it doesn't need to if your download is saturated. you can have 1 seed give you 100% of the file for all the bittorrent spec cares. every extra client is a little bit of extra overhead.

if your speeds are wank slow (looks like they are) then its probably a really bad peering issue and you just cant connect to anyone else
if you can, try torrenting through a proxy/vpn to see if your peering improves

(also remember seeds on public torrents are slow as fuck anyway (but not 16kbps slow))

It's pretty /comfy/ though due to how the bonus points work. On the first few days you'll run into a limit on the total number of torrents you can download due to their HNR rule, but after like a month or so you can easily download 200 small, least seeded torrents and rake in the passive points.

Once you get to power user you can apply to the next level of trackers.

So I have to do good by some entry level trackers before the better ones will give me a shot. How do they keep track of who I am though? Is it just by username or something? So whatever I choose when starting with MaM becomes my username for every private tracker I'll ever use now?

I like my privacy and if I have to always be syncing my online private tracker presences to one identity then it could be a PITA. I understand the need for building reputation but is there any way to do this without leaving such a neat paper trail like I'm describing?

Having a single persona certainly helps, particularly for getting into very hard/rare trackers ("oh hey I know $X, they uploaded some sweet album last week and I remember they have a good taste in movies from $Y, maybe i'll invite him to $Z") but it's by no means necessary
For the most part, you just need one persona per site, and you work your way up on that. Once you hit a certain point of status (good enough data upload etc), staff from other sites will extend invite offers to you so that you join their site (as a proven 'good member' on the first site). when you get to this step, you can sign up with a completely different username/email.
if you choose to sign up with the same or a different username, it's whatever. either way you need to start the process again of ranking up to being a 'good user' on the new site before you can reach the next level of invites
usually, getting 'good user' status on 2 or 3 good sites will get you into pretty much every tracker. for example, https://interview.passtheheadphones.me this site has invites to the best gaming tracker, the 2nd best movie trackers, 2nd best tv trackers etc
