The last couple of threads have been pretty boring. Let's talk /g/uys. What things have you been interested inn and looking at?

I just ordered my first third party key set and now I'm looking into 75% boards with standard keys and DIY boards. I want to build my dream keyboard, lay out similar to Noppoo choc mini, rgb's in the case and behind the keys just because, black aluminum case, GMK hydro.
Any keysets or boards that have caught your eye lately?
>>
>>60088031
Fuck you 1800 layout and its variants is best layout
>all the functionality of a fullsize
>aesthetically pleasing gaps that help locate different key clusters

How do you like the M9 compared to other pistols?

Also are you rish as fuck or something to own all those funs
>>
>>60088065
I don't know much about them to be honest.

Is the white/gray 108EC-Pro the only model available or is there more? I don't exactly dig that aesthetic(or rather, it's fine, but it fits exactly nothing else I own and that's gonna trigger me every time I look at my desk)
>>
>>60088145
I want a FC980C with the controller, silenced MX stems, and an Al case. I've been such a fan of my CP-SQ at work that I'd like to merge it with my Novatouch for home. However it doesn't seem like stem replacement is fully viable yet - the ones you can buy require some drilling for the stabilised keys, and you're completely boned with the space bar I hear. I don't know how soon (if ever) an Al case would come about, either.

Maybe someday.

As for caps, I want to see what kind of colourways will come out for MT3. I think the feel of SA matches that of Topre pretty well, so I'd be plum tickled to see something interesting come out in high-profile spherical PBT with decent legends.
>>
>>60087812
topre is the meme of memes

if you aren't ready to spend that kind of money then stick to cherries or something. i have to admit that topre seems nice looking at/listening to those videos but they require a decently large budget to get what you want out of them.

I can't seem to find any mechanical keyboards for an honest price that aren't marketed for gaymurs who easily get memed.

Are there any minimal mechanical keyboards, preferably knockoff Cherry, around 50 dollars, wireless, with low as possible resistance that a very kind and compassionate soul can find for me?
>>
>>60088728
it's niche and it's relatively expensive to make. a cherry switch just has a physical metal on metal connection. this is capacitive like the touchscreen on your smartphone.

hey guys, new here.

Just picked up the KUL cherry MX brown. also bought some blue dampener rings off amazon that will be arriving soon.

I'm kinda bummed all the other switches were sold out from KUL, does anyone feel that red switches would be superior? Looking for extreme speed and dexterity.

Love the form factor on this though, the design and build is flawless IMO

the gateron reds feel better.
they're still a light linear switch but they feel smoother and more predictable.

He forces Gateron not to create Gateron Purple/Old Clears, then sells them himself at a way higher margin than normal Gateron switches. And he constantly releases "revisions" to deal with key wobble, which doesn't actually address the issue, but makes his stupid fanbase buy more Zealios.

>>
>>60090072
You absolutely need a Cherry test board. Describing the feeling of each switch in words is worthless. I almost bought a keyboard with Cherry browns because it sounded like something I'd like. Luckily I decided to buy a tester board first and found that I hated the way browns felt. I ended up preferring Cherry blacks.
>>
>>60090139
I assume you mean black keycaps since the keyboard is black, but the answer to that is no. You'll have to buy separate black keycaps. There are all black 75% keyboards, but none of the ones I found had clears. Just the magicforce and race

I had to scratch an autistic itch I had an hour ago, so I designed a new keyboard layout to market to Power Usersâ„¢ and meme up the price.

The philosophy is, essentially, to have a fully function fullsize keyboard compressed into a single rectangle without spaces and making some minor adjustments.

Explain to me how and why this is either worth manufacturing or completely autistic shartware.

A friend of mine just got a Gateron Black keyboard, he let me get first crack at it to compare it against my MX Black keyboard. Tons of people say the MX Blacks are gritty especially compared to Gateron but i'm just not feeling it. They feel really close to me besides the Gateron being slightly lighter feeling.

Right control is stepped, similar to the caps lock key if you look carefully.
This is to make the caps lock key a smaller button while still filling in the space between it and A so that A is in a more comfortable position for the ring finger.

you shouldn't have the feet folded out anyway. but it's about time you upgrade to a mechanical keyboard. you'll have more options with ANSI instead of ISO. ANSI is much better anyway. also with a smaller keyboard you'll have more room to move the mouse.

meme mouse, meme keyboard, horrid color matching (in both actually, red spacebar version is only slightly worse).

And then because it's not all cheap looking enough, you had to add that wooden "wrist rest" (which actually feels fucking horrible for the wrists because it's so small and has straight edges so you end up resting your hands on the edge, having them dig into your forearm) thinking it's somehow automatically stylish because it's wooden. Not only does its color and texture not go with your hardware, but it's actually fucking mismatched with your desk as well.

My bank uses Visa, and I've never had issues with international orders. Also, like I said, I ordered two 3u spacebards for $9 from aliexpress *after* there were issues with this order, and I had no issue with that order (just got notified that it shipped).

Yeah, I'm trying to order them for a custom built board I'm working on. Just 3 days ago I probably would have never even considered dropping $80 on a set of caps, but when you see something that's exactly what you want you just can't compromise.

The ridiculous thing is that a custom build could, hypothetically, be way cheaper than a premade board--you just need switches, the cheapest possible caps, and a microcontroller (everything else is cheap if you can make your own case). But this will end up being my most expensive KB by far, probably around $180 when it's done.

