Huawei was caught using different types of memory chips in their P10, and apparently it's the case for the Mate 9 too. You could get LDDR3 or 4, or UFS 2.1, 2.0, or emmc, and it's random.

>>60068505
Be careful about bootloops though
>>
How are bootloops generally fixed? Does it depend on the phone?
>>
>>60068532
Yea. Sometimes a bootloop can be fixed because it's a software issue. The problem LG had with the early G4 and V10 phones was a hardware issue. They rolled out batches of phones that would eventually turn off and never turn back on. This hasn't been an issue in some time. For instance I have had the V10 since they fixed their problem and had no issues at all.
>>
>>60068532
LG never released an actual reason, some people said it was a problem with the solder on the SoC, others the SoC itself. And really even the 5x has bootloop problems so I just don't trust LG at all now.

Not bad at all. April security patch was released a few weeks late but that is the exception rather than the rule. My girlfriend's Galaxy S6 is still on the November 2016 patch. There are rumors that Nougat is in the works, which might be why the April patch was released so late.

Blackberry's customer support is also godly. Beats the shit out of what I used to put up with at Samsung.

>all this talk about phones losing support after a year or two

I don't normally like Apple products all that much but all I can say is thank God for the iPhone. I'm still using the same iPhone 5c that I got on my parents' corporate plan when I started university in 2013. It's running the latest version of iOS as of today. Name me a single Android phone, flagship or not, from that time period which is still supported with the latest OS updates. The Nexus 5? Maybe? But it's not getting Nougat as far as I can tell.

It's a shame because I really like Android as an environment. But there really is no excuse for this- Samsung's margins are almost as good as Apple's, and Blackberry is still supporting 4-year-old phones on a dying platform.

>>
>>60069931
Do you mean like do I own a Priv? I do indeed, had it since March 2016.

As for "locking down", I don't think it is locked in the sense that you're thinking of. The version of Android that Blackberry puts on their shit is pretty close to stock, and you can modify all the settings and appearance things you would normally be able to on a stock OS. What people are talking about when they say it is " locked down" is the bootloader is locked so it is difficult to load a custom ROM. This doesn't really bother me since I've fooled around with custom ROMs before and find them to be a bit of a hassle. Also all your shit on the phone is encrypted so it runs a bit slower than comparable devices. Has to be some kind of tradeoff for security.
>>
My 2nd gen Moto E has lasted me since 2015 but now it's shitting all over me, luckily I'm not as much of a poorfag as I used to be.

"The exec even went as far as suggesting that the "crooked" competitors have been blowing things out of proportions to smear Huawei. "We would never do such a despicable thing as cutting corners." Very occasional /g/ lurker here.

I'm reading a lot (and I mean A LOT) of negative shit about the S7 all over the internet - loads of normie hate. I've been using the S4 for the past 3 years with pretty much no hitches, I have about £350/$450 budgeted for a new phone. I like android, privacy and a phone that uses it's battery economically.

Is the S7 a good bet, does it have the stamp of approval around here?
>>

I won't spoil it for you but C is the best for me.
>>
>>60070879
Whatever happened to the Moto E anyways? Was it replaced by the G4 Play?

Take it from someone who has been buying expensive phones all his life, don't bother spending more than $400 on a phone. Because no matter what they are going to be garbage after 2 years or so. I got a Moto G4 plus at BestBuy a few weeks ago for $230, even though it's refurbished I couldn't be happier. I'm completely okay with this phone coming from a Galaxy S4 so you'll probably love it coming from a Moto E. Best part, I'll use this shit for 2 years and probably sell it for around $60, meaning I only suffer depreciation of $85 per year on a not-too-bad phone.

Being a poorfag sucks, but being cheap when you don't need to be is a lot of fun.

>>60071240
CDMA, by default, allows for far greater carrier control over your phone than GSM, and therefore any carrier that uses it is shit.
>>
>>60068283
I use a glass screen protector because they are the only ones that don't feel like shit. Normally I'm against a case because the phones look so good without them, however, I have one on my phone because I have a knife in the same pocket and I don't want my phone getting scratched

So I'm confused about a few things:

1. Playing phone games is retarded, but you still need an 820 because ???
2. Touchwiz sucks ass, yet you gladly buy shitty chink phones with far worse wannabe iOS skins like MIUI
3. Do chinkphones even hold up over time? I feel like getting flagship specs in a $200 phone is great for longevity, but it doesn't matter if the thing breaks in a year.

