Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price, or improve specs or build quality.

>Assemble your parts list with price comparisons by vendor and compatibility filter.

>Consider a G4560 instead of i3; similar performance, up to 50% cost reduction.
>Consider using an i5 6500/7500 in any RX470/480 or GTX 1060 tier build.
>Consider stock fan+heatsink for any locked CPU build without a Z mobo.
>Consider a H110/B150 (UEFI needs update before installing a Kaby Lake CPU) or B250 mobo for any Pentium or i3 build.
>Add a 240GB SSD to the "Very Good" tier build or even budget builds instead of a HDD.
>The only worthwhile gfx cards are the GTX1050Ti, RX470, RX480, GTX1060 6GB.

Reminder to wait until Ryzen (release in 2-3 weeks) has real benchmarks released before you buy a new CPU.
>>
>>59009053
Yeah I was actually looking for /pcbg/ to ask this.

I'm coming from a fx 8300 which is bottle-necking everything like crazy. I'm looking at an i5 Kraby Lake build, but I figure I can hold out for a few more weeks because prices for even Intel stuff may fluctuate.

Although, even if Ryzen is actually great, no doubt that compatible mobos will be limited and very expensive to the point of Ryzen not even being worth it until late in the year.

Mobos were already finished for CES and will more than likely be more available than Ryzen chips.

1. pick out a mobo to complete this build (4-dimm and under $100 is preferred)

>>59009421

>>59010533
You ask that like it honestly matters, there's no difference in temps. IIRC it's because of the fan cable. Made it neater to have it wrapped around the fan and the header is on that side at an almost perfect length. Kinda got messed up in the transfer though.
>>
>>59010590
looks retarded and you could probably get better temps if the back fan is intake if you dont want to change it
>>
>>59010605
>looks retarded and you could probably get better temps if the back fan is intake if you dont want to change it
Only because you're used to seeing them on the the right side.

>better temps
I doubt that. Or do you think I didn't flip the fan around to make it flow the right direction? It's still going front to back across the heatsink.
>>
>>59010639
im talking about the fucking case fan you retard.
>>
>>59010670
I know. But I don't see how flipping it around to be intake would do anything to affect the temps of my CPU since the fan on the heatsink is still in a front to back configuration. If I flipped the exhaust fan around it would be fighting the CPU fan.
>>
>>59010590
>>59010533
I have my fan in pull for clearance and the only real difference is noise. If the fan is 100%, it sounds like a plane taking off. The extra thick pads Noctua included fixed this though.

>>
>>59010929
no, i said it's retarded and you claimed it wouldnt make a difference. i guarantee it would if you flip the back case fan around and make the cpu fan blow that fresh air over the heatsink

it might not be much but that air is closer to ambient than the air that traveled some distance from the front to your heatsink (which btw has less airflow cus it's only pulling air through).

try me faggot

>>
>>59011044
If it's cheaper than the 650w models then it's not actually going to be able to hit the same real outputs that the 650w will hit. That's a theoretical cap and it's likely far less efficient and has worse power connectors than the 650w model.

It will literally be less than a degree of difference according to many, many people who have tested this. Or you know. A standard deviation of any actual test. It makes literally no appreciable difference and as another anon pointed out, it would be absolutely fucking retarded to flip the exhaust fan around into an intake when it's not filtered in an otherwise completely filtered case.

My idle temperatures right now are nearly ambient and it has never caused any issue under load despite an 800Mhz OC. You're full of shit and bitching about things you obviously have no actual knowledge of.

>>

The orange on the Gigabyte model is limited to small stripes on the fan shroud. When it's actually in the system you can't really see it. Source: I built a system with the exact same card in it.

The red on MSI card is visible when it's installed. So if you want a flat black build the Gigabyte is better for that.

Thank you. As it stands right now the Gigabyte model is cheaper anyways. The only gripe I have is the red LEDs on the keyboard but I can easily just turn those off or get new keycaps.

The fluidity of 144hz is indeed super noticeable. The first time I used a 144hz monitor, it was creepy just how fluid animations, the way the mouse moved, etc was. TN panels still look good imo but it's up to you. Getting 144 fps in most of the games you play is a pain though.

