In my search for a cheap (not more than 400€) phone I realized that fingerprint scanners are just too convenient to let go so I won't settle for anything not having them.

So far in my quest I considered the following:

- scanner is on the back

>Oneplus 3T

Most of the public is dumb. Then there's a section which isn't dumb but is super busy (extremely under-pressure professionals working long hours, or mothers with multiple very young children) and so doesn't have time to research.

But if you're on 4chan then I'm pretty sure you have time to research. That anon could have done even a tiny bit of research before buying and he would have found out about Touchwiz performance visavis stock Android or other manufacturers' software. No excuse.
>>
>>58815028
You're missing the point. Good UX design shouldn't be something that people have to research. With Apple, you know you're getting a great product. With Android, researching which phone you're gonna buy turns into a month long project. It's just not worth it for anyone with a life. Buy an iPhone.
>>
>>58815145
Yeah I get that. I'm not saying it's the way it should be, but it's the way it is right now.

I agree with you when it comes to iPhones of the past. But since they started removing basic features, even that has started to become overly complicated.

DT2 owner here, there's a bug where the camera crashes after a few weeks of uptime. Rebooting isn't enough I also have to wipe the system cache. Pretty fucking annoying when I go to take a picture but I have to spend 5 minutes turning it off, getting into the bootloader, wiping the cache, and rebooting. I also haven't seen an update since October although I knew going in that Verizon cucked devices would be shit for updates, thank fuck I didn't pay full price for it.

Moto just honestly sucks now, their updates are slow as fuck even for unlocked phones and they drop support after devices are barely a year old.

I'd like to be able to get something like a OnePlus 3T or an Honor 8 but Verizon coverage is life. Hopefully I can get a good deal on an unlocked pixel once the new one's drop this Fall.

http://willmyphonework.net/
I'm not sure you'll get all working bands.

Zuk Z2 has the best specs, fastest and future proofing. SD820+4GB RAM.

Redmi 4 Prime has a really awesome battery(4100 mAh). 9-10 hours SoT easy. SD625 is quite adequate.

So decide what matters to you more, performance or battery life. Z2 can also pull 6-7H SoT with its 3500 mAh battery but not as long as the R4P.
>>
>>58817466
>>58817508
btw they both have unofficial custom roms.
Zuk has mokee and CM/LOS and R4P has one too. unlocking and flashing on the Zuk is easier because you don't need to wait for permission from Xiaomi.

If you can live without the aux port then yes. It will come with a USBC to AUX adaptor though.

>Moto Z Force
>Pros
Battery life is solid.
Sound quality is good.
Front facing camera with actual flash is surprisingly good.
Moto mods pop on and off easy as fuck and still hold onto the phone as long as you don't drop it.
Main camera is pretty fucking good.

>CONS
Moto mods are limited and pricy as shit ($300 for a camera that's only marginally better than the one on the phone?)
Forced to deal with Verizon bloat.
No aux is pretty gay.
Phone is just oddly slippery.

Overall I dig it. Worthy successor to my Droid Turbo.

I did, it says bands work for some on LTE. (whatever the fuck that means)

But I checked my carrier forums and people say they used Redmi 3 successfully.

Idk honestly I've been fine with my nexus 4 besides the shitty battery. Don't really need much more specs-wise, just a better camera would be great.

Some people are reporting massive issues with the battery after updating to nougat, we're talking the phone shutting off at 30%, sometimes not charging past 80%, the SoT dropping from the usual 6-7 hours to barely 4 and horrendous idle drain despite nougat's improved doze mode being one of it's main draws (overnight ie 8 hours it sucked a mere 2-4 percent, now it can eat up to 25% even if you put it in airplane mode), staying on marshmallow isn't an option either since the nougat update fixed some ringtone issues and touchscreen latency/lag so your only options are either sucking it up and staying on M or unlocking to try a custom rom+kernel.

There's also the no SD slot part but the phone is so good and "cheap" (for what it offers) that most people don't mind making backups of their data every few days.
>>
>>58819332

>>
>>58819421
"Unlocking" means unlocking the bootloader and rooting, you can't install roms with a locked bootloader, it's really easy though.

