Why the hell is reddit of all websites trying to get into the competition clusterfuck that is several social media companies aggregating similar features in hopes that one is better than all?

idk it just seems like reddit has gone off the fucking deep end here. /g/ might actually get some traffic soon tho
>>
are they trying to turn it into twitter
>>
>>59519072
I think possibly? I'm honestly not sure; but either way seeing a website go from being somewhat anonymous in its nature of communities to creating notable profiles for everyone.

This seems like a complete reversal. What if 4chins could go the same way? Not that I think it would, but I always thought reddit was at least somewhat of a safe haven for autism

Reason I am here.
>>
Couldn't you just make a subreddit about your identity and moderate it with an iron fist ala facebook? You need to shitpost you do it on 4chan or on a different handle.

Or are they counting on the power of epic upboats to gain converts to their cause? I'm not sure I understand the ramifications of this move.

reddit karma is a really weird commodity because you're supposed to fiercely compete for it yet you're not supposed to take pride in accruing large amounts of it and after a certain amount people will look down on you for it
>>
>>59519143

at this point i'm no longer surprised about how desire for more money through exploitation of the user base changes websites. There are already ads galore here so I wouldn't be surprised if something similar here happened just so 4chan could stay relevant and "competitive." tho that's complete normie talk and I think we're incapable of that.

Fuck you reddit
>>
>>59519175
Anon, we don't have a profile to post. Also, this will demand money from Hiro and the last thing he wants do is spend money on the site.
>>

Of course

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxNvUWN3vYk
>>
>>59519269
not directly but there's probably communities of people who upvote stuff for you or w/e

i don't see why you would, if you want a lot of karma then

>go on /b/
>save a bunch of porn picures
>post a few on a bunch of popular porn subs
>get thousands of karma
>delete the posts once you have enough
>karma stays on an account even once posts are deleted, so no one will know your porn history

alternatively just go on twitter and grab some screencaps of people making fun of donald trump and you'll be on the front page indefinitely
>>
>>59519258
and hiro isn't a normie himself so I am hoping that he will continue to keep 4chan in this state.

>>59519269
unfortunately yes, which was one of the reasons to leave the site in the first place. Nothing there is upvoted genuinely anyway. It's all pushed by bots and shills with a desire for ad revenue running the place.
>>
>>59519163
I guess they just got sick of the fact that karma isn't a currency that makes any money.
>>
>>59519278

Hey guys! Reddit Admin here, I think that Reddit has been doing great and the choice to finally give users the ability to use their own accounts as a profile for everyone to see is a truly innovative idea. We will finally be giving the users themselves the ability to have full control over their own content! Just ask any one of the major content creators, they'll let you know that their favorite choice of delivery services for their project tools is Amazon Prime©. So we're going to give you a free 2% prime membership off with every 10K karma you get on your profile. We hope this brings a much needed change to the world!

Overall it seems that this may be a good move for 4chan. While 4chan has been the haven for some alt-right and less politically correct folk, I think even here will be invaded more by those turned off by the new reddit policies.

subs like /g/ will probably thrive with more than 5 people jerking each other off about arch for once.

idk about /pol/ though, I think they're going to go full autistic screeching over this when the effects start.

Probably before the end of the decade. Or, at the very latest, 2022. The company itself will still exist, but no one of value will still be using it.

>UX is shit
>invasive ad tracking
>allegations of favoritism in News Feed
>advertising metrics aren't trustworthy
>comments, once the hallmark feature, are now overrun with paid shills and boomers screaming at each other from their armchairs
>only reasons for staying are groups and event discovery, with groups quickly being disrupted by meetup and in-person meetings
>event discovery easy to disrupt once someone decides to compete against Ticketmaster
Facebook is literally one massive fuckup away from losing thousands of users.

>b-but that's already happening
It could very well be happening, and they've been falsifying the numbers. But, again, the SEC will rip their assholes wide open if they so much as even cough in the wrong direction. So, if they were to defraud their investors by falsifying data, they'd really be fucking up (possible prison sentence).

Exactly. Most of the people I've met over the years still have accounts but are not active at all on them. Roughly 2/3 of the last year's photos on their profiles were tagged by older family members.

I still have an account but I only usually use Messenger or the Events section these days. Again, once someone has a viable alternative to Ticketmaster, I can see a mass exodus happening. Until then, people will just keep leaving in trickles.

