Does anybody know if there is any way to climb to the top without having friends or buying invites?
>>
>>59012736
define "the top" -- what trackers in particular?

it's more about routes to a few endgames now. i guess you could consider hdb the "top" since you can get virtually anywhere *from* hdb
>>
lmaooooooooooo
>>
>>59012640
Does HDBits really do that? If you buy your invite, do they really let you keep it if you rat out your inviter? Surely the inviters know this too then?
>>
Reminder if you are not on Oppaitime, you're missing the best IRC.
>>
>>59012749
HDbits

I'm currently scheduled to take the MAM interview. I hope to make HDbits around 1-2 years
>>
>>59012766
some places do that. i've only seen one very low level tracker actually have a "if you came here in a nefarious manner and tell us immediately, you're OK" policy. hdb seems like the kind of place that maybe wouldn't like that. maybe you never get invite privs or something.

either way, i wouldn't personally risk it. it'd be annoying to change seedboxes and proxies just because i got btfo there.
>>
>>59012767
is it like a circlejerk 24/7
>>
>>59012723
MAD LAD OP
>>
>>59012790
Kind of, I never chat there. They call each other faggots all day, talk about sucking dick ironically, etc.
>>
>>59012766
Yep. Usually an invite seller will sell multiple invites/accounts. If they catch him in time they can prevent that (as well as catch all the previous sold accounts)

The invites try to convince you not to do it. But honestly, I'd rather be on the tracker staff's side than the invite seller. Cause if I dont rat out, his next buyer might and my account will be on the line
>>
>>59012784
this anon is right, they usually remove your invite privileges. Its not like you'd use these on HDBits anyways
>>
>>59012773
so you're about two months behind me, give or take a couple weeks

that's a realistic timeline. there are a couple shortcuts you should try to cultivate if you can get them. AB is huge, but recruitment is suspended. need an invite. it blows staying /pure/ but if you're careful it's not a big deal

tehc is a weak bridge now, which is why mam was recommended in the first place as a starter tracker. there's plenty of good invites on mam though, and it's retarded easy to maintain buffer/activity there. plus if you actually like audiobooks this place is heaven

i assume you want hdbits for movies. tehc is the stallwart but it's my personal opinion that they're slowing down. it's obvious by watching their announce, it's a trickle. past few weeks are 2-3 users spamming scene uploads of old movies. buffer can be tough

x264.me is a good site with quality internal encodes. much much easier to make than hdbits but obviously won't have the selection. it'll be a good place to be while you wait for hdbits access to open up somewhere

yeah really sounds like a bitchin' irc that i'm missing
>>
>>59012815
yeah as long as i can still use invite forums on hdb that's fine, because i don't give out invites ever
>>
>>59012819
Thanks anon, I only want HDBits for the epeen since everyone here is spamming how great it is (and it'd likely to make a great backup since I doubt it will close down).

Thanks for that x264 tip, I might stick with that in the meanwhile
>>
>>59012823
It's nice actually. I've seen people get invited to other trackers through the IRC.
>>
>>59012842
yeah a year or so back a few people got invited to PTP from there.
>>
>>59012819
>>59012840
PTP, BiB, PTP, BTN, and AHD are kind of impossible to get into right now unless you know someone. Not really something you can work towards at the moment.
>>
>>59012857
Yeah, the other day someone gave another person a PTH invite, just because they wanted it. Good community.
>>
>>59012840
yeah hdb is still a fine goal to maintain
good first step doing mam interview
have both those rules/faq files or whatever the fuck they are open during interview. don't copy/paste but just make sure you're giving the right answer

a drooling downs-ridden punjabi could pass it, so welcome. they just recently rotated the FL picks, so not an awesome time to score some buffer. you can only seed 20 torrents at a time as a newbie and you have to seed for at least 3 days, so make sure you have your 20 slots open the next time FL rotates

they'll tell you to say in the chat/shoutbox that you're new and excited to be here. do that and they'll ship you tons of bonus points. takes 5k bonus points to buy VIP, which is the invite forums. after a month (sorry, that part sucks) you can buy VIP.

