And if you DO find the unicorn watch autist woman, then the answer is you get her a vintage Grand Seiko VFA 1984-3000. The most accurate mechanical women's watch ever made. Ever. The only women's 36,000 bph movement ever made.

You can still get these for a decent price since the demand for ladies models is so low.

- better quality case

Any good guide on how to reprint a dial? Some bozo ruined the dial of the Soviet Amphibia I got by treating it with some kind of disgusting sticky lacquer that had all the debris and shit stuck in it. The only way I could remove it is to melt the dial print and the white paint on the indices off along with it. All that's left is the lume dots and the otherwise good-looking blue sunburst base color.

I COULD get another 18 jewels dial for it for cheap, but there's no challenge in that, so I'll try to reprint it first. Any ideas how?

the only sinn I intend to buy is the 104 and that is because I feel like it is the ideally designed tool watch with sapphire, water resistance, day date, countdown bezel. And I am fond of its aesthetic

Absolutely, and some /wt/-tard will interpret this as "all watches produced by a brand that has made or is remotely connected to a shitter is a shitter brand"

Then they make the ETA connection to Lemania, and the Lemania connection to Patek, and conclude that Patek is an ETA shitter brand...

Because it's awkwardly small, the dial is kind of ugly, and the movement is unimpressive even after swallowing its lack of hacking and handwinding. The SNK series is very poor against magnetic fields, rarely adjusted well enough for even recreational aviation purposes, and too small to read in flight deck conditions. In other words, it is even less suited to the actual task of piloting a vehicle than the worst uncertified "diver style" 3-bar WR shitter is suited to the task of diving.

Also, the blue dial version is better.

>>59647936
>Things got even better in 1966, with 32 movements qualifying and the best placing ninth. Daini Seikosha rose to third place in the manufacturer rankings. In 1967, the best movement, a cal. 052, from Seiko took fourth place, out of a 62 movements which qualified as chronometers. The first placed manufacturer that year was Omega, followed by Daini Seikosha and Suwa Seikosha.

>Seiko never managed to do any better, for in 1968 theNeuchâtelObservatory cancelled its chronometer contests for good – 1967 was the last year it ran the contest. Seiko instead headed to Geneva for theConcours de Genèveorganised by the Observatory of Geneva.

>In Geneva Seiko proceeded to take fourth to tenth place in the wristwatch movement category, with first to third place occupied by the quartz Beta 21 movement fromCentre Electronique Horloger, an enterprise backed by the Swiss watch industry. That meant that the Seiko movements were the top finishers in the mechanical movement category.

>After Seiko’s victories in 1968, the Geneva observatory thencancelled its contests in 1968, ending the long tradition of Swiss observatory timing trials.

>>
>>59648176
Yes, that's why the canceled Neuchatel the year before and why the current rules for the chronometer trials specify that all parts must be made in Europe. Because of quartz.

Also unrelated is that Seiko is one of two watchmakers to ever win a historical Chronometer trial with a production model and one of only two to ever have production examples produced in series certified as Astronomical Observatory Chronometers, which were then sold to the public.

Also the only pre-quartz watchmaker to offer a +/- 2s/d accuracy standard.

>There were quartz watches in the trials, look up the beta21 m8 (it's in that very post even). It's not because of quartz that they were halted.

Yeah bro it has nothing to do with quartz. It's because gooks did good in a couple of competitions in the late sixties (which by total coincidence is when quartz watches started entering trials and Rolex rolled out a series of patents for quartz movements) so a few hundred companies/independent watchmakers all threw up their hands and went WE HAVE TO CANCEL EVERYTHING!!!1! because, you know, it's not like they can just make new designs or try harder or anything for future competitions.

Yep, this is what happened.
>>
>>59648437
The swiss were working together to make quartz movements, and said quartz movements were put in the trials. They had a separate category from mechanical movements. The beta21 is called what it is because it was a cooperative effort between 21 swiss makers. I'm not sure how else to explain how retarded the idea that it was cancelled due to quartz movements is.

Dunno. I bought mine off Ebay in 2009. Still have it to this day and it's still going strong. It was apparently available only in the asian market. Had to have the titanium and sapphire on that platform for the "ultimate" watch.

If a watch costs 50 dollarydoos it's a probably a piece of shit. At that price range anything that isn't a seiko, timex, casio or vostok is a piece of shit

Even all of the brands I stated are pieces of shit at that range

Lorus is apparently just the bargain basement arm of Seiko. You should probably get something that Seiko's actually willing to put their name on.

We sell Lorus in our jewery store. It's gonna be all-steel with a Seiko quartz movement, but they're bigger, uglier and cheaper looking than the Casio MTP line, even if those are mostly plated cases.

It's weird, the other language is Chinese for some reason and it seems they write day of the week in a similar way:
星期一
星期二
星期三
星期四
星期五
星期六

>>
>>59650987

That makes a bit more sense. I have no problem with quartz watches; I recognize the craftsmanship that goes into an automatic, but if losing 20 seconds a week is normal, and I've got to essentially maintain it to keep it alive, then they're just not for me. I was considering the Seiko 5 until a regular poster here posted his talking about losing 20 seconds a week, and I can't wind it up manually if I haven't worn it in a while.
>>
>>59655257
Alright Mr. Yunioshi, calm down.

