As an adult, in a solitary sort of career with a new baby, I've avoided smartphones for about a year after my Nexus 5 died. I traveled to Europe often and it was a great unlocked phone but the baby kept me home so I just used a burner since 2015.

Anyway, I got a new Galaxy S6 for cheap and need to set it up. Should I root it? I rooted my Nexus and used Cyanogen but I don't feel like wasting time now.

I just turned on my 5x for the first time in a few weeks since trying out the Honor 8.

The speed difference is going to make it hard to go back, but the lack of dev support on the Honor is a deal breaker.

In short, nothing really "works." No good, working ROMs for the Honor 8, no working recovery...it's a hassle to unlock the bootloader...I'm returning it.

I'm gonna miss the screen and speed of everything, but I think it's only solidified my choice of a pixel for my next phone

First time poster here, I am coming as a last resort because google can't fucking help me. About 3-4 hours ago I was taking my glaxy s7 out of ultra power savings to check something and it said something about how it couldn't load the homescreen or dock (something related to that) and when I tried to turn it off and turn it back on it now gets stuck on the Verizon screen. Every site says to do the same thing but even if I boot it in safe mode it still gets stuck (one site said to hold volume up instead of down, didn't work either). I own a Mi Max 128gb and it was totally worth the price difference (get the 32gb model desu, I just wanted overkill specs but the 650 is still fast af, I owned a Redmi note 3 Pro before this so I can testify to this)

There's decent custom rom support, if you install a marshmallow rom and xposed you can block YouTube ads and play videos in the background (listening to audio).

The phone is fast, cameras are better than redmeme note 3 Pro and the battery life is fantastic.

I owned the Honor 8 but returned it. Truth be told, there was a lot I liked about the phone:

But what got me to return it was the sheer lack of development. There exists a few, barely functioning ROMs for the thing, and I couldn't get SupeSu to flash on the unofficial (only recovery) TWRP.

I'm big into customization and things like that, plus am a stock android shill. I went back, regrettably, to my Nexus 5x.

As for the camera:
It's pretty decent! The 5x blows it out of the water, but for $280 or so, it's going to be one of the best cameras you can get, hands down.

For installing "stock" android, you're going to have to find a stock rom.

LineageOS offers stock with enhanced features. Check https://download.lineageos.org/ for your model. If it's not listed, you'll have to hunt down a stock ROM on XDA

It's up to the ROM whether or not your fingerprint scanner works.

In short, you're not going to get stock from Google, but from devs on XDA or LineageOS

My fellow wall jumper, 2600 MXN won't get you neither the X Screen nor the Moto G4 (4299 and up to 5000 MXN respectively, both uncucked ie not carrier locked), don't buy used unless it's an old flagship, it's simply not worth it.

The G Elite is basically a rebranded P8 Lite, it's dogshit and has no custom rom support, the phone got stuck on lollipop and EMUI is really bad.

Honor 4X is equally bad, but at least it doesn't look like an iphone ripoff and the battery is significantly bigger.

The G4 Play is your only real choice, assuming you're getting the 2/16 version it's a really good deal; third party support up the ass (as of today you have official AOSP EX, RR N, AOKP, LineageOS and Mokee), removable 2800 mAh battery, stock android and dual sim+sd slot, it's really cheap too (2400-3000 MXN, walmart usually sells them for as low as 2600, don't pay more than that for the phone).

If you don't mind getting an older phone then look into getting a used Galaxy S4 (2500 MXN), Galaxy S5 (3000 MXN), LG G2 (2800 MXN) or if the only G4 Play you can find is the 1/8 version a brand new Moto G2/G3 (G2 is 1800 on average, sometimes even cheaper, G3 costs the same as the G4 Play), visit your local fucked up neighbourhoods, you can usually find good phones at insane prices since they were stolen mere moments ago (get a known phone and throw away the sim card, then root+wipe+reflash), make sure you don't get them in a box, have the seller turn on the phone and leave with it on hand, if they refuse get the fuck out of there asap or you're gonna get robbed by his friends brayan and tayson.

Just fyi, the X Screen is a shit phone and the Moto G4 has a lot of hardware issues, not worth the money for a poorfag, i'd suggest the Moto G5 but a week ago i got an email from motorola and it retails for 5999 MXN, way too much for a low end phone considering it's barely a step up from the G4 Play.

Zuk Z2 is using the built in Qualcomm DAC. Decent camera though, much larger pixel size than most cameras in that price range.
