That depends more on the phone rather than the brand you dumb pepe poster, you're right on apple though, don't buy that shit unless all you do on your phone is social media shit, gay hookups and have the money to throw away the old phone and buy the newest one as soon as said fashion accessory comes out.

The OnePlus One, Moto G1, Galaxy S5, HTC One M7 and Nexus 4 are still receiving shitloads of third party support despite being ancient by today's standards, and it seems like the Redmi Note 3 Pro is going to join them soon, notice how a samsung phone is amongst those "legendary" phones.

Both Motorola and HTC have guides on their webpages telling you exactly how to unlock the bootloader if you want to flash a rom, OnePlus doesn't but it's just as friendly, only HTC honors warranty if you unlock though.

The pixel is trash by the way.

Hmmm. I'm trying to think if it's worth paying the premium.

""" It works on public mobile, the only thing it is lacking is the 700 wireless band which some user in some older posts said it will reduce your reception in downtown building areas because 700 band is used for building penetration. Although another user said they've been using it on Rogers networkand they're getting good LTE reception and posted a speedtest of 90Mb/s (page earlier). They also posted that they're getting 45-55Mb on Public Mobile. """

ZTE Axon 7 or Huawei Mate 9 Pro or wait for the Samsung S8?

>>

I'd wait a bit but not for the S8, the thing is shaping up to be total shit, they upped the resolution but made the battery smaller, at least they didn't remove the 3.5 jack though.

Axon 7 has shit software, Mate 9 Pro is overpriced chinkshit (classic huawei).
>>
>>58878636

>Mate 9 Pro is overpriced chinkshit
It looks like it's priced between a S7 edge and probably the S8, while having specs slightly better than the S7 edge.

>>
>>58879418
Hell of a deal even if it's not exactly the best phone, the LTE version packs a SD410 with 1GB RAM/8 ROM, for example the Moto G4 Play costs 120 dollars on average and is only a marginal upgrade over it (SD410, 2/16, 720p screen, removable 2800 mAh battery).

I'd get it, the 32 sd card costs 10-15 dollars alone and moto phones have a shitload of third party support.
>>
>>58877945
Any smartphone needs a SIM card, and you'll need an appropriate plan.
Go to your provider and make sure that your plan includes calls, texts, and data
make sure that they give you the right size SIM card
they dont care what phone (they do, that's part of commissions) but really the important part is the SIM card. They couldn't give 2 shits about your phone

Xiaomeme Mi Mix Pro ($1150AUD) vs Galaxy S8 ($???)

I'd easily get the Mi Mix if the Galaxy S8 weren't coming out soon. But I know the Mi Mix still has a better battery and overall better looks. It's also highly durable and scratch resistant, the only weakness being the glass-to-ceramic edges (which the included case fixes).

I'm not a fan of the curved edges on the S7/S8 either, but it seems the S8 does have less bezel and a better camera.

This explains it pretty well
http://www.androidauthority.com/high-capacity-microsd-cards-android-gary-explains-690710/

If it says "up to 32gb" it means the phone only supports the SDHC standard. It will accept larger size cards but only when formatted as FAT32. Phones that support the SDXC standard will accept microSD cards up to 2TB without needing formatting.

>Technically any Android device which supports SDXC couldadvertise “expandable storage via microSD card up to 2TB.”But because 2TB microSD cards don’t exist (yet), most OEMs will say something like “expandable storage via microSD card up to 128GB” where the “128GB”bit could be a different capacity depending on when the device was released and what is the highest current microSD capacity that is commercially available.

It doesn't work like that. You can't make any judgement on photo quality on the amount of megapixels alone. Which phones have the best cameras at the moment? Samsung S7, iPhone 7 and Google Pixel. All have 12mp cameras. Redmi Note 3 has a 16mp camera, surely it's good? Nope, it's shit.

With android the closest you'll get to those specs is Sony Xperia Z5 Compact and X Compact. They're 4.6" and have fingerprint readers. Z5 is waterproof, X isn't.

Pic related. From 3:15 AM to 7:30 AM everything was going great, but then at around 7:30 AM the phone started waking up and the battery started getting drained a lot. I lost more than 10% in 5 hours. My battery is already a piece of shit. I don't want it to get drained this much when I'm not touching the phone.

I thought writing in euro currency would give it away I'm european but obviously idiots still miss it. You don't know my carrier's offers and it's like 10 percent more expensive in the end. For convenience of paying 200€ when buying and then the amount I literally wouldn't notice if someone stole from me each month, I go for it. Now I know flipping burgers you can't afford ALL OF THAT MASSIVE SPENDINGS, but mechanical engineers working in first world countries earn enough not to care. I'm currently running an ancient Desire HD with cyanogen I picked up for 50 yuroshekels a few years ago. It's decent enough for phone calls, messaging and emails. Unfortunately, I can practically watch the available RAM go down by the week at this point and the guys building cyanogen might not make the switch to lineage, so I'd like to replace the phone.

I'm planning to get another used older phone for around that price as an upgrade and flash cyanogen/lineage again. Any recommendations? A replaceable battery is the only thing I'm set on.

I'm in the US, on straight talk.
I want to get a new smartphone, looking at the Moto G4+ or possibly the 1+3t.
Prefer to keep it less than $400.

I basically just want a decently fast phone that's easily rootable and has a few ROMs.
Needs 3.5 jack
A good battery
Camera not important
Micro SD a plus but not a must.

I had a ZTE zmaxx2 which was OK, but I bricked it, and got a cheap straight talk phone (a Alcatel onetouch) to get by. The thing is, this cheap thing gets so much better service than the ZTE. Both are straight talk branded.

So I'd like a phone that has good GSM straight talk service.

