OP here to kick this off.

Just bought a new phone since I dropped previous one and screen is rip. Been transferring most things fine by simply plugging them both in my computer and literal click and drag. However I cannot seem to find where the contacts are stored.

Google points me to here

/data/data/android.providers.contacts/databases

But mine is different, see pic related

Old phone is galaxy s6 and new phone is LGV20, should have mentioned that.

On a semi unrelated note did I make a good choice? I feel like I did, so far liking phone although very occasionally it spazzes and freezes up. Not gonna lie one big reason I picked it was because it has a removable battery, a feature I missed on my S5 since I travel a lot for work.

I have a new USB wireless adapter, 802.11ac, which I am trying to set up as an access point to use with my 3DS.

What I initially tried was installing the Mediatek driver + utility that came with the device, but if you remove the USB device the software seems to permanently shit itself. It will never work again and the goddamn software can't even be uninstalled short of a system restore.

So next I looked up how to create a virtual hosted network, and this does work.
https://turboblaze09.wordpress.com/2014/07/12/wifi-hotspot-with-usb-wifi-adapter/
The problem is, my PC connects to the internet via a WLAN card connecting to a 5GHz frequency, and so the virtual network outputs a 5Ghz frequency also (aka 802.11n).

I need to set up a virtual network that can output 802.11g/2.4GHz instead whilst my PC connects to the 5GHz band as normal.
Is that possible via the same CMD hostednetwork function, or am I gonna have to use some other software?
The Mediatek utility was capable of doing this, but it shits itself far too easily. Pic related, it resembled this but with the Ralink branding changed.
>>
Can leaving the "stay logged in" option make you easier to hack? my dad thinks it does but it seems like bullshit.
>>
>>58951112
Also can someone explain to me if hackers actually access your computer as if using a remote access tool or is it more complicated?
>>
This might sound silly, but I don't know how virtual machine software works.

Is there any that lets you run an OS from an already made partition or hard drive? Like if I already have a Linux distro on a separate hard drive or partition is there a software that will me boot it up while I'm running Windows?

>>
>>58951102
Adding to that.

It looks like when I set up this virtual hosted network, it's actually using the same WLAN card for broadcasting.

What I want is to use the WLAN card to connect to my router's 5GHz wifi, and the USB dongle to broadcast a hosted network at 2.4GHz , is that possible?

Unfortunately this didn't work.

The first thing that page suggests is some paid software called Connectify Hotspot MAX, and then following the Windows built-in hotspot instructions that doesn't work.
Setting up a virtual hosted network whilst connected to 2.4GHz doesn't work either.

It seems like only this shitty Mediatek software is capable of setting up a working access point for my 3DS.

Believe me I'm aware it's not preferable, although circumstances changed in the house.

It used to be the router was in my room so my 3DS could get a good connection to it, but a change in ISP and new broadband line installation mean the router now has to be downstairs.

The 3DS cannot connect to the router reliably from there, but it is able to connect to the USB wifi adapted if my WLAN card is connected to the router. I just want to try and make this work instead of having to buy a wireless repeater like pic related.

Still the help is appreciated.

Repeater is not ideal, although it's not quite as bad as what you're trying. I'd consider powerline if you absolutely cant run ethernet upstairs

My Gentoo system is running way too slow. Like, much, much slower than even Ubuntu.

I'm currently using XFCE as a desktop environment. If I open the applications menu and mouse over an item, it takes 2 to 3 seconds for it to highlight / recognize that I'm mousing over it. My computer isn't exactly high end but it's always been responsive and well performing even when running bloated systems (Windows, Ubuntu). I suppose it should have at least decent performance when running a light DE (XFCE) with ~700 packages, but nope, it's sluggish as fuck for some reason.

What can be the cause of that? I have no clue which tools/files/logs to examine in order to figure out what's the problem and how to fix it.

AMD is horrible for games.

Also you are talking about 5 year old CPUs that are about to get discontinued in 2 weeks.
>>
>>58953025
Not buying, just wondering. Both cpus would perform very closely gaming-wise, yes?
>>
>>58953039
No.
FX8350 has way better single core performance.

Horrible single core performance but better than the FX-6300.

Even modern pentiums are better than both.
So are Ryzen low end CPUs for $100.

But is easy to understand if we compare 5 year old CPUs that were bad even when they got released to months old CPUs.
>>
>>58952965
Try putting your powerbutton connector on the reset pins and see if that works. If it does its the buttons themselves. As for the usb and audio idk.

But both are acceptable for most games. Just make sure to stay way the fuck away from 40+ player ARMA or and Total War game. Everything else should be just fine.

