This thread is for the discussion of the possible replacement/mirror of the late Nyaa.se (which also hosted Sukebei);

>latest update: nyaa sent an email and confirmed it's gone for good. and yes, it was due to the EU ruling. and no, db is almost surely wiped.

Partially working indexer site using old dbs

I guess we should start with just a way to have lists of torrents and their magnet links.

How can we have something like that in GNUNet? Just share a database file and an small webserver to load in localhost to search the database or something

Then the problem is how to update the database?

What if each uploader had their database, signed by them, then we keep a list of uploaders and their public signatures somewhere also behind a signed key. So you just download the list, download each database and search it with the webserver.

That's a simple design for starters.
>>
>>60197779
...by a bunch of crazy dudes.
>>
leave it to /g/ to over engineer a solution instead staying in scope and just getting a replacement going for nyaa
>>
>>60197764
it won't be hard.. just like you download it, run it whenever you want to have access. could also have the option of automatically starting a service with system start, so it would always run in the background and you dont really have to worry
>>
If anyone ran autodl from RSS you should be able to get the last month or so missing from the DB.
>>
>>60197770
Given enough fizzbuzzes they'll eventually become something else.

Honestly wouldn't a program functionally equivalent to nyaa but with a nice API and the ability to set your node as replicating another one be enough? For encryption put it behind tor as a hidden service.
>>
>>60197791
So if the list maintainer trusts an uploader, they add him to the list, clients periodically update their list.

The maintainers are some sort of curators and are worth as much as people trusts them. They go down, someone else can maintain their own copy, or ideally, multiple people could maintain their own lists.

Until they get depeered. Entire country has 10mbit internet.

The best solution is to do something like tpb (>>60197837) and make a easy-to-use bundle with the backend web server and tor bundled.

>code server in fastcgi
>statically link it with rwasa
>statically link in tor
>compile everything to a .exe file
>takes one argument, path to latest database dump
>opens cmd window containing hidden service .onion and possibly debug information

This would be easy to implement, and this is essentially what libgen.io is already doing.

It's a univesity project and not useful for public consumption. What do you expect from a project that doesn't even have a windows binary you can install
>>
>>60197061
On Windows? You'd need to sort out a killswitch. On anything else you'll have to look at configuring OpenVPN correctly, I'm fairly sure Cryptostorm hosts a guide for that somewhere on their forums (it's nothing difficult).

But the thing is, I wouldn't advise you to use them unless you're comfortable with leak testing your own system. In my experience setting up a killswitch and (in the Windows case) using out of the box has worked fine, and that's something I've tested and demonstrated to my self, but I have seen enough posts on their forums to note that there can be non-obvious configuration problems. This usually seems to relate to people having misconfigured their TAP adapters and things at an earlier point, but the reason I mention it is that CS's client doesn't sort these things out. In my case I configure my network at the point of OS installation, as the first thing, and hence avoid these issues.

IVPN, on the other hand, seems to work out of the box even if you start from a misconfigured system. Reconfiguring it appropriately.

I'll add one more downside to CS:
-They're not oriented around circumventing media geofences, so if one of their IPs is blocked by, say, Netflix, don't expect them to do anything towards shifting the IP, least of all quickly. It's designed and operated as a VPN for security purposes not for convenient location spoofing (hence my earlier comment regarding Nord).

Having the servers behind a hidden service to avoid any legal problems and using the NNTP protocol to allow users to publish content in the network in a decentralized manner would solve all the server-side problems from hosting website that will potentially store/index copyrighted material.

This doesn't actually solve anything. If a hostile client connects to the service, they can see all the same information about their peers as a friendly client. If a hostile publisher infiltrates the network, they can do a lot of damage.

Once 0.10.2 [or 0.11?] is released, I've had every intention for months now of publishing at least every HS release to GNUnet.
I only have the drive space right now to keep this up to date for a single season, but maybe in the future I'll be able to keep things up longer.
There is at least one other person who planned to join me in this so I won't be the only seeder.
If you download these you'd be encouraged to republish and help so long as you had them.

It will happen, there's just no reason to do this before the next version though.
I can't expect pleebs to compile this themselves and the current git is not backwards compatible with the version that's in everybody"s repos.

Why not? This adds resilience and bittorrent clients and other tools like ipfs pretty much don't care about using different sites.

Thanks.
Is it possible to add original Nyaa torrent IDs? Those can still be useful for looking up information in the cache/archives.

Oh, and you still need to fix the page numbers/links.

There's be a new one soon enough, everyones just gonna have to get by with older methods or get invites to PT's, i'm waiting to hear back from BakabT about my account myself, in the meantime I'll just get airing anime from HS site

They don't need to be real friends really, just online acquaintances.

I HATE fucking eurofags for doing this REEEEEEEEEEEEEE Nyaa and building my anime collection as a whole was literally the only thing I look forward to each day. I JUST used the birthday money I got from my relatives and bought a 1 terabyte internal harddrive just so i can improve my collection 4 fucking days ago.
I have zero friends, no job, nothing man. I spend literally 20 hours a day in my shitty little 8 square meter room hiding from reality. Waiting and anticipating the next episodes of anime and discussing them on /a/ was one thing that made me forget about being a shut-in loser

>>

Maybe don't.

Did you merge any of the old data? Might be better to just publish the result powering your index as JSON or whatever you use (also on bittorrent, heh) and keep this index alive for a while while people create more complete alternatives in the right places.

Why do private trackers have that shit invite system?

Can't they just have a few freeleach torrents that every new user downloads, which you seed to them and then after a certain point you're bared from seeding it.

After that point, force seeding all you want but having people suck cocks for invites from cunts online is shit.

I think that would defeat the object of a private tracker by giving stuff out to randoms who may or may not seed it.

But along the same sort of lines couldn't a system be set up where if you don't seed the torrent for so much time after download, you're banned from using their tracker?
>>
>>60200870
>Why do private trackers have that shit invite system?

Because otherwise you get kickass'd, piratebay'd or nyaa'd.

W.CD and Oinks were both shut down when they got massive.

Can you really be surprised when W.CD was basically the starting point for 90% of private tracker users? It's the obvious target to go for because it's the biggest one.

At this point DHT is mature enough to render trackers obsolete. (literally everything on nyaa is mirrored on DHT scrapers like torrentproject.se and btdb.in)

The only reason for central sites is to offer tailored search options, search by submitter, and comments/feedback.

The only reason to have at least one tracker is to allow quick and easy gage of torrent health, but if a releaser is properly maintaining their torrents that's not much of an issue.

So.. at this point.. it's about re-assembling a space for the community to gather, interact, and search rather than re-launching the tracker itself.

>>
>>60200942
On a typical private tracker, you get x free upload and 0 download for your ratio. Then you have a bunch of freeleach torrents people download only to seed to up their ratio.

Just have open registration, you get some shit amount upload base amount(1 MiB), a few large torrents nobody wants and the only purpose of those torrents is to prove you can seed it enough to get a torrent you do want.

After that point, use a regular freeleach system, which excludes the new users.

This removes the register, download and leave thing.

Possible basically yes, if someone has an actual complete website rip and then reimplements functionality... yea.

But it seems we only have partial dumps so far, and I wouldn't hope to get your hands on more if I were you.

That said, it's not like torrents and their contents can't be rehosted easily all over the place - everything people care about will probably be.

Could be done I'm sure, but it'd be a pointless amount of scraping DHT & any specified trackers still up for just seeing the same any client who is actually interested in a torrent will anyhow see after a while (when DHT got it the results it'll get).
