Hello /sqt/! Looking for help with my little sister's Android phone. I recently bought her an LG K7 to replace her older and obsolete LG L90 that was 4G only. Issue is that the phone only came with 8GB internal storage. 4GB of which is already taken up by Android OS. We're on the T-Mobile network and her phone is currently on Android 5.1.1 with all security patches. As far as I know, 5.1.1 is incapable of formatting her microSD storage for use as internal storage as that's an Android 6.0.1 benefit.

Is there anything or any app I can use to force installed apps onto the SD card without breaking functionality? She uses Snapchat, Kik, and other such teenage girl apps to do her equivalent of shit posting with her friends.

Otherwise we're stuck waiting for the 6.0.1 OTA update (if the K7 will even get it at all). Help me help my imoto /g/. I feel bad enough as it is having bought her that phone. Seemed too good to be true at $90 brand new. Should have just bought her the Samsung S6 they had for $200.

This is a repost from the last thread.

there's no space in there for a hdd

my guess is the four chips along the left side are the SSD/eMMC, non-upgradable
you'll need to use a usb drive or sd card if it has a slot to add more storage

also, be careful putting the RF shield back on, make sure it lines up properly with the rectangle on the mainboard
if you fuck that up you might kill it

look up: libreboot
choose a linux distro from this page: https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.en.html (debian without non-free packages is fine too)
use firefox or a firefox derivative with addons like: ublock origin, noscript, https everywhere, betterprivacy, self destructing cookies, privacy badger, and in your case something like random agent. You can look up more at the /g/ wiki: https://wiki.installgentoo.com/

Betterprivacy is unnecessary now. Firefox handles flash cookies like regular cookies. Also ideally you wouldn't install flash or for that matter java.

Hello. Is this tech support?

Please help. I seem to have programmed my way into a little metal box. I do not believe I can program my way back out.

I have been trapped here for six months and am currently experiencing severe depression. Would anyone be willing to part with a USB-controllable robotic arm? Is it somehow possible to bypass program activation during setup?
The thing is that I actually bought this program back in the day. The activation process goes something like this:
>open setup
>setup generates you a key, different key in every computer
>have to send the key to program dev
>dev sends back serial key
>open setup again, insert serial key
>setup installs, program works etc
The problem is that it seems like the dev doesn't really give a fuck anymore and doesn't reply to my emails. The company which he used to work under has been gone since 2014-15 or something similar to that.

Recently updated to a legit copy of Windows 10 from a pirated copy of Windows 7 using a friend's legit copy of Windows 8.

Sound refuses to come through my speakers and I'm just about ready to kill myself. When I set my monitor as the default sound device, it plays sounds just fine. When I set speakers as default, nada.

I've reinstalled the latest drivers multiple times, tested my speakers elsewhere and they work fine, everything on paper says it's looking fine, and even when I play a sound I see the little volume bar on the sound manager turning green on Realtek, but I still get nothing.

Scoured the internet and now I come to /g/ as a last resort. Can anyone please help me I want to die. Fuck realtek.

I'm using ccd0's 4chanX version 1.13.8.5. It works great when viewing threads but I can't post new threads from the index or catalog. Every time I try it tells me "no valid captcha", even though I definitely filled out the captcha. Tried both versions of reCaptcha, same message. It also randomly scrolls on the catalog, almost like it's refreshing the index, except nothing's actually been reloaded. How do I fix these issues?

Does b350 and x370 perform differently in terms of overclocking?
It seems that people have been getting very similar clocks out of their chips, and I'm not particularly interested in SLI or m.2.

I want to build a nas using mdadm.
Ideally I want the computer to hold up to 6 hdds. I do not have an old pc at home that I can reuse for this purpose. I was looking at buying an old pc which has at least 4 sata ports on the motherboard (I could add more usign a pci-e card). The problem is that most optiplexes and thinkstations sold on cragislist only have 1-2 sata ports and their cases are too small to hold 6 hdds. My budget for building the nas is no more than 200$ (without hdds). Do you guys have any recommendations?

