Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

>To activate the Description, select build from sidebar then click on the title over the parts list
>Description contains notes, other options, and build skeleton for easy customization / cost savings
>Note: Win7 and 8.1 cannot be installed on a 200 series chipset

Have a budget, but don't know where to start? This will recommend you a parts list based on price.

>Subsitute a G4560 with 2400MHz RAM for any Pentium or i3; similar performance, up to 50% cost reduction.
>Consider using an i5 7500 in any RX470/480 or GTX 1060 tier build
>Consider stock fan+heatsink for any i3 or locked i5 build without a Z mobo
>Consider a B250 or mobo for any Pentium or i3 build
>Add a 240GB SSD to the "Very Good" tier build
>The only worthwhile gfx cards are the GTX1050, RX470, RX480, GTX1060 6GB

Kaby Lake has been released! Skylake is depreciated if corresponding chips are similarly priced (e.g., i5 7600K vs i5 6600K)!
>Some motherboards will have a one-click, 5GHz on air OC button that works for 80% of i5 7600Ks
>100 series chipsets (Z170, B150, ect) don't work out of the box with Kaby Lake
>Z series chipsets have an "Enhanced Turbo", which allows all cores to run at the highest single core boost clockspeed (works for Skylake CPUs as well)
>Pentiums now have hyperthreading, and are thus the new default budget / entry level gaming CPUs
>Pentium G4560 is the best price / perf four thread CPU on a modern platform
>All Kaby Lake CPUs work natively with 2400MHz DDR4 memory
>Do not underestimate the impact of fast (>2400, e.g, 3000MHz) RAM in conjunction with a Z series chipset, which often provides as much of a performance boost as a CPU overclock
>>
Put together a list to maybe help out an anon looking for a semi-budget rig that performs well. - $735 not including the OS
>https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9xCgpb
Yes yes, I know, "but the 8350 is shit!" "am3 socket is dead!" But there's a few things to consider here; we're talking in the budget range of i3's and maybe MAYBE low-clock i5's but with some major component compromises. Benchmarks are showing the 8350 will outperform in a lot of cases even the overclockable kaby lake i3 at a much lower cost, which is the whole point of this.
The whole reason I did this list was because I saw that massive deal on that 990fx msi motherboard that should allow some really aggressive overclocks if you have the guts to do it, or just really stable overclocks at modest Freq/Volts.

What do you think? Case was kind of a crapshoot.

Well it might stop being enough for ultra settings sooner than you think. If you are okay with lowering the settings or resolution, then you might do fine with it for a while.
It's also not like a the performce automatically shits itself down to 10 fps when the vram is exceeded a little.

I intend to play games mostly. Some titles at lower settings obviously. I think the GPU may need an upgrade but keeping the price down is important. Anywhere else I could skimp?

That old mamasan they had doing the AMD product launch comparing Ryzen to a Skylake CPU only for the Ryzen to lose, well that doesn't seem too convincing. Hello friends, quick question that I'm sure is asked a lot. I have an i5-6500 in a rosewill tyrfing case. I live in the south where even with my wall A/C it gets pretty hot.

Guys I just built my first PC, I bought, a FX4300, GTX 960, 600 PSU

Now just 2 days later I start it up, open H1Z1, after 1 minute.of being in game.it crashes my system, nothing I can, not even get to task manager.

So I turn it off and back on and no detection from my monitor, and loud fast fans.

I can only think it's my motherboard that's fucked up right? I changed ram and still no fix. So it's either motherboard or GPU correct?

I'm thinking its my motherboard cause even when I turn it on my Bluetooth mouse/keyboard doesn't sync, even though the power is there.

Please help bros, thanks.

>>
>>58824041

Yes I used anti static thingy on my wrist and it's been working fine for past 2 days, I was just waiting for more ram, installed that today and it worked fine until H1Z1 crashed it.

I thought maybe it's the RAM so I took it out and put the old one back on but nope still no detection from my monitor, tried different HDMI cable, maybe it's the GPU, but in the back of my mind I doubt it.

It must be the motherboard since it can't even detect my keyboard and mouse with the dongle in.

Right, right guys?, Ive ordered a new motherboard from Amazon prime, so should be here tomorrow I hope this is the issue

I have 3 GTX 980's installed in a Supermicro X10DRi (EATX) in a Phantek Enthoo Pro case. The middle card (unsurprisingly) is throttling. The bottom card gets pretty hot too because it is right up against the PSU shield. There are no fan mounts on the sides of the case so I am trying to increase airflow in the best way possible using the bottom or top fan mounts. These cards exhaust away from the motherboard so I'm not sure if adding fans that blow across the exhaust path would just cause the hot air to swirl around the case.

I'm not really sure what the best solution is, any ideas?
>>
So the post about the Acer Aspire above got me thinking. I want to upgrade from my rig I built a few years ago with a i5 3570k, 8 GB RAM and Radeon HD 7850. Would it be a bad idea to just buy this for €525, reuse the PSU from my current rig and buy an 8 GB RX480 for the rest of my budget instead of trying to build an equivalent build for that price? I've already got a bunch of fully functioning parts, I just want to upgrade my CPU and GPU.

