Is there any risk in buying a Oneplus 3t or is it a legit android smartphone?
>>
>>60004545
No risk besides putting up with no SD slot, subpar screen, camera bump and mediocre camera, it's future proof and pretty cheap for what it offers.
>>
>>60004568
Yeah the whole no SD slot and no changeable battery that most manufacturers do nowadays gets on my nerves but don't they all do that? Camera bump, not so much.

In what way is the screen subpar?

Shit visibility in sunlight, even at the lowest brightness it's still way too bright to use comfortably at night unless you use that ambient/night light shit, yellowish pentile screen wasn't fixed, it still uses the same shitty panel as the OP3, still it's a damn good phone though, for 400 dollars you're getting something that will last you 5 years while samcucks and applefags have to put up with a measly 4GB of ram, bloat and botnet up the ass and replacing their expensive baby toys every year.

How is tempered glass supposed to protect my screen?
>>
Opinions on these new non-16:9 screens?
>>
>>60005607
It breaks instead of your screen breaking

the process of your sacrificial tempered glass breaking dissipates the energy of the fall into the tempered glass causing it to shatter, this energy isn't as easily passed onto the glass of the phone itself and what does get passed on is marginal compared to the energy form the original impact.

It's one-use body armor for your phone

2:1 ratio is good for split screen apps

Bought one on release. It's probably the most well-rounded smartphone I've owned. The camera's nice but not as good as Samsung, battery life is good, screen is nice, and the stock skin isn't nearly as bloated as TouchJizz. I like it better than the Galaxy S6 I had before it.

Looking to get a new phone with no particular price range. I guess I'm just looking for the best bang for the buck.

Previously had an LG G4 before it randomly died on me and I've been using an old iPhone 4S since then (and I hate it).

I'll only use my phone for games, maybe watching youtube/videos in general, browsing the internet, etc.

Current network is AT&T.

I know practically nothing about current smartphones. Any suggestions?

>>
>>60009574
overall it's high end
i personally love the screen and the slickness of the design
it's fast as shit, great storage
to be honest you seem to already have your mind set, so spring for something cheaper
>>
>>60009531
I'm not sure what "stock Android" really means because I've only ever owned one Android phone, that being the LG G4, but I'd like the least amount of bloatware as possible and of course, the least spying.

I'd really like a good camera for taking pictures. I'm not looking for super-professional quality but I want them to look really good. The G4 took some really nice photos but I'm not sure what the exact quality was on them.

I'd like to keep the phone for some time without it breaking on me soon or becoming irrelevant. Because of this I think that I'd be willing to go for something a bit more expensive as long as it functions great.
>>
>>60009598
Oh, to add onto this, I really don't care for the "edge" design on phones, where the screen curves around the sides or whatever. It looks ridiculous and doesn't seem functional at all. I also don't care if there's a fingerprint scanner or not, because frankly I really don't trust those things anyway and I probably wouldn't use it.

Do you have a price-range? Also are you on a CDMA network like Verizon or Sprint?

Most phones take pretty good pictures these days, the standout being the Samsung Galaxy S8, iPhone, and Google Pixel. That being said, most phones take pretty good photos all things considered.

If you care about longetivity (more than 2 years) I would avoid Apple, Samsung, or LG. Samsung is notorious for hardware slowing down after a few months and Apple's mandatory iOS updates bogs the phone down with features it doesn't need which is part of its planned obsolescence. LG has QC issues overall. HTC, Google, and a handful of chinese manufacturer's do a great job with longetivity with software updates varying from company to company.

good, that means you're able to use GSM phones which are the standard these days. If price is no object the OnePlus phones have been good. OnePlus3T is a good all-around package but the OP5 is supposedly just around the corner. HTC's recent stuff has been just "okay" and overpriced. Stuff like the Axon 7 are being hailed as absurdly affordable though the software support has been described as just okay, if not bad.

do you have any other requirements? It seems like you'll be happy with most any choice.

OK nerds here's my deal. Currently on Sprint in the US. I HAD a Galaxy S6 that I broke. Right now I'm using my old Moto X. A week from tomorrow my contract with Sprint ends and I wanna go to Verizon.

Talk to me about using an open GSM phone on Verizon. I'm interested in owning the phone outright. I've read that by doing this, I wont have to deal with bloatware.

Recommend me a good android phone that I can use on Verizon's network. I'm interested in a small screen and I dont want a phone that has the curved screen edge like the new S8. My new phone will be in a rubber case. I'm leaning towards the Galaxy S7.

unless it supports CDMA bands it's not working on Verizon, period. You might be able to use the internet in some parts of the states but calling and texts is a no go. Stuff like the OnePlus3, Sony Xperia, new HTC phones, and Axon 7 won't work on Verizon unless there is a version specifically made for them.

Yeah, here it is black in a mostly white Google window. You can force the color in settings if you want.
>>
>>60010071
>you're fucked, all phones are going phablet size as of recent.

