Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.
https://pcpartpicker.com

Have a budget, but don't know where to start? This will recommend you a parts list based on price.

Finally up and running.

H100i v2 cooling a i5 6600k OCed to 4.4ghz. 16gb ddr43000, RX480 Nitro OC all cram packed into a Nano S. I feel like I made good decisions with this build. I'm a fag who avoids cell phones so I might have to have a friend with a digital camera take some pics of the inside.

I was also the guy who was posting in here about struggling to my GPU into the slot. It turns out the bracket on the GPU was bent. That would be why it wasn't fitting.

Performance is pretty great. At idle it's completely silent, as to where my ceiling fan is the loudest thing in my room.

How does this look? Going to be using Windows 7 as an OS and I plan on getting another 1080 around June. Also may change to completely liquid later in the year.
>>
>>58842167
Get 3000 RAM and Toshiba or Hitachi HDD, PSU is overkill, 850W should be more than enough.
EVGA ships with thermap pads now, but i wouldn't buy current GPUs from them. Look for Asus, Palit, Zotac, etc.

Am I good to go?
>>
Just did my first full computer build spending $1200 and I think I did a pretty good job aside from going overkill with the cpu and getting an i7 instead of an i5 with a 8gb 480 (also a waste of money from what I've read compared to 4gb).

I am so incredibly excited for this. My computer is constantly struggling and I have been random blue screening quite frequently on this build I've had since 2009. I plan to let my new computer last me another 7+ years with small upgrades rather than another entirely new build.
>>
>>58842327
wait what's wrong with thermap pads?
>>
>>58841655

Build request here if any of you have a little free time. Would greatly appreciate it.

I need the cheapest and smallest desktop PC that can be built. CPU must be a socketed Intel Core 2 Duo of some kind. Minimum of 2GB of RAM. I don't need a hard drive included either. Ports needed are VGA (x1), PS/2 (x1) and USB type A (x2). If a GPU will cost more than $10-15, I could live with integrated graphics. I also don't mind buying used parts. Bonus points if the mobo supports Core/Libreboot or any other alternative firmware.

Thanks.

Personally i'm not a fan of Gigabyte GPUs, maybe get something else, but that's up to you.

>>58842489
>thermap pads
Thermal pads, of course. Thing with EVGA 1070 and 1080 cards was that the VRM was not properly cooled and it was possible for it to catch fire.
EVGA quickly responded to this issue and gave buyers thermal pads and ships new cards this them already applied.
While this essentially solves the problem, i'd stay clear of EVGA for this iteration of Nvidia GPUs.

Well just like most game laptops, they put something baller into it only to skimp out on other things bottle necking the performance. The gpu won't get you far, and 8gb is fairly low for a newer computer, but the price seems accurately weighted for the pieces seperately plus assembly

>>
>>58842825
Not necessarily, but with such a powerful processor the main drawback is the gpu in this case. I would still say that based on pricing for everything separately, you're getting a fair deal
>>
>>58842790
You should turn off power management anyways on a desktop
Do you like your peripherals shutting off for no reason?
>>
>>58842790
For real? Are memes escaping to reality again? I understand the social media part, i don't have an account other than one required for work and one for shitposting, but you should get a smartphone m8.
Believe it or not, but i didn't have a smartphone until this year, i had a Sony Ericsson C510, and i'm 23.
But i learned to appreciate it, it's an invaluable tool for work and college and also allows for mobile shitposting.
Maybe you find someone who wants to sell his ancient C2D on ebay, craiglist or whatever you have in US.

>>58842812
With RX480 G1 certainly is something wrong. See weirdo PCB / OC guy on jewtube.
>>
>>58842829
>>58842875
Power management as in the CPU cores will shut off after 30 minutes without the Intel management engine on newer Intel CPUs. That's no good if I want to have this computer I requested running all the time. The management engine has full memory and TCP/IP stack access, and can send and receive network packets regardless of OS firewall. This PC needs to be completely secure, and it's not the government I'm afraid of.

>>58842843
If you want to live under the boot, that's your choice.
>>
>>58842918
Then you shouldn't be building your own PC with consumer parts. I'm sure your company knows better than you if they're the ones requiring you to get this
But they never said no Intel management engine, and they're probably using 7/XP on haswell CPUs
>>
>>58842902
>With RX480 G1 certainly is something wrong

yeah but not the GTX1070 - their G1s are perfectly fine
>>
>>58842869
>should I just get the i5 and wait to see what Ryzen brings us
yes
the 2500k still lives on despite being an i5
i7 is only if you're streaming at the same time or using other processor intensive tasks, for just gaming i5 is sufficient
>>
>>58842918

>>58842985
I have no expertise in building computers, but have modified plenty and there's a couple of things you're doing here that are not going to be a good idea in the long run because you're trying to lowball it. The PSU is cutting it extremely close which means if you want to make any upgrades, you'll likely have to buy another psu which is a bit of a waste imo. Don't get that cpu cooler, there's much better options around the same value.

