You've spent a little too much time browsing watch forums and memeing, my autistic friend. In the real world only hipsters and people who want a cheap reliable timepiece wear them.

In the other hand, only internet watch autists who would literally suck a dick for kudos and karma from their fellow WIS buy $3,500 non-hacking cam actuated chronographs.

I own a Lemania 5100 Speedmaster, I have no need for the inferior non-hacking 1861. If i wanted a MOTFM, I would only consider a 321 movement version.

And it's already a well known truism amongst people into watches that the MOTFM is pretty much the official watch of WUS/Reddit watch collectors and that you almost never see them outside of internet watch forums.

Don't get me wrong, I don't even hate the MOTFM, I just regard the pricetag is ludicrous for what you are getting.

Some people I know find the shape of the watch to be a bit weird for them because they have small wrists. >explaining how it came to be.
I have become so cynical of the how the things seem to go in the world

We lost nokia and all factories were moved to China and India. Then Microshit screwed us over and buttfucked us to the very end. You know, these older Nokia N-series and E-series was manufactured here in Salo.

Because of these events, I honestly couldn't care more, after all, everything is manufactured in China so it doesn't matter where I buy me electronics. I have also wondered the mentality of Russia people because they sure are interesting folk. They are not so precise about little things, as long as it works, its good.

This is why I have completely fell for this chinese meme and the desire to buy and use copies (I'll have to see about this because software is a copy).

This is just my shitty rant. Give it or take. Our only export is plain wood, paper, paper machines and logging machines. Jolla was a mistake and we waste money to stupid things such as coding buss in Afrika with our tax money, just because our country is 100 years old.

>More importantly: any other watch brands in your country other than that dude who moved to Switzerland?

No idea, because leijona watches are pieces of shit because they are manufactured in china, but I did found this

For most chronographs, yes, because the second hand for the chronograph function is not driven directly by the movement's gear train, but rather operates via an intermediary gear. It is difficult to make an indirectly driven chrono second had with no stutter at rest, and almost impossible under significant g-forces.

However, there have been chronograph movements with directly driven chrono seconds hands, such as the Lemania 5100, which are immune to these issues and will not have chrono stutter even under high g-forces.

if you're talking about a 7750 movement, no, it's not normal, in a normative sense. the movement is supposed to be adjusted so the chrono seconds hand sweeps like a normal 28800bph seconds hand, without jumping randomly. it is common to see these movements maladjusted in that way, though.

reminds me i need to look again for a watchmaker who can fix that on mine.

eta is going to stop selling ebauches in 2019. what does this mean for the watchmaking industry at large? who even buys and customizes their ebauches? every other watch i see is using a bone-stock 2824, and i heard that finished movements will still be sold, so maybe this means nothing.

would it be too much to hope that they start developing new movements again, now that they can actually make improvements without giving those improvements away to all of their competitors? i'm tired of all this ancient rehashed shit from the mid 20th century, especially since the 2824 has a well-known hand winding flaw which means causes them to eat themselves alive if you don't baby the shit out of them.

in the worst case, it just means more shitty 2824 clones instead of legit 2824s.

Yes. It would. The Swatch Group believes that the physical objects they make exist only to hang marketing messages off of, and should be produced at the lowest possible cost to maximize margins.

They are not suddenly going to start investing in movement design again except to crank up the value engineering.
>>
> some people are saying because the seiko alpinist inner bezel doesn't have clicks when it rotates it can rotate by itself if the crown rubs against your skin

Literally why the fuck did seiko make that design decision?

For a start it's supposed to be a watch you can use for orienting so having a bezel that can move by itself means it's useless for this.

Secondly a misaligned bezel is annoying to look at especially if it misaligns itself.

Well under 1k seiko tends to make some of the best stuff. Both Tissot and Mido have chronometers under 1k now though they used to be harder to find under 1k usd. And above that it opens up more.

Really where most people who want a nice watch should be looking is vintage, but the vintage watch world is large, confusing and has traps. It's a little easier to just pick out your favorite Seiko under 1k and just buy it because it's going to be good pretty much guaranteed.

>>
>>59209210

As far as I know the pro diver is the cheapest watch on the market with the NH35 movement.

NH35 is what Seiko call the 4R36 movement when it's used by a 3rd party. Correct me if I'm wrong but Seiko don't even offer a 4R36 watch for as cheap as Invicta do.

I paid $80 for mine, and seikos at that price point are no hacking and no handwinding while the invicta does both.

Are those movements not regulated as well as the 4R36's Seiko uses?

Is the mememaster REALLY worth the money it sells for?

I've looked at photos of it (that aren't photoshopped pictures by Omega for marketing) and it doesn't look that high quality. It looks nice, but so does any watch over a few hundred dollars. The bracelet or case isn't as brushed or as bevelled as other luxury watches like the Grand Seiko.

The only thing that seems to set it apart as a high end watch is quality control, but even that is dodgy sometimes (http://forums.watchuseek.com/f20/speedmaster-professional-poor-quality-my-experience-buying-new-988086-2.html). And that fact that Omega will suck your dick to put it right if you have an issue with it.

So really the reason it seems the speedmaster is so expensive is that they have to throw away so many that come off the assembly line broken.
>>

QC and after sale service is literally the only thing that separates a (mass produced) luxury swiss watch from a Chinese watch.

