to some degree they are still noticing slight syncing issues with audio. Look at what these Pajeets are saying in the Top comment thread in this video, for example:

>youtube.com/watch?v=RvJFj9YpFnc

The top comment says that he notices that "there is still a minute difference" (minute as in small, not 60s), whilst someone replying later in that same thread of comments mentions that he tries one in store and notices a lag on some videos.

I cannot stand even the smallest fraction of a second of video and audio out of sync, so for me that shit is unforgivable.

To me the iPhone 4 was the last "big" phone. Everything else has been the same shit.

I think the S8 almost captures that magic since its so strange and new, but I'm older and more cynical now.

Next big feature will be new battery technology replacing Lithium batteries to get week long battery life hopefully.

Hey

Could anyone offer some input?
I have a 20gb data plan and for the past 3 months i haven't had any problems.

Today I received a message that I've used all my fast MBs which is impossible.

I checked my phone's registered data usage and it differs from the app usage.

The phone shows nearly 20gb of usage which is unreal but the app usage itself (5GB) is much more realistic.
Any ideas? Maybe use an app to track the usage?
>>
Thoughts on bixby? Haven't used it at all yet. I have a history of disabling location indefinitely unless I'm using maps. Has anyone found a use for it that would warrant a fucking button?

C-can you talk to it like Siri?
>>

Reviews are saying the keyboard is full nostalgia as any decent software keyboard will have you typing faster, and you won’t have to deal with 30% of your screen being permanently covered by the keyboard.

They’re also saying there’s glaring lag on stuff like the app drawer, and especially in the blackberry hub, as it's the same piece of shit it was on the Priv.
>>
>>60223162
Strongest chance I'll get this one then. Blows all the other phones out of the water for the price.

But that aside the rest of the phone is still pretty awesome for the price. Far better than any other competitor in the same price range. We'll worth a purchase if you're on a budget and want really good performance without the flag tier prices.

Native. Unless you text all the time and need crazy customisation, it's just texting.
>>
>>60228082
I don't really like how the standard app handles some things. Like when a person sends you multiple pictures it displays them as a slideshow movie thing instead of just opening one picture and letting you swipe back and forth between them. That was the main thing that I hated about it but there were some other annoyances as well. I've been using QKSMS but it's buggy and has the same slideshow video bullshit when receiving multiple pictures from one person that the regular app has.
>>
>>60227907
If you have to pay VAT it'll be around 170-180€ (if your VAT is 20-24%). There's no customs fees on electronics. And there's always the chance it gets past the customs, in which case you save a lot of money

>>
>>60228122
Is everyone else just used to this bullshit or something? Hangouts displayed them as single images. You could zoom in, swipe back and forth between them, etc. Messaging and QKSMS show multiple images in a video slide show. You can't resize the images and it just plays through them at its own pace... To view the images individually at full resolution you must "save attachment" and then open the gallery up and view them in a separate app. This is incredibly annoying and not at all acceptable to me coming from hangouts.

I've noticed that most phones now intentionally make your face look softer and prettier. This is probably so that girls pick a phone that 'makes me look cuter :3'.

ofcourse you can disable 'beautify' or whatever but most people don't care and probably don't even ever go into the settings.

just look at snapchat filters. the most popular one (dog one) covers the nose (possibly the one place on the face that makes people most insecure).

if you want quality photos go with a camera.

Cant remember the details but pretty much every iphone generation had a rocky start with repairs when they are first launched, either by hardware issues (incompatible copies or OEM due to manufacturing mistakes or "last minute" changes to the iphone hardware, or sellers providing faulty parts that were left over from original manufacturing) or software essentially blocking shit or completely bricking the phone, which apple then had to hot fix *coughremovebrickingsettingscough* update.

But the most likely reason behind the example you provided is that the camera(s) stopped working after a screen replacement because a transistor in the camera circuitry on the mainboard got damaged during the process since all the cables that goes to the screen are right by the camera section. You need a prying tool to detach a flex cable connector, even if its a plastic tool its still easy to break something.

Apple have been putting the camera connector and the display connectors next to each other on every iPhone model since the iPhone 4, which is why the problem keeps repeating itself.

Admittedly this has happened to me once back in the iPhone 4 days, but I blame it on the hard crack that specific iPhone had received in the camera corner which must have damaged it since it never happened to me again. I also made the mistake of not checking if the unit was in full functional order before opening it.

Are you gonna do it yourself or leave it at a repair shop?

VERY american post

>poverty Obama phones
obongo was an american president, elected by americans

also, japs have more iphones per capita than yanks

also, yanks get phones, houses and cars that they can't afford and go broke because your country is judgemental and people are superficial >>60229573

There's a couple guys wondering why their OP has a bunch of thumbnails of Indian guys and various other pictures stored in some obscure location on their phone. All the pictures date to 1st of January 2017, even though one of them has had their phone since 2016. Any idea what this is about?

