You've clearly organised them for utility, so you can access programs quickly, which is a lot better than having a disorganised mess on your desktop. Personally though I would have text under the icons, as it makes them quicker to identify. Same goes for color over simply white. It's the difference between taking 1 second to find an icon verses 3 seconds, but I'd still do it. Each to their own though.

Not him, but labels are useful for when you have multiple windows open of the same program and want to quickly switch between them.

Also sometimes they're useful for showing information about what's in them, like the song in a media player, the number of emails received, etc. so you can know what you need just with a glance instead of opening the whole window.

When they get too numerous they contract anyway, so unless you have a fuckton of them, they're just going to occupy some otherwise empty space.

Partitions are just areas on a disk. You can have many of these areas, or just one (Windows creates two - system reserved).

I find them neater and when reinstalling windows, I have all my files already there.

Just note that once created, moving these partitions is a bitch. Ideally, you'll want to set them up how you want them after wiping the disk, or create a dynamic disk which adds a whole layer of complexity.

I used to be like this, but I tried switching back to non-stacking mode and found out it creates more of a mess and me spending too much time trying to find the folder I want to get to. Stacking mode it's all organized and you just click the icon and it all appears in a neat organized list where you find what you want quickly.

I use it a bit like a temp folder where I have easy access to files I plan to be modifying a lot over a short period of time. Saves me leaving an explorer window open or digging through loads of directories to access a file over and over again.

I also use it as a temporary directory for some downloads I plan to access immediately before either deleting or finding a proper home for them on one of my hard drives.

Unfortunately I clean it infrequently so it's full of random clutter.

Pinning the explorer shortcut is completely fine, mainly because you are often going to have explorer windows open and they will always be located at the same place on the taskbar, so you never have to look for it, you always know where it is.
