I had one AVI-8 arrive on me with a broken minute hand.

It was swiftly sorted out by the customer
service though and apparently it is endemic to
that particular model.

If you do get an AVI-8, do your research on the
specific model because their QC is shit and
don't fucking overpay for a Quartz fashion

It seems accurate enough though from what I am hearing and it is significantly cheaper than the Seagull Seamaster
(Which that Anon from the previous threads
copped the last one in black, that lucky bastard)

Not sure tho, how these two compare.
The Seagull seamaster is a commissioned
piece by Seagull Singapore.
It is not sold
anywhere else. Its very limited run meant that
at most a hundred were sold on the
open market.
The rumored quality niggles are keeping me away though.

From what I heard from Seagull Singapore, there is only 1 blue Seamaster left (And they stopped production entirely) and my payslip is coming in later this month...

>It uses a day/night indicator and makes it look like a moonphase

I don't understand why people say this.

A day and night indicator is completely different thing to a moon phase. I posted one of my watches once and someone immediately said "LOL THATS NOT A MOON PHASE FAKE SHIT"

They're not TRYING to be moon phases.

It specifically is using a moon phase shaped aperture to appear to be a moonphase. The aperture is created this way to read the phases of the moon of a disk with 2 moons on it.
>>
>>59139777
Yes I am one of the few Anons who have actually taken the plunge and actually bought from Taobao (2 year Vet).

You won't believe the quality and the price of Chink shit and their quality is often close or even surpassing other brands in the market (Except for their clothing)

As long as you do your research and carefully scrutinise the reviews, it's all good.
>>
>>59139897
It's calling itself the "sun & moon" and advertising the fact it has a day and night indicator.

If it was trying to fake a moonphase it would say "moon phase".

So the thing is labeled sun and moon, yes which does make it more confusing why they would bother faking a moonphase window when it could use something more true to a day/night.

And it's not "calling" itself sun and moon, when the watch enters the country Puri-time (the main american distribution company and owner of orientwatchusa, which is a retailer not part of orient) gives it a name for the american market. Orient calls it a ET0T001W.

I might order this as I'm a fan of chinkshit watches that are obviously chinese. And I like the fact this has a chinese sounding company name and a chinese date wheel.

But can Aliexpress get it to Europe? They're American based right?
>>
>>59139984
So far so good
I haven't been chinked (Except on 1 piece of Clothing).

My Chinkshit from Taobao haven't broke yet after 2 years (A good sign).
Then again, I bought into Chinkshit way back when Astrotecs/Wallytechs are the dominant audiomeme
and Erke/Li-Ning were just starting to sell on the intl stage so take it with a pinch of salt.
>>
>>59140043
I doubt it. Seems to me like there's been changes in orient and Seiko about integrity. Things like fake moonphases are pretty much out of seiko, as are blatent design copies like fake datejusts which have been pushed to their other brands like pulsar. Orient has done some but not all of this yet.

I would really like to hear a meeting and see an overview of how they're going to position these different brands moving forward, and how the conversations change given that Orient is part of Epson.
>>
>>59140065

I've got a chinkshit vacuum tube preamp sitting on my desk.

Yeah.
>>
>>59140147
A moonphase is a disk that rotates every 29.5 days and shows you which phase the moon is in.

A day/night indicator is a 24 hour wheel with a sun and moon on them.
>>
>>59140166
keep in mind it will actually only do 1/2 a rotation for each new-moon to new-moon. Because there's two moon on the disk.

With quality Chink watches (Seagull & Beijing), maintenance is going to be a bitch (Shipping it to China and all that).

Other than it, it should be okay once you take that into account, assuming you bought from the official dealer.

>>59140334
Dial needs a cleanup
Needs a change in strap
Needs to be regulated
Some Brushing and TLC
>>
>>59140400
Why would it need to go back to China to be maintained?

Most chinese watches are using clones of ETA, or Seiko.

Does China even make a non cloned movement?

Even if they did it's not going to be complicated enough to stump your local watch repairman right?

There's a guy on WUS that runs a Chinese horology museum in America and not even he can find one for sale. I think they're from a time when every single "company" in China was owned by the government.

Does China not have any laws on intellectual property?

It seems that anyone can release a watch under any name they want. This results in several watch factories releasing watches under names that don't actually exist because the name has brand recognition.

>>
>>59140932
China is DIY Hardware haven, so it is not at all surprising.

Coincidentally, it is how Celadon/Perpetual got started.

Too bad /wt/ is not cohesive enough to engage in such community projects.

>>59140955
Try Baidu or Taobao
I don't think they have a site in the English medium or outside of the Mainland Chink forums.
>>
>>59140976
The problem with Chinese everything is it's so impenetrable by westerners. I don't know if that's by design but it's incredibly hard to research Chinese products.

Chinese watches especially you'll google a company and get maybe 1 post on a forum about it.
>>
>>59140907
Well since green is my favorite color I am a bit biased.

If you are really into the design I say go for it.
>>
>>59141019
I like the fact it's green and you don't get many watches that are green.

