Your favorite desert kike is still kicking, just barely though.

Will take some pics of the new arrivals soon enough.

>>59083643
Pretty simple really.

Buying new shouldn't be an issue in terms of it being franken, though beware of QC issues. Might need to adjust it yourself as well, but it isn't too hard. The two new Amphibia's i had both ran at +5sec per day after regulation.

Buying vintage is a different story, lot's of research on if you're buying a franken or not, whether it's a survivor or some kind of rape child. Consult here or with the WUS autists beforehand.

Sent post too quick.

Was meant to add other than that they are reliable beaters that shouldn't need servicing ever 6l(I've read that komandirskies were made as 10 year disposable watches)

A good cheap watch that no normal fag has heard of or will ever compliment. But who cares? They just werk and you can hear them tick.

Do manual winds do best winding once per day?
>>
>>59083624
Dressy chronos send a weird message. What is it you need to time?

"I really liked the best man's speech!"
"Yeah but he went 49 seconds too long."

"What did you think of the boss's meeting?"
"Not a bad concept but he talked way too much. Look! The whole thing took him 23 minutes and 31 seconds."
>>
>>59084183
The difference between once a day and multiple times a day is small and the exact effect will depend how it's regulated. More wound means a watch will run slightly faster than less wound.

So let's say you're winding in morning and evening, and the watch is running fast overall, you could try just once a day and see how it effects the running
>>
>>59084243
Kek, but timing that kinda shit is pretty funny. And you get a free pass doing it on your watch as opposed to using your phone like a nerd.
>>
>>59084243
Timing parts of meetings could be useful. Need to apply the 80-20 rule, and if you're trying to identify time wasters it's good to know how long things are actually taking.

Do you ever go home. Or leave the office. Or have a beam of sunlight hit your arm.

Quartz is very bad with fluctuating temps.
>>
Why would you waste time making a high accuracy quartz movement when you can just have it sync to a timing signal broadcast?
>>
>>59085623
They also cost downward of 2.5k

Where are you getting this fucking number? Even full MSRP GS quartz can be like 2.1 for sbgx059 and normal models, and after discount or gray market you can get around 1.7k or something.

>>
>>59085790
GPS antenna watches are still very big. And atomic watches can only sync to so many signals. So many places never have a signal. Like you can't even make this arguement to an Australian or Brazilian.

And it's cool to push the timekeeping of the wrist as fast as you can go too.
>>
>>59085897

Alright, well 17 is generally considered "fully jeweled" for a manual watch. MOTM switches to 18 jewels a few years before the switch from the 861 movement to the 1861 movement. 21 jewels is considered fully jeweled for an automatic movement.

You certainly can put in more jewels, and their effectiveness and use changes. But at some point you just can't do any good by adding any more jewels. For instance, this watch has 100 jewels. But really only 17 do anything, and there are 83 extra ones.
>>
Would you say this watch is fully jewelled
>>
>>59085757
If you're buying one that legit looks like a shitter than you have rocks in your fucking head.

While they're good stealth wealth pieces I would definitely put them below the "ultimate" title because s Vacheron Constantin, Lange or Patek in white gold would probably take that title.
>>
>>59090124
>nothing on the hands
didnt know this was a pleb thread
>>
>>59090080
Also, think of "fully jeweled" like "full HD" you can get more without it being pure bullshit marketing.

Jewels can be embedded, for example, on a plate where an open springbarrel sits. In this case the the plate acts as the "side" of the springbarrel and helps the mainspring wind and unwind easily without friction from the plate. This is one of the techniques Seiko uses to achivements the thin 6800 family movements. That takes an extra 4 jewels to do.

For reference: Grand Seiko Hi-Beat watches use 37 jewels.

The Low-Beat Grand Seikos use 35.

Speaking of the Valjoux 7750, there is a Chinese clone on the market. How come the market is flooded with Seagull ST19 based Chronographs. And no Valjoux 7750 clone chronographs? Both movements go for about $100 and the Valjoux 7750 clone would be the better movement.
>>
>>59091854
So ETA movements have grades. You have

Basic
Elabore
Top
Chronometer

As you move up thru the grades you have movements that are only adjusted to like 2 positions, all the way up to 5 positions for top/chronometer. But it's not just the amount of regulation/QC that each grade goes thru. The actual material used to construct the balance wheel, pallet stones, escape wheel and other things all change as you go up in grade. Also the design of the shock protection goes up in grade.

So while some are certified chronometers, others are not, and they might not even be constructed to the level required to pass the test even if you tried to regulate it for it.

Now keep in mind you can have these sort of between grade things, particularly from swatch companies. Like if you buy a hamilton it may have an elabore movement, but they'll put the incabloc shock protection that you normally see on top and chronometer grade movements.

So this is part of the reason you'll see watches using the "same" movement go for different prices, the grade of movement.
>>
>>59091867
ETA sell 7750 in 3 grades. Elaborated, Top and Chronometer.

Is there a point to all this "adjusted to multiple positions" stuff?