I don't even want to criticize people's choices, I'm just genuinely curious.

As other anons have said, I'm afraid not. I'm a bit obsessed with phones, and I'm always on the edge of my seat hoping to hear news of a new sub 5 inch phone with great specs being released, but that just isn't a thing. GSMArena added a rumored "Xperia XZ Compact" which if like the Z5C would be a 4.6in screen, but other than that page there are literally no news articles to backup this rumor, and so my hope is literally zero.

In 2017, and 2016, and hell even 2015, 5 inches is the new "small" phone. iPhone SE is the best on the market there is.

I have no love of iOS or Apple, but I have a love of small phones, and unless Sony makes an XZ Compact that remains under 5 inches, there are no other small phones with great specs.

God willing anon. Even then, there are very few android phone OEMs who can be counted on for providing reliable updates to their devices, which also makes the stability you want a bit difficult. This is the big problem with android. Manufacturers feel the need to insert their own half baked memeware, and then discontinue support for the phone after 18 months.

>>60075845
I'm just hoping that this massive phone thing is a fad and dies down in a few years.

I think at some point people will get over the big dick factor of having a 6.5" screen, and realize that 4"-5" is just better 95% of the time.
>>
>>60075915
I've been hoping that for awhile. I don't think we're headed in that direction. The Galaxy Note series was one of Samsung's most popular phones, and the new S8 and S8+ which literally dwarf the device in terms of useable screen space are the best selling thing Samsung has made.

The LG V20 is also a big seller, just got to GSMArena, do the phone finder and have the setting set to

Year: 2015 - 2017
Screen Size: 5 or above
Sort by: Price Group (so you can see the phones with flagship specs first)

Honestly the Priv gets more reliable updates than pretty much any non-Google phone. The locked bootloader is a plus from a security standpoint, and given my experience with custom ROMs, you aren't missing much.

At $399 Canadabux, factory unlocked, you really can not go wrong. My guess is it is still going to get monthly updates for a year or so and might even get Nougat. Blackberry is going to be hinging their reputation on software. They, unlike Samsung, cannot afford to abandon something prematurely.

Not the anon you've been replying to, but I'm really tempted to upgrade from my Nexus 5 to the Keyone (originally Priv, but the Nexus was doing just fine). Although I'll have to see how it feels in hand of course, it simply looks more attractive than every other new phone I can think of. Small screen, physical keyboard with programmable shortcuts, reasonably placed fingerprint sensor, trackpad--stands out overall. Only personal downside from the current info is the headphone jack on the top and not bottom. And I probably won't be able to enjoy the occasional point-and-click adventure game, but nowadays I rarely have the desire to game on my phone. Most I play is Tetris. As long as I can multitask between web browser, Google Docs, and other apps I use for writing, it seems ideal. Cozy.

>>
>>60081460
it very much underperformed for having a 3000mAh battery

make sense to buy a galaxy note 4 in 2016?

looks like pretty good value

About to go to the store and pick up my new phone, but im still not sure if I should go with s7 or s8. Im upgrading from a note 4 and i honestly just wish the note 7 didnt have the issues it had so i could have gotten that. So for those who switched from the notes to the other lines like that, is there anything major other than the pen you lose?
>>
g3 was dying and i finally made it fall on the ground

i think i could have caught it but i didnt bother because i want to change phone anyway, or replace the digitizer as the issue was touch screen issue

should i bother changing the screen digitizer or buy a new phone

See pic. Keep in mind these results are from the Exynos variants unless otherwise specified. With both the S7 / S7 Edge and S8 / S8+ the Snapdragon variant gets worse battery life than the Exynos.
>>
>>60077498
Might just go with the s8 then. Now I just need to get over not having the note pen
>>
are there any sub 200 chinkphones with great cameras?
>>
>>60081920
the ZUK Z2 has the best chink cam but differs often in price so I can't say how much it is
>>
whats the best sms app? The one on the s7 always wakes the screen when you get a message (which is horrible) and you cant turn that off

Mi4c
https://www.fastcardtech.com/XIAOMI-Mi4C-32GB.html
make sure you choose "original new" version. "official exchange" = refurbished.

