Because it's a much better layout that doesn't force you to go full autism with memorising multiple layers of shortcuts to reach full functionality, and only slightly bigger.

It's built better than literally any other keyboard out there, fully programmable, and weighs like 5KG. I'd choose it over any of my other boards.
Maybe you should buy one instead of thinking you've reached 'end game' because you own a hhkb or something.
>>
>>59986551
Serious question, why do you care about weight? I've always wondered why Korean custom fags jack off over heavy keyboards so much but they won't tell me
>>
>>59986585
It's a good indicator that the board is built like a tank.
My hhkb for example weighs very little and it'll make a slight creeking sound if you try to flex it where as my model m's or f's that weigh a lot more wont flex creek at all.
>>
>>59986629
that's just because hhkb is a meme
>>
>>59986629
It's not always accurate though, my RS68 is heavier than my WKL board because of its full metal case, but the build quality is lower and it has way more flex because of the thin plate and the PCB only being supported by a handful of spread out screw posts.

It is. Closes on the 30th, although he said he was going to close it months ago.

>>59988576
It's too rare to have a standard name. My coworker has that board and likes it a lot. I'd probably pick one up if it was fully programmable.

Your best bet is probably buying one, desoldering the stock and putting in the ones you want.
>>
>>59988711
Looks pretty nice, but I'm happy with my Tada68, and I hate DSA profile.
>>
>>59988711
meh

if someone wants to make a new 75% it should use as standard keys as possible. top row same as choc mini. 2x1.25u to the right of spacebar (or 2x1.5u or 3x1.0u options) and 1.25u right shift (1.75u option). this leaves a 0.5u gap at the arrow keys but it's ok. boom any keyset will fit especially with blanks or if you aren't too picky about the legends.
>>
>>59988971
and the arrow keys can be centered in the gap so it's only a 0.25u gap on each side of the arrow keys
>>
>>59988994
>gaps between keys
literally unusable
>>
do nongamer mechanical keyboards even exist?
im not willing to pay for the "gamer" markup
>>
>>59989022
a 0.25u gap is almost nothing. you have much wider gaps around the arrow keys on a tkl for example.
>>
>>59989052
or like 0.25u next to the side arrows
>>
>>59988971
Its not really new since the original race came out like 4 years ago, but its nice to see these keyboards becoming more affordable. $130 for this compared to the $300+ korean customs with similar build quality, plus It has a function row unlike the tada68.
>>
>>59988994
and you could move the arrow keys down 0.25u if you want to make it look better from a design perspective like the arrow keys have their own sectioned off area like a shrunken tkl type design

>>

>75%
I prefer 65%
>Programmable Layers
I'd rather have the kind of capability you see in customs, where you update firmware
>CNC aluminum case
Actually a detriment with portable boards, too heavy
>Dye-sub PBT DSA Keycaps as stock
No thanks, I like my keyboards to be actually functional, and a uniform profile is garbo for usability
>>
>>59991131
You can go to microcenter since they also have realforce keyboards if you want to test them out in person. There is also ncix and a few other places.
>>
Why are Topre boards so fucking expensive? I get the whole economy of scale thing, but they can't be that incredibly expensive to produce.
>>
>>59991269
They are a Japanese product produced in limited supply. Also capacitive sensors are still expensive since the Chinese topre clones cost 80-100 bucks. Even back in the 2000s BTC dome and sliders cost that much.
>>
>>59991035
I'm not even into keyboards but that looks pretty dope. How much is this?
>>
>>59992033
~$170 + $40 for caps
>>
>>59991317
>Also capacitive sensors are still expensive since the Chinese topre clones cost 80-100 bucks

Surely if they get more popular it's cheaper to produce than a mx clone? Less parts?
>>
>>59991131
>>59991142
Check if they do first. My microcenter definitely does not carry topre.

I picked up my realforce on eBay, $175 for basically unused beige tkl 55g

No reason to pay extra for a new board.
>>
>>59992284
Part of the cost is due to the design. The rubber sheet has to match the PCB, versus being able to produce a mass of switches which can be soldered on after the fact. So there is less flexibility/reusability of topre components vs MX.

I could envision a rapid price drop if the rubber sheet became somewhat standardized among different cases, but that's currently not the case.
>>
What switches are good for office use? I am leaning towards browns or clears as blues can annoy the fuck outta my coworkers. Also anyone got any keyboard recommendations for 80-100% keyboard?
>>
http://matt3o.com/about-mt3-profile-and-devtty-set/
>>
>>59992417
Any cherry switch will annoy the fuck out of your coworkers, even linear like red/black.

