Hey

Could anyone offer some input?
I have a 20gb data plan and for the past 3 months i haven't had any problems.

Today I received a message that I've used all my fast MBs which is impossible.

I checked my phone's registered data usage and it differs from the app usage.

The phone shows nearly 20gb of usage which is unreal but the app usage itself (5GB) is much more realistic.
Any ideas? Maybe use an app to track the usage?

I just got my LG G6 today. I bought the dual sim 64gb version with the quad DAC from Korea.

It's a really nice looking device but I've noticed it has these stupid symbols underneath the G6 logo. I haven't seen this on any other examples of the phone (I've watched and read 30+ different reviews).

Did I get a display model or something? These logos are really killing the aesthetics of the phone, it's got me bummed out.

I think the high specs of phones these days is just for posturing and show off. My 4 year old Moto G works perfectly fine for daily use of voice calls, texts, browsing, mails, occasional video calls etc. I don't understand the reason behind buying a flagship worth $800-900 and changing it in two years when a new model comes out. If my cheap phone can last for 4 years, surely flagships can do it too.

I'm in the same boat as you, but I've decided I'm going to spring a bit extra and buy the OP3T. I don't know if you saw in the last couple threads but the P2 has a bug where audio doesn't sync with video on certain streaming sites like YouTube. There are mixed reports of it being fixed or slightly lessened after the Nougat update but take that with a pinch of salt.

I mostly just use my phone for playing music and podcasts, playing duolingo, quickly googling things and messaging people. The 4s struggles with some of these, especially if someone tries to message me and I need to swap apps.

I am also big on memes so if there are any meme phones or phones that respect my freedom that fit my specs I would be happy with that.

Where's a decent place to get a phone from in the UK?

I got my last couple from Carphone Warehouse online, but I got mugged and ended up in the hospital so am in the market again. Didn't have insurance because I'm a numpty and CPW's insurance is done through geek squad which not only has a habit of not paying out on claims but they also refused to reply to my emails enquiring about pricing, so fuck them.

You can get insurance directly from o2 but it means buying the phone from them, and the prices are astronomical compared to CPW and other dealers. Cheapest S8 (wouldn't buy one because of the UI) is like 50squids per month, plus 10 for insurance, plus your upfront cost of £200 for a 500mb contract.

I tend to pay upfront for a cheaper monthly rate because it works out cheaper, and it normally comes to about £30-35 on CPW for a modest data allowance (3gigs or so, most of the time I'm in range of free wifi)

the best insurance against such a loss again is to get a cheap(ish) phone. that way if you do lose it, it's not such a big loss, while in the case that you don't lose it, you're not bleeding money out the ass on (((insurance))). There are other possibilities, not just mugging, of what could happen to your phone so it really isn't smart to buy something so expensive. Breaking it, or it just crapping out randoml. Especially when these things deprecate like mad. You have the right idea about an off-contract phone. Buy a modest phone, use it for 3-4 years (or longer, til it becomes unusable for whatever reason), and get a cheap SIM separately.

I recommend some sort of Moto, SIM-free from Amazon. G4/G4plus/G5/G5plus.

I bought a Moto X Play in 2015 from Amazon SIM-free. Modest specs, but tip-top battery life and drop-proof plastic build (glass is a meme. Metal is meh. Plastic is durability master race). I expect it to last 4 years. In the meantime my cheap SIM costs £6 a month for more than what I need.

>£250 + £6/m for 48 months
>£538 for a perfectly adequate phone and service for 4 years

Feels so good being smart, man. Dumb normies make me chuckle. Good goyim.
>>
>>60245362
I would add that "plastic" is just a catch-all phrase. Materials like carbon fiber and polycarbonate can be called "plastic" but they're both more expensive and more durable than metal and glass. It's just that tech illiterate reviewers have made "plastic" a bad word by praising glass rectangles with all the ergonomics of a wet soap bar.
>>
>>60245362
No idea about the Moto, but my parents use those cheap samsung handsets (J5 I think?) and they're completely unusable for anything but basic texting. Screen is awful, can't really watch anything because you might as well be colourblind (and I am), phone locks up if you happen to try and type too quickly, etc.