Another option is the ZUK Z2

Or Coolpad Cool1

Here's some photos from Mi4C and Zuk Z2 for comparison.

Got pic related 2 months ago, am pretty happy with it

It got decent battery life, good camera, top security apps and a very good price of 250€

What do you guys think?
>>
>>60068283
>If not, why?

I hate how the phone feels with them on. Have never broken a phone either, but if I ever do, I can afford to replace my $200 chinkshit no problem.

should have just gotten the TCL/Alcatel generic model. Blackberry is shit.
>>
>>60082073

>>
>>60082073
Unrootable is the point, fagtron
It's about as secure as an Android device gets
>>

I don't do much with my phone or tech in general

>Android
>Secure
You fags are retarded. Just because attackers don't have root doesn't mean they can't get your info. Loss off root only harms the user
>>
>>60082201
the fact that no-one has been able to root it yet shows it's more secure than your regular android phone
>>
>>60082402

The reason it doesn't have root is because nobody in the modding community owns one or gives a flying fuck about it, not the hardened version of Android that BlackBerry created for it.

>implying most of the current root methods wouldn't work if actually implemented for the DTEK handsets
>jcase and his cohorts could crack that shit over a weekend if they gave a fuck but there's nothing interesting about doing it
>>
>>60069141

TURN THE BRIGHTNESS DOWN, DUMBASS

>constantly see people with their smartphones in any environment and the brightness is always fucking maxed out
>implying they can't use the phone with 40-50% brightness or even less with today's super bright displays
>people wondering why their battery life is shit

The backlight (LCD tech) or brightness (OLED) of the display is the biggest fucking drain on the battery in a modern smartphone.

LOWER THE BRIGHTNESS, DOUBLE THE BATTERY LIFE AND WITH AN OLED YOU'LL DOUBLE THE LIFESPAN OF THE DISPLAY TOO

Doesn't that also mean that you're far less likely to get targeted by phone hackers or something if you use a DTEK because it's used by so few people and they'd rather just do it to a regular android?
>>
>>60082448
Blackberry claims they make the most secure android phones, you'd think hackers would be all over that to prove them otherwise.

>implying most of the current root methods wouldn't work if actually implemented for the DTEK handsets
>jcase and his cohorts could crack that shit over a weekend if they gave a fuck but there's nothing interesting about doing

If it's so easy why hasn't it happened yet?
>>
>>60082541

"phone hackers" don't target anyone in particular, their attacks are meant to just cause everyone using a particular device (in our example Android-powered ones regardless of the manufacturer) or platform.

If someone targeted a DTEK owner, more than likely they'd just literally attack them physically and steal the damned device itself.

I assure you, DTEK ain't all that, it's better than "stock" Android or any other manufacturer's customized versions but, it's still not all that for anyone that truly knows what the fuck they're doing.
>>
>>60082560

Do you even know who jcase is?

Lenovo K6 or Wileyfox Swift 2?
>>
>>60082578
> it's still not all that for anyone that truly knows what the fuck they're doing
Yeah I'm pretty sure about that but for the low price I really like it

Also feels kinda secure when I have to type in three different codes after a restart to boot and unlock it
>>
>>60082663
Wileyfox if you must, simply based on ROM

Not that guy but I use Textra as my daily driver sms app. It's very snappy and offers a lot of cool features like scheduled messaging. I'd say try it for a bit and see if you really like it or not. As after a while they include ads in it (they show up at the top of where you would go to pick a conversation) but they're non intrusive and it's only a dollar to get rid of them
>>
>>60082479
Your post made me wonder if you could, somehow, add an e-ink display on a regular smartphone for regular tasks which doesn't require color or fast input to save battery, have it always on and would always be visible in bright sunlight? Like on the back of a symmetrical phone with a "real" LCD on the front. Flip it in your hand to change "modes".

>Implying it would break easier than the glass front/back phones today
>>
My xperia z2 is getting old and running low on internal storage. Would buying a nokia 6 be an upgrade or downgrade?

Why the fuck can't you organize your photos into folders on an iPhone. I know you can make folders that link to the photos all massed in the camera roll but that's fucking bullshit. When I open my photos I want a clear organization of what kind of photos are where. Instead I need to deal with this bullshit of not having even the tiniest amount of organization in my camera roll.

you can actually fit a LG G2 battery in it with some modding
