In my experience most raid controllers are shit unless you're willing to shell out 100s.
And then you're locked in on hardware. Controller failed? Buy a new one of the exact serial and hope you can salvage your data.

Alternatively you can get a NAS and use linux with your storage of choice: mdadm, LVM, BTRFS, ZFS

It's inherent to flash storage, but of course SSD manufactures fail to mention it because they want to market SSDs as direct upgrades to magnetic storage. Here's a chart from some manufacturer for their enterprise SSDs, given in weeks until data integrity is compromised. Low operating temps + high power off temps are a worst case scenario. This is for new cells, too - with cell wear over time, unpowered data integrity is even shorter.