I have a watch that gains 10 seconds a day dial up and loses 10 seconds a day dial down. In my mind that's perfect because I can just alternate every night to keep the watch in perfect time.

If it was gaining 2 seconds a day in every position it would actually be worse.

>Is there a point to all this "adjusted to multiple positions" stuff?
For one, it can ultimately be part of CQ, cost savings and product binning.

For anyone who doesn't know the 6 positions are:

Dial up
dial down
crown up
crown down
12 o'clock up
12 o'clock down
(other terms may be used)

If they only do 2 positions, I think they adjust to crown down (like arm down at your side, crown points down,) and dial up (like typing on your keyboard.) But I don't know that for sure, I've heard other people say things like this but never have seen any confirmation.

>I have a watch that gains 10 seconds a day dial up and loses 10 seconds a day dial down.
That's the idea, if you can negate your daily loss/gain by putting it a certain way overnight it's good.

It's great to see Habring's production numbers going up. One of the first thing I read about Habring was the concern expressed by Richard and Maria about how hard it was to actually make a profit. Bigger production ensures the future of the brand.
Hopefully, I'll come across a Jumping Second Pilot soon.
Enjoy your Habring m8.

I always loved watches and I bought a few cheap ones during my youth. Gladly, thanks to my mother's intervention, I still have every and all the watches I ever owned.

I bought my first "serious" watch when I was in the verge of finishing college and started working, if I remember correctly.

I know it sounds a bit simple, but I buy a watch when I fall in love with it and I'm convinced I wish to wear and take care of it for the rest of my life.

Until I don't encounter another watch that invokes this feeling in me I won't buy another. When I do, well...

Thanks m8. Same to you.

Hope it stays that way. But yeah as long as it has moving parts it'll eventually need a service. Chink quartz will die in a few years, a Miyota 2035 might need a cleaning after ten-fifteen years, a vintage 70's quartz will probably have needed one in the 90's-00's.

Liek dis?

oh yea, and seiko has one under $1k
short of rare materials, no watch looks like it should cost more than a car
>>
>>59097962
Yes that's a watch that looks expensive.
>>
>>59097802

You'd have to see and handle one in person to be able to say that. A lot of high end finishing doesn't really come across well in photos. Plus the difference in level of finishing on the movement would be totally obvious to the naked eye.

It's also inevitably a matter of diminishing returns. It's astronomically more expensive to make something complex by hand rather than a production process, the price difference will almost inevitably be larger than then apparent difference in finishing.

This isn't made from rare materials and looks like it's worth a lot of money

Why does there seem like there is no interest in producing complication watches out of quartz so they can be sold cheaply and mass produced?

Complications like perpetual calendar and moon phase are more simpler to do with quartz and computer chips.

But I can't find any dress watches in the "style" of grand complication watches with quartz movements.

Guess what? I managed to find an exceedingly rare Seiko SBPG001 on Y! Japan Auctions a couple of weeks ago.

Probably the only digital watch ever made with a stainless steel case, atomic radio sync, solid link solid end link bracelet, and electroluminescent backlight.

Also, I put on a plaid shirt specifically to take this picture.

If i come to southern ontario can we r ouch watches
>>
>>59098017

Because the very concept of "complications" is intrinsically tied to their mechanical complexity. Their is close to zero overlap between people who buy quartz watches and people who would be interested in traditional complications, so no one bothers.

That lack of overlap is why quartz watches are almost never designed in keeping with watch design traditions (I.e. they look "wrong" to watch autists), because their is almost zero overlap in those two markets.

Look what came in the mail today.
Pros:
- Wears smaller than it's actual size like most Seikos.
- Brilliant dial, changes shade of blue depending on lighting
- Incredible lume, 5 seconds of sunlight and it lasts for ages
- Good bezel movement, kinda stiff at first until you've rotated a few times
- Hacking & handwinding because of the 4R35 movement, a nice change from the 7S movement in the SKX and Seiko 5s

Cons:
- Bezel is a total bitch to grip
- Bracelet is a pain in the arse to adjust, uses pin and collar
- Bracelet rattles a lot
- No AR coating on the crystal, so kind of hard to read in bright areas because of the dial reflections

Overall it's a nice limited edition. Any questions and I will answer them.

There are a few 38mm dive watches around. Seiko makes the SKX013. If you want a reddit tier watch Christopher Ward makes a 38mm version of their diver. If you want Submariner tier Blancpain just started making the 50 fathoms in 38mm.

Anon, the only thing thats done by hand on that watch is the finishing, the parts amd case etc. Are still produced by machines/production line

It's good, bezel on it is much nicer than the one in the one on the turtle version

Look at the Hamilton kaki aviation. It's automatic has 28800bph, sapphire glass, non integrated lugs, display case and an ETA2824-2 which is easy to go and service. They have a 38mm and 42mm I think.

Or you could try and find a discounted Christopher ward trident divers watch.

Amphibias have 200m we with a domed crystal don't they?
>>

Garbage styling and even their one good watch is covered in far too much INVICTA branding.
