My backup disk is not large enough, I could probably only keep the most important files. But I want to backup my Windows drive every week or so.
>Multiple disks with no redundancy
What do?
>>60114818
just a typical winfag setup
throw things wherever, hope to fuck nothing happens
I do not need so much memory. I store everything in icloud. 128 gb SSD in my Macbook Pro is enough
>>60114749
We can see who isnt trying here
>>60114845
Step one: Get loonux and pool your storage for redundancy with mixed disks
Step two: compress your backups and take differential backups so as not to waste space
>>60114969
>Get loonux
No, I will not.
>>60115006
Then you don't have a whole lot of options beyond buying a RAID controller
Or just host your storage on a NAS
I bought a 250gb SSD and said I'd get a second drive when I filled this one.
2 years and still 100GB free. I just remember to uninstall shit I'm finished with and delete movies that I watched. Photos, docs, and music take up so little space that you don't even need to think about them.

Yes.
In my experience most raid controllers are shit unless you're willing to shell out 100s.
And then you're locked in on hardware. Controller failed? Buy a new one of the exact serial and hope you can salvage your data.
Alternatively you can get a NAS and use linux with your storage of choice: mdadm, LVM, BTRFS, ZFS

Does your laptop have a DVD drive or cellular card? Often those are sata and can be repurposed for another drive, so you could keep the terabyte hdd and add a 120gb ssd for a boot or cache drive.

SSDs leak electrons. Why would I want TBs of data on flash storage? Magnetic storage doesn't have this problem, and I don't need IO, so literally no point using SSDs for storage.
>>60116515
Rotational velocidensity leaks bytes, which is worse than leaking electrons baka senpai

Read anywhere about flash storage (not just SSDs). And when left unpowered, I mean. It's inherent to flash storage, but of course SSD manufactures fail to mention it because they want to market SSDs as direct upgrades to magnetic storage. Here's a chart from some manufacturer for their enterprise SSDs, given in weeks until data integrity is compromised. Low operating temps + high power off temps are a worst case scenario. This is for new cells, too - with cell wear over time, unpowered data integrity is even shorter.
>>60116721
I never bothered to calculate the exact amount, thank you for doing that familia