Seems a lot of the older watches in general have plainer, simpler, cleaner faces without being an advertisement for themselves about the water resist, jewels, crystal face, automatic etc.

What a shame these types of new product watches are now "retro" styling at a $600 premium.

Why? Because you googled it?

Traditionally in the west the first day of the week is going to be Sunday. That's why Sunday is the first day on a calendar when reading left to right. Only more recently have people started to consider Monday the first day of the week and sat+sun the "weekend," especially in Europe.

Pretty sure I'm getting it.

Was thinking about a Seiko transocean for a while, but there was some weirdness to it, like the integrated lugs.

Then I was considering splurging on a tudor pelagos LHD, but the money was making me nervous.

This new Seiko seems to hit the sweet spot: solid looks, not too big, and not too spensive.

I'm afraid the lug width is going to be 20mm though, so I'll probably get the one with the silicon band which flares out to the lug edges.

Not sure how I'm gonna feel about wearing a silicon strap for daily wear though.

You don't know what traditionally means, and you didn't understand the point that simply assuming China considers Monday the first day of the week is not tapping into special "common sense," that it "doesn't take a genius to figure out." It's literally just someone being ignorant that sometimes people in the past or even in the present that belong to different cultures have a different concept about things like time and days of a week.

(Or if not an childish assumption that all cultures are the same, then it's explicit knowledge of how the Chinese do things, and attempt to flaunt that knowledge with a pompous head-up-ass remark like "it doesn't take a genius to see." That's also possibly, but I doubt it.)

You mistake crappy for casual.
Rubber straps are poo in loo teir

Rec me a replacement strap for my bambino
>>
>>59662418
Sure, casual. But they look cheap.
And post pics
>>
>>59662433
>But they look cheap
Not him, but there's variety of natos ranging from about $2 to $150
Do you mean they ALL look cheap?
>>
>>59662505
I've never seen on in person over 15bucks, so there's that.
I honestly can't imagine an expensive one looking better than than metal or leather.
Rubber is excluded from this cause crap.

I don't think the Trident Pro Vintage is under £500 is it?
>>
>>59662549
The OEM ones from Omega, Tudor, etc. look nice, (but still casual).

I wear NATOs in the summer / while travelling to avoid ruining the leather straps and to make presumtive thieves think I'm wearing a shitter.

I stick to the original G10 straps by Phoenix (£10-15).
>>
>>59662676
>>59662676
Personally I just wear out my leather and get a new one. They aren't expensive.
>thieves think it's a shitter
Doooood, that's exactly my point kek

What's the deal with enamel?
>>
>>59660943
21,600 bph, plastic gear in the day/date quick-set mechanism that shrinks and cracks due to age. Eventually every 56xx Seiko is likely to end up with a broken quickset.

Did rubber kill your dog m8? Woofer got rubbed out?

You probably wear NATOs

Does every Timex have the second hand stop between indexes?
>>
>>59664152
depends on which kid was building it I guess
>>
On the valjoux 7750, is the minute hand suppose to be a little loose when setting the time ?

Like, when I turn the crown to set the time the minute hand sort of gives way as soon as I stop turning. It doesn't stick to the exact position I advance it to.

>USA is the cancer of the world
>>
>>59664171
My Waterbury does it, I wanted to return it but Amazon wanted me to pay for shipping: $9 on a $33 watch.

Indiglo is bar far the best feature on a watch and only Timex has it. Rumor has it Casio has a decent indiglo knockoff (not the illuminator on the terrorist watches) but for an analog watch.
>>
>>59664304
Does Timex even make anything in Waterbury anymore?
>>
>>59664437
No, its simply an homage to their roots; US time company made watches, then introduced a commoners watch known as Timex.

They have several Waterbury watches now, usually in the $80 range with a generic Timex movement. Some of them are really good looking watches with a slightly domed crystal. After having this one Timex I'll never buy another, kinda sad because I like the look of it and a few other Timexes. Supposedly they're rather durable.

Alpinist but with a bracelet
>>
>>59661404
No, and neither is that watch.
That watch is an electric watch, but not quartz.
Those watches are solar quartz, not mechanical.
An Accutron is a different ball game. It's a tuning fork watch.
An Accutron II is a quirky quartz watch.
>>
>>59662802
It's hard to make and looks relatively unique.

Tell me not to buy this. I love the in house movement and the style. And it's cheaper than a comparable high end brand watch.

I think that's the 43mm version, they are nice in 38mm though. I have the Trident 300 in 38mm.
>>
>>59662626
Pre-Owned it's often down to low £500s in UK. I prefer my logo as well...
>>
>>59664137
Yea I'd go for the 38mm.
>>
Do other people hate NATO straps as much as me? I always spot chads with Daniel Wllington watches on NATO straps and it looks shit. When I see high end watches on this shit it grinds my gears. Perlon looks ten times better if it's cheapness you want. NATO never looks good.
Pic related is the epitome of modern shitty watch brands. There's a new one every week but this brand seems to actually have made people think it's good.
>>
>>59668707
I'm with you. Looks cheap, if not crappy.
