Syncthing isn't downloading from F-Droid on my Moto G4 and now I'm afraid I'll have to go deeper into the botnet. I have been trying to avoid pairing a Google account to this phone for paranoid neckbeard reasons. the only reason I have a smartphone in the first place it's because I hate texting on a future phone and my normie family communicates to me through SMS, I also wanted a pocket-sized text editor. The G4's physical size makes it a little better at it than other smartphones.

I know retarded to be concerned about privacy when you have a smartphone but this is /g/ and I know you guys are paranoid neckbeards. how do I get software from Google Play while still being a paranoid neckbeard?
**especially concerned about my contacts and calendar events. I know Google will try to copy that shit**
>>
>>58782632
>what's an acceptable size or limit?
That's completely down to your own preference, I've got tiny girl hands and yet I'm completely comfortable with a 5.5" size phone, some other people feel that anything over 5" is too big.
>>
>>58782632
Go to a store and try demo models of different sizes

I'm currently using a Nexus 5x, but I'm not very satisfied with the battery life. What is the most efficient custom ROM + kernel that I can use for maximum battery life? I don't do anything super intensive so performance isn't an issue as long as the response is still snappy.

Can I buy a replacement smartphone camera? The one on my axon broke after a drop. The lens cover looks undamaged, so I assume the issue is the actual lens on the camera.
>pic related

The camera pops off of the motherboard very easily via a connector. I was wondering about the difficulty and price of procuring a replacement.
>>
>>58783840
If it can come off the motherboard then yes, there will be spare parts available. No idea where but they'd exist.

How long do you guys keep your phones? I'm thinking of replacing my 4 year old Samsung Galaxy S4 since its gone down the shitter.

What are some good phones (max $250) that have a good camera, good battery life and is at least 5"?
>>
>>58784144
I'm in the same boat as you. I was either thinking of going all out and getting a LG V20, Getting a used s5 for the 100x better screen or OP3 but maybe not since theres not even a sd card slot. My s4 runs well on CM13 but I feel like I need to upgrade because the screen ruins the battery life and idk, upgrade time and turn my s4 into a music player.

If you find anything decent let me know.

Redmi Note 3 Pro International Edition or Redmi 4 Pro? Currently have a Redmi 3 16gb/2gb and it's getting pretty fucking unbearable due to ram management even with miui optimisation off.
They're both similarly priced in AUD

at some point they changed the answering to where you swipe up to pick up. as it stands i'm able to do this succesfully maybe 10% of the time. but i receive so few calls (and attempt to answer even fewer) that i have had very limited tries to troubleshoot it so i have no clue if it is just me doing the gesture wrong or there's something wrong with the phone

Using Xperia Z1 for years now.
Though there are many new models in the Xperia series, I never have any performance issues caused by my phone.

Of course there are phones out there with higher performance hardware, but it seems like this is not enough to make the software faster.

From my job I always get the new iPhones, and I also tried the newer Xperias - and I know I would lie to myself if I would say that there is a big difference.
It's a marketing trap and we know it.
Tablets are a very similar thing.
I am literally a high performance hardware junkie, but I was disappointed as I saw new products advertised better as the old products and after reviewing years of my different phone usage I don't see the big jump to the next level.
Everyone is tricked like:
PS3 -> PS4 /
Fallout 3 -> Fallout 4

But reality is like
PS3 -> PS3 lite /
Fallout 3 - Fallout 3
>>
>>58799583
Not to forget why I like Xperia series very much - never have battery / software / hardware issues like the galaxys or other series, which often have better performance on sheet, but which also often have to go to the lab because of little problems.

