I respect GPD for keeping UMPCs alive, but for the life of me I can't find a reason I'd ever use one. The screen is way too tiny to do any sort of major work. At least the WIN has a gamepad which lets you use it as a console too.

I love the look of this but I just have no use for it, especially at a $600 price tag. For that price I could buy a used Surface.

You can get quite a lot out of a 1.6ghz quad core z8700 atom. Sure nothing AAA is going to work well on it, but its still pretty capable.

I got a GPD Win with a 128gb Samsung fit full of indie games plugged into it all the time, and emulation shit on the 128gb microSD card

It works good with Steam in-house streaming. Max performance I got with it on a 100mbps 5ghz wireless connection is 1ms input and about 20ms display lag.
About the same as a regular LCD tv.

The issue atoms have is the weak GPU, (I'll give you that) and the Turbo which is pretty useless and unstable. Disable the damn turbo and it runs great. You can leave it on medium fan pretty much always.
People that have software issues with their Wins usually dont setup Windows 10 right. Windows 10 is not optimised for low spec devices at all. Anti-virus is ironically a massive performance killer alone. I got a huge list of directory exceptions to stop the constant scanning.

Its taken me a damn lot of tinkering and research to get it working so well.

Of course an M3 is much better, thats a given, but it costs quite a bit more and you would still have to underclock that too to stop it from being a massive heat and energy sink and its not going to improve much on the low end. Just give you more medium level options.

Linux has literally the same drivers for nvidia, intel is iffy but this particular machine has fine drivers for linux. AMD doesn't have good drivers anywhere.

Wine has DX10 support now, yes things occasionally run a couple FPS slower but old things very commonly don't run at all on modern Windows. It's a trade off but the pocket is clearly not aiming for the AAA shitfest and there's only like 5 games that use DX11+

The Win? I know it was a problem with the early units, but I have a Rev2, even with demanding games in a warm room it stays in the low to mid 60's (Celsius). The active cooling keeps the case itself cool to hold too.