The USA I can understand. They are mostly retards that will and do buy shinny shit. After all the snake oil salesman is prototypical American bullshit.
How is it that Apple has so much market penetration on Japan? Is it mainly because they see worst Korea as an economic rival or are they as brain dead as Americans?

Another person. Could these have come in with an update? Seems like it would make the most sense that a bunch of pajeets have been messing around with the phones before they bought them but that doesn't really fit with the second guy who has had it before the day they date to

Japan is the most indebted country in the world. The debt over the average person is like 130% of their jet worth.

I repair Iphones every day and the only problem I get with cameras, the front camera specifically, is shitty replacement parts which can bug the phone to bootloop and sometimes needing to do a force restart (on/off + homebutton). Finding a good part has always fixed it. I'm not sure how awfully hamfisted you'd have to be to damage the back camera connector permanently. This goes for Iphone 4/4s/5/5s/6/6s/7 and SE. You don't even have to touch the back camera connector when changing a screen, it just sits connected next to everything.

TL;DR No, apple does not temp or perma fuck an Iphone because you use 3rd party stuff as long as it isn't crap. The exception being replacing the touchID home button a couple of updates ago which would brick the phone on update/reset but that's "fixed" now.

compulsive smartphone upgraders are just as retarded as the people that sell off each generation of i5 processor and upgrade for a theoretical 5% increase in speed which turns out to be less than 5% after overclocking is accounted for

I'm looking for help with my S7 Edge. Its my first flagship, and idk much about phones. I'm running Android 6.0.1 on it and my carrier hasn't rolled an update for Nougat. Will my carrier roll it out eventually, or can they decide not to and reserve 7.0 only for S8 and above? How can I update my S7 edge to 7.0 and keep using my carrier? My carrier is Claro Puerto Rico, my S7 edge is G935F (GLOBAL), and I bought my S7 edge directly from my carrier.

So is HDMI output just not a thing anymore? Whether MHL or SlimPort, they've both just disappeared entirely it seems after the Nexus 5 and that seems like an old phone these days.
>>
>>60232648
only if it's the prime version
>>
>>60233020
I would say just a usbc to hdmi adapter, but it seems that MHL is still necessary.

Need a new smartphone for under 250 usd
I care about:
Stock android/fast updates
Nice screen
Good battery life
Finger scan
Good speakers
(optional)
No on-screen nav buttons

Any phone like this?
>>
>>60233239
Not for that price..
>>
Whats the cheapest I can get with all of that, then?
>>
>>60233239
The g5 plus kinda fits. You can use the fingerprint scanner in place of the nav buttons.
>>
Family member decided to switch to iPhone, so I might be getting a hand-me-down S7 (sprint) in the near future
Upgrading from Moto G3 on CM13 (muh xposed)

Other than things that check for root or samsung pay, what would be lost by rooting or having a custom rom? I'm assuming sprint's rom comes with a ton of bloat
>>
>>60233355

You can use Magisk to get around that issue.

Thinking of finally upgrading from my 10 year old LG Voyager and getting a Moto G5+

How do the amazon ads affect the performance if I were to get that version? Are they annoying or entirely negligible?
>>
>>60233381
Hm, is that in response to root or custom rom?
Haven't done much research, but I'm guessing that getting something not-touchwiz on there would trip knox which said checkers would probably look for?
Or am I just talking out of my ass
>>
>>60233406
When is that phone coming out?
>>
>>60233635
Rooting, I think you still have to work around knox on samsung phones. I've seen people say that you can still use samsung pay if you root with magisk instead of supersu since it can effectively hide the fact that you're rooted.
>>
>>60233633
>are they annoying or entirely negligible?

That's a matter of opinion. If you're fine being relentlessly tracked and monitored and force fed ads whenever you turn on your fucking phone, then that's your prerogative. But even my mom, the most normie, naive, bend-over-backwards-to-the-corps person there is, called me for help when adware put ads on her lockscreen.

The thing is, Amazon is relying on poor, tech-illiterate normies buying their ad-filled bullshit. Just flash a custom ROM.
>>
>>60233848
Thanks for the reply. How viable would it be to try to get Best Buy to match the price of the amazon deal for the phone?

>Just flash a custom ROM.
I know nothing about the smartphone scene. Is a common thing to do?
>>
>>60233848
>Just flash a custom ROM
You can't do that with the amazon phones, they don't allow bootloader unlocks.

I can use a XT1045 screen in a XT1032?

>>
>>60234093

>>60218267
It's a hardware defect that LG refuses to admit to. When it strikes (usually unexpectedly) your phone is as good as dead and you won't be able to save your data.

You can find What is the biggest, most ram, best processor phone that I can get in the next 3 months? I don't really care about the camera, and battery life isn't a huge deal either. It seems that oneplus is in the lead in all of these.

I'm not getting the S8 because the screen is stupid in every way. Thanks for any help.
