HD598 if you want a flatter signature, X2 if you like bass. I think SHP9500 is better than both and conveniently it's the cheapest. If you can afford it consider HD600 which is better than all three.

But if you like bass get the X2. I've owned all four of these headphones.

First are some Alessandro Music Pros (variants of the Grado RS1s)

Second is the Shure SE846s.

They aren't placebo....but you need to have gratuitous disposable income for both. If you don't, grab some of their lower level companions which are also good in their own rights and are much more cost effective. Buying used always helps.

Mids suck ass on X2 especially in comparison to HD600. Going by Tyll's memes you may want to try out HE400S for dat planar bass while still retaining coherent and present mids. They build like shit tho.
>>
>>59694347
Understanding the compensation used and the possible leakage occurred, that looks completely normal roll off for a open baffle dynamic with 100 Hz driver resonance.
>>
>>59694347
I thought you were memeing about driver match. Anyway, you can boost bass through EQ or get HD650, at the same time HD6xx have best mids out of trio and that's where most of the music is at and the reason so many people chose them.
>>
>>59694431
>HD6xx have best mids out of trio
It's identical to HD 650 of the same era.

Poorfags fuck off.

I'm looking at summit-fi headphones and I've narrowed it down to a couple choices.

>Focal Utopia
>Audeze LCD-4
>Stax SR-009
>Ether C Flow
>Abyss

I like the look of the Stax, but don't like fact that they need a separate box so I can't wear them outside to flex on all them pleb niggas.

I will purchase one of these in a couple of months, and give pics and impressions. I'm not yet wealthy enough to purchase an Orpheus, but I may in the next couple of years.

Looking for impressions for any of these.
>>
>>59694431
Aren't HD 6XXs just HD 650s with a different name?
>>
>>59694452
Always the first question, why these headphones? They are all over the place. Only uniting feature is the high price.
>>
>>59694442
>>59694454
By 6xx I meant all 6-- series including 600 and 650/6xx altho I prefer female vocals on HD600.

>>59694413

Actually, without taking measured driver response discrepancy all of the trio start around 15 db.
>>
>>59694226
Impedance vs freq curve is funky, so it needs an amp to sound right.
>>
>>59694480
Because I'm done with mid-fi hell. I'm gonna buy a pair and fuck off from headphones until they break. I read the graphs and they all look like sound signatures that I would enjoy. Now I'm just looking for impressions from real people.

>>

you obviously dont understand it yourself. 20 hz is down by 11 db relative to 1 khz regardless of it being compensated or raw.

Are IEMs allowed in hpg?

I have a set of Shure SE-215s. I like them, but the piece I'm pointing to in pic related is fraying. I'm holding it together with tape and it's unseemly.

I've also used the EPH-100 and liked them as well.

So I guess my question is, for about $150, what should I do? Buy another set of SE-215s or branch out to something different? What other IEMs are good in that price range?

Just because some people have an OCD to bend a headband doesn't mean that there is something wrong with a headphone build. On the other hand human ears are not circularly shaped, HD600 was made to actually fit human ears. HD600 line has best mids out of all open backs in that price range and that what matters the most, you don't see people requesting other open backs on massdrop anywhere near HD6xx.
>>
>>59694601
Why don't you just replace the cable?

>>59694558
>2. Good sound
Personally I'd drop every single headphone off of that list then but I'm not you nor am I a psychic so I can't know what made you pick these five. They aren't alike.

>Utopia
Mid centric and overall warm tone, overly so in my opinion. Quite balanced sounding regardless and nice build quality. Better than Elear. Comfortable and sensitive, no need for amplifiers.
>LCD4
Worse version of their lower end open back LCD products for a higher price. Dark sounding, kind of like Utopia but with less midbass. Heavy, insensitive.
>SR-009
Same Stax house sound for much higher price tag. Very nice build. Mid forward, little tricky to seal right. You'll need some electrostatic amplifier, of course.
>Ether C Flow
The only closed back one you listed. Flow doesn't see to do anything better than the standard Ether and looks to perform worse some aspects. Haven't tried it and frankly I'm not very interested to either. It's sensitive, isolates some but the open back model for Ether Flow and Ether seem like a better choice all around.
>Abyss
Totally lackluster unless something has changed. Overly dark to the point of being muffled, heavy and ridiculously big. It's pretty low sensitivity too.

People had them for years and years without issues, it's an old pair of headphones. I dropped them few times and nothing happened and thats pretty much enough for any sensible person.

