Thoughts on this Railmaster?

It uses a 3205 cal, automatic column wheel chronograph based on the Piguet 1285

I love the railmaster style, but don't want cuck axial and don't have 10grand for a vintage ck2914

I am looking for a good chrono at some point and while I am pretty set on an El Primero I feel this could be easier on my wallet

Did Seiko stop making quartz chronos with a 1/10 or 1/5th of a second sub dial?

I have only seen them on vintage models. And browsing their most expensive quartz chrono line up they don't seem to have any that can time in increments smaller than 1 second.
>>
>>59556745
mecaquartz are 1/5th on the main chrono hand i think
>>
>>59556708

The solar power on my GW-5000 is kind of annoying, because I don't wear it all that often and have to keep it by the window or it runs down.

I guess I could turn off the beep and the atomic sync, but I use it to set everything else and then what would be the point of it? Still less of a pain in the ass than an automatic winder, I guess.
>>
>>59555322
I've been wearing my new cal 1230 for two days and thoroughly recommend it.

Basically an open source watch movement. It is not fast moving but still, I had hoped a watch would be on the horizon soon.

>>
>>59557629
What;s the point of this when you can buy "closed" movements off the internet and put them in watches?

An "open source" physical object makes no sense.

the accuracy manufacturers give is a worst case scenario. you can get a 7s26 that happens to run +-0s/d, that doesn't make it a better movement than a -1/+5 8R.

It's a tuning fork that shakes a sealed box with a magnetic wheel inside (the one you see in the video with four holes). The magnetic wheel then regulates the gear train.

1) It can happen you buy a product by mistake eg buying a baking machine that can't make white bread.
2) Sometimes products that are sold secondhand are considered in good condition for one user and another user can find this unaccaptable eg buying a watch with a hairline scratch some people can live with it some can't either way if it wasn't mentioned you can send it back.
3) Sometimes people buy a Phone online for a cheap price and are too ignorant to know its a knock off again if you buy a replica Rolex watch which is not illegal but not the real thing you can also ask for your money back.

and yes fraud is Always illegal

You're not really comparing like with like. The fake Russian watches' main competition is Seagull really, who also make decent movements with Swiss technology. Only difference is that theirs are a lot cheaper because there isn't a scarcity of the movements since they're still being made. If you like the look of one then feel free, it's your money and you could do a lot worse.

Though bear in mind that if you live in the US it'll be almost impossible to get serviced without sending it back to Europe which is time consuming and may cost money if customs decide they want you to pay import tax again.

This is a Seiko 5s21-7a10. It is a quartz high-beat (4hz) with a vial of liquid inside that dampens the movement of the second hand, resulting in a completely smooth sweep.

I believe the 5s21 was only made from 1989 to 1991. There are always some on Yahoo jp auctions and occasionally some on eBay, though there were a lot of case/dial designs so good luck finding this exact piece.

My father had this ZODIAC DRAGON WING

Seems really cool gorgeous design and good mechanism should i keep it

or go for another watch for example tissot chronograph or a citizen eco-drive chronograph i would prefer suggestions for chronographs
>>
What are some good Russian watches and where would be a good place to order one?
>>
>>59568377
Lurk the threads for a while. Modern Zodiac isn't worth anything like its vintages are, and it's quite gaudy like most other mall-tier watches. Tissot isn't particularly great either overall. Citizen is fine if you just want a nice watch that works and not much else but in that case just stick with what you have if you like it.
>>
>>59568529
I see i appreciate the help i like the dragon wing a lot but i would like to by a chronograph that i will choose my self of and course keeping the zodiac for my self eh might hand it over to my father

Gaiz, watch repair anon here. Steel screwdown caseback rusted shut, WD40 yes or no? I'm not worried about the seals, they're likely aged and brittle anyway.

Normally you aren't allowed to use WD40 on any watch or clock, but for loosening the rust on the case it can't hurt right?

