As for mice it depends what you're doing. If you like shooting games and you're shit at them, don't bother, if you're good at them and you care about maybe a percent or two extra accuracy, then google the competitive mouse by sensor list and buy what you think you need.

Otherwise get a nice combo for under 30 dollars because it just werks.

I've used the cheap Logitech keyboards (like Logitech K120) for the longest time and they "just work". Default layout, no bells and whisltes except for a few media keys. Cheap to replace when you spill something on them. I know a few people who use their $10 keyboards after years still.

Been using my 5€ mouse and my Advance keyboard which probably was like 15€ for a very long time now, but the mouse is dying, and although I like the keyboard it sometimes auto disconnect because the wire is damaged (same way earphones get messed up and you need to move the wires around to make them right).

I can't bring much to the table in terms of a new build or anything exciting.

What I have is a $1200 build from 2012 with upgrades to my case (an NZXT Phantom to the Be Quiet Silent Base 800), my GPU (a Radeon HD 7970 upgraded to a GTX 970), (8GB DDR3 upgraded to 16GB DDR3), and an i5 3570k upgraded to an i7 3770k.

I also added more SSDs and external hard drives but I'm pretty sure most anons upgrade that stuff often.

Yeah connecting 3+ monitors is easy. The 970 that I own has 3 display ports and a dvi. You can convert display port to anything so it's good for dp>dvi or dp>hdmi if you need those, but the audio doesn't come with dp>hdmi.

You can spread your multiple monitor resolution between monitors with your display driver.

It doesn't matter if it's AMD or Nvidia, you can have multiple screens register at a higher resolution. For example, two 1080p screens become one for a game. However, the border between both screens will be a distracting factor or even be in the way.

3 monitors is better but you need the horsepower of your PC to push those displays. If not it may not work well. And let's be honest here-- for a second.

Multiple monitor gaming is a meme for the most part. It's a lot like 3D gaming.

I have seen people use three portrait displays and game and it looks great. Unfortunately until they design monitors with virtually no bezel it is pointless really, at least in my opinion.

Well for me I had this setup when I had a super comfy recliner chair as my PC chair. If you have a normalfag pc chair that's pretty uncomfortable and hard, or it doesn't recline/swivel it will probably suck.

I also had this similar setup in a studio apartment but my bed was across from it, this made it really comfy for the ladies. Got laid a lot with that setup but it's really particular to your situation. Pic related, my kitchen was right next to the PC setup and the bathroom was down the hall. The PC was right in front of the bed.

This is the default setup. It's called "extended desktop," and it does just that: Extends your desktop to another monitor. With this you choose one monitor to be your primary monitor, which is where your fullscreen applications (games, etc.) will start up.

Can be done in a few different ways. The answer to the second question is both yes and no.
One way to achieve this, and probably the most common, is via a feature in your graphics driver. On Nvidia it's called Surround, whereas on AMD it's called Eyefinity. Both will configure your computer to register the monitors you choose as one, e.g. 3 1080p monitors will be seen as one 5760x1080 monitor by your OS and applications.

Another way to achieve this is with a piece of software called SoftTH. You install it as a directx hook for each game you want to use it on, which allows your games to run on all available monitors even if you have them set up as extended desktop in Windows, essentially doing the same as Eyefinity/Surround but on an application specific basis. This doesn't work with newer versions of DirectX, however. If I recall correctly, experimental support for DX11 is still in the works.

A third, and nowadays unnecessary, way to do it is with a Matrox Triplehead box. They were used back when graphics cards only supported 1 or 2 monitors, but they're no longer needed.

What should I replace? Monitor 2, mouse, and keyboard are quite old but they haven't died so I'm still using them.

I'm mostly playing Blizzard games, RTS games, and Conan Exiles(which looks insane) so I don't think I'll need a new graphics card, but sometimes I get freezes in Conan Exiles and I experience screen tearing quite often in Overwatch. I've been thinking about getting a screen with 144Hz instead of 60, but I don't know if that'll eliminate the issue about the screen tearing or not. Anyone computer smart who could give some advice?

Worth mentioning that monitor 1 has a vague purple tint instead of just grey, which is annoying mostly whenever I start the computer but after a few minutes it turns into grey. There are scenarios right now that justify over 1TB of RAM. It all depends on what you intend to do with it.

Just snagged an Acer 1440p 27in 144hz g sync monitor for 545. Refurbished but so far, minor Blb and no dead pixels. Only thing is that it will randomly black screen after like 10 mins. However when I hooked up my second monitor, it stopped doing this. Should I be worried?

This probably isn't the right spot for this. I just did a big upgrade. New cooling, motherboard, ram, case. I love it, it's incredible, so happy I went for it.