get it

>>
>>59012861
>the only trackers I want are impossible to get on
I guess I'll stick to AB and IPT
>>
>>59012842
you can get invited places from most irc
be a part of the chat community, but keep your head down about politics/religion/ethics in general. don't want to earn the anger of staff that might share opposing views, and may not look on you favorably should something happen to your account etc.

i got into AB via a channel rizon irc. acted like a weeb and not an asshole long enough that someone tossed me an invitings
>>
>>59012861
basically the only route if you're not already connected is unofficial invite threads, or knowing other high level users

i've heard AB legend has some sweet invites but that's a lot of uploading for little payoff if there's nothing there. plus they just BTFO a lot of the easy ways to get to 500 ups
>>
>>59012900
Kind of. AB recruits officially on OT, but that is the only place.
>>
>>59012903
yeah, but thats for AB a low-tier tracker. I doubt you'd get a PTP/HDBits invite like that
>>
so why do you fucking idiots download FLAC files when they sound literally the same as 320?
>>
>>59012900
correct, official AB recruitment is shut down. they closed ranks around the new year, shut down their email daemon around christmas to stop invites from going out period. tons of staff changeover, and the last week or so has a bunch of major rule changes designed to rip out shitty quality torrents

they're getting their shit together in the fallout of WCD. it'll only get harder to gain access to AB before it gets easier again
>>
>>59012925
So you can have your precious little 320 later when it goes down, and you don't need to worry your little head about it being a transcode.
>>
>>59012913
really? almost makes that 2d childpornfest worth it
>>
that sucks, guess I shouldve applied when I had the chance
>>
>>59012901
>AB and IPT
just add POO and you've completed the failforce
>>
>>59012920
no but you can parlay a good standing on AB into other sites, possibly even those directly if you get lucky. AB is a big head start these days with tehc being dead
>>
>>59012925
Convert it to other formats, one for my phone and the other to save space on my PC.

I archive the flac.
>>
>>59012935
10 uploads + some upload + some download isn't bad. Just take the interview on the IRC.
>>
>>59012925
there's no good reason for me not to have lossless sources, and just transcode for whatever device if it can't handle FLACs

storage is cheap
>>
>>59012911
>AB legend has some sweet invites
where did you hear that, legend forum is dead as shit and the only active thread is "Legendary Kawaii Thread" where people post cute anime girls, among invites there is lliterally "AnimeBytes Invite Thread"

>>
>>59012888
>>
>>59012925
There seems to be a lot of misconceptions in the music community regarding the differences between 320kbps mp3 and FLAC format. It is true that 320kbps is technically as good as FLAC, but there are other reasons to get music in a lossless format.

Hearing the difference now isn’t the reason to encode to FLAC. FLAC uses lossless compression, while MP3 is ‘lossy’. What this means is that for each year the MP3 sits on your hard drive, it will lose roughly 12kbps, assuming you have SATA – it’s about 15kbps on IDE, but only 7kbps on SCSI, due to rotational velocidensity. You don’t want to know how much worse it is on CD-ROM or other optical media.

I started collecting MP3s in about 2001, and if I try to play any of the tracks I downloaded back then, even the stuff I grabbed at 320kbps, they just sound like crap. The bass is terrible, the midrange…well don’t get me started. Some of those albums have degraded down to 32 or even 16kbps. FLAC rips from the same period still sound great, even if they weren’t stored correctly, in a cool, dry place. Seriously, stick to FLAC, you may not be able to hear the difference now, but in a year or two, you’ll be glad you did.
>>
>>59012946
yeah, but I'll grow out of anime soon, so I'd rather put time and effort into a site that I have a future on.

> PTH over the next 3-6 months

1. Log rescoring will soon take place, and the resulting trump bonanza will have severe e-peen consequences for users who own no physical media (they will be demoted).

2. Having the right user class is extremely important to said users, and they will find other means of reclaiming their past status.

3. What sources of music are available to them? Purchase CDs? Too expensive. Purchase vinyl? Too expensive. Purchase WEB releases? Too expensive. Cross seed from other trackers? Could work for older WEB releases, cause everything new is instacrossed with scripts. Bandcamp? OW LAWD YES.

