I'm considering to buy a new external hard drive soon. Has to be usb3 and at least 1T capacity.
Is this one reliable?

Just get pic related?
>>59716204
Oh, you are getting pic related.
Had mine for year it's a drive, no lag.
It doesn't really matter. All of them may die at any moment.

This one is fine, but better buy an external case and put your prefer HD instead.
Because you can retrieve the drive if usb controller fail.
You don't measure storage in tons OP
I've got a Seagate 4tb hdd on the way right now. But currently I use a Toshiba 1tb one and its not too bad. I pretty much just use it to hold my basic shit like movies, music, and tv shows. Didn't think 1tb would fill up so quickly

Just like any of us.

Fun Fact: You can also die at any moment

God I can only hope

Stop making this thread every day you nerd. Just splurge on a rugged Lacie so when your fat ass sits on it, there might be a chance it doesn't break.

I prefer to buy and internal drive and put it in an enclosure.
>>59718827
This is probably a retarded question, but why are external hard drives more prone to failure then internal ones? Or are they more prone?
>>59721210
Didn't mean to reply, sorry.
I mostly get seagates because i always go for bus-powered drives, and the WD bus powered drives(and possible the 3.5" ones too?) have the USB interface soldered onto the drive.... which means they're limited in where you can put them.
i have a 2tb one on one TV box, and a 4tb on another TV box. Zero issues with either.
>>59721210
They are identical to "internal" drives.
But the small non-ventilated enclosure can cause overheating.
They also tend to put the cheapest drives available inside, although that does not necessarily mean less reliable.
>>59721284
They might be lower bins, but i think its more to do with how USB power is far less consistent than a direct connection to a PSU/Mobo. USB cuts power without warning on some PC's on shut down. Or people just yank the cable out without safly removing the drive.
Plus by nature of being portable, they get a lot more wear and tear from being moved around. This is also probably why the warranties are less forgiving. Most internal drives are 3 years. Most external are 1.