Artists have been trying to look for a site that allows all kinds of art, has a decent comment and gallery system and a profile that shows your information.
Twitter and tumblr aren't really good art galleries, but a metric fuckton of people use them. I think people's main gripe is that you can get banned from both a bit too easily.
If reddit turns out to allow all kinds of content, as in if you want to draw 12 old amputee getting fucked by a dog and they allow it, then it's most likely going to become the mecca for porn artists to gather in.

Just because a new feature on reddit directly goes against the anonymous nature of 4chan, does not mean that people will 'leave reddit' and come here. If anything. It will ensure more user retention and engagement.

I think its a great idea for reddit. It will keep the cunts there instead of shitting up our boards every summer.

Highly underrated

A denial of funds attack is much better. Increasing the costs via large uploads / downloads doesn't have the obvious impact of a ddos but I think it's a reasonable form of process.
Ddos has been reframed by the media as a kind of vandalism and an offence against a countries computer crimes act. Though I think it should be designated as a legitimate form of protest.
Using a large amount of bandwidth and storage without denying other users access but increasing the burden of cost and not countering that with gained revenue is much more subversive.
Plus it can have the bonus of normalising you home bandwidth use.

Reddit is an online incarnation the liberal nu-male normie which is an antithesis to the contrarian NEET autism of 4chan.
We will tell you the truth how we actually see it, not through polite self-censorship to garner le upboats. Reddit is by its very nature of being pseudonymous and gamified promotes groupthink and conformation. 4chan by virtue of being anonymous means getting unfiltered opinions, harassment, and being able to harass. You will hardly ever see a negative opinion on reddit because it will be hidden by mass downvoting, on 4chan you are forced to see criticism which thereby makes this site amicable to contrarian counter-cultures.

Magnetic media in general can last like almost indefinitely as long as its stored in a safe place where it wont get fucked up by magnetism. reddit has terrible organization. Because of how anyone can create their own board and not all of the boards are always visible there's not always an easy way to find new postings from any particular subject without resorting to the search function. If it was a flat hierarchy and instead all the posts were assigned tags based on their subject and you could filter the tags out based on what you want or don't want to see then it would eliminate that huge clusterfuck. That's how pretty much any other site works these days. Twitter and facebook do that basically although you can still subscribe to particular feeds. Even the *booru sites organize posts by tags.

When I first came to 4chan a long time ago I felt the site was unintuitive and immediately left because I could not figure out what I was supposed to do.

I came back, and eventually came to like it as one of my favorite formats.

When I first went to Reddit to see what all the shit posting was about, I felt the same thing.

I never really ended up liking it, but that's because I feel it and 4chan try to accomplish very different goals.

For example, I do not browse Reddit because it doesn't seem very good at that, but if I want people's opinions on a specific topic, I can google "Topic blablaba Reddit" and people might have had a decent discussion about it in the past. With 4chan, searching archives is shit and asking a question will probably not get you any answers, so that's where Reddit is useful.

As a general "I browse and talk to people though" I gave Reddit a chance, once, and hated it even after I got used to it.

That is basically what I understood about the difference between the two and I appreciate you explaining the difference. But my question is more about the Redditor, not the site itself. The concern here is that Reddit users will come here. I am not sure I get why that and of itself is a horrible thing. Either one of two things will happen, either they will see 4chan for having the harsh criticism it has and adapt, or they will find a new place to go that fits their need for a safe space. As stated, 4chan doesn't have upvoting or any way to create a group minded opinion. That also means they are powerless and unable to change the site with their presence, thus it is illogical to be concerned about 4chan changing due to the arrival of these new people. So why is the Redditor unwelcome here if they migrate?

I find it funny you mention liberal. We had a political thread a little bit back. Before it was deleted, it was shown that /g/ was made up of many liberal individuals. Indeed, those republican often seem to be told to go back to /pol/. Outside of that space, I see plenty of varying levels of beliefs, but on /g/ there are plenty of liberals which falls more in line with the socialist views of Linux versus the capitalist and authoritarian Windows.

I guess that also makes me question the nu-male part of it. Perhaps I just don't see on a technical board how that gets brought up. I know other boards here are against SJWs, but I don't see anything on /g/ that could be deemed offensive by anyone (perhaps this is due to my mindset, I have zero idea what special snowflakes get upset by and feel anything I say will result in them freaking out).

