Opinions?
>>
>>60098684
K7XX = K702/K701/Q701 + 3 db below 100 Hz
K612 = a rebranded K601 with minor differences and a non-removable cable
K612 is better value.

You can get amps and DACs for less money with higher quality internal hardware. And I'm not even talking about chinkshit.

Alright /g/entlemen, the right driver in my Sony XB500s just shit its pants and I need another affordable over ear set of headphones.
Right now I have my heart set on some Philips 9500. I also want something that doesn't look like shit. I prefer a solid headband, not a floating strap style.

So i'm looking for my first high end or at least really good headphones and i came here to get some recommendations and opinion which i should buy. I'm mostly using headphones for listening music and really like ambient music and think that getting open back headphones would be great idea. My budget is 100-300€ and what i have heard is that sennheiser HD 598 would be great but it seems that they dont sell those anymore so i'm considering to buy HD 599's. Recommendations to which ones i should consider buy ? Also my current headphones are creative fatalitys so what should i except from the new ones? Will i cry because the beauty of the sound quality?

You can find it at around €280 in Europe.
>>
>>60101613
Only snapheisers worth purchasing are HD600. If you can't or don't want to get that look into AKG. k612/k702/k712/k7xx, depending on your budget and preferred sound signature.
HD598/599 are probably the most overrated headphones ever made, basically only consider those if you want to use them with your phone and look like a fucking moron for using overears outside.

I'm looking them for inside use only.
>>
>>60101829
HD600 are high (and pretty stable) impedance at 300Ω.

This means they will not be *very* loud, but will work well with pretty much any source, even shitty high impedance outputs (line out level).

Definitely grab HD600 if can at all. It's much better value/money than 599 and 598se. They're the Sennheiser headphone to get under 1k€.
>>
>>60098616
Would I be able to use the dac on my FiiO K1 with a standalone amp like a Magni2?
>>
>>60101829
If you ever think your sources suck (like, terrible noise floor from your computer), grab a cheap usb dac+amp device such as the Schiit Fulla 2 (excellent value/money) and that'll tell you how bad or not your sources were and have you well covered for non-deafening volume levels.

But definitely do not hold out for an amp or grab a cheaper headphone to allow for an amp. The headphone is what matters the most.

I remember really wanting some ath-ad700 around three years ago, but even back then you could only get them for like £300 because they were already discontinued so I settled for my current sennheisers. From what I recall they were great in all respects, amazing for gaming, with the only criticism being the lack of pounding bass - I was never a fan of over-exaggerated bass so that's fine by me. My research back then seemed to point that the 700x model was basically inferior, they fucked some shit up - I don't recall what exactly but I think it didn't quite achieve the 700 quality, and the cord had problems or something.

Is there a better version out now? How's the situation? is the 900X or whatever actually good? I don't feel like spending another few hours digging through reviews, but if anybody has a good idea of the lineup that would be nice.

I feel like upgrading and I might just start trawling for some deals to see if I can't find something good.

Do you guys prefer Open or Closed headphones?

Don't know whether to buy DT 990 or DT 770 (Beyerdynamic)
>>
>>60104327
Open are nearly always better, closed should be for work environments etc. Both of those headphones are decent but have piercing highs. Look into this hobby more, if you actually care.
>>
>>60104327
Depends on the use and environment.

DT770 is less intense of a V-shape.
I own it and the highs aren't piercing, while people say the 990 does have some harsh highs.
Both should be pretty bassy.

Well i was looking for monitoring and reference headphones, but then i had to make the discovery that "studio headphones" seems to be just another fucking buzzword companies put in their headphones names to make money, and 99% of them don't actually have a neutral sound, or not even close to it.

Fucking annoying desu
>>

>>
>>60104327
>Do you guys prefer Open or Closed headphones?
Open. They sound better vs price, and are generally more comfortable too.

I do also own closed and use them where I need isolation (at work, to not annoy/be annoyed by other people), but I'm well aware it's a compromise I simply have no alternative but taking there.

For closed, look at HD380 (somewhat bassy but decent).

Look at their FRs to confirm.

Audioquest NightHawk/NighOwl or Audeze LCD series. Audioquest's headphones were tuned to have speaker like sound, so good bass/sub bass and rolled off treble. They literally go on their website how highs are boosted on most headphones and how they need no shit like that in their headphones. Here are measurements where you can easily see highs roll off. Also they look sexy as fuck.

