I've just finished copying over a bunch of movies to a backup drive using rsync -a. If I rerun this command it starts all over. If I do rsync -au it works as expected.

Yes, as soon as I plug the AC adapter to the power-in socket, the tray opens on its own, I tried closing it pressing the button but it just opens again right after. It doesn't load anything, the led doesn't even light up before opening again whether I put a disc in the tray or not.

They tested Ryzen using Windows 7 initially, so yes.
Pirated W7 can easily get updates, but you still have to deal with the clusterfuck of downloading a new version of the updater since the old one was purposely broken by Microsoft, search for this issue and you'll see a ton of results. I turned off updates on mine after installing so this isn't a problem.

The easy no brainer way is to reinstall your OS. A simpler way is sticking the Install CD/USB in and repairing using startup repair option in recovery. The harder way which involves rubbing two brain cells together is using command prompt.

I need a case fan so I went with a Noctua NF-P14s (square model). Ordered it on Amazon. Recieved the wrong fan model, the NF-P14r (round model). I told Amazon and they resent the "correct" fan but it was again the wrong fan, the -r version.

Now that I can't trust Amazon to do anything right, what case fan should I get? I really liked the NF-P14s so maybe something like that?

Around $20 & 80 CFM, 120mm.

This is driving me insane.
Since the creator update I have been getting this error constantly and I don't know how to get rid of it, already googled different fixes but none work.

It mostly happens when reviewing security or details tab on any file, foobar and other programs won't open anymore, and I can't change the DEP configuration.

USB audio interface
Look for one with a 1/4" jack or use a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter
>>
>>59878854
Because they are built differently so even though the result is the same from both, they get there differently.
>>
>>59879721
The 1/4" jack is analog; the signals it carries are based on the properties of the electricity running through it. USB is digital; the signals it carries are strictly based on patters of on/off (1 and 0).

You can't just have a simple set of plugs between them. You need to consider what you want to do and buy a device which does that thing. For example, try something called a DAC (digital-analog converter) with a 1/4" jack.
>>
>>59879772
> a DAC (digital-analog converter) with a 1/4" jack.

At work we receive like 200 documents in the mail a day. An employee scans them in, looks up which client they're for, renames the file, then looks up the client's file folder through our client database and moves the document there and places it in the appropriate subfolder.

How difficult would it be to automate this with Python (assuming I know very little Python and have never automated anything before)?

I think the basic idea would be to write a program on a timer (checks it like once an hour) and looks in the directory where she scans and renames files. If she started putting client numbers in the file names, the program should be able to access the database, lookup the client's directory path, and update the file's location to the correct client location, and should be able to rename the file and remove the client ID number as well.

Seems simple enough, but again I haven't done this before, maybe I'm way off base? Does this seem plausible, and something I can hobby together in maybe 20 hours or less?

I have an old desktop that does not have a wifi adapter. But my laptop does. I'm trying to use a setup like this:

[router] <---wireless---> [laptop] <---ethernet cable---> [desktop]

According to everyone on the internets this is 100% possible by following these simple instructions:
>Connect the Ethernet crossover cable to both computers.
>Go to Network Connections Control Panel on computer with Internet access.
>Right click on the network connection that has Internet access
>Select the sharing tab
>Check the box that says "Allow other network users . . . ." Then click ok to close.
>Open your browser on the computer without wireless access and give it some time to connect.

After following these instructions I still can't connect to any websites on my browser, even though it says I have internet in pic related.

What do you use for CPU stress testing? I get dramatically different results depending on the program. I hear prime95 isn't really used anymore because of how it stresses the FPU. I'm trying out OCCT linpack which has the option to disable AVX. OCCT linpack without AVX gives me temps like 20C lower than prime95 with small FFTs.

Right now I've been running OCCT linpack without AVX for about a half hour and temps are maxed at 56C. It seems like there should be a middle ground somewhere between this and the ridiculously high temps with prime95.

>>
>>59883976
are they able to check that? and also use that against me? their website makes no mention of TBW for the 840 evo and older products

Also i can't say what the TBW was on the drive, but I did see that SMART data was all green for all of my drives earlier in the day... incidental, but idk if that's something that would be flagged by speccy or hwmonitor..
>>
>>59884048
I don't think HDR gets used much for animation, but that may at some point. It's hard to say how much it's going to take off, but there's already some HDR on Netflix and some PS4 games. You'll probably be happy with any 1080 from a decent brand
>>
>>59884082
Yes, also samsung TBW is really low so they fuck up a lot of people when it comes to warranty with this.
For example 1TB 840 is 75TBW.
Same for 850 EVO series but since they use 3D NAND dont expect it to faill fast like the 840.
See ADATA SU800 with 400TBW.