4. Bandcamp is already being mirrored on the tracker for 2017 releases, but after PTH narrowed the definition on what's regarded as a "perfect flac", the site will become a 1:1 perfect replica of anything released for free on Bandcamp... past, present and future.

5. Music egalitarians everywhere rejoice after realizing Bandcamp is saved through the HDDs and bandwidth of PTH users. Who needs VC backing when you've got illegal filesharers paying to do the job for free?

6. The question is, are you gonna race to upload the newest bandcamp releases, or are you gonna harvest the older archives and keep yourself alive 0 1 0 style?

Time will tell.

actually, the man knows what he's talking about, albeit, petty or nonsense to most people. when i've gone back to some really old mp3's from way back 'in-the-day' (90's, Napster, 56k modem) most of my mp3 library sounds like crap, mostly due to the technologies available at the time. i notice an unusually large amount of "pops" in a lot of songs and a 128k rip sounds more flat than a new 128k rip (both sound terrible regardless). anybody who knows how data is written to a disc would know that bits do get lost over time.

i'm an arrogant, elitist, analog snob with 2 vintage hifi systems (1 solid state/1 tube based) that can expose every imperfection in an mp3 file. it absolutely cracks me up when people think their crappy OEM soundcard, crappy best buy cables, and crappy desktop speakers are suitable benchmarks for judging sound quality.
it's pathetic how nowadays people have allowed themselves to compromise quality over convenience and cost. i'm only 34 but just as bitter and scornful as someone twice my age. just wait until i get my FLAC vinyl rip blog up and running!

"Private" trackers should ban all recruitment and invite offers on any tracker that ever has open signups, interviews, or any way of getting in from the outside.

The only way into your tracker should be through OFFICIAL recruitment from another secure, PRIVATE tracker.
>>
>>59013140
The average consumer won't even care which file he listens to, what he wants is to listen to that lousy ****called rap they dare call music at minimal cost of expenses and size. Then there's my kind. I, like few that can be found today, am an audiophile as well as a musician with a perfect hearing. Thus, I require the highest quality. Coincidentally, I own a X5 media player (Cowon, IAudio -- 20GB bought it for 1800NIS, approx. 450$ at the time, 2 years ago -- dully note that its cost was approx. 200$ in the states at the time), and recently (4 months ago) bought Shure's E2C (For 550NIS, roughly 150$ dully note that this is more than twice its cost in the states.

I listen only to FLAC unless the music I want to listen to just so happens to be unavailable to me in such a lovely format, so am compelled to use MP3, and am saddened by this but can't complain. Unlike the average person I therefore notice those little details so many fail to. And the major difference is: I appreciate those little sounds. And for the past few months I've been dying to get A3! (Imagine a bazillion emphasis marks) I've considered taking drastic measures and becoming a menace to society just to get it. It's like, I can feel in my hands! I just don't have the money!) -- Same goes for the SE500. (I've actually been waiting for Shure's latest product for a long time now.) The A3 here costs 1900NIS (approx. 540$ -- costs 200-400$ in the states). The SE500 costs 2000NIS (approx. 570$ -- actual cost in the states is 500$ from the official website. I guess I can't complain about this.) Usually people upload Mp3s which sucks. I firstly look for FLAC, followed by APE, WMA (etc.), and when I lose all hope I turn to MP3. Luckily though, lately FLAC has been gaining incredible popularity.

Absolute fastest and easiest way for a newbie would be to select a Windows instance in the Compute Engine and install your preferred Bittorrent client. That's it

I did notice some quirks when I was using it that you should keep in mind

#1 I had no Idea what the default password was for the Windows Server so I had to use (specifically) Googles browser-based command line to reset the password

Don't worry there's just a button and it's inputted automatically

#2 You have to open all the ports manually, but they have good documentation for that, it's under "Networking"

#3 - There was something else but I've forgotten, either way if you're at least somewhat competent with a computer I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out. Google provides documentation for pretty much everything (Even a Minecraft server guide)

It can be a little annoying at first but honestly it's for the best as it gives complete control of the Network and Servers to you
>>
>>59015972
>>59016074
Oh right, now I remember

For the 3rd quirk if you launch a Windows Server you need to go into the "Server Manager" inside the OS and disable that browser protection bullshit that stops you from visiting all websites

And the US-Network is the one that will give you Gigabit speeds

/ptg/ has gotten really really shitty. I started private trackers a little over a year ago with AB. Got onto what/AHD/MTV/PTP and most recently BTN so pretty much solid as far as private trackers go.

once /ptg/ started getting so shit and i got my 'needs' fulfilled for the most part i stopped posting here. everytime i come back out of curiosity its just people circle jerking each other. making 'meme's of everything. so much that you faggots started 'news'

Why do you deserve to get what you want for free without 'contributing'?