No oneplus phone has ever came with a charger or earbuds by the way so it shouldn't be that surprising, however it seems they were forced to throw in one charger this time since it now supports dash/quick charging, there's no need to buy the 30 one unless the holes on your power sockets aren't pins, ask the seller before buying though since i'm a spic and the charger my OP3T came with was different than the one shown on most reviews and compatible with the sockets on my house.

After 4 years of every day service, I am going to decommission my Galaxy Note 3. The headphone port has been broken for months now, replaced it and still didn't work. Then this morning the wifi stopped working too. I've officially given up on trying to fix that after restoring, flashing modem/firmware, and even replacing the wifi antenna cable.

I've been outside of the phone game since 2013 since my Note 3 had been perfect for me since day 1. I've been reading up and there seems to be a lot of hype and good reviews for the One+ 3T.

Is it a worthy purchase or is it just a meme? I'd be grateful if any 3T owners could possibly chime in.

No, don't use those sites.
Literally just go to whatever site you're going to purchase from, read the bands support, find the carrier's supported bands officially, and see if they match.
>>
>>58824851
Okay it uses some of the bands. What does that mean?
>>
>>58824991
Depends on context and which bands.

If your area only supports certain bands, and your phone doesn't, then you won't get [3g/4g/etc] service, for example. If your phone just doesn't support some band that's only used in toronto, then it doesn't matter.

Do some searching around, you'll find answers applicable to you.

Actually I agree with>>58815145
to a certain extent. Unless you use your phone extensively for work (you MUST use an open operated system edit docs on it etc, use bluetooth for file sharing? idk why tho etc) then ofc you could. Also if money is an object.
If however, you need a phone to work flawlessly as a phone, kinda ''the nokia of smartphones" and you have the money, or you don't care about buying used products- you get an iphone. The best thing except for their reliability and customer service is the longevity- a single phone will easily last you ~3-4 years
As for adults taking time- it all comes down to what you are looking for. I personally had too many bad experiences of trying to switch from apple (iphone, and ipod in the past, don't like their other tech, had an ipad) so its highly unlikely i will take time to research into what is a decent mid range android device etc etc

This entire post becomes subjective because of this post. I've yet to know a person whose had an iphone that's lasted more than a year without something going wrong.

If you want hardware that will last you three to four years, buy a blackberry. If you want something that does all the work for you buy apple, and if you want to rice everything and have apps get android.

So I'm clinically retarded and need spoonfeeding.

I want to purchase a smartphone to act as a small portable shitposting device that has nice apps like discord, and to check my email. I do not intend to use this phone for making calls at all. I purchased a Windows phone that was unlocked for ~$40, and while it is a good phone in my opinion, it has 0 apps and the power button crapped out on me so I have to shake it to hopefully get it to turn on.

I'm looking at phones on Amazon, and it looks like some phones that are unlocked require an activated sim card for the phone to do anything at all. Am I wrong in my understanding, or are there phones that require an activated sim card to work (as in do anything a smartphone normally can do other than make calls or send texts)?

About custom taxes.

How this works?
I've ordered a phone for 180 euros. And I got a message on AliExpress

>1:Send via DHL may need to clear customs in your country ,and 95% that you need to pay customs taxes
>2:Normally we will declare $45.
>mark as phone or tablet PC.We will declare real value for orders(total amount including freight)from Belarus, Israel,Chile,Portugal,South Korea and Greece.

And asked me
>3:Please tell us how much value we should declare on the package for you before we send out your parcel .

I wrote them to declare $22 and mark package as a gift. If package doesn't cost more than 22 (euros/dollars, doesn't matter) and is marked as a gift, in my country it should bypass custom taxes.

Will this work or I am retarded?

Or should I cancel my order and order my phone with free shipping (if it will bypass custom taxes)?

I'm not really interested in paying 21% more for a phone...

This seems like an appropriate place to ask this.

My Nexus 5 of over 2 years just got two pretty sizeable stains on the glass (about 1 square cm in total smudge area). I can't clean them away using wet wipes, pencil erasers, and can't scratch them off with a metal ruler (I ran out of ideas).

The area doesn't feel much different, but it looks like maybe some coating got rubbed off. I've had a glass screen protector for over a year and took it off recently, did it tear off some protective coating from the screen or something?

Any ideas at all about what could it be and how to get rid of it?

Hello /spg/,

I tried repairing my Oneplus One after a nasty drop broke the touch screen, unfortunately the screen visually glitches out during usage so either I fucked something up (I tried reopening and redoing the connections and making sure the flat cables are straight) or the screen from china is messed up. Either way I'm in the market for a new phone now.