My question is about overclocking though. It's going to take me forever to find the optimal overclock if I do it the way I used to back in the c2d days. Change voltage or clock, boot, stress, and it might not crash for 7 hours. I did a quick and dirty overclock with my 6600k.
[email protected] peaking realistic load at 68c. Is there realistically anything else to gain here? I really need every bit of perf per core that I can get my primary game shows great scaling from it.

Next I have samsung b-die 3600 cl16 diims. Someone on the review said he got them to 3750@14-14-14-30 1.55v. Is a 150mhz and a 2cl reduction a signifficant increase?

i leave mine at factory specs which is supposed to be the most accurate. brightness at 35, contrast 50.

if you want the colors to be as physically accurate as possible you have to leave it at the 'Standard' preset. this is only really important if you do photo/video/texture work though. it's done this way to ensure that whatever you're looking at is going to look the same for most other people. as an artist the last thing you want is for your work to look perfect on your monitor but total shit on everyone elses. hence the standard.

for casual use or gaming / watching movies you should be fine changing the settings to personal preferences (can always revert to factory specs), it's not like you're suddenly going to miss out on anything.

it may feel a bit yellow tinted when you have lower brightness (it shipped with brightness at 50 but that blows my eyes out) even though it actually isn't.

I'm planning on buying an Asus PG348Q monitor and I'd like to be able to play games like Arma 3 and The Witcher 3 at max settings with at least a steady 60 fps (if possible, anyway. I have a feeling that big fps drops in Arma 3 are an inevitability). I don't spend much money so I have plenty to throw into this build; my budget is basically whatever it needs to be to get the performance I'm looking for.

From the research I've done, NVidia seems like the way to go for high-end systems. I'm not sure which card to go with. Based on the benchmarks I saw, the 1080 seems to stay around an average of 60fps in most games at 3440 x 1440, but the minimum fps dips down as low as 40 - 50 fps in some games. I've only seen the 1080ti's minimum fps drop below 60 in a few games. Would it be retarded to buy the 1080ti just to keep the fps from dropping below 60?

This whole Ryzen deal has me really confused. Back when I built my PC, Intel was a no-brainer for anybody wanting to play Arma because it's so CPU intensive. How would Ryzen stack up against Intel CPUs in Arma nowadays?

How do I figure out what kind of wattage my PSU needs to have? Is there some kind of rule for how much extra wattage it should have?

How much should I be spending on a motherboard and case? There are so many choices that I don't know what's overkill and what isn't.

With Ryzen you can get double the cores of Intel (and like 80-90% per-core performance) for the same price. In Arma specifically that's a huge deal, but in most games it doesn't help out at all. Still, 60fps is not that demanding and you don't need 5GHz clocks for 60fps (the extra cores also usually means a better minimum fps compared to Intel)
4K ultrashort at 60fps isn't insane, but I would still recommend a 1080 or above. I have a 1070 and some games (witcher with hairworks) drops down to 60fps at 2560x1440, I'm sure the extra pixels would push it below 60fps
If you're only getting 59fps just fucking adjust a setting you noob, a 1080 would wreck that screen at "high" settings, it's just that benchmarks are made at max settings
You won't need more than 650w PSU, which luckily happens to be the most widespread and on-sale wattage around

Can HDMI send the signal to turn off/sleep a monitor when the computer goes idle/turns off?
I had an issue with my old Acer monitor where it wouldn't sleep but rather display "NO SIGNAL" instead.

I got a Dell S2716DGR new with a DisplayPort cable which I plug into an EVGA GTX980ti. With it installed I'm able to shut down the computer and have the monitor turn off automatically which is great. But my problem now is that when the computer goes idle and the monitor shuts off, I can't wake it up unless I restart the whole computer.

If DisplayPort was the only cord capable of sending the handshake signal to shut down the monitor, I don't want to go back to HDMI if its cable is incapable of doing this.

Damned if I do, damned if I don't. Fuck salt.

My old monitor which I forgot the brand, but it was connected via VGA, and it was able to turn itself off when I turn the computer off. And it would turn itself on when I turned the computer on.
My next monitor, an Acer H243H was connected via HDMI. It looked a lot nicer than trying through the VGA port which made everything look like a poor quality JPEG. BUT I noticed pretty much right away that when I turned off the computer, the monitor would remain on but remain black screen and display "NO SIGNAL"
I searched high and low and could only figure that the HDMI cable was not able to send the signal to from the pc to turn off. I should have tested it with a DVI port, but never did.
This new monitor (Dell S2716DGR) has the output for HDMI, but it came with a DisplayPort cable. After the Acer incident, I feel hesitant to use it becuase I now believe that HDMI cannot send the shutoff signal to the monitor.
But this monitor's problem is that it will turn itself off when the computer idles (instead of using a screensaver) which is GOOD, but it will not wake itself back up. At all. I have to restart the computer for it to reawaken.
So I'm back on the HDMI cable. And I'm not happy about it.