NEET is a term that confuses me often. If this was /r9k/ it might make sense, but I often hear that this is a place of server administrators and other highly technical employed individuals. How can that be a NEET?

I hear autism being used frequently here for sure. However, the conditions are too vague.

>karma isn't a currency that makes any money.
this is actually a thing. The reason why like 95+% of posts are reposts is because people write bots to repost and farm karma.

High karma accounts have more leniency when it comes to the spam filter, posts are quickly shown higher and comments are not as quickly shadow-hidden even if they are controversial.

It is already proven that political organizations and companies bought large numbers of these accounts to influence the online discussion and hide/promote certain news articles.
>>
>>59528196
They kinda made it a little better, they at least have a way to view duplicate postings now but it's still a waste of time, you might as well just merge all the posts into one so you don't have to view separate discussions in the first place. Reddit is poorly designed. I think the original format of the site had a few strict categories similar to digg but at some point they let people make their own which ruined the structuring of the site
>>

it's already halfway dead. Only boomers really use it anymore to post stupid birthday card pictures to their nephews etc. your feed is 99% advertisements that others liked (large pages post a soccer video, someone likes it, instantly on your feed instead of your HS friend who got married).

Very few people actually still use FB. Sure they have an account but even the IM which is 90% of why people used it to begins with was intentionally blocked on mobile (unless you download the 300MB battery-slurping app. Oh wait they REMOVED MESSAGING FROM THAT TOO and made another 300MB app).

FB is dead. I already deleted it and unlike 2 years ago I don't miss out on party invitations because most of my good friends don't use it either

>socialist views of Linux
Linux is a capitalist model, since capitalism deals with value judgement not strictly monetary transactions.
>I guess that also makes me question the nu-male part of it. Perhaps I just don't see on a technical board how that gets brought up. I
people don't just eclectically pick and choose their personality, certain aspects of behavior are tied together. If someone is a nu-male they are likely cancerous in many other respects. How retarded do you have to be not to understand this fact? The very fact you have to ask this sort of question means you don't belong here.
>How can that be a NEET?
/g/ is mostly autistic NEETs larping as employed IT professionals
>I hear autism being used frequently here for sure. However, the conditions are too vague.
If you can't into our language and culture then you need to leave.

How do you even navigate Reddit? It's like trying to follow a conversation in Youtube comments.

I haven't tried though I must say. I'm fine with nhentai for the little hentai I read, but it triggers me when people link to it for sources and not post the title instead/too.
>>
>>59529109
I'll let you in on a secret.
Nhentai is better in almost every single way. The only reason people use exhentai is because there are some doujinshi not available anywhere else, and also just for muh sekret club.

Why is it so easy to trigger /pol/
>>
>>59529252
Because responding to libtard's idiocy gives us a platform to propogandize

They hired a whole bunch of people. The site was relatively the same for years because there were only a few people working on it. Now there are well over 100 and most are creative types. Almost none of their staff are actual developers, and those that are developers are told what to implement by people that don't understand what the users actually want because a lot of them didn't even begin using the site until shortly prior to working there. Those people work jobs of virtually no value, but they need to seem like they have value to keep their job. So they come up with ideas for features that nobody wants, but they can at least convince management will be beneficial. Then at their yearly reviews they can point to that feature as a thing they were responsible for. And if the feature flops they just don't mention it anymore and keep riding on the unwanted feature train.
>>
>if 4chan had profiles you could block all the shills on /g/
ups and downs I guess

Live chat happened for April Fools last year and it was fucking amazing. They only keep shitty features though so they pulled the plug on it.

>The fact that plebbitors can enjoy plebbit means I don't want them here.
I just see them as being able to assimilate. Terry used to be an atheist. You can change your ways.
>The liberals are all shills here and need to be gassed.
I wonder if they are leaking from /v/. Wouldn't surprise me, what better to do when on welfare checks than play games all day.
>an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.
Doesn't sound like capitalism. Linux is not for profit and there is no real private owner, it is more the model of everyone sharing everything for free.
>If someone is a nu-male they are likely cancerous in many other respects.
Fair enough. I avoid them and live around people that heavily support white pride and men's rights. I am rather unsure how they behave.
>/g/ is mostly autistic NEETs larping as employed IT professionals
Regardless, /g/ is the most knowledgeable site on technology. Every other frequently updated site is retarded and says to go to Windows 10.
>If you can't into our language and culture then you need to leave.
Autism is a man-made device by the government to make us think we are messed up. Who doesn't have a passion? If you don't, you got ADHD.