China has the exact same technical ability but they don't quality check as well, and the after sale service is "fuck you round eye".
>>
>>59209493
I mainly mean the man on the meme.

I've been reading about the issues it has and the main answer seems to be "The design is unchanged since the 50s what do you expect!"

I'd expect to have a completely faultless watch for $5,000
>>
How does /wt/ feel about Panerai?
>>

>>
>>59209612

>>
>>59209623
I'd accept faults in a watch, at a lower price point.

With all the problems that the man on the moon has it seems like it should cost $500 at most and the rest of the price is marketing hype.

It's not an innovative or hard to manufacture design.
There are quality control issues
Jumping or Stuttering chrono hands are classed as "normal"
+15 seconds a day is considered within spec

This isn't the description of a $5,000 luxury watch.
>>
>>59208877
whats that?
>>
>>59209612
Pawn shops or watch dealers wont except them without full papers, receipts and boxes. They're such low quality designs that they're incredibly easy to fake.

A Rolex is built to a certain quality where a fake can easily be identified. A Panerai fake can't easily be identified the same way as a real Panerai isn't any better quality than a chink fake.

I mean I wouldn't spend more than 2500 on a speedmaster myself, There are better watches to spend more than that on.

You may be shit out of luck because most mechanical chronographs are going to stutter. There are exceptions that you will have to find

There's an inherent flaw in the design of a lot of mechanical chronographs that cause stuttering, but it can be solved with proper adjustment.

For $5,000 I'd expect Omega to do this.

regulating watches is baby tier though, just open the caseback and move the balance spring lengthening thing
>>
>>59209797
Surely it's not that easy or everyone would be regulating their chinese watches to +1/-1

you should shift your expectations away from Swatch Group if you think they are going to spend extra QC to fix an issue that most of their customers don't care about.

Ali Express are selling Daniel Wellington "homages" for $15 that like exactly the same as the real thing. They're probably even made in the same factory.

What are some good looking field watch/military/chrono citizen eco drives? I'm looking for those ones with matte black cases and sort of chronograph styled though I don't really care about chrono functionality, I just want big and flat

I admit that I bought my invicta 8926 as an impulse buy and my first ever watch, but I'm convinced that for the money it's a pretty nice watch.

But the stigma that invicta carries with it puts me off it.

I'm considering ordering a dagaz dial just to get rid of the logo.
>>
>>59209808
I don't have any training in watchmaking and I regulated my snk809 from +15 to about +4 spd with 10$ chinese tools. You only have to be careful not to hit the balance spring or you'll fuck up your watch. That is unless you have beat error, then you need a timegrapher
>>
>>59209911
Wont it full out of regulation though?

I've also regulated a 50 year old piece of shit with 10 minutes of prodding to within 10 seconds a day. When it was minutes out a day.

But surely it can't be that easy or it means chronometer certification is one giant meme.
>>
>>59209885
That's the only one worth anything, but yeah the fact that they plastered the logo all over really sucks, my biggest issue is the seconds hand, desu
>>
>>59209959
Every movement has potential to which it can be regulated, but almost any watch can get to +10/-10. Chronometer also has other parameters like positional and temperature variance
>>
>>59209984
I don't actually mind the second hand, but a lot of people say it can be easily slipped off with some nail clippers.

I'll probably be replacing dial with this:

So a Tudor? Looks pretty good, especially if you can also change the bezel insert to a red one. Doing the work yourself?

As far as I can tell there are no aftermarket bezels that are the same shade of red as the tudor black bay. It's burgundy with a matte finish. A lot of people attempt homages with a standard shiny red bezel and it looks awful.

I'll be attempting pic related. Doing the work myself or not depends on how well I get on with doing a hand realignment on some shitty old watch I have to practice on. I'm waiting for my hand press to arrive.

If you want a chronograph that doesn't stutter at all that pretty much limits you to chronographs with directly driven chronograph second hands. How many such movements even exist besides the Lemania 5100?

Doesn't stutter: Check

The Lemania 5100 has both the chronograph minutes and seconds hands on the main dial, with only the chronograph hours on a subdial. The other two subdials are running seconds and 24h time.

>>59210329
50mm lug to lug is pretty passable for such a wide watch. It also could wear smaller because some of those last mm probably come from ghe flanged pushers
>>
>>59210429
This is nothing, I frequently see used watches where the starting bid, or buy it now price is more than the watch is brand new.

The Seiko Alpinist is available for £273, do people not understand that no matter how much they paid for their brand new watch, it's now worth less money than £273?

Try Orient, Citizen

what's a good cheap mech chronograph?
>>
>>59210711
How cheap? For new watches your options are:

Cheapest one that won't be total garbage is the SeaGull ST19 used in the 1963. After that there is Seiko's fairly new automatic column wheel vertical clutch 8rXX movement for ~$1,600.

Above that in price is the Breitling B01, which is also an automatic column wheel vertical clutch chrono. Next is probably the Omega 1861 used in the Man on the Moon which is a manual winding, non-hacking cam actuated chronograph but people still go gaga for it. Pricier still is the Zenith El Primero, and then you're into haute horlogerie.

I think that's all the ones worth considering. The Valjoux 7750 has been omitted because it's hot steaming garbage and should be avoided.
