And im gonna drop mine in first.
Will a MicroATX motherboard fit over Mini ITX holes?
Biostar has a few of these boards that are 6.7" mini ITX but with two PCIe slots, giving it a bit of extra length. But its still 6.7" lengthwise.
They have an AM1 one im interested in and an LGA 1150 one too. Im thinking single slot gpu + pcie SSD in a mini itx case like a Cooler Master Elite 110.
In that case id go for Lga 1150 over AM1 due to pci lanes obviously.
>>
>>59886349
That's a mini-DTX board that you're talking about. Yes, it should fit into most 2 slot ITX cases.

The only problem is that you won't be able to use dual slot graphics cards unless if you enjoy getting bottlenecked by the 1x PCIe slot and not be able to use the 16x PCIe slot at all. Kinda negates the entire purpose.

I'm pretty stupid about mice. One of these things when you want to spend a lot of something good and not actually understanding how to utilize the GOOD and to configure everything to its full potential.
I don't move my mouse around on the table a lot. I expect the cursor to cross the screen's width by just turning my wrist, while keeping my arm stationary. So far, my settings are fine.
But I'm looking for a new mouse, and I don't know where to begin looking.
Borrowing from the world of drawing tablets:
1. Does higher DPS mean you can get more accuracy per tiny movement?
2. If I set it to move 1920 pixels in 3-4 centimeters, does it keep the original resolution for applications that require higher DPS (such as FPS games or drawing programs), or does it automatically redact the input's resolution across all programs and applications?

Assuming I'm really fond of Logitech's low-friction scrollwheel and mouse design, and knowing what I said above:
3. What mouse would you recommend to me?

>>59886940
>Does higher DPS mean you can get more accuracy per tiny movement?
No. Higher DPS just means higher precision. If the mouse is using cheap sensors you start to get jitter or glitches on the higher DPS options.
It's more ergonomic to use your whole arm compared to just your wrist.

yes they are part of the packet, when the packet reaches the router it deencapsulates the packet, reads the ip address, determines which interface to sent it out, re encapsulates the packet, then forwards it on

So does a packet contain headers for each of the protocols being used?

How did you guys cope up with lack of confidence when starting your first job in IT/software development?

I'm trying to apply for summer internships but my grades aren't top of the line (mostly Bs, although I do have a portfolio of software projects) and I study in a college instead of a university (university and colleges has a distinction here in Canada) so I lack the confidence in applying and thinking that I might be fit for a job. What are the key differences that would make it easier to, say, be more confident in web development compared to being more confident in desktop software development?

I've noticed that some people place tape over their laptop webcams for "reasons". Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but is this not entirely pointless? What institution actually wants to(and can) monitor people through their webcams, and moreover, how would they even efficiently handle/hide all of that network traffic?

Realistically speaking, if a live feed of video were to be taken through your laptop webcam, there would be some form of network traffic making an outbound connection to another host, correct? That would mean that this would be relatively easy to verify(beyond figuring out which services are being used). Not to mention, you could just uninstall the damn driver for the webcam if you're that concerned. Why place tape over a webcam? It's not providing any additional security.

At least on my old laptop, after formatting and freshly installing Windows there's no video drivers, no network drivers, etc. It would be stuck at 800x600 with no network capability (at least not Wi-Fi, I don't know about Ethernet). So just set my laptop to never sleep until I'm sure I've gotten everything I need off of it and have another PC I can use? What about restarting, would that be fine or is it basically the same as shutting it down and turning it back on really quickly?
>>
>>59892261
I was kind of joking but is not a bad idea.

8 sectors is nothing grave, i have used a HDD with 12 for 4 years now (42k hours already).
Worry when they increase, probably it never increase since it was damage from a fall while it was on.

You also want to set it to not turn off hard disks. Otherwise it'll stay awake but still spin down the disk when left idle. Restarting should be fine.

OK friends. I'm trying to fix an arch install that seemingly randomly stopped working. It fails to update man-db.cache on boot.
Anyway, I tried pacman -Syu to see if that changed anything. However.. "error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/local/gnome-settings-daemon-3.22.1-1"
This even happens with gnome UNINSTALLED. what the fuck.