Christ, maybe this is why the Swiss don't do caseback rings anymore. Once the notches are worn there's no way to get a grip on that shit.

But yeah, mine is a 2209 Amphibia. Original owner must have took it for a swim in saltwater and didn't rinse it. Nothing horrible though, just a bunch of rust pits here and there.

>>
>>59569062
Always funny seeing these shitty watches advertise "stainless steel back", never mind anything important like the case, bezel, crown, or caseback screw ring. Rings are fine, just don't make them out out of soft ass brass. However, I've never seen one as bad as mine was. Single-piece backs are probably just an excuse for servicers to charge exuberant prices to also replace shitty sheared gaskets and water tests when performing routine battery changes.
>>
>>59569424
There's Orient
>>
>>59569429
"Stainless steel back" is mostly a vestigial remnant from the time most casebacks were nickel (like 80-90 years ago). It mostly survived because of hypochondriac normies' fear of metal allergy (when in reality they get irritated skin from the watch being fucking filthy), that's bordering on hysteria. Sometimes people refuse to buy all stainless steel (ie perfectly safe) watches because of muh metal allergy.

You know that feeling when you tell people you want to buy a grand seiko, but they tell you to invest in a watch from a better brand instead, like Oris. Or they tell you to get a seagull instead, cause its also an asian brand and its much cheaper, and has day-date-month and moonphase instead of just a datewheel.

I'm a NEET with some spare cash should I get a sub? Maybe having a Rolex would motivate me to do better.
>>
>>59573591
Here are the simple facts: Nomos are literally the first new company to develop the capacity to design and manufacture mechanical movements including escapements on a series production basis since the 1960s. They join Vostok, Orient, Citizen, Seiko, ETA and Rolex as the only non haute horlogerie companies capable of this.

Developing this capability took a several year and ~12 million Euro investment in escapements and a further ~2 million Euro investment in designing the ultra-thin DUW 3001 calibre. These are enormous investments from a company with an annual sales volume of 10,000 - 20,000 units, and as a result must necessarily be reflected in increased unit prices.

In an affordable luxury watch market heavily dominated by Chinese-cased ETA-powered marketing-driven shitters, any watchmaker that makes the investments required to become a manufacture and actually increase the technical diversity of series produced mechanical movements should be applauded no matter whether you like the aesthetics of their product line. To the extent that Nomos succeeds by following this path, it may serve to encourage more investment in the technical aspects of watchmaking by other companies rather than just investing in more value engineering (i.e. cost-cutting) and more advertising.

Just in the last 10 years we have gone from a $1,000-$4,000 market where every single watch was powered by an ETA movement to one where you can now choose between ETA, Tudor, Nomos, and Seiko (8rXXs, 8LXXs). How can this development be regarded as bad for people interested in horology, regardless of whether you would personally buy any of those watches yourself? If only Miyota and Seiko would add micro-adjuster models to their ebauche offerings and Tudor would begin to use their in-house movement in more models, we could return to an era of real competition in movements in production watches not seen since the glory days of the 1970s.
>>
>>59573749

They should start selling their movements to someone who will design something attractive to put them in.

some newcomer with blandest nazi-era designs shouldn't be charging Rolex prices. they got popular for being a good value and now they think they're haute horology despite showing up barely a decade ago? >>
>>59573715

If you want to start working, you should invest in tools and/or training instead of buying a high-end watch. Maybe you want to work as a diver; if so, then you should choose a more modest dive watch to leave more for your other diving equipment.

If you don't want to start working, you should save your money and make some low-risk investments with it.

I don't see a reasonable scenario where someone without economically meaningful income should buy a Rolex.

>A company with a unit volume of 10,000-20,000 units per year invests 12 million Euros into developing the capacity to produce their own escapements
>Plus millions more designing new movement
Gee I wonder why their prices went up? It really sets the noggin joggin.
>>

>mutual fund which I intend to dip into for a watch
Don't do that, numbnuts
>>
>>59573967
barely anyone makes a handwind only dresswatch with no date affordably these days.