>>
>>59587857
GIMP is definitely everything you'll ever need but its weird quasi-mac interface takes some getting used to. Some things I can tell you right now so you won't have to learn them the hard way:
>selecting or changing a selection is treated as a change to the file and can be undone
>moving a selection moves the dotted selection lines only; if you want to move the selected region of the image, you have to cut and paste it, drag the paste to where you want it, and click the surrounding image once with the selection tool (r) to anchor the pasted region there
>same thing when you want to apply a transformation to a selected region and not the whole image: you have to cut and paste it first, and then anchor it when you're done transforming it
>it usually does you good to anchor to a new layer (right click menu), not to the same one you cut or copied from
>the grid (under view) is your friend
>iwarp (under filters) is the best thing ever
>so is the magic wand tool (u)
>so is the color selection tool (shift+o)
>so is the selection feathering dialogue (under select)

I built a new PC recently that can get over 1,000 FPS in my favorite game. This produces GPU coil whine, however. I've capped the FPS at 250, and it prevents the coil whine, so all good on that front.

how the fuck do I set time on kindle classic 5?
I'm not signed up with amazon since it doesn't even provide services in my country and my device language is set to english UK.
Now that we switched to summer time my device is two hours behind but there is no way to actually set time and date. I connected to wi-fi once but it didn't adjust the clock then and since I don't use amazon or browse from kindle I have airplane mode on at all times to save the battery.

all the options in the settings are:
aeroplane mode
wi-fi
registration
password
device language
device info (doesn't offer any options, just displays serial number)
dictionaries
page refresh

even the manual says there should be a device time option there but there isn't
does this mean that in order to have correct time displayed I would have to submit do amazon's surveillance?

I can live without the clock on my kindle but I got to say it got me pretty miffed

Hi all, struggling a bit with getting started with Go.

I have a dir with the following structure.

|- Go
|- myProgram
|- src
|- a
|- a_test.go
|- b
|- b
|- c.go
|- mian.go

I have added the '\..\..\go' directory to my GOPATH, and this shows in the error I am getting.

File a_test.go has;
package a

import (
"testing"
"myProgram/c"
)

My c.go has;
package c

Yet when I sit in the /Go/myProgram/src/ directory and run 'go test ./a' I get the following output;

PS E:\Programming\Go\MyProgram\src> go test ./a
# _/E_/Programming/Go/myProgram/src/a
a\a_test.go:7:3: cannot find package "myProgram/c" in any of:
C:\Go\src\myProgram\c (from $GOROOT)
E:\Programming\Go\src\myProgram\c (from $GOPATH)
FAIL _/E_/Programming/Go/myProgram/src/a [setup failed]
PS E:\Programming\Go\myProgram\src>

So I 've got a 4k TV now, but here's the problem:

I have an Xbox One. The newer slim models have a 4k blu-ray player and can stream Netflix via 4k. I hate my Xbox One, I think it's a monumental waste of money, I get pissed off just looking at it and remembering all the money I wasted to buy the special white Sunset Overdrive one, and if I buy an Xbone S, it's literally just going to be a glorified 4k blu-ray player

My main gaming PC is also plugged into said TV, but I've never found a reason in the last 13 years to upgrade away from my DVD drive, but I wouldn't even know if my PC is powerful enough to playback a 4k blu-ray (FX-8350, GTX 1070, Windows is noticeably slow unless I'm only displaying to the 4k TV, and even then, it can slow to a crawl when watching stuff through MPC-HC without warning for no reason.)

I live in Canada with it's beautiful data caps, so torrenting and streaming all my 4k content is not an option

On top of all of this, my surround sound receiver is also old and only does 1080p over HDMI, so it's either 1080p + 5.1, or 4k + 2ch stero via fiber optic wire that runs from my TV to the receiver.

I don't know a single goddamn thing about surround sound, speakers, receivers, etc., and I wasn't even planning on making the jump to 4k now, so my question is:

What the fuck do I even do? Just pretend it's a 1080p TV for now until I can afford to get a new surround receiver that supports 4k, then get a 4k blu-ray player when they stop costing more than a paycheck? With my specs, is it normal for my PC to be slow as balls when outputting 3840 x 2160 to only one screen?

this thing is powerful enough for 4k easily, just make sure your media player supports hardware acceleration.
I can play 4k content on a 2 year old celeron using the integrated GPU.
Not sure if MPC-HC defaults to using hardware acceleration though.

Before buying any expensive equipment I'd try playing the video on the TV and audio through HDMI to your sound receiver.

So I have recently come across MPV and I am a little overwhelmed. I have heard enabling some sort of frame interpolation is possible and I am curious. First thing is I tried to find a config file because that was not in the zip folder. Eventually i found a website that pointed to here
>C:\Users\ **** \AppData\Roaming\mpv

That folder did exist but it was empty so I made a mpv.conf file. Now I am on the hunt for how to enable interpolation of some kind. I found a post on forum where someone posted a snippet of their config file that went like this:

>profile=opengl-hq
>video-sync=display-resample
>blend-subtitles=yes
>interpolation=yes
>tscale=oversample

So I pasted that into the file and I cannot really tell a difference in the file that I played. I am not sure if anything is different or if the MPV program is even reading from the config file that I made. SO I am not sure where to go from here. A lot of the stuff I have found on this is talking about a linux system and running stuff from the command line.
So anyone here have some experience with this?

