This is probably going to sound really stupid but how do I get the best sound out of my PS4? I enjoy playing rhythm games and I was thinking about buying some $100-150 headphones, will they work out of the box?
>>
>>60212157

i don't have a PS4 but what you're gonna want to do is look at the outputs and see if there is a standard 1/8" jack. otherwise you'll need an adapter or possibly bluetooth garbage

I love my HD600s, I had a bunch of iems and shit headphones and never really liked the sound signature until I got my HD600s. I think I am at my endgame but I want to see what a direct upgrade would be that's closest to the HD600. Someone recommended me STAX before but I want to see if there's anything else out there before dropping the cash.

The controller has a 3.5mm audio jack but I doubt it would be enough for DT 990s? I think you can also connect USB headsets so maybe a dac + amp would do?

Find a good pair of iems and plug them into the bottom of your controller.

I use a pair of hd600's and a fulla 2 amp, then connect them with a simple audio jack. That's probably not what you had in mind though. The fulla 2 is fairly cheap in america if you already have half decent headphones though.

if you already have a hdmi receiver you can use the headphone output of that
there's also optical on the old ps4 model (not on the slim)
maybe you can try your tv's output first if it's lag free

The most insensitive headphone I can think of(minus K1000) is 50 Ohms. The impedance doesn't tell you anything about needing an amplifier or not. There are other reasons to get a headphone amplifier than just to get more powerful output.

Sounding better is subjective and impedance has nothing to do with sound quality so the answer is a simple "no".

Yes I am serious. It is you who are foolish. This is a DAC, not an amplifier you negro. I gave up on my Soundblaster's shoddy drivers and I need something better than my motherboard audio.
>>
>>60219073
They say DAC-X6 has a good one.
>>
>>60219060
It's probably provided by a manufacturer and it can go to the bin. There's way too much smoothing, scale is hilarious and will make any pair of headphones look good... except that one. Are they really saying it's going to drop 35 dB from 5 to 10 kHz? I assume it's some sort of diffuse field compensated plot but that detail isn't provided either. Answer is: that plot doesn't really tell us anything.

I have a dragonfly black that can drive my dt990 250o to loud volumes but I think it's just because the software is increasing the volume or somethinig. The 990's sound like shit on it but my IEMs are like a new set of headphones.
So I want a new desktop amp and dac for the dt990's that has room for future headphone upgrades.
What is the best value in dac/amp at the $100 range right now? There are a shitload that I see. Monoprice, fiio, chi-fi shit, fulla 2, micca origin+, etc.
>>
>>60219131
>>60219394
It may be overkill for me since my speaker setup is actually pretty shitty and I use headphones for music. I'll most likely get the K1 even though the X3 looks pretty good for the price. Is there any difference in sound when it comes to the K1 vs X3?
Does the X3 have some official brand or listing from which I could get it?
>>

Coming from someone who owned the sabre dac and the e10k in past, buy the fulla 2 as an amp+dac combo. Look into it if you have to.

I'm trying to decide if I need it or just go for Fulla 2. The thing with Fulla 2 is that many guys on head-fi have problems with it and if there will be problems with mine I'll be fucked up because shipping back to US cost money and time.

Fucking no. It sounds the same as the e10k. Buy the fulla 2, it's less harsh sounding (whilst holding all the detail) and the bass is more prominent. The fulla 2 is literally a better and much cheaper version of the odac.

Fulla 2. That gets you an excellent dac and a decent amp, and you'll likely never need an upgrade.

But if you do ever feel like it, the obvious one is to chain a magni2 from its dac output.

Alternatively, modi+magni /uber stack from the get go.

Just don't get the modi nonuber, that's just a really expensive fulla2 w/o builtin amp.

