Other than the Ubuntu tablet they released a while ago, is there anyway to do it without a ton of driver incompatibilities and fucking around with hacky fixes that don't really work?
I recently used a Windows tablet and liked the experience of using a more desktop orientated OS on a tablet compared to Android but don't want anything to do with Windows.

Bump for interest

kde phone
There isn't much thing. I know that kde wanted to take ubuntu touch, take out mir and release kde plasma for phone with wayland.
But there aren't a lot of project for smartphone and tablets since no one really cares. A linux distribution wouldn't add much value to the current market and would just make devs loose their time since no one would use it

All I want is a better more open OS similar to android (ie can install from apk) and has a proper terminal and whatnot

Android is Linux dumbass.
I know that Arch runs well on the Surface Pro 3 and the Asus T300 Chi. There were more I think. Just check their Wiki.