Have to say that the cap for the USB cable can get loose after heavy usage after 2-3 years (bought 2 new for 5$ a cap) and without the cap there is no waterproofing.
But u can literally throw it out the window and it is likely it gets little to no scratches (one time.i left my keys inside and had to climb up my balcony, phone fell out of my pocket from ~2,5 m flat on the screen without protection on stone floor - nothing noteworthy happened.
>>
>>58799736
>>58799583

Negative points:
- Bad pictures in darkness (Galaxy, IPhone [and other phones probably] do a better job there than Xperia)

- Screen too big for some people (but there are compact versions)

- Speaker quality and loudness is advertised better than it really is

- Speaker Cover can get loose after 3-5 years heavy usage (not that much of a problem, but there could still be a better solution, phone does feel older when things like this happen)

- restarts every time you put a sim card in our out (so two restarts if u want to change sim ; no turning off option)

- Can't block a contact from calling without third-party app

PS: Until last year I used a IPhone 4 (no s; rooted) for another business I had and stopped updating at ios 6.

Couldn't do every higher performance app like "better" phones, but was very usable for almost every app.

Experience showed that every iPhone 4; 4s which was updated to ios 7 and higher became victim of performance troubles my iPhone never had.

hey anons,

I saw a listing for an iPhone 6S for $50 on Craigslist. I didnt really want an iPhone nor need it but I thought what the hell. I met the man and phone was cracked on the back but seems to work fine. Obviously this shit is hot and I'm not going to risk using my carrier /putting a SIM in it.
My question:
>how do I completely wipe an iPhone and/or prevent it from sending track trackable info out if I want to use WiFi on it?
I don't want it sending Apple data that it's on and if it's hot have it look like i was the culprit?

Can I "root" it? Is there something I can do that will make it think its MEID is different, or at the very least not share it as soon as it has Internet connectivity?

Thanks in advance

I'm trying to root my ancient htc one phone, I followed this guide and even installed the old version of supersu that came with it, but it didn't work. Upon reboot, it kept giving me messages saying supersu was crashing. I went on the google play store and updated supersu, which then tells me the phone isn't rooted. It's the first time I'm trying to root a phone, but it's hard to look up help that's recent for such an old phone.

Should I go into recovery mode and try installing SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip through TWRP?
>>
Note 5 or a9?
>>
>>58802548
You fucked up, superSU isn't something you install to have root, it's merely for managing permissions.

Rooting anything means putting the phone in fastboot mode and flashing a zip through there, at this point all you can do is factory reset and pray or unlock the bootloader and install a rom, you have a shitload to choose from, the phone is very popular.
>>
>>58802640
I've got the bootloader unlocked and my phone is still working, I just want to know what I need to root it from there. So I just have to install a custom rom? You mean going back to the rom the phone shipped with? Probably, but there's no point when you have several godly nougat roms available for it, you even have a port of HTC10 marshmallow for it.

Rooting an htc phone is super easy, i didn't even know it was possible to fuck it up, they literally give you a step-by-step guide on their website.
>>
>>58802800
Usually after unlocking the bootloader you flash a custom recovery (TWRP) in fastboot and then flash the SuperSU zip from there. Not sure if it's the same with that phone.

yes, several actually

-speakers are ass and the 3.5mm jack is finnicky, it'll break in a year or so but i don't care that much about it since i barely listen to music on my phone and cheap, good bluetooth earbuds are available

-it ships with chinese botnet masquerading as an ui that looks like an ios ripoff, easily fixed by custom roms though

-has some huge black borders around the screen, but you wont notice if you order it in black like i did

-unremovable battery, maybe i just got used to it but that would be unnaceptable if the battery of this phone wasnt 4000 goddamn mAh

i still bought it because of the huge screen, sd slot, ir blaster and being insultingly cheap for what it offered, literally not even a week worth of food for me, and i eat mostly vegetables, chicken and fish, the poorfag life is a hard one

Don't think it has the bands needed to get LTE on any US carrier. Redmi Note 3 Pro supports 2 out of 3 LTE bands T-Mobile uses (B2 and B4, missing B12) so you should get LTE with it in most places.

Just ordered an Elephone P9000. Didn't spend long researching as my current phone finally died today and needed to put an order in for next-day delivery. Did I fuck up?