If you want to PRINT some easy credit, grab a few 2017 flacs from bandcamp for free, and upload to the tracker of your choice. Do NOT tag them as free. You will have a swarm of at least 8-10 seedboxes literally sucking the shit out of your asshole. You don't even have to wipe (except for that stupid grin on your face).

If you seed from a home connection, you will probably not get more than 1.5x filesize, but who cares, all of it is buffer. Seedbox seeding should net you 2.5+ ratio.

frequent /ptg/ (((goy))) here, let me help explain

WCD went down and the idiot WCD users that had no other trackers flooded reddit. in turn, those faggots ended up here thinking that somehow and couldn't stop posting memes. they still can't stop, because they all think they're just hilarious.

look at the "previous thread" linked in this OP. this exact thread was created in revolt of the recent /ptg/ state, the horseshit nala crap, the constant memeing and no actual content being produced. who cares if they're newbie questions, just follow the OP and fuckin help out. the majority of this thread looks pretty good, especially up at the top. lots of good shit there.

it's been tough lately. i won't lie. but we need good users to stick around and help out, or the sites we love are going to stagnate and fucking die

See
>Zero effort, spam releases (New!)
>Creators that prolifically release zero effort content of no value (e.g Paul_DVR, Vap0rwave, stretches), often solely for the purpose of spam or upload gain
Bandcamp stuff usually falls here and someone prolifically uploading stuff from bandcamp will put you in some users watchlist, lookig for the moment where you upload a "spam release" and report you.

Also, if they catch you doing this, those users will block you from their snatchlist and tell the rest.

>>59023045
See above. Stop trying to get /ptg/ users banned.

Either you're pretty fucking dumb, or you're intentionally trying to mislead /ptg/ users.

Somthing like 0.1% of Bandcamp releases are 'officially' regarded as "zero effort, spam releases" after staff review.

Quit bullshitting.
>>
>>59023068
You say it like all Bandcamp albums fall under that zero effort classification. There's plenty of legit, free to download albums being released daily, and there's nothing in the rules against it. That's how I made Elite on WCD, never had a single issue.

You do know it's not only those two artists who can be considered spam bandcamp artists, right? The number is way more than 0.1%, and if a user finds out (most likely an autosnatcher) they can fill a report against you, and they will, because they don't like people getting their buffer.
I'm not trying to mislead anyone here, but purposely cheating the system and taking advantage of it will get you into troubles.
But sure, following /ptg/'s advice is always a good idea.

>>59023128
I'm not saying that. I'm saying that a considerable amount of them do. Even if it was 10%, you are going to upload one of those eventually, and when you do, they will report you. I know there are legit bandcamp albums, and those are fine, but uploading exclusively 2017 bandcamp albums will get you into troubles. And yes, there is something in the rules against it, read my post above.
On WCD it was reasonable because there where just way too many users, but on PTH they will catch you easily.

Exactly. Takes you 20 seconds per upload.

Too bad >>592023189 doesn't realize this. It's safe to say that he:

1) doesn't know what's available on Bandcamp.

2) doesn't know how vocal the "taste differs. someone else might like what you don't" crowd is. In their world 'all music = equal'.

3) doesn't know how negligibly small the amount of "specifically banned" content really is.

4) that so far probably no warnings have been issued to users who avoid 'bad tags, bad filenames, missing tracks, transcode, disallowed format' on their uploads.

Nice implications taken out of your ass, faglord. I'm aware of all that stuff and addressed them on my previous posts.
Also, fucking lol at the janitor who deleted my post, which doesn't even appear on the archive now. Just how fucking assblasted do you have to do that?
