Hi /g/! I want to do a full disc encryption (maybe excluding boot partitions) of a dualbooting laptop.
I dbaned and reformated the drive and was thinking about partitioning the drive like this:
1. unencrypted primary linux /boot partition
2. encrypted extended linux partition
a. logical swap partition
b. logical / partition
3. unencrypted extended windows partition
a. logical recovery partition
b. encrypted logical windows partition (no efi partition, laptop uses bios)
4. encrypted primary ntfs partition with files to be mounted under windows or linux

I'm using win 7 home premium and arch antergos, i wanna encrypt windows and storage partition with veracrypt and linux swap and / with a built in encryption

is this partitioning ok?
what order should i install and encrypt?

what are some good (preferably free if possible) resources to teach myself IT any and all related material? been taking some classes, but beyond the very basics, the IT program at my school is terrible.

If I buy a 2TB HDD running at 5400 RPM (instead of 7200) for videos, images, etc, storage; will it affect things like watching videos, movies, etc, knowing the programs used to open such files are on my SSD?

Well I checked my old HDDs and they were all 7200 as well (even the 232GB Seagate ones) thus why I'm a bit troubled.

Yeah apparently I could even watch 5 1080p anime at once if I wanted on a 5400 RM from what I understood about its readspeed and the amount of speed needed in video playback situations.

So if I got that right I should (or can) definitely go with a 5400 RPM (WD Blue) for a storage/media HDD. I also read new 5400 RPM HDDs are often faster than old 7200 ones because of... stuff I didn't exactly understand.

So I've gotten my computer running on a new ssd, same everything else, and now I realize the drivers for the mobo haven't been installed. Only problem is, I past installed them when i made this computer, five years ago, and I don't know where the cd or whatever I put in to install the drivers is. I'm running Trisquel-Mini 6.0 (Toutatis) on an IBM ThinkCentre (MT-M 8183-WYQ), and it is running nicely but the LXDE uses too much of the total 512MB of RAM for the integrated AGP chip to use the maximum of 256MB RAM. This prevents Netflix (which I do have working through Chrome) from playing video at an acceptable frame-rate, even with low-quality streaming selected. I'd like to find a way to minimize the system requirements so that the AGP has more available RAM. Could I somehow use a command-line program to access Netflix, giving the browser and AGP-chip most of the system resources? Something similar to w3m? I can live without a desktop, this computer is really just an internet terminal.

My Asus Crosshair VI appears to have mounting holes for AM3+.

Since then I've done a summer project where I half-programmed a VR game using Unreal Engine/C++ and I've made a little shitty codebase (~2k lines of C++) to do a big solo semester project of analysing some data.

I purchased a Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital joystick at a thift store and dug around and found an old PCI soundcard that had a Gameport port

After inserting the soundcard into my computer and confirming that the soundcard works (outputs sound to speakers) I plugged in the joystick to the Gameport and Linux will not detect the joystick at all

"lspci" gives this for the soundcard info

Alright. I used nano to write .xinitrc (I didn't have one) with

I have a SSD in a MBP that I want to use for a custom build PC.

The MBP has an older version of MacOS on the HDD which is connected to the optical drive.

So, in CSS in html, I can create shapes inside of a div, and I can basically make a ginormous div with a javascript loop to generate the shape a couple of hundred times, to make a tiled shape for the background.

My question is how can I make it so that I can't scroll to the large part of the background shape loop div, where there is no webpage content?

As of right now, I can make position:fixed for the CSS of that div, but the only problem is that the div content doesn't move at all when scrolling down.

You could open up your sound mixer and see if you have two volume controls for your headphones.
One specifically for the headphones, and another master volume.
I would use alsamixer from the command line, because I trust that to talk to things more directly.

Why is it that when I try to transfer an .iso file onto my fat32 usb, it stops being fat32 and becomes "unallocated" according to gparted?

To be clear, I'm not just trying to copy paste the .iso, I'm trying to make a bootable usb

I tried reinstalling Windows the other day, so I could dual boot, and am wondering why Windows uses so much more CPU when idling? The fan roars, too, compared to when I'm using lubuntu.

Hello /sat/! Looking for help with my little sister's Android phone. I recently bought her an LG K7 to replace her older and obsolete LG L90 that was 4G only. Issue is that the phone only came with 8GB internal storage. 4GB of which is already taken up by Android OS. We're on the T-Mobile network and her phone is currently on Android 5.1.1 with all security patches. As far as I know, 5.1.1 is incapable of formatting her microSD storage for use as internal storage as that's an Android 6.0.1 benefit.

Is there anything or any app I can use to force installed apps onto the SD card without breaking functionality? She uses Snapchat, Kik, and other such teenage girl apps to do her equivalent of shit posting with her friends.

Otherwise we're stuck waiting for the 6.0.1 OTA update (if the K7 will even get it at all). Help me help my imoto /g/. I feel bad enough as it is having bought her that phone. Seemed too good to be true at $90 brand new. Should have just bought her the Samsung S6 they had for $200.