Anon, you must be retarded. The only thing wrong with Something Awful is the premium accounts and unstable desire of admins to ban their users.

death to digg cancer 2.0
>>
I have no issues with that cancerous site committing suicide, but first there should be a viable alternative for their scum userbase to migrate to.

When digg died there was reddit to absorb their crowd.
Unfortunately there's no place for them to migrate now and some of them might end up here.

>>59529824
Screaming about anime? 4chan is an anime board...
>>
>>59529665
I hate IDs, but /g/ really needs them.
>>
>>59529940
that's exactly it, you can easily identify who belongs where if they scream and screech against anime
4chan is the bridgehead of the japanese on western internet in the eternal culture war, way too many faggots got their scanlation and fan translating shit started here

This is the best idea I've seen in this thread, but I'm not really sure how we would actually put this in place.
Getting around the sadpanda requires creation of an account, and we can't have anything like that for 4chan.

Which is hilarious because r/the_donald is probably the most censored political subreddit on the site. If you say anything not positive, even if it's just indifference, you get banned right away.

to be honest I don't blame the donald for banning people at the drop of a hat. they no doubt have a no end of paid and unpaid shills trying to weasel their way into the sub. it's clear the entire website is against them, the admins would love to shut it down but they haven't had a good enough excuse yet, which false flaggers are more than happy to provide for them.

It seems to be for brands and sponsors. They're doing it for money, but what these companies don't think about is that it will hurt them in the end.

Digg was once thought to be unstoppable. Until they didn't listen and changed things. MySpace was massive until they were destroyed. Sure not all of them fell the same way, but it goes to show that anyone on the top can fall. Not saying that Reddit doesn't know what it's doing or that it will just collapse, but you have to be aware that it is a possibility. It's more of a possibility when you don't listen to the community and focus on money first. Afterall, what's a social media platform without the userbase?

I love Reddit's idea and how the design is, but the people that use it and especially the people that run it are awful. Might be a good thing if it all just collapses. The owner tried to abandon ship and said that there is no hope in Reddit but came running back. I don't trust someone like that. Clearly you can tell the motivation is monetary. It's alright to make money but they're just shooting themselves in the foot at this point.

>>59530919
That's one thing I really hate about Reddit. I wish they could be neutral. I understand all websites owners have a bias and care about profit. Reddit does what it does with profit in mind, they don't actually care about "safety" or whatever they call it. They all do. As soon as they get bad publicity they instantly get to work, but don't actually do anything after it blows over.

There has to be a balance, however. This website is too cringey and edgy for me that it just comes off as manchildren trying way too hard to be funny when the joke ended long ago, you know? But Reddit is too fake nice and libtard-ish. Sure, we should be nice to each other but you can't just ban things you don't like because it hurts your feelings. Then again, Reddit shilled for Bernie for a long time so they're mad about that. https://www.reddit.com/r/all/top/?sort=top&t=all

>Reddit is full of lefty's

No reddit is full of swingers who only believe what the biggest shit poster is telling them.

After /pol/ had their way with the voting system on the Donald, they genuinely got a bunch of reddit.

And reddit tend to flock to the majority consensus because of their circlejerk huvemind system.

At least here you can openly argue and dissent.

It's a cesspit with no semblance of free speech, infested with social justice warriors, and their jokes are terrible too. If there is anywhere that is worse off than /b/, it's BYOB and FYAD. And now GBS too, since they turned that into FYAD-lite too. SHSC, CoC, and DIY are just filled with stale, decade-old generals. Seriously, most of the threads there were created at least five years ago, it's ridiculous. This is all on top of how ban-happy the moderators are there.

The thing that bothers me the most about redditors and consequently reddit is the fact that pretty much all users use exclamation marks.

It triggers my autism. You're on the Internet. You don't have to use exclamation marks. Especially when you're typing something with a - I hope and assume - straight face.

And it's mostly populated with retarded people but whatever, that's common standard.
