>and neither is that watch.
It's a rare kind of quartz-controlled balance wheel movement. So it's quartz.
>>
>>59668021
I'm not a fan of the "reverse california" dial. and the long lugs of the club always kind of put me off.
other than that i think it's a really great watch. i prefer the lighter dial colours though.
>>
>>59668289
i'm going to need more info then, because my small brain can't fathom how this would work.
>>
>>59668309
It's a needlessly complicated form of quartz timekeeping. I'm not exactly sure how it works either, I guess the balance replaces the stepping motor of an ordinary quartz movements.

Never see anyone post them. Lot of their shit seems a bit over the top looks wise, but the simple ones look pretty sweet.

I've heard of leaving your watch crown down overnight. What does this do and why would I do so? Does it damage the watch at all?
>>
>>59669222
Generally it'd make the watch run slower than if you left it dial up. No, it doesn't do any damage.
>>
About to pull the trigger on ray ii. Is there any other good automatic watches for less than 200usd?

>>
>>59669222
Setting it down on the crown every day for years causes slow erosion that will destroy parts of the keyless work and the mainplate. I've seen pics of these, but I can't find it right now, but it happens.

On the other hand if it's a Vostok Amphibia you're probably safe because of the clutch disconnect. Or if it has an offset crown like the Seiko 5.
>>
>>59669096
A bit expensive for what they are. That one in particular is $10k. If you want hacking seconds? That's another $1250.

Is it a bad idea to wear mechanicals when you run
>>

It's just more convenient as you don't have to wind it and can put it on a watch winder when you're not wearing it.

>>59670211
I would leave it on the jubilee for maximum yuppie factor.
>>
>>59670353

>>
>>59670348
Probably not if its something that's shock resistant, like seiko 5. Also, arms swing aound in smooth motions more than they do small shocks while you run. I'd argue that riding a bike on a rough surface or riding in a vehicle in a street with many bumps is more more detrimental than running.
>>
>>59670211
It's a gaudy piece of shit no matter what strap you put it on.

Cool. This 5206 has been doing fairly well since servicing. It still shows the amplitude variance that seems to be common with 52xx movements when they are freshly serviced but the gains and losses tend to cancel each other out meaning it's already fairly accurate.

There's no turning back now, is it? I have a Suwa 6106 5Actus coming in from Japan.

6106's are good movements overall, though they do share the same mainspring bearing issues as the 6105 (same movement, just day only).

7019 (or 7XXX series in general) are much more robust movements and are the predecessors to the 7S26, and they are usually higher quality.

So i was checking out the some of the grand seikos that were released in the past few years, the ones with the 9s65 movement (automatic, non-hi-beat).

I quite like the look of them. I especially like those which are 37mm in size. I currently have the sarb035 and at 38mm it feels just slightly a bit too big for my taste. The 37mm grand seikos on the other hand feel just right. Also, the 72 hour power reserve for such a small case is really impressive to me. The only problem is that they are thicker at 13.3mm compared to the 11.2mm sarb035.

Should I get one of the already existing models, or should I wait for grand seiko to release new models (you know, with just the grand seiko logo)? I am worried cause grand seiko seems to be releasing bigger and bigger cases every year.

Looks like some out of production orient star. But plenty more similar to it - just google orient star rose gold.

Fossil's automatics are okay (no-name Japanese automatics), though probably objectively overpriced for the quality of the finishing and the movement - you're paying a lot for just the designer brand name. Their quartz watches are very overpriced for the quality of the finishing and the movement.

If you decide you like one, don't let anyone here stop you, but understanding you're mostly buying a designer label, not a serious watch.

Being a young professional trying to afford a quality time piece, I started my search my search for quality watches. I looked through many different brands including the popular Rolex's, Breitlings etc. but none stood out to me like the elegant design of the Omega Speedmaster. This watch lives up to its expectations in every single way, quality, weight, versatility, sexiness ;) etc. If any of you are considering purchasing this timepiece do not hesitate you will thank me later! If anything has good suggestions for bands let me know. I would love to hear your thoughts.