And it's not like you can just buy older flagship phones for cheap, because they're either discontinued or the software/hardware is designed to fail after a couple of years to force people to upgrade. Not to mention battery deterioration, etc.

But yeah, I agree with depreciation (although I don't resell, my young brother gets my old phones) and glass, especially. All-glass builds with glass sides and back just seem like retardation quantified.

I've went a couple of months without any phone whatsoever and it's kind of liberating, although what's precipitated me inquiring is I have a load of night shifts coming up next week out of the blue where I'd like to have my audible/google play library back (google play music with pirated content, ofcourse). But I managed to rake out an ancient ipod touch I won at school, and even though it locks up like a motherfucker if I try to actually use it for anything, it should be fine to sit in my pocket and play back some music.

Hopefully I can hold my breath and last until summer and possibly get the new oneplus phone, but who knows. If there's a usable phone (moreso than the J5 that I mentioned) for under a couple of hundred pounds, I'd jump on it, as that's enough for me to spend in the mean time and then keep as a back up if I do get something new.

I'm switching from a Nexus 5, and want to get something in the $1000 range.

The S8 is gorgeous looking, and I'm intrigued by the idea of watching movies on a VR headset. The Pixel seems not that compelling for it's price point.

I'm also considering an iPhone, the ROM community has basically died, Google is getting even more obnoxious and I would like to escape their ecosystem, and I just want a well made phone that just werks. I use Bluetooth earbuds anyways.

It hit the floor before falling into the water and the case opened.
After 2 days of it being in memerice I tried it again and it worked fine, aside from it reading no sim card but that's only for 4g and I can get another one for free apparently. Used phone to listen to music as usual yesterday.

Any Pixel owners in this thread?
I'm considering getting either the regular Pixel or the iPhone 7.
I've been using iPhones since 2012 when I got my 5 which I'm still using to this day.
What I'm wondering about the Pixel is its display's outdoor visibility and the headphone jack audio quality.
Can any owners comment on these two items?
They don't retail over here so I'd have to buy it online, so I haven't and won't be seeing it in person unless I buy it.
Also not having costumer support in my country is another worry of mine. If the screen shatters or something, I have no idea what I'd have to do.
But I'm so tired of iOS and how terrible Apple's quality control has gotten since iOS 7 that I'm really considering making the shift to Android.

Don't ever bother with the S8 if you use screen protectors for your phones. The edge gimmick is a worthless piece of shit that exists to make screen protector accessories impossible to design.

Also, every seller of screen protectors for the s8 on amazon has gone full retard. I'm so fucking done with trying to get a screen protector for my s8+.

The first one I ordered from yootech didn't even fit the phone (bottom corner of pic) so fuck them. They were the best rated screen protector on amazon too.

Nextech advertised itself as being "case-compatible" on the amazon storefront (they've since removed that part now), but if you actually receive your package in the mail you'll see this little warning slip telling you you can't use cases that go over the edges of your phone. I tried putting it on my case and sure enough it started to peel off.

If you're reading fuck you Alex. You fucked up my order on Amazon by sending me the wrong shit, so I had to buy a second protector and return the one I haven't opened yet.

You should investigate what the cause could be. It could have come with some app you installed or a ROM you installed if it's a custom rom and it could even be pre-installed in the rom that came with the phone if you bought it from epray or chink express.

A few years ago I bought a cheap Allwinner based 7" tablet (what happened to Allwinner anyway?) off epray. It had some nasty malware built on it that was built into the bootloader so it would dump it from there onto the tablet on reboot even if you removed it. I got rid of it but that one was a bit nasty.

Something obviously used up all that data and it wasn't one of your normal apps.