Speccy SMART info will always tell you "OK" unless specs are really fucked.
>>
>>59884075
How important is it to get backlit vs a edgelit? I've heard backlit looks a lot better, but I'm having a hard time even finding the specs talking about the type of lighting.
>>
>>59884132
I see.

just for reference, how many TBW does your SSD(s) show? I've tried finding typical use case but ppl are saying 7 TBW/year etc.
>>
>>59884177
Its how much Terabytes you have wrote on it.
I only use about 40TB per year but i use my PC 14 hours a day everyday.

Casual use (Browsing, using your PC normally, games) wont write a lot so expect it to be low, could be anywhere between 5 and 10TB per year so its kind of exact.
>>
>>59884204
So basically a lot of writes wont kill your drive, but if it happens to die for some reason, samsung has an excuse to not cover it?
>>
>>59884229
This is why you should be suspicious of anything that has a long warranty. There's fine print that will fuck you up sideways.
You shouldn't have ever bought Samsung EVO. Pro is ok, but EVO? No.
>>
>>59884229
Pretty much.
The best part, is that they hidden well the rated TBW of the 840 EVO's, i cant find info about them other than the 1TB version.

All early SSDs have problems, specially the 2D NAND SSDs, only those who used MLC and 3D NAND work and will work without problems.

>>
>>59884286

A passthrough to get Windows to run well? I can run KDE just fine with no passthrough. Windows can't be that much heavier than that can it? I have Aero disabled on W7..
>>

>Windows can't be that much heavier than that can it?
Oh. Oh boy.
>>
>>59884316
It's well known that aside from Embedded or POS ready windows windows is heavy. Do yourself a favor and passthrough your dedicated GPU to the VM, stick with the iGPU for the host OS.
And don't disable aero for win7. Leads to screen tearing.

Programmer or Sysadmin? Which job is comfier? Why?

Thanks in advance
>>
>>59881819
Depends on the programs. Most common programs don't bother because the devs can't into multithreading without race conditions. Some programs benefit heavily from it. Of course, the programs which would benefit the most, like video renderers, usually can be rendered from the GPU cores instead of CPU. At the very least, it won't bottleneck you, and assuming you have the RAM, you can run more tasks in parallel.
>>
>>59884524
Sysadmin, you tinker with hardware and software while dealing with frustrating clients that don't know how to describe what they want, so you build an impromptu translator in the back of your head for clientspeak. Also you won't be looked down upon as a code monkey.
>>
>>59884524

If you have a true database, check what it is and see if python has bindings for it. If it does, then the task should be super simple. You might look into reading "Automate the Boring Stuff with Python", especially if you're new to it.

>>
>>59885597
You might get better performance with RAID0. If you have backups, you don't have to worry about losing all data when one drive fails.
But JBOD works fine.
>>
>>59885634
Right click, save, open with torrent client.
>>
>>59885640
I figure RAID0 is better performance but JBOD allows for drives from different manufacturers and even different sizes if I'm not wrong.
I was just about to buy x2 4TB WD reds and I realized I'm not running a business, it doesn't matter if drive failure causes down time while I restore off USB.

Also wondering if JBOD would be better for power usage, does only the disk being accessed spin up?
>>
>>59885660
>JBOD allows for drives from different manufacturers and even different sizes if I'm not wrong.
Yes. It also has the advantage that you can easily add or remove drives.
> it doesn't matter if drive failure causes down time while I restore off USB.
It will cause downtime either way, with JBOD and RAID0. You would need a RAID level > 0 for redundancy.
>Also wondering if JBOD would be better for power usage, does only the disk being accessed spin up?
I guess it depends on the implementation, but I wouldn't expect that.
>>
>>59885692
>t will cause downtime either way, with JBOD and RAID0. You would need a RAID level > 0 for redundancy.
yeah I meant other RAID levels, not 0.
As I see it I'm going to have my movie server down for a time if I have to buy a replacement drive anyway.

Thanks for your help, I kind of came into the thread wanting affirmation to make sure I wasn't going full retard by using JBOD.

When something has a number of bits to represent stuff with, does it not take into account 2^0?

So if you have 8 bits, you can represent 2^8 = 256 values. But in binary, the rightmost bit is usually 2^0 = 1.

Am I just thinking of it wrong?