Go topre or go home, it's the only acceptable choice for an office. Don't be that guy who gets a fuckload of attention for using "silent" brown switches that are still 10x as loud as the company issue keyboards.
>>
>>59992417
All cherry switches are louder then traditional membrane keyboards. Either get a quiet mech like cherry silents if you prefer linears, or matias qc if you like tactile switches.
>>
>>59992445
you sound like i am in a cubicle, but I am in a office with closed doors. I honestly don't even know if cherry blues will be heard, but I think it is a good idea to be a bit considerate.

1986 silver labels are the only good Model Ms, everything afterwards is cost-reduced and objectively inferior.
>>
>>59992417
My 65g Zealios are no louder than my neighbours' OEM dome boards. This is because I don't hammer on my keys and barely bottom out. If I went all-out it would be quite loud.

I actually was a bit worried at first that it would be annoying for them, but even the oversensitive types near me don't notice a difference (or at least enough of one).
>>
>>59992482
Then you should make enough that you can afford a topre.
>>
>>59992482
Cherry blues are about twice as loud as a microsoft membrane keyboard that most offices use. Now if the doors are closed then it shouldn't be that much of an issue, but if you want to play it safe, you could get one of these

I don't like how many keyboard manufacturers put their logos on the super keys. I get that its done because many of their buyers use operating systems that aren't windows, but it just looks ugly. I do like how the keyboard is understated and doesn't have gaudy lighting. It reminds me a lot of a Ducky One, so I wonder what the differences are.

The funny thing is his GB were delayed cause SP has shit quality control. A lot of their molds are broken, but they wont fork the ~50-100,000 bucks to fix it. As a result he's done working with them. Round 7 will be his last and then he's off to the chinks.

I created a programming layout for qwerty (pic related).
Some interesting stuff: The number row is now primarily for symbols, numbers can be accesses with shifts.
The most common symbols for C/C++ programming are now index, middle and ring finger away, parenthesis lefts and rights are on different hands.
Caps Lock brings back the default qwerty layout.
It's based on us(altgr-intl), the AltGr modifier is preserved for these keys.

Well, the symbol layout on ANSI is less then optimal though. Simple () parenthesis should be the most reachable, then {}, then []. It's bullshit. Also most relevant symbols are on the right pinky. I think there is room for a better layout. At least for a more comfy one.

You should try out some switches to see which ones feel good to you before anything. After that, try looking into filco, das, ducky and poker. Filco and das have some good full size keyboards, poker has a nice offering for a smaller form factor and ducky has led backlit keyboards that look great. You could probably get away with picking whichever one looks best out of those with your switch choice

Noppoo Choc Mini. Thinking of replacing it because it has some weird issue where keytrokes are multiplied, especially the 1 and n key. Mine, for example. Laptop is shit, though.
Reason is, I have more than enough space for a TKL keyboard like the Noppoo, but just not enough space for a full 100% keyboard and such a condensed one would fit just right.

The drevo 75% has the same lay out and blue switches and it appears that all the keys are standard. It's cheap as fuck though, my Noppoo was $100. Am I going to be missing out on something if I buy one? It seems to have all the features my Noppoo has.

Time to spend $200 on keycaps!

I'd be disgusted with myself if I didn't love the beige on beige with yellow highlights look.

- not everyone likes smooth switches. A little grittiness probably benefits most people's typing accuracy.

- 50 million my ass. These switches have not been through an exhaustive test of this nature. Sure, similar switches from Gateron/Otemu/RandomChineseFactory MAY have been, but these have definitely not. There is a reason high tactility Cherry switches like Clears only have a 20 million keystroke rating...AND if you're soldering them yourself by hand in some enthusiast backplate, there is no way you won't have chattering switches.

And why would you buy anything from Originative? Sherry has a history of being a swindler, these switches yet another example.

Using a quickfire TI right now, it's one of the best cheap keyboard out there. Would recommend

Cherry has an intentional texture on their stems. Gateron just copied the shape of Cherry and did not pay attention to the subtle engineering Cherry put into choosing this texture.

The community calls it a 96-key, most are also built with arrow keys between the shortened right shift and numpad but most have the option to assemble it like that.
>>
Just ran the gauntlet...why do people freak about it? it doesn't seem as bad as they say. only bad part is when the guy gets "cleaned up"
>>
>>60012349

Wow, sell that fast, it's ugly. How long before an imaginary elf language falls from the height of ultra-basement-dweller pop culture anyway?

My Masterkeys S arrived and these silver switches are an absolute gem to type on.

Coming from a Cherry clear. I might be converted to linears because of this. It's so light and nice.

If Cherry's texture is so well engineered, why are Cherry browns such hot garbage when Gateron browns are some of the best feeling switches?
>>
>>60016127
That's a lie, all browns are garbage.
>>
>>60016180
Mate, Gateron browns are fantastic. They're a lot more tactile than Cherry's. They're basically lighter Cherry MX clears, which is good.
>>
>>60016218
