Windows performs better than any unix distro, and that more reliably while lincucks don't even have basic features and their os regularly breaks.
For the most mundane tasks you need to google for hours and install countless packages and hacks only to find out that "thing" is not supported anymore and there are no alternatives. About 2 or 3 years ago.Windows 8 didn't work well on my laptop and it was constantly running into problems. Installed Xubuntu and everything just werked. ad to learn some Unix commands, but it's been nice so far. I switched to Debian for stability an haven't touched Windows since. I'm learning C and LISP and managed to learn a decent amount .If I want to play games, I just use Snes7x, Dolphin, PCSX(2) and Dosbox (along with Wine for Cave Story). Later I grew up further and learned not everything can Linux efficiently, but all OS's (except Android or Google's new OS to replace Android) can be configured to respect your freedom if you know what you're doing. Two years ago my toaster desktop started to show its age. What was once 8GBs of RAM became 2GBs. Windows ran like shit. Eventually my hard drive died and when I got a new one I didn't have to bother about backing up literally everything to try Linux which I was always interested in because of ricing. I tried Ubuntu first but thought it was ugly. Then I tried every *buntu* variant because I didn't know DEs were just something you installed. I eventually landed on Ubuntu MATE which was the best in terms of both performance and appearance.

Eventually, I got a new laptop and desktop and tried every obscure distro you could think of before settling on vanilla Fedora which continues to give me the most stable, "just works" experience. If it's not screentearing with one distro, it's something else.

I still use Windows from time to time and it's nice to boot into 10 and see what's new after a big update. I don't see moving from Windows as an "upgrade" or anything, because I'm not a kid. It's just another OS.

How so? Before Windows 10's new stock apps you always needed to rely on third party programs for basically everything outside of file browsing. I'm using Fedora and I can start recording my desktop out of the box with a simple keyboard shortcut. The only distros that "regularly break" are rolling releases and that's if you're unlucky. Adding to that, if you think Linux's rolling releases are unstable, try Windows 10's technical previews, the closest analogue to a rolling release distro.

Though kernel updates can break fixed releases occasionally, in that case... just boot using the previous kernel. Not ideal, but oh well.

I partially gave up Windows in the 1990s and dual booted Linux, then completely gave it up and used BeOS for a while. After that I switched to FreeBSD and OS X.

I keep an XP VM around for gaymen and running certain proprietary radio programming software but that's it.

Was using Linux on my laptop since about 11 since it wasn't good enough to run windows. Started using windows occasionally to play games when I was older, I dual boot now days.
