Laravel is nice, because PHP is everywhere and it's nice to deploy.

But Ruby on Rails is also a lot to programm with.

The difference isn't really that great, since both frameworks share a similar philosophy. It's more about wether you want to use PHP or Ruby. And there are enough Jobs for both.

To begin with, Rails was probably the most influential web framework ever. Even half of the modern PHP frameworks were somehow influenced by it.

Of course it's not the fastest, but it's reasonably fast for a lot of things.

BTW:
Pure PHP is much faster fast. But Laravel also slows things down quite a bit - which is OK, since it's just the costs of abstraction.It might still be faster than Rails, but not as fast as PHP.

Also if you really develop a website that big that you notice the result: congratulations.

This is true to some degree, as Rails influenced many other frameworks. But Rails5 has come a long way in the last decade..
And still there is no framework which lets you develop as fast as Rails. For a simple CRUD API it's my favorite choice.


Don't get me wrong, I don't look down on Laravel. Laravel is basically the saviour of PHP and it's by far the best PHP framework out there.

But there's no reason to look down on Rails.