I plan to install stock android as soon as it arrives, because I'm assuming cheap chink smartphones come with spyware by default now, based on Lenovo, Huwaei et al. track record with laptops and routers in recent years.

>The Moto G4 series got updated to Nougat sooner than a lot of the flagship phones did

What?!? I have a Moto G4 and it still hasn't updated to Nougat. When did this happen?
>>
Any good phone for up to 145e? Don't care if it's chink or not.
>>
In October I asked to unlock the bootloader for my RN3P, the chinks granted it but I didn't know it only lasted for a month, so it expired.
I'd like now to flash lineageos.
I found a guide to flash it with locked bootloader and one to back up almost everything using adb.
What are the cons of flashing with locked bootloader? Will I face some troubles?

It's not out for every region but the OTA file is on XDA (might even be enough to use a VPN to get the update)

I have an unlocked HTC 10 and it was giving me issues on WiFi. Signal showed as strong and it stayed connected but it wouls slow down to a degree that apps would say no network connection and web pages would fail to load. It seems to be fixed. I did two things and I'm not sure which one fixed fixed it. First was a software update 2.41.617.3. That update was security and bug fixes. Other thing I did was switch WiFi channels to a less crowded one as all of my neighbors have WiFi routers. So to anybody else having trouble I would try the things I did.

Having an Samsung S7 Edge and one of the best Android phones.

However, I'm getting lazy and thinking of switching to iPhone.

The only reason from stopping me is the missing headphone jack. Is there a chance that they bring it back with the next release?
>>
Has anyone here bought the Samsung a9? Considering buying it for the xboxhueg screen

>-import and shipping fees are a given

How much are they?
>-camera is ass, my previous phone a galaxy s3 takes better photos than this thing

I have a nexus 4 so if the camera is any better it's already great enough for me.
>-speakers are ass and the 3.5mm jack is finnicky, it'll break in a year or so but i don't care that much about it since i barely listen to music on my phone and cheap, good bluetooth earbuds are available

Tru on the bluetooth headphones.
>-it ships with chinese botnet masquerading as an ui that looks like an ios ripoff, easily fixed by custom roms though

Lineageos
>-has some huge black borders around the screen, but you wont notice if you order it in black like i did

I will order it in black.
>-unremovable battery, maybe i just got used to it but that would be unnaceptable if the battery of this phone wasnt 4000 goddamn mAh

Battery seems fuckin insane, tired of charging my n4 every half day.
>i still bought it because of the huge screen, sd slot, ir blaster and being insultingly cheap for what it offered, literally not even a week worth of food for me, and i eat mostly vegetables, chicken and fish, the poorfag life is a hard one

A Dutch store. It's actually called 'usedproducts', they just sell the products for a profit margin based on the price the previous owner sold it for to them. So you can get second hand prices, but still be guaranteed the quality of a new(ish) product (if all goes well)

I'm with Wind/mememobile(now), kind of sucks. I got fucking jewed into getting their LTE plan not knowing that only TWO! phones support the bands.
>>
>>58812472
yeah ever since the rebrand they've gotten much worse
sad too because their plans should be the norm in canada by now but they fucked up

PM is great though, no complaints. Especially the 4GB/mo (12gb/90 days as they refer to it) deal they get going randomly throughout the year.

Different fag here, how much can I fuck up by getting one of those launchers. Totally new to Android. From what I've gathered it's just some kind of application running on top of the OS so I assume I can't mess things up for myself with it
>>
>>58797423
Well if a company has such a shit reputation that you expect their next meme phone blow up, I would recommend not buying them, ever.
>>
>>58812508
But yeah man seriously considering switching, the fact that they rebranded means they weren't doing too well... Not that PM didn't have a makeover too

customer service can be pretty awful too I've noticed

I would recommend buying a chink phone as expensive as you are willing to pay for it. Look for xiaomi
>>
>>58812603
Yeah, it's just an app. Download it from Google play and give it a try, no need to worry about it messing anything up. If you don't like it just uninstall.
