My SansaClip of five years didn't survive a bike crash today, and I noticed that SanDisk apparently discontinued them at some point. What's the portable music player of choice that I can get for around the same price and throw RockBox on?
>>
Just look for another on the cheap. The list of RB supported devices is pretty short.
>>
>>59912342
That's the thing, even second-hand ones at this point cost as much as three times what I got my old one for new.
>>
Fiio M3?

>and rockbox

dont know
>>
>>59912271
I'm so fucking mad the are no new sansas unles you are willing to pay $100 for a used to shit one.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

And there's no rockbox support for newer stuff like fiios.

REEEEEEEE
>>
>>59912271
Can't you just source a new oled panel or something and replace it?
I'm happy with my cheap chinky x-02
>>
>>59912271
Get an old android phone 2.3 I think and download the rockbox app, it works.
>>
>>59913453
>I'm happy with my cheap chinky x-02

I heard the ui is shit and sluggish?

Thoughts?

Does it support 128gb sc cards?
>>
>>59913453
This, you can get a Clip screen for like $7
>>
>>59913505

UI is shit but you get used to it. It's pretty good for the ~$12-20, used it as my primary music player for three months before I upgraded to a refurb Clip Zip ($70). The manufacturer refurbs from the happy merchants in Israel are actually pretty great, dunno if he's still selling his stock on ebay.

I can confirm the X02 works with 128GB microSD, just format to FAT32.

Ye but I usually don't need to interact with it since I usually listen a whole album, but ask on /CSG/ because they know how to flash the agptek firmware or something and it's supposed to be better or something
>Thoughts?
It was $13 on sale it does the job for how cheap it is
>Does it support 128gb sc cards?
Ask /CSG/ I'm using a 64 GB shark and it works, but seriously ask CSG rockbox is kind of obsolete and there's really good quality chink pmps, check the infographic on the op first

apple makes good hardware
overpriced. produced in chinese sweatshops. but still good
their audio is really good- especially on their phones

if you have an iphone, use that. it's better than any other pmp out there. it sounds better than most DACs
normally I don't advocate for giving up when it comes to privacy, but seriously, when it comes to phones it does not matter at all. inherently the system is flawed and nothing is safe. I'll shill for apple until they stop making good products

Yeah, and what about when a song that you don't feel like listening to comes on?
>besides name one PMP where i can download a podcast or an album on the spot
Why would I care about downloading albums on the fly when I already have every song I could possibly think of and more on my PMP?
>podcasts
I don't listen to them so I couldn't possibly care less about being able to download them. Even if I did, not having to use a touchscreen would most definitely be worth having to wait a few hours to download a podcast. Again, just because you're okay with it doesn't mean everyone is.

it's not an issue of allowing, but about all the recent PMPs not being proper devices to install rockbox on.

Help,

I disassembled an ipod video 5g to add msata and a larger capacity battery. When I reassembled it, there is a normal boot into the screen that asks to visit the support page.

When I connect via cord to restore (so I can flash rockbox) it starts bootlooping after a while. I have no clue what I did wrong or what the problem could be. It only happens upon connecting the sync cable. Running off battery leaves it normally operating.

Anyone familiar with modding the 5G able to provide tips?
>>
>>59922078
I'm going to share what I found out in case it interests anyone that will get stuck doing the same process in the future.

playing around with it I was able to get further in diagnosing the problem.

Whatever is causing the bootloop is the result of the msata to ssd adapter or the SSD itself

I can't reproduce the bootlooping using the original hard drive and new battery. DIsk mode and restore work properly.

I am starting to suspect the core of the problem to be whatever file format that is currently on the msata. I don't have an easy way to format it and was hoping that the cancer known as itunes would take care of everything on a restore so I can have a stable device to flash rockbox on.

If it's not file format that is the problem then its probably the adapter or ssd hardware that is beyond fixing.