I'm thinking about either a new Oneplus or a Moto G. My budget is like 200€. While the open nature of oneplus was fun, I ended up not really using the advantages of it at all, so what is important to me is the bang for buck I can get. So my options seem to either be Oneplus X or Moto G4. Anyone with either device want to give some input?

Is there an app for Android that can connect to a SOCKS proxy AND route the traffic using the system's VPN toolkit? So no iptables or anything, just system-wide "VPN" that is actually a proxy underneath.

I ask because using SOCKS proxy over SSH is so simple, but running OpenVPN servers on all SSH-capable devices is absolutely not. So I want to use my comfy SOCKS proxy for the whole system without any root-hacks (they don't work in my situation, unfortunately).
Is this possible?

Sorry if i am posting in incorrect general but this is the only smartphone related general i am familiar with.

I have flashed 6.0.1 on my N6P because of xposed support. Everything is fine except battery stats. Why is it only showing screen? Ive been using messenger chrome youtube etc.

Any ideas?

Also, i have no hope for this but maybe, just maybe someone knows how to get KitKat or Nougat battery stats screen on Marshmallow?

It's probably just the oleophobic coating

USA, T-Mobile.

It doesn't need a lot of features, because it's for my grandpa, but he wants an Android, preferably Samsung. What do I offer him?
>>
>>58840767
Why does he want Samsung?
>>
>>58840946
He wants to replace his Galaxy Avant, so maybe he wants something he's familiar with, but other than that no clue.
>>
What is better?
>used galaxy note 4
>new galaxy J5
>add a few $ and buy galaxy S5/S6/S7
>>
>>58840483
Try resetting your device. If other apps still don't show up, maybe you fucked up a setting somewhere along the way.
Also make sure you've been using it for at least 24 hours and you let it completely drain (through normal use).

>>58840767
Convince him to get an iphone. If he absolutely will not budge (which is fine), then the S7 or wait for S8 (announcement later this month).

My iPhone 6 is about to hit the shitter and I'm in need to replace my phone, as well as cut the cord with Apple.

Any mid/high mid tier phones that are recommended? Was looking at the Huawei p9 and Honor 8.
>>
>>58841072
OP3T
>>
>>58841072
Honor 8 would be good

similar form factor and EMUI takes a lot of cues from iOS
>>
>>58841072
Oneplus 3T dominates the ~400 realm. Below 300 is probably xiaomi, or certain huawei honors/mates on sale.

I don't think it's worth getting a device in the ~250-399 range. Either go OP3T and spend ~440, or go uber cheap (ie the Mi's), or go flagship ~700+.
>>
>>58841166
>>58841072
Axon 7 is pretty fucking good for under $400
>>
>>58841209
No ma'am. Not with that disgusting software.
>>
>>58841223
It has official LineageOS now though.
>>

>don't want pixel
>/g/ says to get OnePlus 3T
>get it, using it for a week
>buttons stick out too far
>camera bezel isn't flush with lens cover
>unsupported verizon SIM only works half the time, have to fall back to Google Fi

0/10 would not buy again
>jokes, this phone is amazing
>>
>>58841261
Around $380-400 in the US, you can get it for under $340 from the chinks though.

Compared to the Honor 8, Axon 7 has
>better display
>better performance
>better audio quality
>stereo speakers
>near stock android
>Daydream-ready

Honor 8 has
>better camera
>IR blaster
>>
>>58841468
Yeah but I mean if you're spending anywhere near $400, just save a bit more and go oneplus and enjoy longevity.
>>
>>58841520
It's not like OP3T is better in every single thing though. Axon 7 has the stereo speakers, a SD slot and higher res display over the Oneplus so if you have a large music collection and listen to a lot of music, or you want to do VR stuff on your phone then the Axon 7 might be the better phone.

