I have an old PC case that has a Windows 7 sticker on it with serial number. I don't have the mobo.

Can I use this serial number on a new PC and can I install Windows 7 on it without any licensing issues? How should I go about it?

For windows 7, easiest solution is Daz's Windows Loader, look for the one with the checksum 323c0fd51071400b51eedb1be90a8188. This only works if you are using MBR partition tables/legacy bios. Not uefi/gpt.

A google search for that should find you the legit version, don't download it from a scam site, and check the checksum after you download.

My laptop fan is making a ton of noise and sometimes it feels it's almost stuck, barely running.

Temp is ok... as long as i don't do anything too heavy ressources wise, but sometimes if the graphic card is involved (same heat sink), it goes up and up (90+ °C, proc) until the fan randomly starts blowing faster, or until i quit what i'm doing.

Dust isn't the issue, i've openned my laptop and cleaned what was there (almost nothing), i assumed the issue was coming from the fan needing some lube and i used what is displayed on the picture (not the Lion).

Since then, temperature is more manageable although same problem happens, and it can be even noiser than it was before when it's running.

I was wondering if i should use silicon grease rather than WD-40 ? Should WD-40 be enough ?
>>
>>59501135

You'll have to replace the fan. Try silicon grease to extend the existing fan's life. Don't use WD-40. WD is meant to evaporate and when it does you'll be in an even worse situation.

Honeyview is a good one. I think the latest version is Honeyview 3.

>You'll have to replace the fan.

Problem is that i'm using a Samsung Q310 :
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Q310-34G-13-3-Inch-Centrino-Processor/dp/B001I45TAI

Changing the fan would be silly even i could find a replacement.

I would buy a new laptop but i can't find something "good" below $1200 (in Europe), while i paid $800 for the samsung (which was quite good in 2008).

At the same time i'm looking to build a new ITX desktop config, but i'm considering Ryzen too and ITX board aren't out yet, and it that regard spending $1200 on a laptop would be stupid, it's the cost of a decent monitor these days.

So i'm a bit stuck, i probably am going to try the grease then, thanks for answer.

How can I trace a route on a map on Android, from a list of street names (which should be in the route)?

I've just setted up a little LAMP webserver and I ran some tests to see if everything was working dandy before thinking in getting a domain name.

I can access it just fine from any computer at my workplace, local IP and external ipv6. which obviously is expected.

Then I tried to access it from elsewhere, but it couldn't find my server.

After that I tried one of those millions of ping/traceroute websites from other countries and surprisingly they all can connect.

What the fuck is going on? Why it doesn't work within my country but it does just fine from other countries?

You can't modify a string literal.
Change that line to

I know you would usually use start[i] but we aren't allowed to in the assignment in order to get used to the idea of pointers

Thanks for your help
>>
>>59502124
char *test = "Test"
is is the problem. Change it to
char test[] = "Test"
and your code will work as intended.

Explanation: Arrays are always modifiable. The second statement declares an array of chars called "test", and initializes its value to {'T', 'e', 's', 't', '\0'}. The first statement is not something you want to do: it gives you a pointer to char called "test", and makes it point to a string constant "Test", which is going to reside in the read-only memory of the program. Attempting to modify this string gives undefined behavior.

All you need to do is edit your DNS settings. You don't need to install anything. You can even add those IPs in your router settings so the whole network connected will use it.

Unless you've had both, you wouldn't really understand. It's a lot of little bothersome things that cheap motherboards do that expensive ones don't. A big one for me after switching from a nice AM2 Gigabyte to a cheap as fuck AM4 Asus two weeks ago is the DAC. Both are realtek. Both do the same 5.1. The Asus is 7 or 8 years newer yet makes all my speakers pop at boot and the subwoofer crossover is pure shit. Pulse lets me configure that a little but in Windows using Realtek's drivers you may as well give up.

I installed Linux Mint earlier, but on my Windows 10 installation, the time is different, and the mouse no longer uses two finger scrolling.
Also, when I go into settings>devices>mouse and touchpad>advanced, I can't change the "DellTouchpad" settings. When I click the blue underlined text, my mouse gets the loading wheel, then the wheel vanishes, and no menu pops up. Why?

My car has a 30-pin/old iPod connector hooked up to the stereo, but I haven't owned an iPod in ages. I've tried looking for a 30-pin female to USB micro male adapter, but all of them are cheap chinkshit that only charge and don't sync audio, which is the entire reason to get the adapter in the first place.

Is there actually such a thing as a 30-pin to USB adapter that will let me listen to my music in the car?

Okay, I never come here for tech support but I'm going fucking insane with this weird issue. Sometimes when I stand up while wearing my headset (the cord is about 6 feet so I have more than enough slack to move around a bit), the sound cuts out, but not just that, it will immediately cause a media resource 'failed to decode' issue with my browser if I'm watching videos or streams which usually forces me to close and re open my tabs. I thought it might be something with the in-line stereo adjuster so I disabled it, still happens. I thought maybe I had a bad USB port so I've cycled through every single one on my rig and it still happens.