Can I ask about tablets in here? Tablets are kind of like phones, right?

I've never had any interest in tablets because I never thought that it was useful to have something that was in between a phone and a laptop in functionality, but now I find myself wanting one and I don't know anything about them. I've been day trading on the stock market with Robinhood, which is a stock broker that uses a mobile app as its interface. I'm tired of staring into my phone all day. I could use an Android emulator, but I want a touch screen, so I'm thinking about buying a cheap tablet to keep on a stand at my desk. I can continue to use my phone when I'm not at my desk.

It needs to connect to WiFi, run one app, and be secure, meaning that it should run a recent version of Android and be able to for the duration of its lifespan. It'd be nice if I could use custom ROMs. I'd like a large screen, and I want it to be dirt cheap. I don't care about mobile networking, battery life, or computational power beyond what's necessary to run the operating system smoothly and continue to for some time.

Recommendations?

idk about moto g4 specifically but i think it's a widespread problem, just that normies and reviewers can't recognize it because it looks fine for most purposes which don't involve rapid movements. are OLED/daydream-ready devices better at this? you'll still have the sample-and-hold blur effect but i'd imagine that an OLED display will be better in terms of pixel response time.

>According to LG, OLED response times are up to 1,000 times faster than LCD, putting conservative estimates at under 10 μs (0.01 ms), which could theoretically accommodate refresh frequencies approaching 100 kHz (100,000 Hz).

>4.7" no larger
>metal frame
>high pixel density (im myopic as fuck and can see them even on "retina" displays)
>Good power management
>Good memory management
>comes in silver/white/not jet black
>fingerprint reader
>square but not sharp edges. Think galaxy A7.

What is a deal breaker:
>giganto phablet displays
>shit battery life
>heating issues
>100% plastic
>squirctangle shape

720p is ok
Camera could be mediocre
Please no hardware buttons unless capacitive and the backlight can be turned off.

So far the galaxy alpha fits these requirements but has touchwiz and a locked bootloader which makes it rather unattractive. However it's the perfect form factor.
I was also looking at HTC one m7 and m8.
ALSO if it looks too much like an iphome knock off... I don't want it

I recalled these browsers having Google sync but apparently that changed recently
http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/01/24/google-shuts-off-chrome-sync-api-third-party-browsers-android-citing-security-vulnerability/

Security vulnerability my ass, they just want people to use their botnet browser. I'd switch away but having everything synced between all my devices is just too convenient to give up

Check out Xperia X compact, the pixel density looks subpar though

Easy, just three things:

Not larger than moto g first gen
Top tier camera
Removable SD

How is the Xperia X (Not compact)? It's 50 USD cheaper than the compact, but it seems like the compact has better build quality.
>>
>>58899879
Wait. New SoC are die shrunk to 10nm
>>
>>58899879
Wait at until this year's models have been announced. Even if you decide they're not worth getting the previous years phones will go down in price.

>>58899831
Motorola has basically stock android with a few tweaks, Oneplus also but with a lot of customisation options. Out of the non-stock Android skins I'd say HTC's Sense and Sony's Xperia UI are the nicest.

>>58900015
It's a nice phone. Doesn't do anything spectacularly well but not bad either.

>>58899928
Sony Xperia Z5 Compact or X Compact

>>
>>58901059
Cut my micro sim to nano. Kind of works, but ordering a new sim is usually better.
>>
>>58901059
I've cut a standard SIM to micro SIM and it worked just fine. You might be better off getting a SIM card cutter. Nowadays the SIM cards you get from carriers are precut do you can just snap out the size you need.

Are there any decent phones with a <=5'' display for under 500CAD? If I buy an older android (like 2015?) and install an older rom on it, will it run just as well as a new phone? I don't play games; aside from calling and texting, I just use my phone for reading, taking pictures and listening to audiobooks.

Is there a way to restore specific files from a TRWP backup on the desktop? I fucked up by upgrading to 5.1.1 on a Note 4 and I can't flash back to 5.0.1. I did a restore and it only seemed to restore applications. If I lost the pictures, then I would be sad.

Locally:
Moto G4 / G4 Play (though you might want to wait for Moto G5 series)
Huawei / Honor phones
Galaxy J5 2016

Chinkphones:
Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition
Oukitel K6000 Pro

I own a galaxy alpha which I now realize was the first of series. A5 seemed great, so I compared it to my alpha and found out it really isn't better for my needs. I guess samsung wanted to get the cost down on the later models? I'll probably buy another alpha. Could use more ram but I dont want the larger displays.
>>
>>58901583
Which A5 did you compare it to? There's several versions, the original A5 from 2014, A5 (2016) and the just-released A5 (2017).

i only have mi5s plus and it's different to mi5s so i can't judge mi5s directly. the camera should be ok, maybe not the best but still good. i think the main complaint from reviewers is the lack of image stabilization which gives shaky video. pic related was just a casual pic that i wasn't planning to post online. i resaved it in gimp with lower quality (but it's otherwise unedited) because it was 4.18 MB and /g/ has a 4 MB size limit

My phone (pic related) is going fuckign crazy.
I need a new phone:
>preferably 1080p screen, AMOLED would be nice but it doesn't have to be
>at least 2 GB of RAM
>SD card slot
>5" to 5.2"
>preferably not a chinkphone
Budget: ~€350

Does an LG V10 still boot loop on custom Roms?
>>
>>58901719
Flipboard is pretty nice
>>
LG has sent my phone back twice saying they replaced the defective LCD when they haven't. Should I make a big deal about it and threaten them with the BBB for a free upgrade or something or would that just be a waste of time?

I had to take off work for an hour both times to sign for the package
>>
>>58902374
Yes, the bootlooping is hardware related so a custom ROM won't fix it.
