This thread is for the discussion of the possible replacement/mirror of the late Nyaa.se (which also hosted Sukebei);

>latest update: nyaa sent an email and confirmed it's gone for good. and yes, it was due to the EU ruling. and no, db is almost surely wiped.

Website recovery and development is /g/.

We were also discussing having a federated db but I'm not sure how to go about that.
The ideal goal for this is to decentralize it as much as possible.
>>
So will this be like when manga traders went down and /a/ and /g/ came together and not only made a new site but actually made backups of everything? Is the new site made so if taken down it can be put back up with ease like TPB and we would never have to worry about this hell again?

Streaming quality doesn't necessairly suck, CR's sucked lately because they were moving their servers but has always been fine, and also Daisuki's, Hulu's and Funimation's are pretty good. Streaming is basically downloading in the moment you're watching, so there's no technical reason for which it should be inferior.

Never had any problem with the subtitles either, and most people will go for crunchy/funi rips from HorribleSubs anyway even with nyaa, so it wouldn't be a huge difference.

Download fags are often more like cleptomaniac madmen who want to feel like they "own" the anime.

you're trolling right?

Anime wouldn't exist if there was no IP though. Those guys ain't drawing cartoons because they have fun, it's their job and they're doing it only because they have ways of earning from it. If most shows have crappy derpy animation it's because piracy makes it harder for them to survive, and if it weren't for websites like crunchyroll and funimation you hate so much, which in the last years managed to have a good success and recover some of the lost value which anime lost with piracy, anime would probably be deader than dead.

So I say KYS to you, you preppy bedroom communist who thinks banning IP is fine until it doesn't harm his own welfare.

It's the streamers' fault, not streaming technology's. Netflix can afford higher quality because it's a more mainstream website with american gay tv shows which all faux hipsters watch, and it has money to pay for better servers.

I posted this on an older thread in /a/ but besides GNUnet and IPFS would Zeronet be a simple alternative home for a new nyaa or sukubei oriented site?
It's super easy to install and set up. Not only is it P2P site hosting but it allows instant site cloning and if I'm not mistaken, free domain registry.
I suppose a downside to this is if there is a site that is fairly large each individual user would have to download that site but one that only hosts magnet links shouldn't be too large. Also it has it's own chan at 0chan.bit with only a few boards though.

You won't really notice the difference in most cases, and I said Netflix has the best one because it's a mainstream website, but most people still pirates even those ones, so the same applies for it. Both Netflix and anime streaming sites will get better if we support them and

>>60202683
Connections also get better with time, it took long for decent ones to arrive in my country (until 5 years ago 10 Mbps would be the best one could afford) but now I watch every stream and download stuff very fast.

>>60202711
You're so much of a retard that even answering you is a waste of time. I just remind, in case anyone knows not, that copyright doesn't mean paying series by series, you pay 40 $ a year for Crunchyroll and watch everything you want, and there are also free anime streaming sites which only live by ads (even crunchy works like this without premium).

So please take your angsty teen communism elsewhere.

>>
ZeroNet has ZeroFrame which is pretty cool, allows people to add content. Max limit for a site is 10Mb but you can increase that if needed. You can also load optional files, so not everybody needs to seed the database from what I can gather, it's just a matter of how big does that database need to be. At Least with an actual server the server can look through the database and respond with only the data needed, if a client on ZeroNet needs to look through a database I believe they need to download the entire thing first.

I could very much be wrong though I've just started looking into it recently.

Netflix even on the higher setting is shit with garbage quality and no content
fansubers and encoders in general do a vastly better job than these so-called professionals who only do that for milking anime/movies fans.
Japanese companies should have the monopoly on japanimation/manga/lightnovel/jgame in western countries but these fuckfaces don't give a fuck and prefer suing diehard fans doing their job for free.

after 13 years of watching anime a month ago i finally got myself AB and jpopsuki accounts.
i advise you all to do the same. keeping ratio/upload is piss easy with point system, and i havent used private trackers since like 2007.

and well, there's still tokyotosho, irc and few other smaller trackers. sure, nyaa was a godsend, and _some_ content might be lost, but huge majority is still there. it might be harder to get, but not like all old torrents were seeded properly.
also check out jap p2p. winny/share (i guess they are dead now?) and perfect dark. it's good for stuff like older javs.
>>

As a guy who worked in my country's TV kn the 90s, and who had the chance to meet directors of anime studios when I worked there, I can tell you for sure that a huge part of the anime market's success was due to the fee TVs paid to import them outside Japan, and piracy in the west marked a big hit on japanese studios. sites like crunchy or funi are the last bits Japan is trying to get back from pirates, and luckily they're getting a nice reward from them, but if they were to lose field it would affect them indeed.

If they weren't concerned, they wouldn't make stuff like this:

Besides being much slower, you throw in the chance of more hardware failure (SATA to USB is a point of failure), as well as not having any active airflow (not that it needs much, but still it will lower life span).

Not to mention being much easier to accidentally knock over or similar. Dog/cat/child/whore you're sleeping with, etc can trip and knock shit over or something else.

TLDR, if you have the space internally, just take em out of their enclosures and throw them inside.

Be more worried about theft than anything depending on location, I had 2X2TB back in the hay day probably 8 years or so now with so much old shit that I had collected the years before that I probably couldn't even find now if I tried even if it was trash quality compared to todays standards.

Now I have 24TB in its own separate server locked inside a data cabinet also. Thieves tend to pick up what ever can fit in a backpack and is light. Servers are heavy as fuck and have no real value to thieves. Also moving into a much nicer area has helped.
>>
>>60203482
When you say you have external drives, how large are we talking, and are you using the full size drives, or the little small drives?
Best option for longer term storage is buying Western Digital Red.
Something to note, you don't need high speed drives for storage. NAS are good because they're designed to run cooler. Also if you buy the 5400 speeds, you can often save at least 1/4 of the price on them vs the 7200.
You CAN go with a raid setup, but you'd have to buy multiple drives of the exact same type, and set up the raid either within your own computer, or with a raid box.
In all honesty, buy an internal, stick it in, fill it up, then swap it out when it gets full. Stick it in an enclosure for continued access, and also to check if you've already downloaded something or not already.

There are groups out there dedicated to re-encoding things into mp4, and there's a reason for this, some people with toasters can't read mkv well so they download these instead of high quality BDs.

Because this doesn't concern you doesn't mean you have to shit on these people. I was in that situation until a few months ago so I know what I'm talking about. Orange tag was good enough, make an option to filter them and carry on your life.

No. Some people just don't work that "I have more money, so get better servers" way. Nobody will pay a full-priced product until it has a discount tag or cheaper alternative.

Quality is not even mentioned when calculating costs.
