Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

I have a question about my battery and the price I paid for my x220. With the battery I get ~4 hours total. Is that normal?

The specs of the x220 is
i5-2410m
4gb of ram
500gb hdd
I paid ~$150USD and it came in an almost brand new condition.

Print a battery report with Windows

Aida64 will show wear level

But 4 hours looks about right.
>>

Is the battery 4 cells, 6, or 9? The 4 cell will be completely flush with the device, the 6 cell will protrude slightly underneath, and the 9 cell sticks out the back, providing a sturdy grip. Generally, the X220 gets around an hour per cell. You'll obviously see more or less depending on power settings and hardware configurations.

also the age of the battery (6ish years if original) should be considered. my 9-cell in my used x220 was at 60% capacity and gets 5-6 hours of web browsing, email, light stuff
