Well torrent search engines such as BTdigg (rip) or TorrentProject are the closest we have to such a website. To be honest on those kinds of site I have found stuff which I haven't been able to find on private sites even. Waiting for seeders is a bitch though as it can take weeks for the only seeder to connect.

Regardless in my experience the best general "trackers" are DHT indexers.

You can't really compare music with movies. Netflix lacks a lot of releases whereas Spotify and other streaming services have a lot more (new or old). It'll take a while (years) until PTH gets a more general userbase. Right now most of the users are probably dedicated to music and have most releases. I don't get why people complain that much about a 3 month tracker though.

The problem is that WCD developed this strategy and even though it wasn't the reason they beat their competitors, they did beat their competitors while using this strategy. APL and PTH are just copying them because it's the only thing that they know works. And it's not the same as a TV or movie tracker, you can't compare them, there is way, way more music and therefore more torrents, and a lot of them are way, way smaller. There has to be a different way of managing that economy. I agree that this isn't it, it's an unfortunate situation, hopefully one of them will work it out in time.