And here's the movement. It's undecorated as during the depression Waltham had a tight-ass CEO who cut 100% of the frills from their movements (which were previously hand decorated and finely finished) and focused purely on mechanical accuracy and quality.

It's nickel-finished, 23 jewels, adjusted to 6 positions, and features a Breguet-style balance spring for maximum accuracy.

And finally a view of the dial. My camera is complete chinese dogshit and it makes every photo look like I have Parkinson's even if I hold still.

The lustrous bluing on the hands is beautiful and it looks like actual bluing instead of just a blue paint that people try to recreate on modern vintage-style watches. Miles of difference in appearance.

I love the reeded bezel on both the front and back, and the gently sloped plexiglass crystal (not original) really completes the piece.

When I have the watch running it's louder than shit with a distinct CHICKCHICKCHICKCHICKCHICK noise, but in a pleasant way.

This watch is a family heirloom that eventually got down to me from my great, great grandfather who stole it from a train conductor at gunpoint.

Externally they are almost spot on to real ones which is impressive. There are a couple issues with the date lens and a couple other areas that are a give away. The illumination also isn't anywhere as good as a real one.

As for internals...the guy who sold me them claimed they had Seiko movements which I doubted...and opening up at least the two smaller ones shows they just have super generic automatic movements with no branding. I suspect the Sea-Dweller is the same but I didn't have the right key size to open it.

Has to be.
There are no black PVD'd rolex models. All horrid custom hack jobs. There is an official tudor model, but no rolex.

Only one company is capable of making a half decent black watch that you'd be pretty comfortable with it no scratching and looking like dogshit after a few years (or one year). It would take deliberate action to scratch for do so and be apparent.

Nevertheless, even that company is not totally immune.

Black watches are a mistake. They will always scratch to silver and look messy after some wear.
Black damasko's will hold up better, much better than anything else on the market, but they too are able to be scratched.

Chinks also have have decent ETA clones, so that doesn't really change much.

And that's an understatement, as the dial on a brand new Seiko 5 looks more detailed and better finished than that dogshit.

24 hour movement is supposed to be the 2623H. Maybe it's a 2609HA modified with the 24 hour parts, ie a franken.

Anyone know much about these Issey watches? They're made by seiko and are quite distinctive.

You mean the tachy on the outside? The numbers are stretched so that it appears normal when viewed form above. Inspired by road markings apparently...

Still raketa movement, so Im satisfied.
My only complaint is that its loud

I have a simple idea to make the F-91W more appealing to watch aficionados. It will require no changes to the movement or the overall manufacturing process.
>>

You'll throw that shit directly in the garbage can?
Because, serioulsy, that's the only way a true watch aficionado will find appealing.

Make sure you handle one in person before you decide. The case, dial, and hands are not well made or finished enough for the price they are charging, not even to mention the atrocious made in China joke of a bracelet it comes on.

I honestly can't believe that Omega gets away with charging $4,000 for them.

This

I could probably wear anything in this country (holland) and get away with it. But wearing some sparkling toy in the culturally enriched parts of town may be a bit risky after dark

Disgust.jpg
>>
>>59684408
There was a really good thread about it in Sweephands blog, but i'll tl;dr it

With older batteries from the 70's you could have expected about 6 months of running, while with newer batteries you can do anywhere from 12 to 18 months.
>>
>>59673448

>>59684763
I'd say they're on par with Steinhart but Chris Ward 's original designs aren't all ugly as fuck.
>>
>>59684763
Honestly I hate most of their stuff especially their vivid blue diver.
This vintage and their red ceramic are the only two I like. I also like how they do the 38mm.

Fuck it I'm not buying a watch. I'll spend my money on things that actually matter instead.

116000 BEST rollie. If you have a smaller wrist it's great. The 39mm Oyster Perpetuals are nice too, if you want it bigger.

That's not the point. It's that the dial/brand is trying to score too many brownie points.