>>
>>58953678
what part don't you understand? the code you quoted allocates memory for an array of double of length 100.

dubArray1 = dubArray2
changes the reference of dubArray1 to point to dubArray2, causing the allocated memory of dubArray1 to become inaccessible.

dubArray1[75] = 9
attempts to set the value of dubArray1 at position 76, array bounds violation. This also meets criteria 4 - this program will probably crash when you run it.

>>58953678
Three is wrong even if the grader thinks otherwise. Answer four is technically right, but less specific than five, so it shouldn't exist. Only answer five is right. Arrays are indexed at zero, so an array with 75 elements goes from index 0 to index 74.

Not your personal tech support but my question might interest some people.

Computer I built suddenly not getting power after working fine for a month. Pressing the power button doesn't do anything 9 times out of 10. When pressing the button DOES do something, for a brief second the components get power and then immediately lose it. On the motherboard, the LED that indicates that its receiving power is lit up.

I thought it was the power supply so I RMA'ed it. Since then I've tried a new power supply that does work but I'm getting the same symptoms, it doesn't work.

Does anyone have any idea? Is it the motherboard? Are my components okay? Pic related, its my build.

Stupid question about CPUs and transistors.

Basically the problem is that eventually we won't be able to make smaller transistors with current tech which limits the power we can get out of the CPUs or something like that.

In that case, can't we just make the CPUs themselves larger so we can fit more transistors in them?

Didnt got answer in previous thread.

One of the software I want to use requires installation of Visual Studio 2013 Isolated Shell redistributable package.

>The Visual Studio 2013 Shell (Isolated) Redistributable Package contains the run-time binaries that are required to deploy an application that's based on the Visual Studio 2013 Shell (Isolated).

MS warns that VS collect informations about how it is being used. At the same time, on /g/ "InstallGentoo Wiki", VS is listed among recommended software. But this appears to only contain libraries.

Is it still safe to install and I wont get myself something I will have problem with removing?

most SOHO routers (like in your picture) support setting the wifi component to client mode, meaning it connects to a wifi network rather than hosting one

Win 7/8.1 telemetry updates are just updates - they can be removed like they could be year ago and like every other update, unless you got them as part of some larger update pack like the one released for Win 7.

Win 10 status is pretty much the same too - some sort of Enterprise (Ent/Edu/Ent LTSB) or bust. Pro is kinda okay, but as MS showed with Anniversary Update, they will probably shift more Policies from Pro to Enterprise only in the future. Time will tell - next "feature update" comes around April.

Said "feature updates" being new builds actually serve as some sort of reinstallation and thus install back some packages you could remove before but this just requires running PowerShell scripts prepared beforehand again. It no longer reset settings - I can confirm as I was updating two Pro and one Edu installation week ago.

And again, Enterprise can be configured to prevent nearly all communication with MS servers and rest can be blocked with properly set firewall. Just look for Technet articles, few anons already confirmed on /g/ that they failed to spot extra movement beyond what MS officially list in such articles.

Just remember that if you would happen to block connecton without disabling related services you might end having them keep trying, resulting in those infamous hundreds of connections to same adresses on net activity.

I have a desktop computer that's currently suffering some graphics related issues, on a single GTX670 + i7 3770k
after playing a game for a few minutes it will eventually crash, and cause the system to suffer intermitent lockdowns until it gets rebooted.
This usually happens around when the gpu stabilizes at 70ºc for a while, but i don't think its a overheating problem becuase 70ºc is pretty
much normal during usage afaik, and the screen doesn't even shutdown momentarely or anything, it just straight up freezes.

I also get an occasional crash on Firefox that traces to the driver dlls, clean installing the drivers didn't help (i used DDU)

Now, i have tracked down the issue pretty much to the GPU, but there's a "possibility" that's been stuck in my head, i'm most sure its stupid but here goes:

I have said Desktop, its Monitor, a TV, a Wii U and a PS4 Pro (which fills the slot of my previous PS3) connected
to the same power strip, the PSU's max Wattage is 850W.

This is stupid, i'm almost sure the answer is no, but since i got that PS4 Pro recently its making me wonder,
even because the issue happens when both the PS4 and the Wii are at their lowest power comsuption states, which for the Wii is just a fucking red led,
and the power strip's max wattage would never be exceeded by having all the systems on simultaneously, but

Could it be that the PSU isn't being provided enough power?

That error origins from the BIOS not identifying a OS to load on the target boot disc, if you have multiple discs, its possible that the bios reseted and assigned the wrong one to startup, anyway you should still be able to access the bios prior to this warning, don't you have the option to press a key about the time the image appears to enter bios configs?