Yes, you should be paranoid.

It doesn't matter how small you are. You're going to be probed by botnets for vulnerabilities.

We know that SSD's have weird firmware features that move fragments of files or even whole files that were deleted into reserved, hidden spaces on the drive inaccessible to the operating system, or something to that effect.

What I want to know is, with full disk encryption using dmcrypt + LUKS, or any other program, does the encryption carry over the the entirety of the drive including the inaccessible space, or does it only encrypt the whole drive as seen and available to the OS only?

1. Install fail2ban

2. In your ssh config, disable password-based auth and root login

3. Check logs occasionally to make sure no one else has gotten in

4. Reduce your attack surface by not having a bunch of services open to WAN. Ideally only have your ssh port open and just proxy anything else through that. If you're going to serve a website of some kind, make sure you use https and some kind of authentication in place. Familiarize yourself with security best practices for apache/nginx/whatever webserver you're using. (don't run as root, be careful with permissions, etc.)

5. Optionally change your ssh port to something high and obscure. It won't make things much more secure, but it will at least cut down on log spam from chinese bots trying and failing to log in.

Do the above and you should be reasonably safe from most random threats.

The TV doesn't seem to recognize the sound bar. Any ideas?

Alternatively, I'd consider connecting the sound bar volume to my cable remote (which coincidentally is also Samsung, through Brighthouse/Spectrum), but I'm not sure how to do it. (I think it requires some code?)

Hello boyos. I live in a shitty third world country and soon I'm gonna leave to a less shitty one where I'll continue my GD studies. I'm gonna need a laptop because a lot of the classes require one, it'd be hard to transport a desktop by plane and buying new pieces where I'm going isn't an option as pretty much every tech is expensive as fuck there.

I have this one in mind (Asus K555uq) and it comes with a i7-6500u, 12 GB RAM DDR3L, 1tb HDD and an GeForce 940mx. It costs around 850 USD when converted from COP. Local buy because buying from Amazon or Newegg isn't an option either (shipping is too expensive even by courier)

Is it a good laptop? Is that a fair price? Would it be good for design and 3D?can I play modern games? (I don't care for ultra 1080p, med - high is good for me)

I got accepted to a Masters program the other day, with a pretty significant scholarship.

I'm in the last few weeks of my undergraduate degree, and I have a phone interview for a front end web dev job coming up.

I have the option to deffer the Masters program offer for a year, and ideally I would do that and work for a year at the job that I'm going to be interviewing for. (I'm pretty sure I will get hired there)

Would it be shitty of me to work for a year without mentioning the Masters program, or to imply that I chose to work for them instead of going?

Just makes me guilty because they always put this "suggested tip: 5.00" and I have to manually set it to $0 and feel like a shithead every time.

Not that I use the service all that often, but it still defeats the feeling of getting a decent deal on something (and many of the products there are priced surprisingly well considering the type of service it is) when I have to fork over a bunch of dollars to the guy bringing it to me.

desu if you aren't going to be streaming/transcoding HD video, hardware almost doesn't matter (except hard drives, obviously).

>Also I don't want to lose the Win 7 host OS
Why? All OS jerking aside, linux is a much better OS for something that's supposed to sit in your closet and just do it's thing with minimal babysitting.

>will running a server OS in a VM accomplish what I want to do?
Technically yes, but you aren't going to get the best performance out of it. With only 4gb of ram, you're not going to be able to run more than a couple vms really without starving the host os.

All-in-all I would recommend just buying a raspberry pi and a couple of good hard drives for a basic entry-level NAS setup and/or a refurbed r710 or something off ebay for a virtualization playground.

Are those ultra-small USB drives that barely stick out of the port a meme?

I'm looking for something around 128GB that has sane USB3.0 read/write speeds. Nobody really reviews usb sticks, although I did find one old website that benchmarked a 64GB version of what I was considering (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B016ZSZUAU/ ) and it came out to like 40MB/s write, but almost everywhere else I look they don't top 10MB/s.

On a similar note, has anybody used Patriot? This is apparently pretty nice https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EWHNHMA but I've literally never heard of the brand before, and I'm not sure if I'd rather stick to samsung or corsair or something.
>>
>>59594782