The cheapest rig I can build with a core i5 and RX480 would cost around €850 and that's without any storage since I already have the HDD and a SSD.

What you need to do is either buy two 120mm industrial-grade fans that spin up to 3000rpm for the front air vent or get rid of the middle 980.
If I remember correctly, one of the server racks I worked on last year disabled the salad spinners on their Quadro M6000s, removed the metal covers on the cards, and let their 80mm Delta fans do all the air pushing over the two main heatsinks.

You might have to consider water-cooling loops if you want to keep all three cards nice and cool.

My trusty i5 2500k is nearing the end of its life. It has served me well all these years, even with a moderate OC and a mediocre cooler. It began it's partnership with a 550ti, and has since upgraded to a 470.
My (tentative) planned upgrade path is:
-april-
Ryzen 8core or perhaps a 6core
am4 mobo
2x8gb of DDR4 RAM
m.2 drive

-october-
Vega GPU (but who knows what will be best in 8 months)
4k monitors

What do you guys do with obsolete computer parts? I already have a Samba server running on power efficient hardware, no need more better hardware. Gave my 550ti to my little cousin.

Going all out on pretty much everything as I intend to use this for 5 to 10 years through uni (majoring in maths/physics) and well into a job. Also for gaming.

Is there sufficient wattage for an additional 1080 in future?

Could two 1080s give 144fps at 2k res?

Reckon the CPU cooler would fit with the RAM on the motherboard? advice would be great especially if anyone has a similar build

Sorry I didnt pay close enough attention at first. The Z270 mobos are for overclocking you need a chip that says K to do that. Get a B250 mobo and save yourself money.

Consider an m.2 drive
That keyboard is overpriced, check the keyboard general
Ram and cooler will fit fine
Not the case I would choose, but it should be fine
Consider some good quality fans

And the best advice: don't splurge on a 1080 right now, if you have a card to tide you over for a few months you can save a lot of money, or for the same price get better performance.
>>
>>58831280
I'm happy with the transfer speeds of a regular SSD. Does m.2 have any advantage over an SSD besides transfer speeds?
Cheers about the keyboard advice
Again cheers, clearence was my biggest worry
I had a few other cases in mind but that was the cheapest one I could find that had two USB 3.0 ports to go with the mobo, I've checked clearence and compatibility with all components
Also cheers

I have no card. This will be funded with scholarship money so I don't mind overspending. I won't be purchasing this until April-ish though so I'll keep an eye out for GPU alternatives, cheers
>>
>>58831215
The only immediate problem is you have a Freesync monitor with an Nvidia card and your 150 dollar meme case wont ship until August.

However:
>You dont need an i7 even with physics and math applications which I also use.
>Dont get an 850 evo when you can get a 500gb ssd for the same price and youll never know the difference
>50 dollar cpu fan on a 500 dollar cpu

And the biggest is youre buying this whole system right before Ryzen and Vega drop and massively reduce prices in the intel and Nvidia dominated high end markets. Wait a few months and youll have comparable performance for 1000 dollars less.

It's not US format for dates. 08/02 is February 8th in most countries that aren't the US.

>Freesync monitor with an Nvidia card
Didn't know they had compatibility issues, I'll look into it, thanks

>dont need an i7
I figured it would give me the longest lifetime and best performance which is what I'm aiming for since it's basically funded with free money

>Dont get an 850 evo
I saw all/most of the builds in the OP had evo SSDs so I figured it was a highly reputable and well-built SSD which is preferable over cost for me

>50 dollar cpu fan on a 500 dollar cpu

I bought a macbook pro the other day. It was the worst mistake of my life. I don't even know why I bought a laptop at all. I've always been a desktop user.

I'm going to return it tomorrow. Thank god for the 14 day return window. Now I have 2000 fucking dollars to spend on a new PC. I specced it out and it comes to about 1000 dollars for what I want. What do you think? THis is the most I've ever spent on a PC.

Core i5 7600k
16GB of ram
1TB HDD WD blue
nvidia 1060
corsair 100r case
corsair 550W psu

Is corsair still a good brand for PSUs? I haven't built a PC in about 3 years.

If you're getting this "static pressure only" thing from the Overclock.net guys, don't bother. As long as they aren't the thin-blade propeller kind, anything goes. Look for a fluid dynamic bearing as well or another quality bearing technology.

So I'm looking to replace all my case fans and do a mild refresh of my build in the hopes I can make it substantially quieter. Problem being is I suspect that Intel will be releasing Cannonlake toward the end of the year, and naturally I have to best my friend's recently built rig. As such my commitment to adopting Cannonlake are sealed. My problem is I've never used aftermarket CPU cooling solutions, so I don't know whether the mounting methods remain consistent between sockets or if most manufacturers offer a new mounting bracket to accommodate the new sockets assuming they use a different screw pattern. Anybody got any input or should I just hold my fucking horses and deal with the shit bearings rattling around in my case?

is the i3 7100 any good? I'm looking for an upgrade to my i5 4590 and been wondering if I should get that one or the i5 7400.