If I pay off my phone bill in order to be able to upgrade, what happens to my current sim card and number? Does it downgrade to a pay as you go sim with the same number, or just become completely unusable?

Just wondering because I'm going to need to pay off my contract directly through my carrier, but any upgrade I buy will be through a third party (better prices).

Can you reboot to bootloader or recovery? I think you can access and pull via ADB from there.

You forgot the x compact as an option, though it's a bit more, there's also the x performance.

>the reason behind buying a flagship
The cameras.

I've always bought cheap budget phones and I see no reason to buy anything else until progress stalls.

My $150 Redmi 4 Prime is way better than most 2 year old phones, even most 1 year old phones.

The Snapdragon 625 CPU combined with the Adreno 506 is more than good enough for everything I ever do. 3 GB RAM is enough for what I do. 32GB+64GB SD card storage is also enough.

I don't think there's much, if anything, a flagship phone can do that mine can't - with the exception of the cameras, mostly the back camera since many flagships still include a garbage front camera (which has always annoyed me since I use the front camera just as much or more).

I'm fairly sure everyone is able easily to tell the difference between a picture or a video taken with the Samsung S8 and the Redmi 4 Prime when it's viewed side by side. Flagship phones have better cameras, but that's about it. And I personally don't think any flagship has a camera that's better than your average $200 compact camera (which all have optical zoom and so on) so I personally don't think that makes it worth paying $900 for one.

I found a few of my old phones and wanted to make security cameras out of them since why not.

They all work for the most part, just wanted to get some advice on how I should go about doing it.

I lost my old phone, a HTC one M7, I loved it

i'm looking for something of a step up, would be great if I could add an SD card to it. I only got about 200 USD to spend on it

would would you suggest?
>>
Currently have a 3T and love it, but after seeing the S8+:

>2 microsd slots
>6.2" display

It's so damn tempting. The 835 would be a small bump in performance but going from a Note 4 to the 3T I miss the screen size. I'm at a loss. Maybe I'll just wait til the price of it drops
>>
>>60264049

Not him but the 821 has pleasant performance, the usb-c quickcharge is delicious, and it's very easy to root/toy with if you're into that but aside from kernels the stock rom is perfectly fine.

My only complaints are the screen size (I'm more into phablets in this regard) and the short charging cable which isn't too big an inconvenience given how infrequently I need to charge it only to have it full in 35-45 minutes.

Is it a good idea to just buy a cheap flagship from 1/2 years ago?

Looking for purchase advice.

Currently using using a Moto X Pure, but I've run into two big issues after a couple of years of use: Bought the lowest storage model and am using an SD card, but without root I've filled up internal storage with apps (More annoying than a deal breaker, formatting as internal storage doesn't help with this for some reason), and the camera is getting to be unbearable.

I have a fairly important vacation coming up in October, that I really want to be able to take excellent photos and videos of using just my phone, and I'm really tired of my phone constantly telling me that it can't update apps due to too little storage.

I don't have a budget other than ideally nothing more expensive than an iphone, and would prefer android (Really dislike apple, but I understand for camera quality I may need to look their way).

Any suggestions for currently available phones? Or am I better off waiting until closer to the trip in late October?

I need a phone before 15 june.

oneplus 3t vs xiaomi (one of them).

Which else? and which can you recommend for this price range. 200-450 euros.

You're just taking snapshits, if you want to take decent photos get any kind of dedicated camera. That being said, check DXOmark mobile to check grading of cameras. You can also compare sample images of multiple phones on GSMarena.

Xiaomi is fragile glass. I wouldn't buy.
One plus 3t. Just get it. There's no major problems with it at all and since you can afford it you have no reason not to.
>>
>>60267428
There are some Xiaomi wit Gorilla glass. Mot that it matter as most modern glasses are pretty much equivalent.
>>
>>60267720
glass back

Also they have poor internal construction that's not sturdy at all.

Oh and the P2 can be bought right now