Where can i find a good tutorial for flashing a stock Android rom?
>>
>>58842311
What phone?
>>

Zuk z2. Apparently I have a vendor rom that I need to get rid of
>>
Guys I posted here the other day about getting the OnePlus 3T, I'm going to order it today and I need to find a good case and maybe a screen protecter. What do you guys recommend?
>>
>>58841313
Did you actually think a Verizon sim would work on it you mong

Fucking burgerclaps
>>
>>58842415
1. Unlock bootloader
http://zukfans.eu/community/threads/zuk-z2-bootloader-unlock.62/

2. Install TWRP
http://zukfans.eu/community/threads/offcial-twrp-3-0-3-0-for-zukz2-z2-plus.2489/

3. Flash the ROM of your choosing (apparently Mokee is the least buggy)

>>
>>58842770
It does, it's just missing Band 13 LTE. For whatever reason though it would drop all signal at random times though, I think my APN may have been misconfigured or something. I switched to Fi full time though and am happy with it.
>>
So for my grandpa, do you guys think he'd be OK with the Galaxy J7 or the Om5?

I'd like him to get a flagship phone, just so that it won't suck so much that he needs a new phone in a year.
>>
>>58842172
i think the "fix" is to get some blue light filter app and set it to like 5%
>>
>>58843011
Do you mean the J7 2016? I wouldn't even consider the on5, it's trash.
>>
Why do people get expensive flagship phones? What's the point of having such an expensive phone other than status?
>>
Is there any board of mobile games?
>>
>>58843371
in the case of an iPhone, it Just Werks, and it's not like you have a choice in specs if you want an iPhone

as for Android, idk
>>
My 4 year old Galaxy S3 is slow and laggy as fuck. I like it a lot but its getting pretty ridiculous at this point. I like its size and really dont give a fuck about special features and whatnot, i really just use it to browse here and leddit (fight me irl). what should i get /g/ friends?

Still using godlike iphone 4s here thinking about switching, I don't give a crap about cameras or gaming on phone, I just want a small and fast device. ZUK2 seems really popular atm? How hard is it to install clean rom?
>>
>>58845086
Man I wish some company made a similar shape phone with recent hardware

Huawei Mate 9 or Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017)? Same price in my country.

Or am I better off ordering some Xiaomeme from China?
>>
Is there any way to make lineage to immediately show me the pattern unlock challenge when I turn on the screen just like with gravitybox?
>>
>>58845632
At least in CM13 the setting is "directly show pattern view" in lock screen settings
>>
>>58845631
Guess I need to elaborate a bit. I'm not that interested in features - I just want something that will be supported by the manufacturer for at least 2 years, well built and pretty to look at.

At the moment I'm using my old iPhone 5 - literally nothing wrong with it, except for battery being a bit weak, but I grew pretty tired of it.

HUAWEI HONOR X6 OR MOTO G4
>>
>>58843011
Then get him the S8 that's about to come out.

>>58843371
Because they offer longevity (for normies they upgrade in a year for a discount @ their fav carrier anyways), they're fast for that year of use, and as you pointed out they offer status.
Also, a lot of people don't buy expensive phones outright, plenty of people just get them for free from work or at a steep discount with as I mentioned, carrier loyalty.

>>58844972
I mean with that vague outlook you could pretty much get anything if you don't actually want something to stay in the 4 inch range.

>>58845086
iphone SE

>>58845631
mate 9 easily, how much is it going for?

>>58845632

use the search in the settings, search for 'directly', and you should see something like directly show pin entry/pattern view/etc.

Around 550$
>>
>>58846190
If the Oneplus 3T is going for cheaper, go with that instead.
>>
>>58815491
Fido - unlimited talk and text and 4gb was 65 the other day. Not sure if it's still up. Koodo has it too, switching to that soon.
>>
>>58846216
PM usually offers $40 for the same when the deal swings around, right now I think it's just 2gb.
>>
>>58846207
That would've been a no-brainer, but 3T will run me at least a 100$ more due to import tax.
>>
>>58846273
Oh that sucks.
Well the mate 9 is still a great choice. Keep in mind due to the larger screen size, ppi is under 400. Perfect for most people but if you're anal about displays that's something to consider.
Unless you mean the Mate 9 pro, which is 500+ppi.
>>
>>58846153
>G4
I just now learned that the G4 Plus is a thing. It's got nearly identical hardware to the Honor 6X, except the G4 Plus has a better camera, and the Honor 6X has a slightly better processor. The prices are nearly the same.
Honestly, I'm leaning more towards the Honor 6X. It looks like it also has a slightly more powerful battery.

Watch this before you choose. Also stock android on Moto G4 is nicer than EMUI on the 6X