But I don't like the fact it costs 2 months food budget.
>>
>>59141000
Because they have real tangible capitalism, brands rise and fall in China all the time 24/7.

Like America in the 50s, one can just
set up one's business with little Barriers to
entry and less IP restrictions actually help
SMEs to flourish in the market and keep people
employed and fostering the true entrepreneurial spirit.

Your business flops? No problem, you can start another one ez pz.

There are generally no good public sources for Chinese watches, other than their own specialist net forums or review sites in their own medium. So to get a feel for a Chinese company, you normally have to go to Ground Zero.

Then it is not embodying the spirit of the Chinese culture.

In fact, it becomes a cynical attempt to milk money by imprinting the Traditional Chinese characters for Joy on cold empty white surface.

Looks good to me. Although hands like that probably have to be made perfectly to not fuck up the look. I'd also move the non five minute markers such that the outer edge is at the same diameter as the five minute markers. For extra autism make sure non five minutes are 2/3rds the height as well.

We don't hate Swiss makers, we hate swatch ETA shitters that aren't Swiss and are just trying to ride a wave of fake heritage.

Chinese watches are literally better than these watches.

At least the Chinese watch only costs $100, when the "Swiss" chinese watch costs several thousand.
>>
>>59147116

We don't. We hate "makers" who invest more in marketing than in making watches, and for whom watches exist only as physical totems to be imbued with messages of "prestige" and "success" and then mercilessly flogged to the gullible.

Rolex and the majority of Swiss haute horlogerie brands don't get hated in these threads at all, because they actually still make high quality watches.

You're paying a premium because "This is a Chinese watch but it's actually not shit!"

>>
>>59148188
Doesn't have a lot to do with Seagull, but they might be so expensive because of the small amount of watches produced.
I'm pretty sure Beijing Watch Factory manufactures the entire thing, and it's not cheap to start a production of say 50 watches, as was the case with the Peacock.

>Does China not have any laws on intellectual property?
Yes, they have laws. They have to conform close-ish to TRIPS for them to be in the WTO.

The real question is rather if these laws are enforced and that is a very different topic. Presently foreigners have a lot of problems which is the norm for countries with limited domestic IP to protect. Now that this is changing (especially in mobile communication tech but also in other fields) the desire to enforce will increase.

The same thing happened in the US which used to be a bit of Wild West in terms of IPR until they needed IP protection themselves. Charles Dickens had a LOT of readers in the US but got not a penny from that. Today the US considers IP to be close to sacred.

So when China starts making original own name brand products things will change. not before.

How bad is it, I'd probably wear it once a month at the very least. Can't I get the battery swapped out if it goes flat?
>>
>>59152569
Nope

Was curious as to why there's so many G-Shock GA100s/GA110s going for $60 or less on eBay from US sellers when even Singapore sellers can only sell them for $85 or so. Seems like the Chinese are selling them for $10-30 on Taobao.

You can change the capacitor
>>
>>59152735
Yea, if you live in Tibet near one of the only two certified capacitor changers in the world

Plus:
- well lumed from what I can see
- wide push buttons at 2 and 4 o'clock
- relatively tidy face

Minus:
- no crown guard
- also buttons should be lumed, a very nice example was shown earlier
- date window is just bad
- no day and month
- too much verbiage on the 6 o'clock sub dial
- no GMT hand

Found a breitling superocean a13340
It's worth £2,450
If I were to sell it, whats the best watch in the price range I have I could buy?
I'd prefer it to be less than 39mm

Thanks
>>
>>59152190
You're going to have to change the battery in that thing more frequently since it's a high-frequency quartz

The sub-seconds dial is shrunk to make room for a date window that isn't there.

Is it fake? My Tangente has the same shrunken sub-dial, but that's because it's the Gangreserve version.
>>
>>59153385
Shouldn't have wasted your money buying Nomos if you can't tell the difference between a shitty fake and your watch.

I built a 4 bit counter 7 segment display in my digital electronics class which took up about 3/4 of a breadboard. You'll need 15 bits for one second, and an additional 16 bit counter for the 43,200 seconds in 12 hours, plus four seven segment display controllers. It's a lot of fucking logic to build from simple gates.

Hey guys, first time stopping by

This was my dads TAG Heuer, he just broke up with my stepmom now and needs some money so I bought it from him for $1200.

It's a lot but feels pretty cool having my first real luxury watch.

What do you think?
>>
>>59153503
What the fuck is that gif
>>
>>59153464
No, I mean analog. All it has to do every second is for the 15bit counter to overflow and send a pulse to the stepper motor.
>>
>>59153522
You're dads' huh?
>>
>>59153562
Oh that's a lot easier then, the display logic is the hard part.
>>
>>59153522
Nice Christopher Ward homage.

Any schematics? For like a single bit?

You just have string together flip flops in the appropriate number. You actually need 16 bits because the final one is the trigger for the stepper motor.
>>
>>59153928
Are you sure? Every book I have on watch repair says 15bit.
>>
>>59152069
just buy a Ray II
>>
>>59153955
Wait you're right, I was thinking about it the wrong way until I did a simpler example in my head.
