So which is better, the Huawei P8 or P9 Lite?

Am primarily focused on battery life (fast charge would be nice), camera (P8 has OIS) and for under £200-ish.

Would like something small, 5 inch or smaller, did like the Xperia X Compact and the iPhone SE but expensive.

Apple's iPhone SE 'refresh' means that you now pay £379 for 32GB instead of their 'older' model which was 64GB for the same price.

I've been out of the loop with regards to rooting and installing custom roms for years since I've only been buying stock Android phones. Last I recall, Samsung phones were incredibly locked down and it took forever for people to make custom roms for them, especially if it's a model with an exynos processor. Is that still true?

Also look at the Zuk Z2. It has more or less the same features, but more battery, 1080 screen, and 5 inches instead of 5.7. I was also using a Zenfone before this and this phone is more manageable for one handed use. If you get a Zuk though, I highly recommend a gel case since the glass back on the phone makes it slide around on almost all surfaces.

I thought the Z2 had more band coverage than that, desu. If you're using ATT, you'll definitely see reduced performance. That anon is wrong about T-Mobile, though; their main band is 4, not 12. They're adding more bandwidth to 12 than anywhere else, but 4 still has the most. Anyway, you probably shouldn't get a Z2 on ATT, but the Z2 does have dual sim, so there is the option to get voice on one SIM and data on another, if that gets you a better deal. I was using pay as you go for voice since I barely call and a tablet data plan for a while, but now I just use a tablet data plan with free VOIP and $2/month for unlimited texting in Canada. $20 under 1GB and $40 under 5GB, which isn't the greatest deal, but it's the best available in my area.

Expandable storage was a more compelling feature when devices had small ROM at like 16GB. My phone has 64GB and I have a media/file server on a fiber connection. I'm not even close to maxing out my phone and when I do I can leverage the media server more. All else fails, by the time I'm filling the phone's storage, I can buy a new one with 128GB+ since this one will be showing its age by then anyway. That way when you go out of town, you can browse porn at your location, sent the torrent to your media server to be downloaded, have it download using your home connection, which I assume is fast, then stream it to your location. I do this all the time when I'm visiting family (although I watch TV shows and movies rather than porn).

No. I didn't use a guide, so I don't know if a good once exists. A quick google seems to suggest that there isn't a good one.

you will need:
-a reasonably fast computer, i5 quadcore and 4GB of ram for best results
-a dynamic DNS service for your network to make it easily accessible (a router running DD-WRT, OpenWRT, or pfsense will make this much easier)
-fast upload speed, at least 20mbit recommended, although you could get by with 10
-Linux distro on your computer, Ubuntu Server recommended for best software and troubleshooting support
-torrent daemon installed with remote access configured
-video streaming software like Plex installed (may not work well with porn, I've never tried), may require remote access configuration
-hard drive of sufficient capacity, plus backup hard drive if you like
-entries added to /etc/fstab to ensure that your media drives mount automatically should your server reboot for some reason (power outage, etc)

It's a bit of work if you're familiar with Linux and network configuration. It's a lot more work if you're not. But if you want to do it, what I've listed above should be enough for you to research more to set things up.

Here's my advice coming from someone who has gone through only 6 years of smartphones but has had both great and shit phones.

One Plus meme or not, don't buy a device because it's decent enough for a cheap price. Like everything in the world, invest in something good.

Don't buy international phones. Don't buy shady chinkphones. Now, unless you know your way around dealing with both customer service and phone moderation, then go for it. If you're as noob as you say you are, buy from a local store or unlocked via website that's catered to your country.

From what it seems like, you want a phone that works, that can handle your daily tasks, and likes a decent camera. It doesn't look like you need top of the line, which is fine. Get something that people regard as midtier. It's not an insult at all and it avoids having to pay $1000+ for a phone that'll just be way too high spec for you anyways.

My suggestions for you and for others looking for reliable phones for a considerable price:

As for the OP3, I've now had it for a year.
It's the fastest, 'coolest' device temp-wise, and longest lasting phone I've had. Then again, I've only owned the 5/5x previously. I love Oxygen OS. I only ever had the Nexus' and Oxy OS felt like a ROM-- cool gestures, tweaks, music control, etc. It's almost like PureNexus ROM in a way.
The charging is beautiful. I'm pretty good with carrying my wall adapter/cable with me for any device so now that this device charged 60% in 30 minutes AND the OP3 stays cool, was amazing. This allows me to save money on buying an external battery too. The SOT is about 5-6 hrs.

Go for the OP3T if you need to choose.