Other than that, if you're going to be playing video games, there's better choices than the 1050. Logical increments may be a good place to look for some help and then change things to what you would want. They're fairly trustworthy

they're not unpopular, quite the opposite. They're getting more and more popular every year.

It's just that /g/ has a very american mentality when it comes to computers, they want the biggest they can find because they believe big=powerful

pic related, do you think an American would ever think this is an acceptable 1st car for anyone? Of course not, they would choose a huge old Mustang because it's bigger and therefore looks more powerful

People think there's some kind of compromise to be made when you go ITX, the only valid one being two DIMM slots if you're going to be using mainly SATA storage and a single GPU.

None of the K series processors come with a cooler or a fan. I'm just saying that if you wanted to replace the fan on the H7 and you wanted to keep the ricing thing going, the Noctua fan is a good replacement.

H7 is a better cooler overall because it has a flat baseplate and that allows better thermal paste spread.

Benchmarks don't tell the full picture, and they can often be nvidia-biased. In general, they are neck and neck with some differences depending on the game.
480 is somewhat stronger than the 470, but is not as good a value unless you go with the 8GB version. Both are better value than the 1060 6GB. Basically if you want future-proof 1080p, probably go for 480 8GB. Only go for 1070 if you plan to go 1440p; it's overkill for 1080p.

go on ebay and look for a prebuilt refurbished PC with an old i5 in it and get a GPU with it you can easily spend less than 300 all together. A modern build from newegg with a skylake i5 and a 1050 ti would be about 500-600 with minimalist peripherals.

The older H110 mobos need a bios update, and you cannot update a bios unless you have a functional CPU.

AMD said the 470 is a 1440p card
That being said it does badly, expect lowered settings or sub-60 framerates
Also PCIe x16 3.0 to 2.0 shouldn't be a problem, as of now it's only 2.0 x8 or below that is a bottleneck, and even then it's a 3% loss at worst case scenario

Yes it is.
Make sure you have a decent cpu too for those framerate

Any suggestions?

A small hassle (remove cooler, take out CPU, clean off TIM, put in new CPU, apply TIM, attach cooler).
You usually dont unless you have an old mobo and you're getting a new generation CPU (for example if you have z170 mobo and want to upgrade to 7th gen CPU you have to flash bios first).

There needs to be some kind of build in the OP for all the people who ask "How can I make this build cheaper?" when they've spent more than $1000 and only get like a Skylake i5 and RX 470

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zQ9FxY

Add more RAM, storage and whatever case you need according to your budget but this is about as much of a bang for your buck you're going to get with a Kaby Lake i5 and an RX 480.

Lol no. Skylake has better performance for money.
Mobos are cheaper, CPUs are cheaper, doesn't require a stronger cooler like Kelvin Lake does and is about 1-5% worse in games while you can easily save 10% in cost.
The only Kaby Lake CPU with good performance for money is the Pentium G4560.

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-6700K/3647vs3502

7% more performance for less than $20 more is better performance for the money, sorry.

CPU cost to CPU cost doesn't cut it.
You need to factor in the increased mobo and cooler costs. 7% more performance for $100-$250 more is not worth it.

>>
>>58853110
I mean I must be missing something here. The CPU, GC, and RAM are reasonable price/performance choices, with the other parts being cheap middle of the road platforms to support them. Sure the cooler is poor and the PSU isn't a big name brand, sure I went with 5200rpm for the storage drive, but I made sure all the parts are compatible and fit in the case, I made sure the H110m supports Kaby-Lake, I even made sure I didn't overshoot and buy a 1080 because I know I don't need 4k or VR. What you're saying is that you don't think I'm worth talking to because I didn't post a build with 4 Xeons, no cooler, a $1000 mobo and some gaming cancer case?

Well from the way you phrased you initial response I've made the assumption that I made an error in judgement in my build. The only thing I can really see somebody taking issue with is the 7700, and that's such a subjective "error" that I can't conceive how somebody would label it as bait. So I say "attempted" because clearly in your eyes, in some way, I have failed. But instead of helping to address and rectify my error, you continue to skate around it, expending more effort in rebuffing me than you spend scrubbing yourself during your weekly shower. Funny image though, I'll give you that.