Are platinum PSUs worth it?
>>
>>59017062
Usually not. Some lower W are but most are not cost effective, if you need like >850W for whatever reason cost effectivness becomes better.
You could simply get something like a EVGA G3 or Super Flower Leadex II, they are essentially the same and offer almost plat efficiency.
>>
>>59017062
if you plan on doing overclocking, sure. Otherwise, no. Getting a good PSU is still worth it, but rating is just one variable

PSUs typically last several years and through multiple builds. Keep in mind that a PSU could last you 10 years, but your CPU maybe 5 and GPU maybe 3. The smaller price premium you pay for a good PSU is typically worth it.

Latency, as XMP profiles have to be set manually, and putting it on Windows 8.1 mode so it can boot somewhat faster (since I don't use any other OS)

What happens is, at times it won't recognize some drives and in order for them to be bootable I have to restore my settings to defaults. Also at times I have to disconnect all of my drives, otherwise it will hang before showing the bios splash screen no matter how many times I restart it. It's painful.

BTW, how long do you estimate until we get RX 500s? I'm not exactly a fan of grabbing a GPU as it comes out, due to how AMD handles drivers, but at this point maybe I should wait.

Hey there guys, recently built a new PC, and it needed to be small because i need to be able to move it a lot and keep it on my work bench, and also cheap because the company paid for it ($600 budget) I'm using it to run proprietary software that I need to use my 3d plotter. I've found 2 things: 1, i need a water cooler. and 2. I need a dedicated GPU, the APU is not cutting it, my render times are taking hours.

4670k @ 4.1ghz
8 GB DDR3-2133
240GB SSD
535w Raidmax PSU with 41A +12V
Gigabyte mini-itx motherboard with A88x chipset

Is the corsair h50 going to give me a good improvement over the stock cpu cooler? I'm currently maxing out at 70c under load. And will a gtx1060 be pretty much the maximum amount of GPU i will be able to use without my shitty AMD meme-tier CPU bottlenecking it?

Thanks guys.
>>
>>59020606
There's going to be top-down pressure on everything intel. It might only shift a few dollars but it will eventually move. Not a huge deal though if you need a cheap PC immediately.

>>
>>59020660
APU is an AMD thing. 4670k is an intel CPU. Not sure what you're talking about here unless you've got your numbers mixed up.

I'm confused by your dilemma because you're saying you're bottlenecked by the graphics of the iGPU but you're asking about CPU coolers. As to gtx 1060 helping render times it depends on if the software you're using is CUDA based. If it is, then yes it will help.
>>
>>59020705

Nobody's saying it's a bad idea you fucking child. People are saying the price drop won't be significant as the chip is already as cheap as chips.
>>
>>59020736
Whoops, i meant 7670k. My bad. I was asking two seperate questions.

1. Is the water cooling system going to reduce my CPU temps by an amount that's worth the investment?

2. Is the GPU going to be maxed out by my CPU?

Thanks.

See seem confused. You listed an Intel CPU and an AMD mobo. Anyway rendering is CPU base AFAIK. Check benchmarks. Likely you'll have to make do until Ryzen shows up, in which case you'll want the 4c / 8t if you're on a budget or the 6c / 12t if at all possible.

>>59020761

>>
>>59020791

>>
>>59020761
Ok, makes a bit more sense then. If your APU is hitting 100% load now at 70c then a water cooler isn't going to make a difference as APUs are designed to run hot as fuck. It's getting choked by the workload but it's almost impossible to say if adding a GTX 1060 will help without knowing what that software is trying to do. Like I said, if it's CUDA based then yes, in theory an Nvidia GPU will help with the workload since that will be much more powerful than the R7 graphics component of your APU. How much it will help will be up to the pathetic CPU side of your APU.

What I'm trying to say is your shit's fucked and a water cooler isn't going to help.

Thanks for the help m80's. I know it's not an ideal setup but once again, i didn't pay for it. I have to use it for at least a year before i can get a new workstation so I'm just trying to make the best of what i've got. If 70c is an acceptable temperature i'll just leave the stock cooler on, and the software is indeed cuda based so i will be getting the 1060. To be fair though, this CPU is lightyears faster than my old Q6600 workstation.

Thanks again!