Also headphones are very basic in manufacturing. No reason a set of cans should cost $2,500 or even above $500

Sony MDR-V6s are basically the way all music is meant to be listened to.
Also depends on source/amp ect but they are the industry standard headphone

-Lower noise

-Avoiding interference
-Higher quality pot
-Gain switch or other features
-I/O options
-Whatever personal reasons like size, looks, brand etc

>>60220141
Assuming you aren't joking, the concept of lossless stops existing outside of digital domain. No DAC, amplifier, headphone or even cable is lossless. Only digital information can be stored and transferred without losses but once we step out of the digital domain, which we need to if we want sound, losses will occur. The losses in DA-converters and amplifiers can be inaudible, losses in headphones not. Loss is a wrong word to use there.

Headphone performance is distinctively different from that of your DAC or the file formats. DA-conversion is something you don't need to worry about and it has no significance on the headphone choice. Getting high quality files is never a bad idea but the impact on those will stay mostly the same no matter the headphones.

>>60224744
It's decently neutral, slightly V-shaped. A lot of people enjoy the sound. It is easy to drive, affordable, foldable and has a solid construction. Common criticisms are the earpads(shape and size) and lack of detachable cable.

>>60222049
Which model is that? In-ears in general tend to be very bassy. What's too much is personal. I think almost all bassy in-ears are bassy in the wrong places.
>>
>>60221437

>>60217390
Those have better isolation, but other than that, no, the Shure SRH440 is not a better choice overall. Lots of issues durability-wise if you take a glance at Amazon reviews for it, and the bass response is lacking for a closed-back headphone.

The logical upgrade considering the sound sig you are after is the LCD 2. I live in australia and got an LCD2.2 Pre-fazor bamboo off the head-fi classifieds for $520 USD plus $80 USD shipping. One of a kind headphones that you could listen to all day without getting listeners fatigue. It is within your budget to get the carbon fibre headband as well to get a bit more comfort, if you manage to snag the lcd 2 at around the same price i did.
>>
>>60225911
Interesting; I've been looking at the LCD-2. Have you had any QC issues? Do you find the weight to be a problem?
>>
>>60225993
They are definitely heavy, but i find the weight complaints can be a bit exaggerated. I don't mind the weight, the max amount of time i've used them at one time was 5 hours, i didn't reall y have any issues afterwards. You may have to adjust the headstrap just right so the top of your head doesn't get sore. It comes down to what your compromise is between comfort and sound, and i think the sound of these cans more than makes up for the (not as bad as it seems) comfort issues. They are really well made and the pads give your ears heaps of room, to the point where i find other headphones too small in the pads. Plus the lamskin leather is rlly nice. People have reported that the carbon fibre headband helps, and the lohb strap (where you can buy it i don't fucking know) helps too.

Hey /hpg/, can't spend the bank but trying to decide between the cb-1 and the SHP9500.
I'll probably add a boom mic or something for occasional gaming but usually listening to jazz and classic rock. Comfort is a big concern but all reviews I've read for these two say that they are both really comfortable.
Any opinions from someone who has owned either or both?
Thank you.

amazon here has the MC5, I already ran across them in reviews but the eartips scare me

I have honestly never heard of that brand.
how is it?

You might have to put the them in a bit deeper than usual but they isolate very well since the tips basically make them earplugs that just happen to play music.
>>
Can i buy just membranes? Do they have some known symbols? I was interested in 20-30mm.

I have a pair of these Sony MDR-CD380 headphones I've owned since the 1990's. They sound great to me. Can anyone tell me anything about them and whether they are actually decent or not?
>>
so what's the general opinion on Schiit Fulla (first one)? all the reviewers seem to like it.

I've been listening to it for a couple of weeks with AKG K240 & Sennheiser HD595 and have compared it with E-MU 0404 USB (an old-ish pretty good audio recording interface).

I can't say I like how the Fulla sounds. the sound is very different, does not seem to be neutral and makes bad recordings sound worse than they really are. on the plus side, at least it has lots of power (which I don't really need).
>>
>>60230945
I will do that but I don't have one at home right now.