Yeah I finally bit the bullet and got rid of my iphone 5s

I actually appreciate a large screen after having a tiny one for so long though. I think if I tried to downgrade I'd just go with a dumbphone instead of a compact smartphone
>>
>>60010060
>There's always custom roms though, right?
You're still using android, which unless you disable Google Play services (and your access to the Play app store), you will have data sent between you and google.

Again: Privacy is basically not possible or worth it on these phones. If you're a nut about people archiving your searches you should consider a non-smartphone.

>>60010097
That's my issue, I was able to make it black in the settings. It is black except for when I use the keyboard.

I have a 5.5" phone and though I loved the size it was really inconvenient a lot of the time. i hated that I could no longer do a lot of stuff one handed and it tended to make my arm tired after more than a few minutes. My DNA was a little on the small side but I feel like a 5" or 5.2" would be perfect.

honestly I would've bought the S8 or Pixel if it weren't for the fucking single fire speaker. All of these fucking bullshit artists go on about "PREMIUM FEATURES" and not a single one

Someone told me "you should probably just buy a bluetooth speaker instead" and I nearly strangled them. The whole point of a phone is to be mobile. I can't even begin to recall how often I used the loud speakers on my moto for listening to music while working or cooking. They're a godsend.

Either that or wireless charging.

>>
>>60010842
Literally one of the only reasons I've held on to my Moto X Pure (basically the same as a Nexus 6 but worse build quality and support) as long as I have is because the speakers are fucking fantastic. It's not the cleanest audio, but I can hear it in basically any event or environment and isn't tinny. Really nice when cooking or at a friend's party. That and the moto gestures which are really nice but probably replaceable with other features.

But man Moto's shit support makes me want to drop the phone.
>>
>>60010724
Let me guess, pixel owner? Only people I see saying wireless charging is shit is pixel owners. I will not buy a phone without it. I keep a dock next to my bed and in my work desk. So handy to just sit the phone down and have it charge.

Wireless charging is literally the stupidest shit ever. It's a gimmick. It wastes a lot of energy and is useless when it takes 5 seconds to plug in a charger. The chassis is amazing. Pictures don't do it justice, you have to hold it in hand to understand. Samsung is way ahead of everyone else here.
Screen has accurate colors and is super bright.
OS is nothing like the TouchShit of old. It's basically a slightly reskinned AOSP. And there is almost no preinstalled crapware.
The default launcher is not configurable in any meaningful way, but it's very responsive.
Fingerprint scanner position is bad. It's so easy to smudge the lens instead of unlocking. Also, you get vibration feedback only on failed unlock, not on a successful one. That makes it hard to use for me.
Bixby is a fucking waste of a hardware button.

I know the obvious answer would be the pixel, but the 2 year shelf life of updates is kind of disappointing. OnePlus 3T could be another one, but the support from what I hear is abysmal. The fuck is "iPhone of Android" supposed to mean.
>>
>>60016212
Do you mean like the flagship android phone?

Samsung Galaxy in the US at least, maybe the Xperia if you're in Japan
>>
>>60016237

Modern iPhones:
Solid build, great camera, great support, reliable updates.

Android:
All of the above.. but spread across multiple platforms.

I didn't mind iPhones so much for the above, but couldn't keep it due to how much more I enjoy the Android ecosystem.
>>
>>60016284
>>60016212
Any non-chink flagship has that. Pixel, Samsung, whatever.

The problem is updates. You have to consider that major updates in Android are not as important as they are in iOS. (Security updates aside, but those generally keep coming after the major ones stop)

In iOS, I'm sure a few weeks after iOS 11 comes out, many apps will stop targeting 10 and you'll lose their updates. This isn't the case in Android.

Seeing this pic from my Galaxy s8 and both pics are completely fine
>>
>>60016284
Try iDroid.
>>
I have no idea what to pick between a SE and 3T.
Does the jump to android is that important?
>>
>>60010565
>>60011150
Forgot to mention that its the 8GB version.

Just throw in a 32gb sd card and call it a day, right?
>>
Curious Anon here. Is there a simple phone out there that would be able to have whatsapp and viber? Just a regular phone like an old 3310 but with whatsapp and viber?
>>
>>60016986
You talking iPhone SE? 3T will give you way more value
>>
>>60013360
not helpful in the situation.
>>
>>60015728
I mean, LineageOS is mostly for having reliable updates and a good skin, instead of dealing with waiting for Samsung's good will to push Nougat or something. No need to wait with iOS.
>>
>>60017036
Not as great a deal then since it only has 1gb ram. But for grandparents it's perfect. Yes, get an SD card and set the camera to save pictures to it so they don't run out of space. The low internal storage will limit how many apps they can install but it shouldn't matter too much.
>>
>>60017224
How's the migration to android?
I may miss some stuff from iOS?
>>
Who else here
>hoping that nokia will release a decent 5 inch or lower midranger
?
>>
I live in the UK and am looking to replace my Galaxy S5 as it has begun to act up.