Will a laptop stop charging if the tip of the charger gets too hot? I think that's what's happening to mine but I'm not positive. It's not like scalding hot but it's pretty warm whenever it disconnects on its own, but it doesn't seem to disconnect if it isn't noticeably warmer

why can't it just werk? ;_; sadly I'm sick as fuck of windows and want muh nice Linux again. last time I used debian.. that broke tho. I think it was gnome's fault that time as well
>>
>>59892566
The box feels fine though, it's just the tip that feels warmer. I just wasn't sure if there's some auto safety thing that tells it to stop charging if it gets too hot. It's a VAIO from like 2012. Sometimes it warms up in 10 minutes and it disconnects or sometimes it takes hours before it happens.

Just seeking some clarification here.

The network setup I'm on involves a router chained off another router (work-around for some unrelated wifi issues). So long as I forward the necessary port(s) on the child router to a computer connected to it, a device connected to the parent router should be able to directly access that machine by pointing to the child router's local IP and the forwarded port, yes?

experience: none, I know just a bit of syntax for some webdev languages

Q: What's a 'better' route - sheer Java or continuing with webdev? My main concern is the amount of technologies I need to remember and use at once with the latter, the road to becoming a Junior Java Dev seems (to me) much more straightforward, but at the same time I bet it's more difficult to get into Java than any webdev language I would want to learn (JS/Ruby on Rails).

maybe there's something else still using the old path, you could run

Roughly a year ago my laptop was running hot.
I cleaned it and on idle it was sitting at 30C which sounds normal for a laptop. I then had an idea of getting my desk fan to blow air inside the case using the openings in the back (the ones used for the heat sink). I managed to get that 30C to 17C. But then a few months after that the 17C turned to 20C and a few more to 25C.

My question is, does blowing air inside a laptop damage it? Does it dry out the thermal paste quicker? Right now the temperature is still at normal levels but I'm worried that the temperature will just keep on increasing. I clean it at least 3 times a week already. The only thing I haven't done is replacing the thermal paste; you have to disassemble the laptop to apply it and I'm too scared to try.

Should I stop blowing air inside using my fan?

>Dude there is no need to worry if you laptop doesn't exceed 45-50C on idle.
That's the thing, I'm worried that it will go pass that.

And this laptop is pretty old, almost 9 years. I haven't replaced the thermal paste once.
>>
>>59897091
I checked. It hold up to 16gb and with the new and old sticks its 12gb
>>
Could someone post one of the /g/ programming challenges roulette?
>>
>>59897132
Then do it. It is probably rock-hard by now.
>>
>>59897075
Blowing air through it may be damaging the fans. The bearings in the fans could also just be getting old and wearing out. You should stop doing it if only because it doesn't serve any purpose. You computer won't run any better at 17C than 30C. The chips are designed to handle it and thermal throttling won't kick in till around ~80C.
>>
>>59897144
The fan doesn't turn on until the temperature reaches 45C so it's been off all the time. The only time it would turn on is when I check if it's working by forcing my laptop to increase the temperature (usually by running a game).

>>59897141
Damn, okay. I guess I'll look at some youtube videos on how to disassemble my laptop to apply it.
>>
>>59897168
How are you cleaning it every 3 weeks without taking it apart?
>>
>>59897135
Huh. Are you testing with new RAM isolated? What about just booting with 3 sticks (with the highest GB stick out)?

I had a system with a 512-512-1-1 config and it would fail tests if all 4 were in, but none of the sticks were bad.
>>
>>59897183
Compressed air can with those long nozzle thing. I'd direct it at the holes in the bottom like the holes for the fan etc.
>>
>>59897206
Ah, so you are basically blowing all dust back into the laptop.
Some will go out, but most will just get deeper inside.
>>
>>59897193
Absolutely. Whenever one of the new 4gb sticks are in, the pc just starts and restarts after 10 secs
>>
>>59897217
Well, shit.
Okay thanks.