Seiko and Orient throw a fucking date aperture on anything because their movements have datewheels and it would cost more to change the production or take it off.

its my money, I'll burn it if I want

8R is the triple vertical clutch chronographs

8L is the base that doesn't get the full Grand Seiko treatment of the 9S.

I hope you've got this saved somewhere so you're not typing it out every other thread

>engagement ring
at least a watch pretends to hold value. Diamonds are literally throwing away money.
>>
>>59573961
Don't get the most expensive watch you can. Get a nice-ish watch that leaves you with most of the money.
>>
>>59574062
Yeah, I have it saved so I don't have to explain it every time some clueless horological pleb starts badmouthing one of the only production watchmakers even TRYING to innovate anymore.
>>
>>59574045
thank, you I knew I didn't get the numbers exactly right
>>
>>59574107
You should start doing like ninegag and not spoonfeed horology to shitheads.
>>
>>59574098
thats what I intend, if I want to spend 5k or more I will probably only take a portion from the fund and save for the rest
>>
>I want the silliest mechanical watch imaginable

>>59574146
Sounds like you know what you're doing.
Do you have an idea of the watch you would get?
>>
>>59574279
Hey it's that Tissot chronograph

Rolex is entry level, still maybe I can buy it as a reward for starting school or something. After all the first step is the hardest.

Maybe you should actually achieve something in your life before spending daddy's cash on a Rolex.

Oops. Anyway, clearly the same watch.

I'm still pissed about this. someone agree with me.

62mas reissue asking nearly $4k as well is also complete faggotry. Didn't the original go for $200 or something.

fucking greedy faggots
>>
>>59574528
The 62mas reissue is using an undecorated GS movement at least.

Are there any other movements that do what the Glashütte 58-01 does?
>stops the seconds hand when you pull out the crown
>resets seconds to 0
>minute hand moves to the next full minute
>turning the crown makes the minute hand jump from one full minute to the next
I'm not someone who drools over Grande Complications but this is fucking neat.

I think I told you last time you posted about this, theres an Fp journe with a double balance wheel that does a reset on the seconds hands.
That GO is neat though

Holy shit that's awesome.

30k god damn.

On the upper end (for my first watch) I am interested in a Datejust or JLC master control as an everyday watch suitable for dress or work.

for a bit less money I like the Sinn 104 or speedmaster reduced.
>>
>>59574774
unique complications? unique complications.

I actually love the idea of this true seconds mechanical. I don't care if the snobs whine about "it looks like a quartz reeeeee"

>>
>>59573414
wait is it really? good to know anon, thanks
>>
>>59574991
JLC is calling it "true seconds" for their watch, but if you're interested in finding other watches with the same complication it's called deadbeat seconds.
>>
>>59573523
whats the minimum I need to spend?

At least double that, but tell us which Seiko 5 first.

Cool.
The world time thing where you can set the hours without moving the minutes would irritate my autism though. Couldn't handle having slightly offset minutes and hours.

Are there more watches like the Omega Chronostop that have a single seconds hand (no sub dials) but can be used as a stop watch?

some do.
>>
I found one:
Seiko 5719
Too bad it's super rare.
>>
>>59575559
>>59575603
I actually am gonna sell it sometime soon senpai. I wanna service it first though, might be a while.
>>
>>59575603
It's really not useful, that's the problem. A chrono that counts only to 60 seconds has very limited use.
A chrono with a single subdial (minute register), or two central chrono hands (seconds and minutes) is much better.
But I do love a chrono with no running seconds.
>>
>>59575725
>servicing a rare vintage chronograph
Sounds expensive.
>>
>>59575912
Yeah I can see that.
It's so cool though and as a bonus it makes it really convenient to set the seconds accurately.
>>
>>59575136
Oris just released one this baselworld.
>>
>>59576160
We already had this discussion. I was actually the one who started it.
The Chronoris doesn't have a chronograph function but a rotating bezel.