Looking for value for money headphones. Price range 50-150. They need to handle playing rather loud(about 50% louder from what you'd hear from standard earphones jacked to a smartphone). Pref over ear ones but can go either way if there's better value for lower prices with on ear ones. Never used anything above 20 buck from store headphones in my life. Use is for listening to music of a wide array of genres going from classical/orchestral to something more rough sounding like Justice(electro, bass-heavy i suppose?). You can use the following link for price references for my country http://www.skroutz.gr/c/1860/over-ear-akoystika.html?order_by=pricevat&order_dir=asc&price_max=200.0&price_min=50.001 Any help would be greatly appreciated i'm clueless on headphones.

The K240’s aren’t without their flaws. It’s kind of a headphone that grows on you. There’s a certain charm about these that’s hard to put your finger on. There’s so much history and quality behind the 240; it’s one of the most respected studio headphones in history, and I can see why. The sound is simply impeccable in most regards. Yes, it’s sort of a specialty set, but with what it’s meant for it really shines.

Consensus: Phenomenal mid-range, questionable build, decent comfort.

>>

>>
>>60111598
Value is subjective so I don't see the brand correlation here either way. /g/ has a tendency to force their own values on others and be blinded by them.

>>60111665
Not entirely. Positional accuracy is given by the game's audio engine more than anything else. Your headphones can only hope to represent the signal accurately, they cannot create additional information on the fly. Surround processing doesn't necessarily make the sound direction more accurate and in some cases it can hurt it.

The marketed surround sound channel count in headphones refers to the "headphone's" ability to downmix multi-channel signals into stereo. If the processing is good, the result can be very convincing. The processing is done in software. The surround processing often includes more than just downmix based on the HRTF such as added reverb. Reverb tends to add to the sense of space and immersion but doesn't help with the localization.

As you might guess by now, a game that does this processing in-engine when you choose headphones as your output device has a potential advantage over other solutions. In order to downmix multi channel content to stereo you don't need to have special headphones to do so, you just need the software. Gaming headphones often plug in to USB port with a dongle that does the processing. With those the only way to use the surround processing is to get the dongle and headphones. Razer surround is a generic software that let's you do the processing for any audio output.

Even without the additional processing, standard stereo sound when played back through headphones is very accurate for localization in games and very different from loudspeakers. The localization process there is heavily influenced by your listening skill and knowledge of the sounds in that specific game. I prefer it that way.

Yes. Their impedance vs freq is pretty stable and they're not particularly power-hungry, so it'll work well with most sources at healthy volumes.

An amp+dac is something you can get down the line if you don't trust your source for whatever reason (like, if it sounds different connected to different devices), or if you want more gain (to be able to get higher volume).

MSR7 or DT250, maybe.

All of those headphones you listed have more bass than AD-900X. K702 is bass light but decently neutral. DT990 has some bass boost but also a lot of treble which is the most emphasized area of its response. Like the DT990, DT770 is V-shaped with similar response. Its closed design lends it an advantage in bass extension over the open back models. It's the most bassy headphone of of these.

Are Beats Pro the best headphones of all time? I just listened to my richfag friends and I'm realy jelly, they are amazing.
>>
>>60114794
>They're pretty quiet
That means your amplifier lacks power. Since this is the HD 598 that sounds weird as they are pretty sensitive headphones. A lot of metal and electronic music is also loudly mastered.
>>
>>60114891
Talk shit about beats all you want but give props where credit is due. Without Dre inventing the headphone none of us would be here today
>>
Bought HD600s a few weeks ago partly on /g/s recommendation as an accompaniment to the K701s I'd been using for five years.