>>59694746
Once again if you look at Tyll's measures ignoring measured chanel imbalance that appears on some measures while not on others, all of the trio starts around 15 db. As for treble, it's well extended and detailed enough without getting into your face. Different people have different sound preferences so this discussion is mildly pointless, but most of music happens in the midrange and that's how it is.

Bass boost compensation lowers the amplitude below the elevated midbass a little more compared to other measurements posted in that pic.
>yeah, since it's averaged, the possible drop off from leakage effects should be even worse.
If rtings.com has a summarized average there, the plot we see here is somewhere between good seal and bad. It isn't far off from the usual so I'm going to guess no leakage to mind of.

Caution, equalizer and as much knowledge as you are willing to put effort into researching. I hate thinking in upgrades because it generally doesn't work. Maybe Ether.

What about H800? For many people it's the end after EQ and some modding to filter out 6k peak.
>>
>>59694978
>What about H800?
That was my pick, nothing like HD 600. If we take the equalization into play the stock FR loses most of its meaning. You can do whatever. To me the 6 KHz peak is troublesome due to the lack of gain around 1-5 KHz before it. Some sub bass lift was helpful too.

What're the best open headphones that I can buy for a moderate price? I wanna get a decent pair that I can use as a daily driver to listen to a variety of genres. I'm looking at the Sennheiser 600s currently and waiting for a massdrop sale. Thoughts/opinions?

I don't think it will be on Massdrop, they've already got the HD6XX which is based on the HD650 which is equally as good, just not as neutral, and that's a plus for many.

Anyway, HD600 is a really good choice for a variety of genres.

I use the HD 650 as my daily driver. I highly recommend them, though some people will prefer the HD 600, but there isn't a big difference between the two. They're $316 on Amazon right now, which is a great price for them. They were listed for $375 for a long time. The lowest they've been all this year was $300, and that was only for a Lightning Deal.

I'm finally understanding why I was recommended the R70X.

It's a difficult realisation. There is no "perfect headphone". This one has limitations, it's initially not comfortable but over a long time it's very comfortable.

It is dark in the high treble. It lacks sub-bass performance.

It's so open that it won't even isolate the sounds from around.

The sound stage is tiny, compared to the spacious AKG 712... making it not a great fit for gaming. Or so I thought.

Yet it shines in general music listening.
It shines in wearing it over a long duration (6 hours or more).
It's compact and lightweight and won't feel like its even on. The complete lack of sound isolation is unique and new, it's like you have speakers. The moment you mute the output, you can hear what people say without needing to take them off at all. Game performance while not ideal, will be headache free due to both comfort and the more muted highs.

R70X is a really interesting headphone. The construction is solid as fuck, I still feel the need to get a HD600 as a comparision some time in the future but this headphone keeps dragging me back in even though it doesn't shine in any specific area. What the hell?

DT770 -> best closed headphones I've encountered so far
K612 Pro -> believe it or not, these actually sound better than the Q/K701/702
HD558 -> this is probably the best one because you can remove the cable, which is the biggest flaw of the other two
Fidelio X1 -> this one is great, but significantly more expensive than the other ones, I don't think it's being sold anymore either.

DT880 -> Overpriced
HD598 -> overpriced HD558
DT990 -> V-shaped horseshit
Q/K701/702 -> Overpriced and bright horseshit, the only thing these have going for them over the K612 is the detachable cable.

Honestly not going to mention any headphones I haven't personally heard.

Thoughts on the Monolith M1060?

Currently have HD600s but the left driver is quiter and has been like that for months so it doesn't hugely bother me. Instead of replacing the driver I'm thinking of getting something new, I heard the M1060s are extremely similar to the LCD2s and LCDX, But for only 299.99$. My music taste since i've bought the HD600s has also changed, I like kanye style rap instead of the rock/metal I listened to before so better bass is something i'd like.

I've heard the LCD X at a hifi show and absolutely loved them, more so than the HD800 S and LCD 3.

Good buy? I'm assuming the 2nd batch will fix the qc issues. They look fucking sexy as hell too.
>>
>>59704067
Do it.
>>
>>59703328
Sound wise HD 600 is more neutral, HD 650 is warmer. The difference is not big. They have different color scheme and HD 650 uses a thicker, slightly higher quality cable. I'm not entirely sure but only HD 650 used to come with a nice little adapter cable dongle from 6,35mm to 3,5mm. Headband padding is slightly different. The parts are interchangeable.