Can't speak to the CB-1, but the SHP9500 is the comfiest pair of headphones I own, although sadly not the best sounding. Pretty good for the price tho

Where does everyone get their music from? I download the odd flac albums here and there, but besides that it's spotify premium (higher quality).

>>

I don't know anything about tidal, why is it so good? Spotify premium is very good quality, and it has a pretty damn good selection of music.
>>
>>60231942
It's basically the same thing as Spotify Premium with FLACs though has a limited library compared to Spotify.
>>
>>60231838

I EQed my thinkpad speakers to sound like hd600. It's amazing and I laugh at you cucks paying for audio.

k612 pro

Really enjoyed the k612 except for the shitty nondetachable cord.

I have my amp/DAC placed next to each other because I don't have enough room under my monitor (it only just doesn't fit)

They have slightly less sub-bass than K612 and a wider headstage.

APL or RED

Half of Spotifys library isn't available here in Australia
>>
>>60232184
Not sure that's worth the trade off. Part of what makes spotify good is the selection, and lets be honest, the difference between flac and 320kbps is barely noticeable
>>
>>60232364
And more treble. I wouldn't recommend those headphones for someone who wants natural sounding headphones, it's downgrade from k612.
>>60232325
hd600/650 if you can increase your budget slightly. Or replace cable if it broke. Or even mod it into detachable, you just need to solder in female jack somewhere close to cup, no need to even open it up.
>>
>>60232325
DT990 might be a good choice. Cheaper too.

I already have a bunch of expensive headphones. I'm looking for something with a lot of soundstage because that's the thing missing. Would the HD800(S) be the best choice?

Congratulations on shittiest recommendation of the day. Anon asked for neutral headphones, not treble rape and nigger bass.

It's solid. Sure it's a bit overpriced for the sound quality (I don't buy for one minute it sounds noticeably better than other products in the price range) but the build makes up for it in my opinion.

my gayming headset is slowly dieing. And i almost never use the mic anyway. So was thinking to upgrade to a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80. Its 160$(Denmark).
Only going to use it with my pc/ps4. Dont got a amp/dac. but from what i read i dont need one with these.

How is that even a real opinion? it's 99$ dollars and sounds equal if not better than all the 200-300$ amps. Not to mentionthe amount of features it has.

Explain the 'sound quality' problem.
>>
>>60232831
The Custom Studio uses the same driver as the DT770 80 Ohm and has more features like a detachable cable and a bass slider which adjust the bass levels.
>>
>>60229490
I own both, both real comfy.
If theyre your nice first nice headphones, you shouldn't be disappointed with the sound of either.

SHP need some bass eq'd in though.
>>
>>60233321
Any difference between the Custom Studio and the Custom One Pro?
>>
>>60230167
bemp for interest
>>
>>60233569
Studio comes with a coiled cable while the Pro has a straight cable and they use different drivers (Studio uses DT770 80 Ohm drivers)
>>
Is rockbox a meme? I'm I just a pleb? It just seems slower than my original iPod 5 firmware.
>>
>>60232941
HD 558 cost the same as DT770 Pro 80 here.
>>60233321
I can only find the Custom One Pro and Pro Plus at local retailers and they seems worse. And are 30 dollars more
>>
>>60234164
770 is great for gaming and super comfy, don't think you'll regret getting it as long as you don't mind a long cable.

I'm too much of an earlet to point anything specific out but it sounds like all the important sounds have run away from me and are taunting me with their lack of presence from miles away. But the comfort is too important to give up so I guess I will have to stick with it until I get used to it.
>>
>>60234328
This is a problem with a lot of headphones.
Ear distance from the drivers etc.
>>
>>60233051
Yep. They are headphones after all so EQ works on that.
>>
>>60235057

>>
>>60235113
EQ works on all linear properties of the headphone. To the extent of what headphones alter soundstage boils down to just frequency response. You can tune it if you know what you are doing with it.