The thing is I can't manually replicate it, at all. I can swing the cord like a jump rope or attempt to do whatever motions I think I'm making when the disconnection is happening and it will never happen when I'm trying to make it happen. The headset is a ~4 month old Sennheiser. One other problem I've been having recently, my mouse randomly not being recognized and forcing me to reset (again, changing USB port or unplugging/replugging does nothing), makes me think it's a motherboard issue. But again, I've never seen anything like this.

What for?, making the fans spin harder on idle will dissipate more heat on your room, what you want its a very step fan curve to keep the heat inside your case.

Depending on the manufacturer you need to download the application to control your card, for example MSI uses AfterBurner while EVGA use Precision X.
>>
>>59505202
>it's a motherboard
I would probably guess that as well from your description, but I'm not certain.
If you have it available, try using your stuff on another computer for an extended period of time, and see if that fucks up. I can't really think of anything else to debug it though, without replacing (possibly expensive) computer parts.

>>
>>59505255
>I just want it to spin atleast give my gpu -2 on temps

Those 2C don't bother you inside your case but it will in your room.

Gigabyte uses Xtreme Engine, you can find it on their site, alternative you can use Riva tuner which it its practically the same thing all OEMs but without the shiny GUI.
>>
>>59505283
I should add, I was looking specifically for something that goes 30-pin female to USB micro male. I've seen a few things that are 30-pin female to 3.5mm audio plug, but I don't really need that because my car stereo has a 3.5mm audio plug, and I could just plug the phone directly into it. I wanted to try using the 30-pin connector so I could charge and play music at the same time.

Got an external hard drive I've had some problems with for months now, usually when I boot my computer I'd have to unplug and plug it back in to be recognized (though once recognized it would tend to stay recognized until I powered off the system completely) then today all of a sudden when I try to access it at all I hear kind of a swishing and low beeping ish sound and it dismounts, tried a few times and same thing happened. Is this most likely a problem with the enclosure and not the drive itself? Planning to pull it out and install it in my case but have to wait on a PCI card to add some more SATA slots since I'm all full up at the moment before I can test it.

Note that this is not the "click of death" sound, I made sure to go listen to what that sounds like and it's completely different from what I was getting. This sounded more like an electronic beep than a physical clicking.

However modern SSD (Samsung 8xx, kingston v300, Crucial Mx2xx) have passed the point in which you can kill them with regular use, you would need to keep them working 24/7 for years to wear them down. So if you have a modern SSD, use it.

I had to transfer some files from an NYC VPS to a different server in EU and it went relatively fast, I honestly can't remember the speed, it wasn't 1 gigabit/second but it wasn't anywhere near 1.5 megabits/second either. For the past little while, I've been getting windows popping up for a split second between the hours of 3:00am to 4:00am. I've ran multiple scans with different programs, and have checked installed programs and scheduled tasks, but can't seem to find what could be causing it. Anything else I can try to see what is causing it, as it's making me paranoid that I have an infection, despite multiple scans showing up as clean.

Hey /sqt/ kind of worried here, the other day I made a joking comment about a coworker's small penis after sneaking a peek at the urinals, and he kind of laughed it off, but now, a week later, I get an email saying I need to come in tomorrow to discuss accusations of possible sexual harassment at the workplace. How serious is this? Could I potentially get fired over it? I was just trying to have some friendly male-male banter here, I wasn't trying to hit on the guy for god's sake.

Any recommendations for what I should prepare for going into the meeting? Should I be honest, or just deny everything? Should I consider having a lawyer present, or would that send the wrong message?

Anyone ever done Backblaze restore by mail before? Do they always ship you a 4TB drive or will they send a smaller one if you are asking for less than 4TB of data? Yeah. I think my biggest pet peeve is the 16:9 resolution, but there are simply no options outside of extremely expensive monitors. I'd really like an iMac to be honest, but they're so damn expensive. Comparable monitors are like $800 by themselves... no way, José.
>>
>>59508903
Yeah, we're in 2017 and there's no indication of prices dropping for these resolutions most people should have. Most people are still stuck at 1080p or 1366x768 on laptops. I wouldn't say apple computers are overpriced as much as they just spend most of it on peripherals which includes the goddamn expensive screens.

Apple is still using the 4.1, that's why a lot of devs doesn't port their games to this system.

In Java regex, does
[abc] +

Mean any number of a, b or c followed by a space any number of times? Or does it just mean any number of spaces?

Does the + operate on the whole expression, or only the part it is next to?
>>
>>59509877
only the previous character/token/element

you can parenthesize "[abc] " to make it treat that subexpression as a whole

so
([abc] )+

I think you need some ?: stuff inside the parentheses to make them not treated as a group/capturing if you need to actually extract any matched results but that is an aside

[abc]* *

>does it just mean any number of spaces?
It means one charcter belonging to the set [abc] followed by one or more spaces.
In regex the following always applies:
+ means one or more of the previous token
* means any number of the previous token, including 0
spacebar is a perfectly valid token