Must say I'm very, very impressed. Took a little while to adjust to them but I think it's fair to say they are quite a bit better than the K701s, certainly to my tastes. They're particularly excellent for rock and folk, which is good as I think those genres were the K701s weak point. I've also found the general audio quality and clarity is better - for example, I'd never noticed quite how poor the audio quality is on some albums I like (e.g. Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92) - I guess that could be seen as a downside, but I'm not upset about this as it's encouraging me to listen to a wider variety of music. I would definitely recommend them over the K701s now, although the price difference is not insignificant these days.
>>
>>60114891
>dr. dre reinvented it all by himself
I'm sure he developed and studied everything necessary to create the headphones on his own and then mass-prpoduced it by himself.
>>
>>60114891

Memes aside, how bad exactly are Beats?
Never listened to any of their headphones, all I know is people who wear them usually seem like total tools otherwise but that's not necessarily relevant.
Are they good and just overpriced, good and appropriately priced but hated for the marketing and target audience, or are they total and irredeemable trash?
>>
>>60115247
They're average but overpriced. Normies buy them as a fashion statement.
>>
>>60115252

So they're the Apple of the headphone world?
>>
>>60114752
lol they're pretty much a year old. Like I said I didn't need to buy them yet, but the one pad was annoyingly thinner than the other, though you couldn't actually feel the difference and they were still incredibly comfy. I'll be keeping this pair of pads on for much longer until they actually feel somewhat uncomfortable. It was more of a test if anything since I can't see myself buying any other headphone ever again.
>>
>tfw summer is coming up and it will be too hot to wear full sized headphones

I really need to get some fucking in-ear headphones.
The other day someone posted some that seemed to be very popular that don't actually go inside the ear-hole. Anyone remember which ones those were?

>>
>>60115416
Speaking for the HD600 and K701 there is a lot of sound leakage, but it's no worse than a television on a low volume. There's much worse things a flatmate could do, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Considering buying the Philips Fidelio S2. Does anyone have experience with these IEMs? Will use them for a few hours every day.

My RHA MA750's cable got worn and stopped giving audio to the right channel, was in the 3 year warranty and they're sending me a new pair free of charge, don't even have to send them in. Pretty satisfied, I've got to say.
>>
>>60115540
I never said i didn't know why they're too warm, but i was scared that if i bought open headphones they'd leak way too much audio and annoy people next to me in the train or in waiting rooms or w/e
>>
>>60115661
It's not a crime to have more than one pair of headphones.
You can use open at home and closed on the go.

Yeah, but i'm too reluctant to spend money on something i technically already have, especially since i have to save up money for a hair transplant cause i'm balding at 22 /blog

Just join the bald brotherhood and get some decent fucking headphones man. No hair looks much better than desperate attempts to conceal it.
>>
>>60115416
People have told me that they can hear my 600's in the next room. If you're paranoid because you listen to chink shit for example, the answer is yes, they will hear it, but only if they're trying to sleep and have their tv off etc. It's the only true downside to them.

Just because they're Chi-Fi doesnt mean they're shit. If you're fine with not a lot of bass, they're great for $10 (assuming you're buying the expansion pack with it which is very much worth it.)
>>
>>60115247
>Memes aside, how bad exactly are Beats?
Depends on which model are we talking about and where your preferences lie. Not that bad for a certain taste sound wise. Build is often quite nice.
>>
>>60114514
I think I'm returning mine. They sound good but not $300 good, and while the clamp didn't hurt my head my jaw aches like a motherfucker now.

I have no idea how these got the reputation they did.

>>
>>60115793
>>60115764
It really depends on the shape of your head and overall physic. If you don't have a weirdly/unproportionally shaped head and a you are in a good fit then girls will find you sexy and alpha as fuck, but otherwise it will be shit. At least your hair won't fuck up with your headphones, long hair with headphones+autism=suffering.
>>
>>60116360
Actually I'm not that one and I don't own an HD 600. I have tried them and liked the snug fit but that's it.

I manage to live by myself thanks.

At what point should you consider buying an amp/dac over upgrading your headphones?

The shills were rewarded with a day off for the increase in HD 600 sales.

Done some test leaving them on the desk and leaving the room. They need to be loud AF (unhealthy) to be hearable outside.

Maybe you should consider bringing the volume down.

They get comfortable over time. The first couple days are the worst.

One month in, comfy AF.

Door and wall quality could come into this, but I mostly listen to music when I'm drinking so you're probably right. They do leak sound quite a lot but I don't really care.
>>
>>60118184
I have quite a big head and the 600/650 are very tight, it's a fact. I loosened mine by stretching the metal bands, because I'm not a fucking retard. They're literally the most comfortable headphones once they've been stretched.
>>
>>60118184
They probably just don't understand what height the ear cups should be at on their ears and are wearing them a notch or two too small (or big, perhaps?)

Not to mention they loosen up over time