If I remember right, it would only be roughly that efficient at the top of the output curve.

Trying to decide between PXC 550 and QC 35

the noise cancelling is good but not critical, I choose these mostly because they are amazingly comfortable for long periods when doing work in places around campus

It's just confusing seeing which has a better sound signature, I see reports for both are good on mid and bass (neutral, wouldn't be here if I just wanted some Bass shit) but then the QC 35 somehow outclasses PXC 550 in treble

Extremely warm cans, expected more from Sennheiser claiming they had pioneered clarity in mobile-stylish cans

>Treble: Poor performance. There are two issues here: First, the dip in the 3KHz-7Khz range, which will negatively affect the clarity, intelligibility and brightness of the vocals/leads/cymbals. Second, the slight bump at 8KHz and above, which could make the sound of these headphones a little sibilant.

I'm sure there's more options that sound okay that I can't think of that another anon can add on to this list.

|joker|'s reviews?
Music One is a bit questionable. Etys tend to fill that niche better, and there are other models, even custom molded sets in that line.
I don't know the the other ones.
>What inject kit did you use?
As it happened, I didn't do it. The models were not what I would have liked them to be, so I put the home molds on hold indefinitely.

Damn, no wonder you think it's overpriced, in the US Amazon it costs 195$.

I commute to/from work everyday, and I have no nice words for all the headphone wearing, distracted playing with their iphone trash I have to deal with during said commute.

just lol

I know for a fact that there are wired headphones that sound better than earpods for under $20, let alone under $50.
I'd imagine some of the ones I'm finding with Bluetooth would sound about on par with them.
>>
>>59710248
Off by far :P

>on the bus
If you weren't full retard, you'd have noticed I couldn't be talking about riding the bus, as I mentioned being annoyed by "distracted people".

Fit, commuting by feet to systems engineer job in finance. Somewhere that has no wallmarts, nor uses lbs as unit for mass, moron.

Oh, so you live close to the shitskinmart. That explains why you haven't lost any weight, Mr "excuse me I'm 35 stone, not 500lbs"

DIY is life. Best amp's are DIY: Crack, Starving student, and Dynalo.

Just go to an audiologist. No chance of stuffing up the impressions or your ears. It cost like $70 AUD for me. I sent them away and Piotr is making my Custom Art Ei.3's right now.

lol.

(still same guy, but that was funny somehow)

Will I NEED an amp with the Monolith M1060? Plan on picking them up, and I won't have an amp right away.

I don't have much experience with headphones, but I was wondering what your guys opinion was on the hyperx cloud 2s.
I picked them up from best buy last weekend because I wanted headphones that day and this was about all they had.
I know they're gamery and the usb sound card sucks. I have it plugged in with the 3.5mm jack right now and it sounds decent.
>>
>>59712004
Idk, i bought the cloud 1's just to have something with a mic. The sound is as if someone laid a blanket over the drives; i.e. not the best. However it's fine for gaming (considering the price).
Not sure if there's any difference in sound between the 1 and 2 versions.
>>
>>59712034
I don't think theres a huge difference between the two. I kind of had that impression with these though at first. Using my motherboard's audio instead of the usb sound card seemed to clarify the audio a bit and warm it up.
I can't use the mic anymore, but I already have a separate one on my desk.

>>

In your ear

>>59713073

Thanks for the suggestion, but it looks like something hard to snag without waiting forever
>>
>>59713093
I've heard a lot of good things about the soundmagic e10's, you look into that. And if you want something with more bass you could try and snag a pair of Sony mdrxb50ap's for like $8 on ebay, they have very recessed treble though, but I think they're great for the $8 I got them for.
>>
>>59692353
For under $50 and with Bluetooth, how would the Creative Sound Blaster Jam, Photive BTH3, or the Skullcandy Uproar be for casual listening and a cheap throw-around headphone?
>>
>>59713425
shit, shit, and shit
>>
>>59713073
Dont fall for the VE Monks meme. Rock Zircons are superior, but I think they changed production and made it shit to save money.
>>
>>59713472
I'd imagine, but compared to something like standard Earpods?
I'd imagine at least one of those would be better than Earpods at the very least.
>>
What is a good AMP + DAC that I could buy now so I can later replace my current cans with HD800S?

NFB-11, unless you want tubes, or something for the balanced cable meme the 800S comes with