To be honest, I didn't even want to upgrade now but since I'm making a mini ITX build I'll have to buy a new mobo to fit it, and 1150 mobos are dated and as expensive as 1151 ones, so yeah, upgrading the CPU is an unfortunate necessity.
>>
>>58834199
No point in going from an i5 to an i3 unless you only do things like playing video games and no content creation
>>
>>58833895
TNs are kinda shitty, buddy has one and the light leak is beyond noticeable and can be pretty distracting depending on the tone of the displayed image. It's relatively old, so maybe take my advice with a grain of salt but my Vizio E32 beats it out with insofar as leaks/blacks. If I were you I'd wait for Samdung to drop some newer smaller panels with their Quantum Dot tech as they are a really good middle ground boasting a 100hz refresh with reasonable blacks and great color accuracy and from what I could tell no leaks.
>>
Sup gents!
I am going to be upgrading my cpu (and mobo+ram) to i7-7700k next week - could you advise me on RAM ?

I am thinking of getting 32GB of DDR4 - what sort of clockspeed should the DDR4 be ?

Any issues with i7-7700k using higher clockspeed ram than 2400mhz (was just looking at the intel website spec).

Also is 32gb an OK idea? I realise it is a bit of an overkill but then so is K series so I guess I have a little bit of extra cash.

Completely depends on usage. 16GB leaves comfortable breathing room for just gaming, even 8GB is still adequate.

http://www.samsung.com/us/computing/monitors/curved/34--cf791-wqhd-monitor-lc34f791wqnxza/

That's the panel I got to play with. I couldn't give an honest answer about the curve though; frankly it's pretty useless. With a more aggressive curve and a closer viewing distance you could fill more negative space in the peripheral, they're a ways from that though. but the 21:9 ratio was really impressive just because it filled more of the field of view. The resolution is the only off-putting feature. You can pump out Overwatch with a 1070 easily enough, even reaching 100fps, but other more taxing games simply can't take advantage of the monitor due to the high resolution at which point you're given a couple of shitty options (scaling, lowering settings). I'm really hoping they'll release a similar panel with a more conservative resolution for gaming as I was legitimately impressed overall.

Yo, how does this deal look guys? (pic)

im using a D15 because fuck that other shit.

Price: $2100

comes with a full 3 year insurance and is prebuilt.

for price reference, heres a build i made myself finding cheap parts, no insurance or prebuild, though (note the i5):

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rTjq7h

costs $1800

not your ordinary question, but i guess i just wanna know if the prebuilt is retarded, and if the +$300 is worth the cpu upgrade, insurance, prebuild and gayass bonus components.

thanks in advance if anyone can help!
>>
>>58837808
PSU is trash and 2.1k is just retarded. CPU is only worth it if you're going to use it, insurance is hardly worth it and gayass bonus components are gayass.
>>
>>58837808
Insurance? Against what? If it's the "send it in, we fix it" meme, not worth the extra money, you can fix it yourself. They'll most likely just jew you if something breaks outside of warranty anyway.

If you have to ask, the CPU upgrade isn't worth another 120 bucks. I've been happy with my razer mousepad, but you probably don't need it.

What would be interesting are the PCIe SSD, as it's faster than the SSD you picked. Oh, and never cheap out on the HDD.

Build it yourself, it's really not hard.
>>
>>58837978
what do you mean the PSU is bad, whats bad about it? and yeah, 2.1k is a lot of money, but pc parts have always been retardedly expensive in Denmark.

>>58837997

its the "send it in, we fix it", idk if thats a meme or not, had friends use that insurance before. i shit you not its this expensive here, insurance is easily 10-15% more, no joke.
its 3 years of insurance, doesnt seem that bad to me.

not that worried about building, its just an added bonus i suppose.

That's probably not really an insurance though, they just handle warranty for you and install the parts.

I'd get a 3TB HGST Deskstar, WD Red or Seagate. Seagates failing left and right is a meme, they're as good or bad as WD these days, HGST is top tier.

If your budget allows it get the i7-6700K. You'll appreciate the additional threads when rendering your videos, also helps with some games such as Total War.

>i already have a seagate SSHD in the deal, why change to a HDD of the same brand?
I meant if you decided to build it yourself, I'd switch out the Toshiba HDD for a HGST, WD or Seagate. Simply because I've never had one of these 3 fail on me, so that's just my opinion.

>>58838747

thats a super cool list actually, i'm gonna try finding an updated version, if one exists, anyways, im gonna skip out on this deal thing, i forget that pc parts that arent shit quality, dont tend to break and eat shit often enough to justify the insurance desu.

HGST/Hitachi > Toshiba > WD and Seagate. Personally i'd rather buy Toshibas P300 series and call it a day than buy some ancient Hitachi 7K2000 or 7K3000 leftovers.
If i'd go full good goy and spend a ridiculous amount of shekels i'd consider only HGST, though, namely the newer 7K6000.

HGST makes excellent HDDs, the Deskstar NAS should be slower than the P300, but generally of higher quality. Price is stupid though.

7K2000 should be from around 2010, has lower amount of cache and should be generally more noisy and slower.