One more thing, I haven't bought thermal paste before, does it matter what brand I use or something or are they all the same? What brands should I avoid? I'd like to get the cheapest one.
>>
>>59897233
You might have gotten a bad batch. I'd return them. If you really wanted to you could test them in a buddy's machine, but that's my suspicion
>>
>>59897243
Buy Noctua NT-H1.
Clean old thermal paste off using some alcohol (isopropyl is the best). I usually use cotton buds and toilet paper for this job.
Apply new thermal paste. Spread very thin equal layer over the processor, just thin enough to cover it. If you apply too much, the paste will be acting as an isolator, not conductor.
>>
>>59897305
Thanks.

And I just checked again. Idle temperature is now at 30C with a desk fan blowing air inside. If I turn it off temp is 40C.
>>
>>59897342
That is absolutely nothing to worry about.
Just open up the laptop, give it a proper cleaning from all the dust you forced inside, and replace the thermal paste. You probably won't have to touch it for another 2-3 years.

What's the quick and dirty way to get your own website?

All I have right now is a name that's wide open and I want to know how to register it as my own.

Which registrar do I use? Do different registrars have their own internal avialabilities? (I don't think that's how it works but I could see it being a possibility)

I can worry about the actual design of it later.
>>
I have the stupidest of all questions so that means this thread is basically dedicated to me now.

I bought an iPad Pro for $400 off some dude on craigslist. Its in perfect condition except it has an icloud activation lock on it.

Is my best bet to spend another $200 on the logic chip/repair tools and just replace that to fix the problem?

Is that the ONLY solution if I want to bypass iCloud activation lock or are there any others?

Looks like you are asking how to get your own domain.
Go to https://www.namecheap.com or something similar, look for whatever name you like, and buy it for whatever period you desire.
You can buy it from pretty much anywhere, but please fucking avoid godaddy.
Sorry, looks like imafaggot.com is already taken.

give it back Tyrone

No. I'm the white guy who just gave Tyrone $400.

I bought it from a couple black boys lol.

Handling stolen goods is a crime.
Return it to your local police station and they should find the owner.
>>
>>59897462
hey nobody said anything about stolen anything.

Somebody obviously forgot to take off 2 factor authentication ;)

>>59897407
What's wrong with godaddy? They seem to have some of the best features.
>>
>>59897519
shit support. Seriously it is worth paying few $£€ more and get it off namecheap
>>
>>59897534
Alright. I'll use namecheap, then. Is it true that these things log the searches and jack the rates up if they're searched frequently but not purchased?
>>
>>59897559
no idea, but it might be possible.

Best C compiler/IDE for windows?
Best python compiler/IDE for windows?

I had debian on my old computer, and used gcc and anaconda, respectively, but I bought a new gayman computer and am currently using windows, I don't plan on dual booting, so that's why I'm asking.

Any way to have VLC save my place in a internet podcast playlist? Best I could find was a "resume position" plugin that barely works. Alternatively, any other media players that do podcasts via RSS better?

Mingw; notepad++
>Best python compiler/IDE for windows?
... Python didn't need a compiler, just installed; See above
>>
>>59897817
Oh, I just copied my line, I didn't mean the part about the python compiler. I remember that using Python on windows was really fucking bad, is it viable to use it without an IDE?

Also, I use atom instead of n++.

I have Windows 10 on a Lenovo laptop and it had been working perfect until I got caught in the automatic repair loop and it forced me to do a complete reset of everything on my laptop (I keep all my files on a flash drive so no biggie) but now my laptop runs like a piece of shit
>cant close windows
>cant exit pages
>long running script errors
I've run multiple scans for viruses and corrupt files but they keep telling me everything is fine
What's wrong?
I'll be surprised if I'm actually able to post this
Need to write an essay on an NP-complete problem related to market economy, google's come up with nothing. Only asking for the name of any such problem. Anyone here know if something like that?

Been looking for a while, but I can't find any NP-complete problem that has something to do with market economy. Again, I'm only asking for the name of a problem, or anything I could use as a starting point for searching, really.