I have a RAID1 array encrypted with LUKS on /dev/md0 that consists of drives /dev/sdb1 and /dev/sdc1. I unlock that array and mount it to /media/RAID1. I have an external drive that I'll mount to whatever.

I want to backup this so that I can easily fix just a single drive failing, or possibly if my entire computer is stolen or something. I'd want to do this weekly, and it's terabytes of data, so something slightly automated and that doesn't copy everything everytime would be preferable.
What's the best way to do this? I've looked around a bit and found people saying to use dd to copy the whole drive, but I'm not sure if that would maintain the encryption, and if that just works with RAID1, and if that will just copy the whole thing everytime instead of only writing the differences.

Tried all the function keys, It also Beeps Once.
I tried this while the SATA and power cables were out of the HDD, When I plugged them back in it booted to the OS thankfully

My question now;
Whats the best way to find out that the old PSU didn't take anything / corrupt any of the hardware. Thanks.

Wish i could tell you, but i'm not a psu expert like i mentioned in my question post.

I can probably help with disks / ram tho, run a pass of memtest86 to see if rams pop any errors and check the status of the discs using CrystalDiskInfo/Any other disk tool with S.M.A.R.T., CPU i heard it falls to it either works or not. Probably a nice ideia to check if all fans are spinning / check if their reporting rpm data to the system.

Any tips on my NAS build?
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Jvx6Ps

There's a curious note here which seems critical:
The motherboard M.2 slot #0 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated, two SATA 6Gb/s ports are disabled.

But... I need a fucking boot drive.

Should I just give up on the ECC shit?

A speaker blew out in my car the other day (had rockford fosgate, high end maybe?). I just went to a shop and looked at their speakers. They recommended me a set of pioneer speakers and said rockford fosgate would sound the same. The speakers are $100 (don't know the model number, just a pair of front speakers), installation is like $50 I think.

1. am i being ripped off?
2. will i notice a loss in quality going from fosgate to pioneer?

they just screening you if you are not completely retarded

1. can you communicate clearly, calmly, confidently

3. work history

maybe there might be specific questions if you are to fill a specifcic role

>>58959099
depends on what the position is

since you have no work experience, they'll ask you some questions about your classes and some situations that may have come up during a team project.

they may also ask you some questions about subject you may have learned in school. things such as "what is type safety and why does it exist" or "what is polymorphism and why would you use it".

its really easy
first thing you should know that almost any fuck up during such a small job can be covered/hidden in price range of $10. wrong hole/chipped plaster... simple easy fixes

if doing properly you likely will be putting down "Cable Covers Conduit" is what google says you call it in english. they are cheap, can be hidden, they are dozens of tipes for ceilings/corners/floor/.. or maybe you just need holes and get cables somewhere where they can run...

its really really easy and usually fun project, with simple drill and few screws and cable cover of choosing you are done in 20 min if path and everything is set...

problematic can be thick walls, where drills can be expensive, but still it should be no problem

it's hard to tell, every company is different.

in the typical phone interview they will probably ask you some personal questions (what is your greatest weakness etc), some questions about your courses (which is your favorite and why), and some technical trivia type questions about computer science or java

they may ask if you do side projects, be ready to talk about those. i doubt they'll ask gpa, don't bring it up. there'll also be time for you to ask them questions. have some good questions to ask. i usually ask things like "how do you upkeep code quality in the company", "what specific projects are you working on and do you have anything planned for the future"

pentium g4560 which is latest good shit would be good choice and save additional $50

tl;dr
>when I connect to VPN, Wi-Fi on laptop I'm using D/Cs itself.
>Disconnect from VPN = net working fine.

In a stupor one night many months ago, I messed around with some settings in the Device Manager, specifically ones pertaining to my home router.

This was all while on my laptop. My ethernet router is connected to a desktop in another room. No settings have been touched on this.

I woke up and I hazily remember it working fine, but my VPN connection ended up eventually turning toes up after another couple hazy tweeks.

Also used to be able to connect to the 5Ghz band of the wi-fi. but because i'm technologically inept, I'm stuck using 2.4Ghz. This occurred about a month or so before the VPN issue, and I must've had another hazy hand in it.

I would love to read some general ideas on how to remedy this situation.

(Win 8.1 x64-bit 2013 Toshiba Satellite P55t-A)
Upgraded Ram to 8gb
Nothing else varied other than various partitions of main drive (no other OS) to separate shit.

I can take a VLC record to show what's happening.

Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated, /g/entlemen.

The coolest change they added imo is that you can quickly look up anything before youtube's entirely loaded. And i think i noticed other cool things like that but the player definitely got fucked.