Maybe if you live in china and can save money on shipping and shit but there are fully functional mechanical keyboards for like $30. It's impossible to compete with that when producing only one keyboard.
>>
>>60097021
>>60097418
oh they include the control key to be fair
>>
>>60097975
To be honest I posted hating on the price but they are gorgeous. I'm just a poor fag and can't throw $130 in the wind. Hats off to anyone that can afford them but they have 0 excuse for not making them in a superior plastic if you ask me.

They have every excuse to do so, you can't do that colorway with dye-subbed pbt and doubleshot pbt is not only a pain to manufacture but the legends also tend to look like ass.
>>
>>60098038
PBT is very fragile and doesn't fair well with double injection molding. It took Ducky almost a year to figure out a way how to make them somewhat reliably. The only other places that do double shot PBT is vortex and Tai-hao, but there are severe limitations.

Still, a keyboard (oh wait, it's $130 for just caps) for """programmers""" should be about texture, ergonomics, and durability. Looks are nice, but should be a very distant lower priority.

Did you buy them yet? That's one of three sets that comes with a 5.5u spacebar which is very uique. There is also a blank white set, a black with rainbow gradient legends set, and then the one you linked.
The last option is a shitty 3d printed one.

True, but if you wanted to do something that's traditionally really expensive, like your own ergonomic layout, you could get something for about $50-60 if you get the absolute cheapest switches, caps and controller, and can make your own case or PCB.

I'm close to just buying an ak33 or drevo board. They have the similar layout but use standard keycaps and are dirt fucking cheap. Under $50. The drevo exclaibur has the same layout but a metal case and removable cable. The primary feature keeping me on my noppoo is the hardware swap control and capslock which I need. I also love the pom caps but sadly Ibought thre white board and then changed my mind on going with a white set up.

The second shot injection pattern doesn't look like what I've seen in vortex caps previously, but everything else about them screams vortex. Though it seems that they updated their tooling anyway since the secondary legends are now arranged in a manner that allows for proper backlighting and there's that god ugly windows logo instead of "win" written on the super key
>>
>>60098272
i'm happy with these keycaps but yeah once i need a new keyboard or i need to replace the keycaps and there's no more compatible keysets on the market i'm probably getting a different keyboard which uses standard keycaps

You see anon, you need to take two separate keyboards and attach them to the sides of your desk chair, below the armrests. Then, let your arms hang straight down and you can use one keyboard for each hand.

This eliminates any need to twist your wrists or elbows, improves your posture, and helps you type with a lighter touch to reduce finger stress. Anything less than that setup, including wrist wrests, is kind of inferior and basically dogshit-tier trash that's literally guaranteed to give you wrist diseases.
>>
>>60098567
putting any pressure on your wrists is bad for you. Ideally You want your hands to hover over the keyboard. But if you use them as palm assist then that should be fine.
>>
>>60098687
That will definitely be a high-tier, good looking desk fedora, anon. Post pics when it's done

Old ass compass were mechanical, old Apple keyboards, Old Suns (if you can find the USB version (type 6 and latter IIRC had the option), otherwise it's a retarded proprietary connector (though type 5c is widely considered the best it didn't AFAIK come in a USB version))

If only they understood how bad it looks that the F keys are right above the number keys like that, instead of being spaced out a bit. Perhaps sacrifice the insert or printscreen button.

it's fine imo, doesn't bother me at all. it leaves no gaps and it's comfy to use too. i definitely wouldn't want anything more than a 0.25-0.5u gap between esc and f1. not a 1.0u gap like pic related. if the spacing was even then i think it'd look ok but i don't think i'd prefer it.

Why don't more companies do this layout? Had one for years before a move killed it. Would have to add a set of PBT caps to the cost to complete it. That makes it an almost $200 keyboard at that point.

Any information on a more ergonomic tactile layout than just using all of one switch? I cant even use reds after buying a board with blues but since i'm going to be building my own board I don't have to use all blues.
I'm thinking maybe watching what fingers I use for which keys and placing higher weight switches on the stronger fingers and super light or maybe even linear switches for the ones i hit with my pinkies or what ever
pic unrelated by i like its alot, its nice dont you think

I have a Razer Blackwidow ultimate, and I don't really like it. The switches are actually pretty good, if a tad inconsistent. However, I don't like the keyboard. Too big, crappy keycaps with a non-standard layout so it's difficult to replace those. I don't like having to use software to change lighting either. Sysnapse is aids.
Does anybody know what switches the "Razer Green" are emulating? It's clicky and tactile bump, so I'm guessing blue. Has anybody tried both blue and brown and want to compare them? I'm thinking about buying a smaller (but still full layout) board.

I mean, if I get all the extras just for the yellow highlights I want and then TWO base kits, that's plenty enough keycaps to cover two keyboards.

$150 / set doesn't seem so bad...

No those are the only two. Also look at the AK33, Noppoo Choc Mini, Keycool 84(if they're still made), http://winkeyless.kr/product/b-mini-x2-pcb/ is expensive as fuck but whatever
and uhh there's a new vortex shipping in a few months
remember to preach the glory of this lay out whenever you can. I suggest a noppoo if you don't ever want to replace the caps, excalibur if you does