I was thinking on getting a modem/router now.

I know people usually talk about overclocking, but I need some help with underclocking. My FX8350 processor is running too hot for its own stock heatsink to keep it living under heavy load and it kills my entire rig when it eventually climbs into the high 80s.
It's base voltage is 1.3125 (V) and I tried lowering it to 1.1v and everything shut off before I had to do a restore.

So you're looking to do a wide 1440p type deal? For that I'd go for a 1080ti. A 1080 would probably do it but I'd want that extra cushion. If you waited for AMD Vega, that would likely be a viable option too, but we don't know that yet, and if you want to build now, the 1080ti is your best bet.

For CPU I'd recommend an AMD RyZen, probably a 1700 and do a mild OC, or, if you want to spend more, I ended up just buying an 1800X. Can't say I've used it yet but there is data out there to suggest comparable to Intel performance in a cheaper chip. Any R7 chip I think you would be happy with. An Intel 7700K would also be a good option from the Intel side, especially with overclocking. For AMD don't buy anything non-RyZen on the CPU front. The Vishera is a dead chip now and won't match well with your 1080ti. You'd probably be about equally happy with a 7700K or a RyZen chip, as the differences are minor now.

For board I would pick the highest end chipset for the respective CPU you buy, I would spend up to or around 200 bucks for a good Gigabyte or ASRock on the AMD side and for Intel ASUS and Gigabyte also seem to do well.

Wattage for a single 1080ti I'd feel safe with an 850. You could probably do less but remember a PSU is most efficient near 50% load Seasonic makes some good PSUs. I personally have an EVGA Supernova 1000 P2 and it is quite nice. Way overkill for my system but a nice PSU.

Cases, I'll always first recommend Fractal Design. An R5 (or similar ATX case, I think it's the Define C or S or something now maybe?) would suit that build well. I have an R2 XL bought in '13 I absolutely adore. Nanoxia seems to be another good case maker. Just find something you like the looks of. Good case makers I'd recommend checking out:
-Fractal Design
-Nanoxia
-Lian-Li
-Phanteks
-Corsair (IMO hit or miss on the lower end cases)
-Cooler Master makes some tanky cases but they're ugly IMO.

Anyone ITT have a Ryzen setup already? Is it stable enough to rely on for server use? Long story short,y current server is a mere pentium dual core and 4GB of ram. Even just the pentium is a 49w tdp. Meanwhile the Ryzen 1700 is doing 8c/16t at 65w tdp and can be set lower by adjusting the clock.

Is there anything I should know before pulling the trigger on a 1700/asrock taichi board and 32GB of ddr4? This is intended for server purposes only. (VMs, file, print, backup server) as well as a dedicated encoding machine. I intend to connect over the network via windows remote desktop. At the time I played alot of xbawx. I was using a monitor because my tv was crt. The crt shit itself and I bought this tv and switched over. During that same time, I quit playing games and watched netflix for about a year.

I got back on xbawx and was horrified to find out I sucked at games I use to excell at. I couldnt even pilot aircraft the (which I was rather good at). I just assumed that being offline took its toll on me. I was playing around with other displays a few weeks ago, this tv is suposed to be 120hz and the other monitor was running at 75hz. The mouse would run fin on the other monitor and when I moved over to the main monitor I was horrified to see a huge response time lag that I had just been use to for all of these years.
I can move the mouse and actually not see it move for a noticeable time (it just wasn't apparent to my young untrained eye.)

I beleive the "120 hz" bullshit is for cable only and hdmi is running at 30 or 60 hz

Was going to build another PC, but have decided to wait a bit more since I don't really play anything that is super demanding. Current is a g752 with a 6700HQ/980M and it seems to do fine with most things.

That being said, I'm looking to maybe get a nicer monitor since I don't think there's a point to building something with a 1080ti when all I have are 1080p 60hz screens. Recommendations? I really like the ultrawides but $1200 for a fucking 34" ips panel makes my dick hurt.

With that CPU quite possibly. Granted, the 1080 is a 1440p/4k card anyways so if you are using it for 1080p I doubt it will bottleneck that hard. Don't quote me on that though. I would personally look into upgrading to a mid range GPU instead of a high tier one instead. You might be able to upgrade your mobo/CPU with the extra money you would've spent on a 1080 anyways.

I know the old Corsair CX PSUs were pretty shit, so I don't completely trust anything with the CX branding. CS, HX, RM series seem to be good though, as is pretty much anything from Seasonic or Super Flower. EVGA normally rebrands Super Flower units so they're usually good too.

As for RAM prices, no one really knows. Whenever manufacturers start cranking up their production again.

And I've yet to see a stock cooler that doesn't fit in a standard mid-tower case. Even the big first-gen Wraith cooler will have no trouble fitting in a Core 1000/1100/1500.