I only ever use my phone for emails, social media, web browsing and games like Marvel Future Fight and Clash Royale.

I would prefer expandable storage and a half decent camera as I like to go hill walking and take photos of the dog.

Not looking to spend more than £300 if possible.

All suggestions appreciated!
>>
>>60016986
Definitely the SE. Android is way better than it used to be but it's still really clunky compared to iOS. Every lagging Android animation and buggy third party app will make you regret not going for the device with better software.
>>
Huawei Nova, Galaxy A5 2017 or Honor 8?
>>
>>60007965
miui IS full of bloat but it gets better battery life than lineage and is just as lag free

Moto G5 Plus

>>

What about the Lenova P2, it's a bit more expensive than I originally budgeted for but I hear the battery life is fantastic.
>>
>>60018474
It's better than the Moto G in most ways but the camera isn't as good.
>>
the mi5 s gets more interesting. Apparently there now exists a mokee rom (official) for the phone. Oh man, what do. x compact, mi5s or wait for nokia.
>>
>>60018722
Why not just get the Mi5? The custom ROM support is way better.
>>
>>60018736
can't find a black one anywhere online
>>
>>60017698
I just wish the 6 had a Snapdragon 600 series instead of the 430. I like the 5.5" size. Maybe it's not a huge difference but my phone has a 410 and I want my next upgrade to be more significant.
>>
I fucking missed the flash sale on banggood for a redmi note 4 cause some dumb shit cashier messed up the activation on a prepaid visa.
Almost lost 150$, but the call center helped me out and I got it back three fucking days later.
But now I can't find the Note 4 anywhere for 150$... Is there a way to get coupon codes or anything like that for ali, bang, top, or any sites like that?

Lol, what else did they forgot to put in the phone?

So I just got a G5 Plus, coming from a Galaxy S4 which I had for many years now.

Considering that Xiaomi devices are way too expensive here with taxes here, did I not fucked up?

Has anyone tried the earphones that comes with the S8? How are they?

What is the best app to create custom widgets on a rooted phone?
>>
>>60020144
I've got a G5 (minus?), I'm very happy with it.
I'd say "for the money" but I'm not sure what paying 5 times as much would get me that I don't have.
>>
>>60020191
Very good

>>60019732
Because everything Samsung is bad in contrarian general

>>60019330
The 6 should've had a 625 and the 5 the 430 instead of having them both on the same soc, it's a real shame because the g5+ is the clear winner since the camera on the Nokia 6 seems pretty crap in comparison
>>
I can use a moto g1 xt1031 screen in a xt1032 right?
>>
>>60020144
Just got mine a week ago. It's a great little phone and I'm very happy with it, cheap or not.

It is the first smartphone I've had that doesn't have a notification LED though. Still getting used to that.
>>
>>60020615
You're right, I never got a phone for over 300$ and never missed out on anything
>>60020758
Same man. But the screen flashes when a notification comes and the fingerprint sensor is the fastest I've ever seen, so it's not a huge deal
>>
Looking for a back up phone to my Galaxy S8+, just in case I lose, break it and/or get rolled for it.

Budget is $500 and I just want to stream YouTube and the EPL.

Thanks goys.

Ok so yesterday I got a new phone because my old one got rekt. I have 3 separate Gmail accounts, had em all signed into my old phone. Got the first one signed in on my new phone, by when I click add account, it takes me to a screen that says 'enter current password'. What fucking password? What is this shit?
>>
>>60011436
I have a K6 and its pretty good, so Vibe K6
>>
>>60020900
>$500 backup phone

For a backup way too expensive

Get a G5 for $180. It would still be snappy af

If you want to get overkill, you can get an S7 for even below $500. Obviously OP3T as well.
>>
>>60020859
>But the screen flashes when a notification comes
Yeah, I'm not usually looking at my phone though. I'm used to just occasionally glancing at it and only checking it if there's a light blinking.

>the fingerprint sensor is the fastest I've ever seen
Yeah the fingerprint sensor is amazing.

Is having Gapps a problem?

If so, I think Xiaomi and other chink phones don't have gapps, but then the possibility of having chink bloat on them.
>>

Just get one of the Xiaomi phones and put LineageOS on it.

Lenovo P2 or Oneplus 3T?

Lots of reviews for Lenovo 2 show prices as £200 but can't find a model for under £300 and unsure if it's carrier locked or not.

OP3T is unlocked and solid price of £399

Just looking for a good android phone.
>>
>>60021316
OP3T has overall better official and unofficial support since it's more popular.

Especially unofficial software support can be very useful in the long run.

What's a good app for SMS?

Just got an HTC 10 on sale (because the U Ultra looks like overpriced ass) only to find that despite them hyping up less manufacturer default apps they still shipped it with a crappy HTC messaging app. Android Messages is nice, but doesn't have the option for a dark theme which i want.

google messenger? It's what I use
